This boss is annoying, very, very annoying.
He'll constantly cast a barrier that'll reduce the damage you take by 75% but makes you immune to silence. Drag the boss out of the barrier and dps him down.
The mask will constantly cast an aoe silence and you need to be under the shield before the mask gets it off or you're silenced for 10 seconds. After the shield casted it feel free to move out of the barrier

Figured it out. I'm a fury warrior. Go inside the small tent to the right. The Mask can not zap you with silence, and, the boss can not get in the tent to hit you hard. Just stay in the tent and let him have it!
Should add; If you die, dont fret it. Just keep at him. He never gains health back. Just bring lots of potions

This is about the most tedious fight imaginable. You're supposed to kite him out of his protective bubbles, but then run inside those bubbles when the mask is silencing. He's constantly stopping to create new barriers or cast his waves of light, and Vereesa roots him inside his bubble half the time. Expect it to take 3 minutes or more if you have non-epic gear.

There is
NO FRIGGIN WAY
for a solo mage to do this quest. Blizzard really needs to fix this.

Ok, I just spent way too much time on this boss. Luckily, I learned a lot during that time.
First off, there a few bugs.
Bug 1)
When I did it the first time, Vereesa Windrunner did not join me at the top of the temple. She stayed about halfway up the stairs and just stood there. I thought this was normal, and didn't worry about it. This was the majority of my problem. My main spec is healing, so the gear and spec I run for dailies is weak, so this guy did kill me. Without Vereesa up there fighting with you, he resets after he kills you. If she is up there, she holds agrro while you run back and his health does not reset. I tried everything I could think of to get her to come up, but the only thing that worked was to leave the scenario and start over. The second time she joined me.
Bug 2)
The Protective Bubbles. They protect you from the silence and the AOE if you are under them when the mask casts the silence. If you are outside a bubble when the silence is cast, you can run in a bubble and clear it. However, there is a sweet spot, right at the boundary of the bubble that if you are at that point when the silence is cast, the bubble will not protect you and you will get silenced. If you have an Addon to alert you of periodic damage, you will find yourself yelling at the screen, "I AM IN THE FREAKING BUBBLE, STOP HURTING ME!" This is easy to fix though. Just run out of the bubble and back in. This will clear the silence and protect you from the AOE.
Once I got these bugs figured out, the fight wasn't too bad. Here is my explanation of the mechanics.
Arcanital Mara'kah:
Other than melee you, he does 2 things. First Major Ability: He casts these protective bubbles. It is important to move him out of these. There are times when there are two bubbles up. Be sure to always be near the newest one. (Nothing worse than having a bubble disappear when the silence is about to happen) Second Major Ability: He throws

. You will know it is about to happen by a "dust path" that appears in front of him. Just move out of that and you will be fine.
The Mask:
The mask also does 2 main things. The First is

that tracks you (laser beam thingy). Just move away from it. It does a good amount of damage. The Second is a silence. You will get a warning about this. You have to be in one of the bubbles to be shielded by it. Otherwise it will silence you for 10secs and do some major damage. See Bug 2 above.
Final pro tip:
There are 3 (that I found) potions in this area that give you health over time. One is on the alter where the boss starts. The other is in the big tent on the right. And the third is in a little tent on the right near the stairs. I recommend scoping these out before you start the fight. They are one-use and don't respawn.
As you can tell, there is a lot of movement in this fight. Good luck!

This is very annoying for an ungeared tank too. Between the protective bubbles that reduce his damage taken, and the time spent trying to move him, my DPS for this fight was under 6k (normally 15-20), so it took about 8 minutes to kill him.
I tried just keeping him outside the bubble and eating the damage from the mask to speed things up, but it was too much.

The only bubble I saw was around Mara'kah. After dieing and coming here, I was glad to see his health was still down. As a warlock I could not really see a way to get him outside of the bubble,so after a few attempts at running in and out of the tent,I joined him inside the bubble. This was great! I just moved out of the way of the golden laser when it came around,and suffered NO melee damage at all. Then it was just a matter of time to burn him down.

Glad I read these posts. I did this first with my ret Pally and died 3 times, before reading posts. Never understood the sheild thing was in it by accident. Later with my rogue I just stood toe to toe and duked it out with him, staying out of the fire beam and killed him with out dying in less than 5 minutes. I stayed in the bubble the whole time keeping the boss just out of it if I could. Easy now I'll try with my hunter and mage lol

I died a dozen times trying to kill this stupid guy on my mage and it took 20 minutes. Solo quest my rear end; thanks a lot Blizzard.

