Balance druids: Starfall will break the CC on this fight unless it's been changed since beta. Beware raid leader rage!

If you are CCing a mob with the Impaling Spear, this will make your job much easier. Set your focus to be the mob that you CC, move into range and hit this macro:
/target focus
/click ExtraActionButton1
/targetlasttarget
Saves trouble with targetting and retargetting, pretty handy.

not entirely sure, but as of now, hes the NPC with the most hp in-game with 1766.4 Million HP (that is, on 25M HC).
still looking, but only found 2 other NPC of hitting the 1 billion mark, the others are Elegon (1164.5M and the not-yet-released Sha of Fear (1360.1M))

I would note a rare bug, that can easily avoided, if you pre-cc the adds prior pull.
Sometimes Wind Lord will bug, and even tho you are in normal mode he wont allow you to cc more than 2 of his adds sometimes. The simple solution is to pull the boss and reset it. Not anything gamebreaking, but I hope this can ease your pain.
Good luck downing him!

Short guide on this boss (normal 10 man):
You can use one or two tanks, the only reason for using two tanks is to split the mobs between them, so if one tank can survive everything, by all means do so as it will allow you to push that much more damage (and the tank will be able to do 200k+ dps). Two healers is possible, but surviving phase two will be really tough and will require careful cooldown management.
There are three kinds of adds: priests that heal and buff damage, warriors that charge, and hunters that apply annoying debuffs. You can CC 4 adds out of 9, but when you kill one pack (mobs of one type share health) this number goes down to 2, and finally 0 when only one pack remains. It is recommended to CC two priests, mostly because having more than one stack of attack speed buff is going to kill the tank. You want to CC at least one warrior, because three charges can one-shot a clothie; last one should probably be a hunter to reduce the number of puddles and debuffs. You can use normal CC abilities, or use the spears on the walls (50 second incapacitate with no CD, but short cast time).
Once you got your CC assignments, pull the boss and the remaining 5 mobs together and aoe them. You can prioritize the priest to reduce tank damage, or aoe them evenly to get more dps mileage. At 75% health the boss gets a new ability, which you don't want to be used when adds are still alive, so don't go too far. Don't use any stuns or fears or whatever secondary effects your abilities might have, as it will cause the boss break the CC on all targets and wipe you.
Make sure the priest dies first so the number of remaining CC'd targets is two, and try to kill the other two packs as close together as possible.
As you do that, some players will be trapped by hunters, they can be freed by simply clicking them; however, this gives the freeing player a debuff that prevents them from freeing other players for 2 minutes.
After that, move the boss in the middle of the room and have ranged spread out around him. In this phase, boss will hit 150% harder, so mind your tank. His abilities are Whirling Blade which is quite easy to dodge, and Rain of Blades which does very heavy physical damage on the whole raid and should be healed/cooldowned through. At 75% he will start throwing bombs, which should be avoided as stepping on one will nearly one-shot the raid.

Wind Lord Mel'jarak is a two phased encounter with a fluid transition between those phases and requires in 10 man mode 1-2 tanks, 2-3 healer and 5-7 damage dealer, depending on which tactic your raid is able to pick.
Since there are plenty of possible combinations to complete phase one and one combination may be easy for one raid, while it is impossible for an other raid, I will not put any direct strategies in this comment. Simply because they may not work for our raid does not mean that they are not viable.
To choose an approach of how to deal with the boss an understanding of the additional elements is required:
There are 3 different types of additional adds, who can be crowd controlled, but the number of possible targets is limited by the number of adds alive.
Any crowd controll spell like
恐惧
or
变形术
do work, but it may be recommended to use the ability granted by the 4 weapon racks at the sides of the room. These despawn after a player picks one and do not respawn until the boss resets, so do not click blindly on them, if you are not assigned to CC one add. After you picked a weapon rack, you gain the ability
穿刺之矛
on the extra action button which is a 50 second CC with a 2 second cast time (afflicted by haste) that does break on direct damage.
The limits for CC are:
If all
3 different groups are alive
, a maximum of
4 targets can be CCed
.
If
2 different groups are alive
, a maximum of
2 targets can be CCed
.
If
1 groups is alive
,
no CC is possible
.
If you go over those limits the boss dispells everything thanks to
警觉之眼
In addition the boss gains one stack of
鲁莽
per fallen group, granting him 50% damage done and 33% damage taken, stacking to a maximum of 3 and lasting the whole fight.
The adds of the same kin share their life pools, so it is possible to kill CCed adds with the indirect damage they take from their "brothers". Those adds are:
瑟拉提克琥珀诱捕者
have two different abilities:
琥珀监牢
is an orange ice block, which traps a player and all targets within 2 yards, so simply stand a little bit spread out, while at least one
瑟拉提克琥珀诱捕者
is active.
In order to free someone trapped into an
琥珀监牢
simply right click him. Doing so grants you a debuff called
残渣
preventing you for a timeframe of 90 seconds to 2 minutes from freeing an other player.
腐蚀树脂
is a debuff with 5 stacks, which deals moderate damage until the player moves till all stacks are gone. When loosing a stack, one
腐蚀树脂之池
is created which acts as a small voidzone dealing higher damage when standing inside. It is recommended to run to the sides of the room in order not to block it.
扎尔提克助战者
are healer and supporter with two different abilities:
治疗
heals a group or the boss by 25% HP and has to be interrupted at all costs. One person is sufficient to kick a
扎尔提克助战者
from cooldown perspectives, as long as the person is not a mage or warlock.
加速
is cast sometimes increasing damage and melee attack speed of all targets of this encounter and stacks infinite times on them, we tracked 15 until the boss one shoted our tank. Counter it with
群体驱散
. Our mage said, it won't stack on him, when he spellsteals it.
库尔提克精英剑圣
are warriors and do not have special abilities except that they sometimes focus a random target and attack it within the same second. This strike is called
库尔提克打击
and deals 150,000 damage per Blademaster. With all three Blademasters active it oneshots some classes almost as easy as good warriors do it right now in PvP.
Those adds stay active until killed and do not despawn when going into phase two, so it is recommended to kill them before pushing the boss under 75% HP.
In phase one the boss has those abilities:
回旋之刃
is a straight forward attack in a random direction of the boss, dealing damage in a line twice. Simply dodge the sword he throws and watch for it as it returns.
刃雨
is raidwide damage, which has to be healed. cooldown use for this ability in phase two is recommended.
When reaching phase two the boss gains the ability:
风爆弹
creates a zone where you should never stand at the position of a player. Those zones last until Mel'jarak is killed or the bomb is triggered which will result most lykely in a wipe. Prepare a pattern in which you want to move to prevent your tank from moving through a labyrinth. Several ways are possible, i.e.:
Filling up half of the room
Moving in a circle as a group (on different lanes)
Many other effective ways
The general tactic is to put assigned targets into CC and burn down the groups. I leave this point open, because which combinations you choose depents on your setup and preferred playstyle.
The usage of
嗜血
depends completely on your tactic. Some tactics use it to burn down the adds asap, while other ones need it to finish the Mel'jarak in phase two.
This macro may help yourself controlling your CC-target without loosing your actual target. Simply put your assinged CC-target as focus and press:
/target focus
/click ExtraActionButton1
/targetlasttarget
In conclusion: Feel free to experiment with Mel'jarak and don't be frustrated. This is not a boss where a general masterplan works. In fact I am looking forward to know what combinations you prefer with what type of setup, that a little compilation of viable tactics will create itself slowly in the replies.

