Quick Facts:
Name: Bloodtooth
ID:50854... however please note while stealthed scanners will not pick him up.
Family: Turtle (
standard - available to all hunter specs
)
Level: 87
Tracks:
沾泥的脚印
...his tracks are tacked forward, not backwards! In 5.0 it was backwards but 5.1 changed that.
Zone: Krasarang Wilds
Spawner: 2-4hrs
*~* TRAP BUG *~*
There is a pesky trap bug with Bloodtooth ATM. If you leave him in a Freezing Trap (say you found him and are helping a friend so you trap him) longer then usual (chain trapping) he despawns. It's quite distressing when it happens I've had him despawn after the second trap and a friend has had him despawn after the fourth. The solution right now is don't trap him (if 'holding' for a friend simply place hunter's mark on him and walk with him till your friend arrives), however if you're reading this because you have trapped him and he has despawned go back out there as he respawns fairly fast (1-5mins after despawn.) So far I've found him to respawn at his end points and the rule of thumb is he respawns at the end he was heading to, for example, if he was heading towards the Anglers end of his route he will respawn at the Angler's end point and start walking away from there. I've submitted a bug report with screenies etc so hopefully this will be fixed but until then if you have despawned him keep hunting because he will respawn at one of the end points.
Bloodtooth is one of nine elite beasts of Pandaria that only Hunters can track*. Bloodtooth is tracked along to coastline and islands of Krasarang Wilds. He does cross bodies of water, often, so be sure to keep an eye out for tracks on the sandy floor of the sea.
He looks to always have a smile on his face and he has a unique colour however I kind of wish he kept his awesome red fiery eyes but when tamed, for me at least, he lost that aesthetic feature and ended up with sky blue eyes instead.
*In MoP Hunters have the automatic ability of spotting rare tracks left by stealthed elite beasts, no other class can see these tracks. In order to tame one of these nine you must first find some tracks, follow those tracks and when you hit the end of the tracks fire off a flare and hold-your-breath-cross-your-fingers-pray-to-whomever that it reveals the stealthed beast. If not rinse and repeat until it exposes the stealthy elite. Once uncovered by a flare it's open season so in Beta if you want to flag the beast as yours but you want to see it's patrol path just throw a hunter's mark on it and it's yours (well that's how it is right now.)

Tamed him today at 7:45pm server time, Winterhoof. His tracks began about 16, 48 and I finally found him and tamed him on the tip of the island located at 40, 74. Took me about 15 mins to track him down. after finding the first track.
I believe I am the first on my server with him. :)

As of writing this (September 29, 2012) I can confirm that the tracks Bloodtooth leaves behind should be followed backwards. After losing his muddy tracks twice I decided to turn around. Lo and behold he finally decides to show me his adorable little face. Good hunting, friends!

Tamed him at 3:20 Eastern Time on Moonrunner, then about a hour later saw the muddy prints again and got my fiance to run over and tamed Bloodtooth again, hard to finally mark him because he walks VERY slow, as soon as you see his last print make sure you put your flare about 7-10 ft away from the print and you should have it come up, or around your flare another print should show. i lost him a few times, but finally tamed Bloodtooth on mine and my fiance's toon =] he has an amazing shield to protect him great for questing or farming! Also i can conform his prints are STILL backwards!
Happy hunting! =]

Guys, you have it all wrong.
His prints aren't just backwards, he is trying to make us lose his trail so we don't tame him. It is all according to his own plan.
But seriously, 10/1/2012 I tamed Bloodtooth and can still confirm that his tracks are still backwards.

Recently tamed Bloodtooth and was actually disappointed to find out that this rare isn't actually very rare. He share's the same colour scheme as the
Brineshell Snapper
in The Briny Muck area of Dread Wastes.
What's the point in having a rare pet if it looks like a normal common turtle.
* The colour of the skin on the screenshots looks slightly different, that is just because of the settings on the user's computer's. If you tame Bloodtooth and take him to The Briny Muck you will see what I mean *

@Denorvan:
While Bloodtooth share the same color scheme as Brineshell Snappers his shell is more spiky and mean looking in the front.
So hunters that know their rare pets will know that this is not just a lowly Brineshell Snapper :P

I tamed him yesterday. I got turned around several times, and I can't confirm whether his tracks are forward or backward, but the good thing is, it doesn't matter really. Follow the tracks till they stop. If you Flare and nothing shows up, turn around and go to the other end of the tracks. There you should find Bloodtooth. He paths through some areas with a lot of hostile mobs, but be patient - he'll get to an area that is clear, and you can tame un-hindered. He's a pretty good looking pet, but I am not sure he'll last long for me, as there's only so many stable spots and while his skin IS unique, it's a LOT like some others.

