I have killed this boss with the 3 mini bosses down on beta Murmur server. The more mini-bosses down the easier he is, but less loot he drops. As others have mentioned he can drop a black drake mount if all 3 are up. The abilities he gains with 1 or more of the 3 mini bosses still alive are based on which ones are alive.
Strat: It's best to tank him exactly where he is, but on a 90 deg angle or sideways to his initial position. This makes it easier to avoid the tidal waves.
With all 3 mini bosses down, it's basically a tank and spank. He hits semi-hard, and I highly recommend 1 tank 3 healer 6 dps set up for it. As far as I can see, class make-up don't really matter. Try to have a paladin fire aura up though, or something equivalent.
He hits for about 6k on my feral druid in my blue premade toon pvp set (with about 3-4 of naxx 10 epics only). He also does a firebreath which I've seen hit for 13k fire damage, so make sure tank is always topped off. Just like on Nightbane in Kara, you don't want to be anywhere near his front or his rear as he cleaves and has a tail swipe. Also like Nightbane's constructs, this guy has a bunch of fire elementals that come out that need to be dealt with fairly quickly. The main difference is, Sartharion doens't fly away, so you still need to keep heals on the tank.
The main part of it the fight is the tidal waves as mentioned in the positioning. They go from left to right, then alternate to right to left. They're big walls of lava that you can't not spot. They have a gap or two in them. All DPS and healers need to move to a position where they can take advantage of that gap, as the wave will hit you for about 6k+, then put a 4k a second dot on you. In some cases, it's not practical for the tank to avoid the tidal waves, as doing so would get other members of the raid cleaved or tailswiped. It's fairly easy to see this coming though, so healers can prepare by ensuring the tank is topped off and has hots rolling. As a druid I used my Barkskin (1min CD -20% dmg) for this.
He dropped one tier 7 shoulder token, and the spirit trinket.

This boss will drop one of two flying mounts if you kill the boss with all three of the drake adds alive. Which of the two dropped depends on if you are doing 10 or 25 man.
10 man gives the Black Drake flying mount.
25 man gives the Twilight Drake flying mount.
Having this mount will likely be a sign that your raid likes to take challenges as the boss is harder with each drake add still alive.

To add to the previous information, killing him with all 3 drakes alive gives everyone in the raid a title:
10 man: <name> of the nightfall
25 man: Twilight Vanquisher <name>

Tenebron summons whelps to the battle if you leave him alive
-Best done with dk/pally tank, all adds (incl the fire elementals Sartharion summons) must all be pulled towards one spot where everyone aoe's them
Vesperon adds a raid-wide debuff that increases all shadow damage taken by 100%
-Not that deadly if you know Sartharions damage is fire aswell as the damage his adds do, the only shadow damage done is from Vesperon himself, wich is the easiest dragon to handle if everyone is focused
Shadron gives Sartharion a shield that reduces all damage taken by a certain amount (i have to get back on this)
You might have heard from a lot of people that Shadron like Vesperon adds a raid-wide debuff, but this is untrue
-One of the harder dragons to manage
Sartharion himself is actually pretty easy, but when you keep one dragon alive it suddenly becomes a whole lot harder.
The only thing you need to keep an eye on is that you get the adds down in time OR you drag them with you to a safe zone where the fire can't hit you so they don't enrage
Once you see a big wave of fire building up at either the left side or the right side you need to run to a save zone, there are two save zones where the fire can't hit you
A wave can come from either sides so beware that you don't get mixed up
When the wave comes from the left (whenfacing north) the save zone will be south (down)
When the wave comes from the right the save zone will be north