LFR Strategy:
Tanks split adds and boss. If you've got a person willing to throw on a tank set and play 3rd tank for this fight, it could be helpful.
The groups of adds share health pools, based on their type.
If the group isn't too hyperactive, CC one of the menders until they are dead. Again, if the group is well behaved, CC one of the Blademasters as well so that they don't one shot dps/healers.
Kill the Menders first. Be sure that at least one interrupt is on each active mender so that the spell Mending (terribly creative on the naming) is interrupted. If Mending is successfully cast, all of the adds regain 5% health. While they are up, Mass Dispel the adds and boss to keep Quickening (haste+damage buff) at a minimum. Mages can spellsteal this as well.
Kill the Blademasters second.
Kill the Amber-Trappers third if you must, but it's better to leave them up.
Throughout, anyone available should be breaking Amber Prisons. It only takes a right click to do it, but each player can only break a prison once every 15 seconds.
Toward the end of the fight the boss throws Wind Bombs at players. Don't step on them, as they are bombs, and that is bad.
But why do we bother with the adds at all?
Each group killed increases damage done to the boss by 33%, so it's not wasted dps. They are also putting out a fair amount of raid damage, buffing the other adds and boss, and generally being a pain in the butt.
Killing the Menders is damage neutral as it effectively does 25% damage to the boss and removes a dangerous enemy buff from the fight. Killing the Blademasters requires a bit of extra damage done in the fight, as it effectively does an additional 15% damage to the boss, but it saves a bunch of healing and one-shotted players and is worth the trouble. The Amber-Trappers are only 10% effective boss damage and their ability in LFR is more annoying than anything, so you're wasting time and effort killing them. Worse, the boss's damage is buffed by killing them - it's best to just skip them.
As an example, because I know that there are going to be people wondering where the numbers above came from:
If I normally do 30k dps to a mob with 3M health, it will take 100 seconds to kill it.
With a 33% buff, I do 40k dps and it takes 75 seconds to kill it (25% reduction in time/effective health.)
With a 66% buff, I do 50k dps and it takes 60 seconds to kill it (40% total reduction, 15% for the extra 33% added on.)
With a 100% buff, I do 60k dps and it takes 50 seconds to kill it (50% total reduction, 10% for the final 33%.)
Why not just pull all of the mobs together on top of the boss and AoE them down while interrupting the Menders
?
You can do this, but it takes longer and more work than just ignoring the Amber-Trappers. The Menders will tend to be alive longer than they would otherwise have been and so you'll wind up with more stacks of Quickening. That said, getting an LFR group to ignore mobs or focus damage can be challenging at the best of times, so if you must, go for it.
tl;dr version
:
Kill Menders - interrupt Mending and Mass Dispel/Spellsteal/etc mobs and boss to remove a stacking buff.
Kill Blademasters.
Kill boss.
Break Amber Prisons (right click.)
Don't step on Wind Bombs.

The token can be redeemed at a valor merchant for the token armor that goes with your class. There are multiple versions of the armor for different specs, usually a DPS, healing, and tanking version.
The tokens can be earned by the last 3 bosses in Heart of Fear, and the 2 last bosses in the Terrace of Endless Spring.