Just tamed him today, whether it needs to be said or not I'll say it.
His tracks are definitely still backwards.
Tracked him over halfway across Krasarang before finally getting him.

This cool pet was my third of the MoP hunter rare tames for today, and I must say I am really enjoying the hunt. At first, after reading some of the comments and learning what we had to do I thought it was going to be a potential nightmare lol. Tamed at approx 3:55pm on Khaz'goroth at 44.72 after following his tracks (and losing them a couple of times) through the islands. I think he walks fairly slowly, but it was a little hard to tell with being attacked from mobs around the areas so sorry I cant be more helpful there. I have the Tame Beast Glyph but not sure if it would really make a huge difference, so far they have all been very easy tames (once you track them down that is lol). I've said this in other posts about Patrannache and Savage so I'll say it here too. I Highly recommend those hunting these MoP pets to turn Ground Clutter to Low so that the tracks are easier to see, made a huge difference (especially with Patrannache).
Good luck and happy hunting!

I thought I hated turtles, but once I tamed this guy, I loved, loved, LOVED him. He's probably the best looking turtle model in the game. If you think you don't like turtles, give this guy (or another spiked dragon turtle, like Elder Seadragon) a try. They are like having shelled dragon pets, not turtles. Totally worth every hour I spent hunting this guy.
My strategy was wait near the wall at the end of his path. I waited 2 hours, but eventually his tracks appeared. I dropped a flare, but apparently he was already on his way back, so I tracked him down to near Dawnchaser Retreat and tamed him around there.
He escaped my flare a few times, so if you have a target macro that immediately places hunter's mark on him, that would be an amazing help. Once tamed, like all turtles, he has the amazing Shell Shield ability which makes him a great tank pet.

Bloodtooth is the first of the spiked turtles that I've tamed that was actually quiet (unlike Elder Seadragon and Krosh's super-stompy walk). I've tamed both him and Elder Seadragon twice now, to see if it was a bug. Elder Seadragon keeps on stompin' with every summon. Bloodtooth is a quiet lil Ninja Turtle. :)

This time, when I went to tame him he did attack back, unlike the others that i've tamed that kept walking. Doesn't do much damage though, so still easily tameable.

Just tamed this guy at the village where Su-Shi and that family is, I'd been following his tracks for awhile but every time I tamed him he ignored me, so I used Binding Shot then tamed him and it worked perfectly. Note to Hunters, he is invisible and can only be seen by Flares and be tracked by his tracks. Good luck out there Hunters.

Tamed on Sylvanas at 18:40GMT. Tracked him from the wall all the way to the Anglers Wharf. Was tricky to tame as he kept leaving the flare light, a freezing trap made him instantly vanish *He does not despawn, he just vanishes and continues on his way* After raging at the first Freeze trap mishap I noticed more tracks further up so carried on the chase.
Finally got him by the Wharf where he turned around and knowing his path I set up ahead of him and waited. Awesome pet.

Just a heads up. if you have started the shieldwall quests and have domination point available you will be phased from Bloodtooth for a decent amount of his path. if you find his tracks on the far west side of the map then go to 31,60 and wait for him to start leaving tracks. make sure you are zoned into krasarang wilds and not a subzone