This boss is easily done by a pickupgroup on both 10 and 25man (without extra dragons, of course)
I'll discuss tactics, clearing trash and bosses from left to right.
Raid setup:
10 man - 2 tanks, 3 healers, 5 dps
25 man - 2-3 tanks, 7-8 healers, rest dps (three tanks is advised to split damage from adds)
-On the 4 dragon trash packs, fire orbs spawn like on 2nd boss in Ahn'kahet. They hurt. Move out.
-The double drakonoid pulls are tank and spank
First boss: Assign 4 (or 10 on heroic) people, including tank and healers to go through the portal every time, and kill the add that spawns in there. The rest stays on the boss, that's pretty much it.
Second boss: Slightly harder, in this portal he spawns a bunch of small dragons. Have 1 tank + 1-2 healers (or 2 tanks + 3-4 healers on heroic) go through the portal, aoe tank the dragons when they hatch, and keep tanking them until the boss is dead. Don't let dps kill them. He should be dead around the second portal.
Third boss: When he spawns an add in the portal, he will reduce all damage taken by 100%. Therefor, have 1 tank + 2 healers (or 1 tank + 4 healers) and ALL DPS enter the portal and zerg the add. Rinse and repeat.
Sartharion himself:
Have your main tank tank the boss facing left. The ENTIRE raid stacks up in melee range of the boss (Not behind him, he tail swipes and stuns.)
The main issue of this fight is huge fire walls coming from both sides, with a gap in them. When these come, EVERYONE except the MT has to move to the gap in the fire walls, otherwise they'll end up taking a lot of damage and probably dying. Note that these walls have 2 possible positions for gaps, so you need to be aware and move.
Every once in a while fire elementals spawn around the dragon, have your offtank(s) pick them up, and aoe them down when you have like 5 up.
The fight stays the same until around 10%, where he will spawn a LOT of fire elementals. Have your offtank(s) aoe tank them and have them spamhealed (Shield wall comes in handy here). DPS should nuke the adds down ASAP, this is a good time to use heroism.
If it goes well you should have some seriously easy epics and badges.
Good luck!

Compared to previous 25 raid bosses, even some Naxx 10 bosses, Sartharion was a joke as far as difficulty went.

I haven't done 25 man Sartharion yet, but in 10 man he frequently spawns 2 adds at a time. You need two tanks, one main tank for Sartharion and one off tank for the adds. A pally would probably work best for the adds, but I handled it just fine as a warrior. A /target macro would probably help a lot here, the adds are very small and they're sometimes hard to spot under Sartharion.
The adds start out as small lava elementals with 26k health, but if you don't kill them quickly, they turn into big elementals with roughly 80k health. So most of the dps (preferably ranged) should switch to the adds to kill them quickly before each lava wave (they turn into the big elementals when hit by the lava wave).
When Sartharion reaches 10% health, he'll summon a bunch of big elementals that need to be quickly picked up by the off tank. All the dps should just stay on the boss for the remaining 10% while the off tank handles the adds.

Here is what I got from my experience today, I pugged it too:
There is trash when you get in and they pull with Sartharion.
Mistress: Casts flame shock, flame orb, rain of fire, flame orb can be outdistanced easily, was tanked with an unholy deathknight, should be killed first.
There is also packs of 2 guardians roaming about.
Guardian: Shockwave in a frontal cone for 10,000, mitigated by armor. Will curse random party members, causing damage done by that person to have a chance to heal the target. Should be picked up and face away from raid and away from each other.
The 3 drakes all do flame breath, tail swipe, and shadow fissure. It is easy to see the shadow fissure and move out of it. The drake should be face away from the raid, going through the portals they spawn causes you to take 1000 damage a tick, they all have unique abilities:
Vesperon
Spawns a portal leaving a debuff on the group that causes damage when damaging him. All DPS and 1 healer and 1 tank should go through and kill acolyte.
Summons a portal, which all DPS and one healer should go through and proceed to kill all eggs. After about 20 seconds these eggs will hatch into whelplings with 60k health. Whelplings that hatched should be picked up by a tank and killed.
Shadron
Opens a portal and bubbles himself, reducing damage taken and increasing damage done. All DPS, one healer, and one tank should go through and nuke the acolyte. Once killed the bubble drops and you can kill the drake.
Now for the big guy.
Sartharion will melee for around 5-7k on a feral druid. He will also flame breath for 12-13k damage, keep your tank topped off. During the encounter he has some fun abilities:
Periodically he will yell something and cause one of the flame tornadoes around the platform to grow larger and spout fire balls. These fire balls deal 2000 AoE damage to random spots. They also have a chance to spawn fire elementals with 26k health, have a tank pick these up.
It is very important to know that if one of the fire elementals get hit by the flame wave, they get a 200% health, 100% damage buff. Essentially making them a pain in the butt!
Gratz to you if you can kill this boss, he's not too hard anyway :-P
Side note: Can anyone tell me if their is a trigger to the flame elementals spawning? We would get attempts with 5 every 30 seconds and attempts with 2 every minute...

