Aean Swiftriver is a Night elf outrider accompanied by two other night-elves and a human at all times, all of whom are elite, between levels 24-26. She always drops a scroll that begins the following quest:
The Runed Scroll:
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=3513
That quest has a followup that takes you to Stonetalon. If possible, you can do this followup quest and the quest "The Den" at the same time. Requires a group though.
The Den:
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=1089
Her path actually follows the flight path north from Freewind Post, so you should be able to scout for her if you fly from there to the Crossroads. The only place she deviates from this path is around Camp Taurajo, where she goes a bit east of the road, just past a pair of tents along the road. I'd recommend flying back and forth from Freewind post to the Crossroads to scout for her. Much faster than scouting on foot.
I did this as a level 30 subtlety rogue by sapping her, waiting till JUST before sap wears off, then ambushing her. By the time her friends had come back to aid her, she was already dead and I could Vanish to safety. I suspect a BM Hunter could sick her pet in and then focus entirely on her to kill her, then feign death. Any other classes would probably struggle though, so you may want to find a group.
Good luck!

Soloed all 4 with a lvl 24 affliction warlock. It took some deaths, but I got them in the end. Tanked one mob with voidwalker and DoTed it up, and fear juggled the others. It might be useful to know that if you kill one of the 4, that one won't respawn, so even if you die you can corpserun and then get the rest. Also, it seemed that if I just kept fearing the ones I weren't focusing on, without doing any damage to them, then they would reset after a while, and leave me to finish off the one I was damaging.

I tried to solo these as a lvl 32 Druid. Three deaths prove that I can't. :-(

solo'd easily as 66 hunter of course. Saw them last night, was 4 or 5 of them walking slowly on wolf mounts. All of them were rare, dropped 3 green items which i gave to the crowd that watched me kill them in a few seconds lol
I see them approx once every few days when i fly by.

They appear to spawn at the southernmost part of their route-- at least they did for me.

Exact spawn coordinates with Cartographer are (48.50, 79.70)
8 minute re-spawn timer.

If you're unable to solo the three and want the quest, and have a range instant attack, you can make use of the guards from Camp Taurajo. The group comes somewhat close to the camp. Use a range instant attack on whichever you want to kill when they're nearby, then start running them over. Ensure that every 8 seconds, you hit your target with that instant spell. If you're lucky, the guards will pick up the other three while you continue to kite yours around. It's long, and without a good mana pool and regen you could get screwed. I was able to manage this as a level 29 feral druid by using Moonfire to kite Aean, then using cat form to make distance when they got close. Of course, even then it was very close.

One of the Aillaince Outrunners

Aean Swiftriver <Alliance Outrunner> is a level 22 elite rare mob night elf found in the Barrens.
Aean Swiftriver is one of 4 Alliance Outrunners who are scouting the Barrens. The others are Hannah Bladeleaf, Marcus Bel, and Thora Feathermoon. The mounted outrunners ride a patrol from Bael Modan in the south to the Lushwater Oasis in the north. The outrunners are elite fighters around level 25 and will fight together. Unless you are prepared or are high-level, Horde characters should keep their distance.
She drops Runed Scroll that starts a quest for level 15+ characters, but is recommended for ~25. The quests rewards serve as twink-gear at 10-19 bracket.

Killing this outrunner drops the
runed scroll
, a quest which leads to the edge of the Barrens (Mo'shan Ramparts). From there, a player can then go to Stonetalen Mountains and do the second part of the quest,
Horde Presence
.
The
glove
reward from this is great caster gear, which are equal to
Gold-flecked Gloves
from Deadmines and
Serpent Gloves
, a drop from Wailing Caverns.
The
Trailblazer Boots
reward from this same quest chain aren't too shabby for their level, either.

Cant count how many times she and her buddies slaughtered my tauren characters on my way to Crossroads. Sure felt good to beat the crap out of them as my hunter.

23 hunter, aspect of the cheetah, kite. Don't get aggro on the others and only have your pet attack at the very end, you're good. Use aspect of the viper if you need mana (when you're at range). Easy mode.

Ran between Taurajo and Bael Modan for an hour and a half without finding them. Looked at all four NPCs' maps on this site to get their rough patrol route, spent some time waiting at the coordinates listed for them to respawn... nothing. I have yet to read a surefire strategy; trying for Loremaster and this is one of the few times Wowhead has failed me. This group of mobs definitely goes on my list of most annoying to find - right up there with the Harvester.

I have seen this group wandering around just south of the Lushwater oasis then crossing the dry river bed that bisects the Barrens. They march by Mankrik's wife; I lost them after that.

These guys are rather infuriating - I've run into them every single time I've gone through Southern Barrens with a lower level character (at that time I had no idea there was really a purpose to killing them, thus I avoided them like the plague if I saw them), but as SOON as I actually do need them, for Loremaster and The Seeker, they are nowhere to be found ...
Typical! >.<

As a Mage it should be easy get em together throw a blizzard/flame strike and they'll be dead in a sec. Pretty easy as a mage.

These guys are obnoxious if you're doing loremaster, but there's an easy way to isolate what part of their path they're on. At no point in the southern part of their route, except the hill just south of Camp T, do they loop far enough from their path to be out of range of the other end of their path (you should be using a /tar macro). A quick run around the hill south of Camp T will show they're not there.
If you follow their path south from Camp T and ride back up, you can make sure they aren't in the southern area. After that, ride up to where the mobs path in the circle up to the oasis. If they aren't on the lower half, then they have to be in this section. Just wait at the dry riverbed near (48,51) and they'll come to you.
I had been trying to find these guys for awhile and this method made it super easy for me, at least.
Happy hunting!

To say these guys are elusive would be an understatement.

I ran across the group at 50.2, 44.3. For those without coordinates, this is southeast of the Lush Oasis, where the road passes between two hills (they were on the small strip of land between the western hill and the road). Of note, for anyone trying to catch them as they move around, they were headed south. While I didn't plan this, it seems like a good chokepoint to catch them in.

As of the Sundering (Cataclysm), the Alliance Outrunners no longer patrol the Barrens.