I just tamed him (Dalaran Server - not sure that matters) at 2:37am.
Tracks were facing the correct way, but that poses a question, or two. First of all, I know that its been said that the tracks were "fixed" in 5.1, but I've also seen comments after that where the person said they were backwards. Thinking as a developer, and dealing with this type of texture, I would imagine that they are as they are and appear as he passes them. Thus "IF" he goes back and forth, then the tracks would appear correct on one part of his trip, but that's "IF" he actually goes back and forth. Some clarity on that would help others I think, but don't know personally.
Be sure you stay very close to him or he will stealth also. I lost him twice but luckily found him again. He won't aggro either which surprised me. He had 1.1 million hp. I started the tame without attacking, but lost him. When I found him the second time I stood right on him, started the tame, lost him again (stealthed). Third time I followed him, right on top of him and dropped his health to 800k. He just strolled on by which I didn't expect. Following the path I aggroed other things during the last try. Finally I moved ahead of him, started the tame and finally got him.

before i begin my story understand that im crazy about rares for my hunter!
SO THERE I WAS...... a young little huntard roaming the new content (and loving it btw) when i see the infamous "muddy tracks.." I get super excited, and follow them: one... then another.... then another! "I'M DOING IT!" i thought.... then.... nothing. no tracks, no rare, just lost in the middle nowhere. So i pop on this site and read a FEW comments that the tracks are BACKWARDS! ok that makes sense then! so backwards i go! allllll the way back. poppin' flares all the while. no beast. so i almost decide to give up, and i say to myself, "that just simply makes zero sense for the tracks to be backwards... so i turned around AGAIN and went back to where they first dissappeared, and followed the "trail" according to this site.... MORE TRACKS! so after getting to the END of the FORWARD facing tracks(no more to be seen) i pop a dismal yet hopeful flare one last time... B O O M ! ! THERE HE IS! MASSIVE BLOODTOOTH! gorgeous and wild, i begin to tame. F*C$#! TOO LOW LEVEL! i was 350k xp away from 87! so do i give up? NEVER! i targeted him with hunter's mark to prevent some losing him, and literally follow him arround the entire zone killing random 11k trash until DING! popped the trap and tamed. now THIS is why i keep playing WoW! happy hunting!
*********************LET IT BE KNOWN: THE FREAKING TRACKS ARE NOT I REPEAT NOT BACKWARDS!**************************** follow the tracks properly. 2/22/2013 fizzcrank 11:32am

This is my second rare MoP pet that I tamed after Savage. It took 10-15 minutes to track, find, and tame. I started from the most western point on the map given and worked my east until taming at The Deepwild at 35.77, 61.00. I had a previous turtle before, but this one IMO look the best out of all the turtles. Happy hunting fellow hunters!

This was my first hunter pet that I've tamed using the muddy tracks to find. I do have the
被烧毁的雕文
but it was difficult for me and took quite a bit of time. I found the muddy tracks easy without having to wait for a respawn at the beginning of the trail by the wall. The flares were easy as well to use to find him. I tried taming him from the back but he just walked through the flare circle and disappeared when the channeling was only about 1/4 of the way. I kept following him and retried with the same result. Finally I got ahead of him but even that took about three tries... I didn't want to use the ice trap because of the earlier comment that it despawns. I used the pin points on the wowhead map here to follow along his trail with him to get ahead of him. My advice, try to catch him where he is just entering the flare circle to tame and be in front of him.

It appears that the PvP factional daily areas that were added in 5.1 will interferre with the phasing of the tracks AND Bloodtooth; I lost his trail following his tracks west and couldn't pick them up again until I'd passed the oil refinery area. Entering "The Southern Isles" subzone makes the Muddy Track on the ground phase out (backpedaling back into Krasarang Wilds makes it phase back in).
(Edited for wrong patch, oops—I noticed it in 5.2 but the Krasarang faction dailies were added in 5.1!)

So this was actually harder than I thought it would be...after tracking his muddy tracks a while you sort of get used to how far apart they will be and can watch for the next one to gauge his speed. But his path actually is a variation of the one above. he DOES go around more of the islands, so if you get ahead of his trail, dont just stick to the path on the map.
If you set a flare and see him, he WILL get out of the flare area and disappear before the tame is complete. Attacking him does not make him agro you and stick around, and of course you can't have another pet out to keep him busy. What you need to do is gauge his approximate path. set one flare to un-stealth him, then walk with him while it cools down. once you can flare again, set one AHEAD of him in his path, far enough that it will take him 10 steps or so to get into the flare area. in the meantime he wont disappear on you, so start taming. If you spaced it right, the tame will complete before he passes out of the second flare area and ends the channeling.