Regardless of the normal tactics you have to follow:
Sartharion - 10 man - Vesperon still alive (one add-drake).
Vesperon will join the fight at 50%.
We tanked Sartharion at the left side of his island, the flank looking towards the instance portal (dragon head pointing towards Vesperons position). Vesperon lands at the tail of Sartharion, Def-Warrior taunted the Vesperon and pulled it towards the feral-tank who was tanking Sartharion. The feral-tank taunts Vesperon and now tanks both adds. Thats the moment when we did heroism, all DPS focused on Vesperon till he was dead, a CoH Priest healed Vesperons aura (we ignored the portal). The def-tank continued to pull the flame adds towards the camp, so the aoe abilities could kill the adds too.
After Vesperon being dead Sartharion did an soft enrage (faster attack, more damage) and the even softer enrage at 10%, when a new wave of fire adds spawned (which we ignored too).
Hints:
- Tanking Sartharion in the middle of the island, head pointing towards Vesperons position (left drake) allowed it to not move while the lava wall had the hole in the middle part, and only a short movement period when the other wall appeared.
- Building a camp, with everybody being inside the camp made it incredible easy to heal and to collect the fire adds. We had an off-warrior and a retri-paladin who could easily kill the fire adds with aoe.

Important:
If you take Sartharion with 1 add alive (in our case Tenebron), kill him when he comes into the fight. Don't just offtank him. If you do offtank him, then at Sartharion@25% Tenebron will enrage and wipe you. So, whilst dealing with the whelps that spawn and staying out of void zones, kill Tenebron ASAP then resume dps on Sartharion.
The wording of the achievement is horrible :(

Leaving this drake up increases shadow damage the raid takes by 100%

This is -wrong-. Well, Shadron is right. Our raid was somewhat ruined when we discovered that rather than take 100% more shadow damage, we had 25% less health. Here is how the first two should read:
Vesperon
Spawns a portal leaving a debuff on the group that causes damage when damaging him. All DPS and 1 healer and 1 tank should go through and kill acolyte.

Just my $.02:
I've only had the opportunity to try this boss on normal mode. I was offtanking his little fire adds and discovered I was fantastically bad at picking them up while learning how to dodge waves.
If you have leftover FR gear from BC, feel free to throw it on. The 4 armor pieces plus a totem and I took a little over half as much damage as I would without it.
You don't need resist by any means, but if the add tank has it and the sartharion tank is squishy, try it with a piece or two. It frees up your healers and is a good approximation of "training wheels". It helped especially during the 10% add zerg.