HUNTERS: Use Misdirect and a tanking pet with all his aggro abilities up to keep Arcanital Mara'kah interested in him and ignoring you. A turtle in Tenacity spec works well for this. Then just use your “Move to” ability on your pet bar to move your pet out of the golden bubble when Mara'kah casts it, thus moving him out of it as well. Run into said bubble and keep on shooting. Heal your pet and yourself as needed, and keep moving Mara'kah out of the bubbles and standing in the new ones when they appear. Doing this, you should have no problem with this fight even with a low gear level. Mine was at 436 and I defeated Mara'kah the first time I tried using this method.

Probably the most annoying solo encounter of the expansion. His bubble reduces damage taken for anyone inside, but it is rather difficult to keep him out of the bubbles for any length of time.
-Vereesa will root him
-He frequenly stops moving to cast
-He will often cast new bubbles
-He likes to stand close to you
-The mask will damage/silence you outside of the bubbles
A few tips:
-Interrupt him frequently so he'll move
-lead him well away from the bubbles, and come back to the very edge of the bubble. You won't look "inside;" just make sure you have the protection buff. Otherwise he stands too close to you and gains the protection himself
-There are some Devil's Blood potions nearby that can give you a steady stream of healing for 30s
-Pet classes will want to use the "move to" command so that your pets can keep aggro and pull him out of the bubbles.

Am I the only one who's slightly confused by what Vereesa says before this fight? She tells you to attack the mask to bring down the barrier, when you can't even target the mask and the barriers are actually beneficial to you. Perhaps that's what you were originally supposed to do, but then Blizzard changed their mind and left the dialogue in(hey, it happens)?

So, the problem with this boss are the bubbles you have to stand in and the boss needs to
NOT
stand in.
A simple way to get him out of the bubble is a little trick I learned while tanking in early wotlk.
When you target someone, you'll notice the little circle under the unit. This is basically an indicator for the units hit box size.
Now to the interesting part: When you move into the unit while tanking but not directly in the center of the hitbox, the unit will try to back away from you so that the indicator can just reach you.
This will only happen though if the unit is not casting (or if damn Vereesa doesn't root it).
So what you do is
: You move into the enemies hitbox, but not directly in the middle of it. The enemy will back away and hopefully be out of the bubbles. No enerving kiting needed.

I did this on my Fury warrior with minimal trouble. Going in on my Fire mage with a pitiful ilvl of 429, I got the righteous snot kicked out of me. Whoever designed this needs to die. I did finally beat him, but it took a few fast run-backs, otherwise if you mess around getting back to him he'll reset. And yeah, the tent thing doesn't work anymore. I drank 2 potions that I could find throughout, too.

Did this on my rogue today. No problems at all, barely got any health off me thanks to leeching poison. just stayed in his bubble toe to toe and slowly grinded his health down. Get out of the way of the gold laser and no worries. Just be patient and stab stab stab.

Reward: 19G and some useless valor points. Cost: 50G in repairs. Value: some negative number, which might just be a prime number...
But just give me the 20 minutes back and I'll be happy. A stupidly-annoying quest. How many hit points does he have? 2M?
Unless you need to do this for some reason, drop it like a hot rock. Not a complete waste of your time, I guess. You could be having a root canal job, which gets you a new molar and is much more entertaining.
My favorite part is when your "partner" (who did so little damage I couldn't find a record of it my Combat Log) tells you to kill the mask. Oh? What if I left my chopper at home? Casters could probably whack the mask, in which place it would be shorter and borderline fun. If you can't do a reasonable amount of ranged damage, you're in for an aggravating waste of time. Masochists, this is your day!
As always, it's the reward that makes the difference. Crank the award up to 200G and this instantly become one of my favorite quests.

Went all the way to all red on this one. No one there for repairs, so of course I had to start over. The lowest I got him was 8%. Embarrassing to hearth out to the Shrine and run to be fixed with no weapon, and my armor in tatters. I used Killing Spree and throw blades as long as I could and tried to read the comments here, but by then it was a lost cause. Don't know if I'll put my Rogue through that again...... :)

What I did was step inside the barrier of Arcanital Mara'kah. When my health and mana was low, I went back down the stairs to eat and drink while my pet was still fighting Arcanital Mara'kah. It took forever but I got tired of dying after the 14th time.

You cannot just go in the tent, he follows you in. Most of the posts are not true anymore. And yes, if you die, he gets 100% health back.

Level 90 mage just died 4 times trying to do this stupid quest. Vereesa Windrunner did absolutely NO DAMAGE, and my repairs cost 133 gold.
I've done this on numerous other toons and never had this much trouble. Never died before, even with my other mage!
If there were any way to avoid this POS craptasticly buggy quest and still advance on Thunder Island, I'd do it. I'll never do it again, that's for sure. I'd request Blizzard fix it, but patch 6.0.2 drops in four days, so that would be a waste of time.