I tamed him 01-11-2013. I researched his path and tried to discover him at several locations. I would recommend that when you do find his tracks that you first determine which direction he's going and then camp the appropriate side of the beach located at North (46 64) or South (49 67). The beach is narrow and practically mobless. Just keep an eye out for his first track then go to the other end of the beach and start popping your flares. Just be sure you have an empty pet slot before the attempt. Happy hunting!

Actually one easy way to get him is to let him come to you. Following tracks works, but you can often lose them. What I did was go to 49, 71 where he paths through and kept spamming flare. Took about 15 minutes for him to go through the flare on his way back to anglers, but well worth the time. Cool look pet also. Note like others here have said to hunters mark him immediately as he is fast and will keep moving even while you are trying to tame him. So get close to him and start taming he will just keep running from you but you will have enough time to tame him.

After spending hours flying over sand, and walking over sand, I decided to park myself in the middle of Bloodtooth's path. On the South side of the island, in the middle of the map, I flared and trapped the sand. According to the path on this map, I expected him to walk by.
About 4 minutes later, he hit the trap and froze in place. Unfortunately, I wasn't smart enough to shoot him to take agro, and I ended up interrupting my Tame Beast by mistake. He walked off and restealthed. At that point, I noticed his tracks are not the simple disappearing tracks I saw other turtles make on the beach. He leaves dark brown squares with a footprint logo in them, spaced out every so often to indicate his path. It took me another 5 minutes to flare and tame him.
So, I recommend flying over the sand once to look for these markers. If you don't see any, then just sit down and flare/trap until he comes to you.

After Patch 6.1, huntard has no hunter's mark, Freezing trap will de-spawn Bloodtooth, engaging wouldn't stop him/her moving forward. It was so frustrated.
If you really want this pet, you have to time your taming time right, starting the moment he/she walked into your flare area and make sure your taming ends before he/she step out of it, I suppose keep trying will eventually work?
Or another theory is you can get another huntard friend to help you place flare in-front of yours to extend Bloodtooth's nu-stealth time?

I just tamed him this morning, under patch 7.0.3 (Legion pre-patch). I wouldn't call it a difficult capture, but it was not easy, either.
For starters, he refused to aggro me. I thought it was because I was catching him right at the edge of a flare and he was just wandering out before I really got locked onto him. So I tried hitting him with concussive shot. Still no aggro. Fortunately, it slowed him down enough that I was able to tame him before he made it past the flare and disappeared.
So I suppose the moral of the story is, if you're going after this guy, you're going to at least need to use concussive shot. I didn't have wyvern sting in my arsenel to try this with, and so can't confirm if that would have worked. I also didn't think to go in as a survival spec for freeze trap. Frankly, I thought he'd attack me and it'd be a moot point, and then spaced on adjusting specs after the first 3 misses.

Easy Tame without a lot of hunting:
This is for those of us who are not into the thrill of the hunt as much as we just want to get it done without spending too much of our lives spent searching.
I made this small macro of
exact
Muddy Footprint coordinates of Bloodtooth's path along a short stretch of beach, before he returns to the sea:
/way 47.92 66.13
/way 49.63 68.39
/way 49.97 69.17
The first waypoint coordinates will be where you want to position yourself, and start sending off your flare. The last coordinate is your last chance at this location, before he returns to the sea. There will be a cliffside on your left, and 2 gators in the shoreline on your right, as you face up the beach & send off flares. If you lose him, you will still have some wiggle room to get him again.
Now that we no longer have Hunter Marks, I recommend using Wyvern Sting. You may need to go to an Inn or a big city first, to be allowed to change your talent point to Wyvern Sting, but you can always change it back later if needed. Note: you just select it & it applies--there is not actual 'apply' button.
Using Wyvern Sting will make it a LOT easier to tame the disappearing rares
, so they are put in a short snooze while you send up another flare when possible, then sting them again & start taming. This way, the rare won't party on without you as you curse the cool-down time of your current flare, meanwhile they've disappeared & paced out of taming range.
Hope this is helpful for my fellow hunters. Good luck!