Clearing up on the adds abilities.
All three drakes do
Shadow Breath (H)
,
Tail Lash (H)
and
Shadow Fissure (H)
(lasts 10s) target is random. However, all three dragons have a specific aura that is a debuff to your raid.
For normal mode
Shadow Breath (N)
,
Shadow Fissure (N)
and
Tail Lash (N)
.
Vesperon
(
H
2,231,200
N
976,100 hp)
Power of Vesperon
-25% Health to the whole raid.
Summons a portal debuffing your group to take damage when you damage him. In the portal is an Acolyte (N) (? hp)/ Disciple (H) (390,990 hp)
Shadron
(
H
2,231,200
N
976,100 hp)
Power of Shadron
+100% Fire damage taken by the raid. Summons a portal and shields himself reducing all damage taken and increasing his damage done.
Going in the portal will damage you for 1,000.
There will be an Acolyte (N) (? hp)/ Disciple (H) (390,990 hp) which you have to kill in order to take the shield down.
Tenebron
(
H
2,231,200
N
976,100 hp)
Power of Tenebron
+100% Shadow damage taken by the raid.
Summons a portal, which all DPS and one healer should go through and proceed to kill all eggs. After about 20 seconds these eggs will hatch into whelplings with 60k health. Whelplings that hatched should be picked up by a tank and killed.
Hatch Eggs
Tenebron summons a portal in which eggs are spawned. After about 20s the eggs hatches into Whelps (156,396 hp - amount of whelps determined by Normal or Heroic mode) that do
Fade Armor
.
As for the boss himself, he has the following set of abilities:
Sartharion
Will of Sartharion
+25% to all of the drakes.
Cleave
Tail Lash (H)
Flame Breath (H)
Tail Lash (N)
Flame Breath (N)
He yells and making a fire tornado shoot fire bolts, in a yet undetermined fashion that deals 2,000 Fire damage.
At around 10%, he summons
Lava Blazes
(65,165 hp? (H) / 26,000 hp (N)) that if it by a wave, get 200% hp and 100% increased damage.
More data needs to be gathered as I am still lacking the exact infos on the fire walls, elementals, hp of acolytes and disciple verified? (I am a healer and I haven't look at most of these things). Feel free to correct me.

Dunno if this has been posted already but the
adds are not fire immune and they can be rooted.
Me and another mage took turns with frost novas in the late last phase.
Also, don't bother with AoE unless everyone's doing it. It's a long fight (at least on heroic) and you need save your mana.

A few things in the above posts that i saw go unmentioned:
1. To the fellow who commented on the elemental spawns - it appears as though a flame wave hitting a raid member may cause additional elementals to spawn, as well as raid members touching the lava around sartharion's platform (long enough to take damage)
2. Any drake left up will cause the drake(s) and sartharion to gain 25% health, no matter which drake it is (this is not an effect of vesperon; as such killing vesperon will not decrease other drakes', or sartharion's health by 25%.)
3. I think many folks (including myself and my guild initially) misunderstand the concept behind leaving the drakes alive. What is expected is essentially that you KILL each individual drake as they land. Killing a drake and then wiping to sartharion or other drakes during the encounter will respawn them as if they were part of the encounter, like FLK, majordomo, etc. Their emblems will be on sartharion along with the additional piece of loot they provide. You are most certainly not expected to off-tank the twilight drakes throughout the course of the fight.

For a guide with 1 or more drakes alive
(intended so that everyone else doesn't have to first experience the fight AND read through all these previous posts, as i did)
Leaving all the drakes up will cause them to periodically enter the fight. They each have their same unique abilities as they would if encountered before engaging sartharion in addition to each placing a unique negative aura on the raid.
1. Tenebron lands at almost the exact same time as the first flame wave at or around 20 seconds after engaging.
2. Shadron lands somewhere around 50 seconds after engaging sartharion.
3. Vesperon lands 80-90 seconds into the fight.
Please note that these times are
approximations
based on experience.
Sartharion and his abilities (the links are his Heroic versions):
Summons
Lava Blazes
. These mobs are small fire elementals, have 65k HP and will be affected by an enrage effect if they are touched by a Flame Tsunami. The enrage affect increases size, damage, and health dramatically. The raid needs to use good judgment to determine when these should be aoe'd down. EDIT: the spawning of these is on account of the raid taking any fire damage except from sartharion's breath (lava, flame tsunami, lava spouts)
Will of Sartharion
: As the tooltip suggests, this is caused by the presence of any twilight drake when sartharion is engaged. Killing the twilight drake(s) once engaged will not remove it.
Cleave
: Most raid members could take a cleave and live, but never should. Part of the challenge of this encounter with drakes up is keeping unnecessary damage down to a minimum.
Tail Lash
: Once again, raid members can live through this damage, however with drakes up it is imperative that this damage is never taken.
Flame Breath
: With Shadron alive (
Power of Shadron
), this will hit your main tank EXTREMELY hard. It doesn't appear to reset Sartharion's swing timer and is the main source of the burst damage the main tank will receive throughout the fight.
Another ability which wowhead does not list is his Flame Wave. After looking at a WWS report, it appears to be known officially as
Flame Tsunami
.
Since Wowhead has minimal information on it regarding details, i'll quote the WWS tooltip:
Flame Tsunami
Inflicts fire damage to nearby enemies, drenching them with lava, slowing them and dealing additional fire damage over 10 seconds.
This ability should be understood fairly quickly. It occurs periodically, every 20-25 seconds throughout the entire fight. The raid is fore-warned by an emote saying something to the effect of "the lava around sartharion begins to stir". Waves will form on either the north side of his platform, or the south, with intermittent breaks in which the raid needs to place themselves to avoid the damage. It is nearly deadly as it is and multiple raid members being hit by it is a huge amount of damage to heal through. With
Shadron's aura
it will more than likely be completely fatal. The initial hit may be fully resistable but it's pretty important that you never find out. The DoT effect it leaves can be cloaked, dispersed, bubbled, iceblocked, etc and should be to save your healers and yourself.
Another effect not mentioned is the random fire damage done to the raid (that i refer to as "lava spouts"). I have very little information regarding it, however it's clearly visible, and even occurs before the encounter starts. Small bursts of fire will spout out of the surrounding magma and hit random raid members for a few thousand damage, and it is clearly amplified by
Power of Shadron
. Its damage may also be affected by proximity, meaning the closer one is to where the fire lands the more damage it will deal. however this is just speculation.
Shared abilities of every twilight drake:
Each twilight drake has some unique abilities as well as some that are shared with each drake.
Every drake has 2.2 million HP on heroic, and will be affected by
Will of Sartharion
which brings them to approximately 2.7 million HP each.
The following are their shared abilities:
Every drake will cast
Shadow Fissure
. This spell will place an area-effect graphic on the ground, identical in appearance to Kel'Thuzad's. Raid members have about 5 seconds to completely clear the area. It will hit for 25,000 (i realize the ability itself specifies 13k), is partially resistiable, and affected by
Tenebron's Aura
. With multiple drakes alive, you will often see multiple Shadow Fissures spawn. They absolutely must be avoided, as they are more than likely fatal to the average raid member, and sometimes to tanks as well.
Another shared ability is their breath effect. Of course
Shadow Breath
should only hit the tank, and all other raid members should keep about 10-15yd range if behind the tank and keep clear of any drake's head at all times. It will not necessarily kill a raid member, but once again it is imperative to minimize all unnecessary damage when trying the encounter with multiple drakes alive. This ability will come up later when discussing Tenebron.
The only other ability they share is that which spawns a portal. An emote will appear, naming the drake and informing the raid that a portal will have spawned. However, what is inside, and the effects of the portal being up remain unique to each twilight drake and will be discussed in the next comment i make.

As aforementioned, Tenebron will be the first twilight drake to land, about 20 seconds into the fight, and at almost the exact same time as the first flame tsunami.
Power of Tenebron
will be in effect until Tenebron is killed. However, the only shadow damage sources are
Shadow Breath
,
Shadow Fissure
, and
Twilight Torment
(an ability unique to Vesperon).
His aura is the least detrimental of the three, in my opinion. However it shouldn't be ignored by the healers. The tanks on the twilight drakes will take noticeably more sporadic damage until Tenebron is downed.
Tenebron's portal will contain the eggs of twilight whelps. When entered, the player will be phased into a different realm where several eggs in the area will be targetable and killable. Any eggs inside the portal that are not killed before Tenebron casts
Hatch Eggs
, will cause
Twilight Whelps
to spawn in the normal realm. These mobs have 150k HP and have fairly low melee damage but should be tanked.
When attempting with multiple drakes up, it is important to know that Tenebron's portal should be completely ignored, the twilight whelps off-tanked until his death, heroism/bloodlust should be used, and Tenebron should be bursted down AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. Tenebron needs to be extremely low (below 30%) before Shadron lands and dead long before Vesperon lands. It is almost impossible to maintain stability throughout the encounter if your raid lacks the dps to kill Tenebron quickly.
Please note:
While casting Hatch Eggs as of 12/15/08 (the Monday before a patch), Tenebron seems to move around randomly, as though he's moving to the location of some eggs within his portal realm. This is very dangerous since he may randomly breathe on the raid. There is almost nothing you can do but be extra cautious of it and try your best to avoid it.
As soon as he is killed, the whelps need to be taken care of. If your off-tank is taking too much damage while trying to kill Tenebron, it may be best to postpone damage on Tenebron and eliminate some of the whelps and lava blazes. Killing Tenebron removes his aura from the raid as well as the spawning of whelps, once his portal has despawned.
The next drake to land will be Shadron.
Power of Shadron
will be in effect until he is killed. A person hit by a Flame Tsunami will more than likely die in only a few seconds, Sartharion's Flame Breath will hit for large amounts of damage on the main tank, and the lava spouts that do random raid damage will hit very hard while he is alive (although they're relatively rare).
He will spawn Shadow Fissures.
He will use his breath on the tank.
Shadron is, in my opinion, the most difficult drake to deal with during Sartharion's encounter.
When Shadron spawns a portal, it will place
Gift of Twilight
on Sartharion. This portal should be ignored, and Shadron should be DPS'd down quickly.
You will need to manage DPS between Lava Blazes and Shadron.
Once Tenebron dies, Shadron will be DPS'd; you'll likely have a multitude of adds, drakes and elementals alike, that need to be killed.
Vesperon lands about 80-90 seconds into the encounter. Until Shadron is killed, Vesperon will be off-tanked.
He will breathe on the tank.
He will spawn his own Shadow Fissures.
Vesperon's portal is negligible so long as Tenebron is down before he lands. While his portal is up,
Twilight Torment
will be in effect on the raid. It will hit for approximately 7000. His portal CAN be ignored but the presence of it should most certainly not be! The DPS in the raid will take fairly large amounts of damage now and can experience some spikes in health and should be monitored very closely. Whether or not to take Vesperon's portals is upto you. It should be doable either way. Leaving the portal up will allow you to quickly burst Shadron down, which can quickly minimize the amount of times your MT will need extra help for breaths. Going into the portal will stretch the fight out a bit; it will be more of an effort to maintain the raid, and less of a worry about Sartharion's enormous breath damage. If you have 8 or more healers, leave the portal alone (this is unlikely though). If you have 7 or less, I would recommend entering the portal as it causes healing to be very rough. If you enter it, a tank or a dps class with a shield needs to tank the acolyte and only 1 healer should follow with the majority of the dps that should enter.
While Vesperon and Shadron are both alive, it is important to note that the main tank will be taking INSANE hits from Sartharion's breath, upwards of 40k on account of
Twilight Torment
combined with
Power of Shadron
. The tank should be using any cooldowns that might be able to keep him alive (Unholy death knights have the most cooldowns to counter it atm) however using a 51 point holy priest's
Guardian Spirit
and a paladin's
Hand of Sacrifice
will likely be necessary regardless. You may choose to hold your heroism/bloodlust until the raid is dpsing Shadron if the tank lacks the cooldowns.
This is the most difficult portion of the encounter, and making it through with a large part of the raid alive will likely mean a kill. There will temporarily be massive amounts of damage to heal through, and the raid will also still have to pay attention to Flame Tsunamis and multiple Shadow Fissures. It is also on the DPS to push each twilight drake as fast as possible.
Once Shadron is down, the raid should switch to Vesperon. It is not a bad idea to keep the Blazes (and Whelps) adjacent to whichever drake is being DPS'd at the time. However the large amount of mobs near the melee can make it hard for them to see Shadow Fissures forming. If this becomes a problem, such positioning should be avoided, as it is not required, but merely helps.
It should be noted that with each drake's death, Sartharion will gain
Twilight Revenge
dealing 25% more damage 25% faster with each stack, up to eventually 75%. At 10% Sartharion will soft enrage, and with 3 stacks of Twilight Revenge still applied, does heavy amounts of damage to the tank as well as spams lava spouts, which causes a huge number of lava blazes to spawn. In an attempt with 2 or more drakes up, you'll likely have lost exhaustion and be able to heroism/bloodlust again for this.
Please note:
If you choose not to enter Vesperon's portals, you should be aware that his portal seems to remain open regardless of his death (although this could be a bug). Entering the portals once Shadron is down, or entering the portal once after his death is highly advised. I'm not aware of his portal "timing out" like Tenebrons does.
i hope this massive amount of poorly organized information helps! good luck!

Quick Tanking Guide for the MT:
The main tank's responsibility for this fight is simply to keep aggro and to avoid the flame waves. Offtank takes care of adds. Here is how you avoid the flame waves:
The island he is on is shaped like a rectangle, with lava all around. As you approach him from the bottom of this rectangle, he is up at the top. Imagine the bottom of this rectangle is zero, and the top of the rectangle is 100. You will want to tank him at 66 on this scale (2/3 the length). You will want to turn the boss sideways, facing either left or right, so your DPS can come at his side, since they'll get cleaved at his head or tail-swiped at the back.
During the fight, lava waves will periodically come from the left or right. When the lava wave comes from the right, there is a large break in the wave at about 50. When the lava wave comes from the left side, there is a break at 25 and 75. So if you position yourself 66, you will be able to strafe a small distance left or right to place yourself in the break in either lava wave and then move back again without actually moving the boss. (He will pivot in place a little.) If you see the emote, and don't see the wave coming from behind the boss, you will know it's coming up behind you. So that first time you dodge that one, you'll be moving blind. But after doing it once, it's easy to repeat.
I made it through the entire fight without being hit by the lava wave once, using this method. You can even tell the melee DPS to just keep even with you and they won't get hit by the waves.
Another note: your ranged should probably follow this same pattern, only standing at 33 on that scale. Then they can move up to 50 and down to 25 to avoid the flame waves, but without having to get close to the boss.

Enraged Lava Blazes can be tranq shotted to remove their enrage effect. They become enraged if they get hit by flame tsunami, gaining 200% hp and 100% to damage dealt, so be sure your hunters are on top of this.
I use a mouseover macro for tranquilizing shot, allowing me to hit any enraged blazes I see quickly, and without having to switch targets.

THE OBSIDIAN SANCTUM HEROIC WALKTHROUGH
GROUP LAYOUT
4 tanks (22k+ unbuffed, 35k+ with buffs)
6 healers
15 DPS
In your group you need a Paladin that is going to use their Fire Resistance aura.
You can alternate the amount of tanks, healers you have, or DPS included but this is how I did it.
TRASH
When you first enter you can go left or right. Either way you go you will fight 2-3 mobs, a mini-boss, another 2-3 mobs, a mini-boss, 2-3 mobs, then the final mini-boss. The mobs are very easy, just tank and spank.
MINI-BOSS ON THE RIGHT SIDE
This boss has 2.2 million health. The fight starts off like any other fight, but at a certain point the boss will open a portal. What you do is assign 2 tanks, 3 healers, and like 2 DPS to stay and fight the boss while everyone else goes in to the portal to kill the adds in the portal. There is usually just 1 82 elite in there. Once the add is dead everyone will be "ported" back to the boss and then you repeat this whole thing until you kill the boss.
MINI-BOSS ON THE LEFT SIDE
This boss has 2.2 million health. Do the same thing you did for the mini-boss on the right side.
MINI-BOSS IN THE MIDDLE
This boss has 2.2 million health and is probably the hardest of the mini-bosses. In this fight you
do not
want anyone to enter the portal. What will happen is when the portal is summoned everyone keep on the boss then in a few seconds adds will spawn. AoE them down or have a tank assigned to tanking them down. The rest of the fight is the same thing.
SARTHARION
This boss has 7.7 million health and is the main boss in The Obsidian Sanctum. Engage in combat and just fight. Every like 30-60 seconds you will see a message on your screen, "The lava beneat Satharion churls." When you see that, that means that in about 3 seconds a wall of fire will be coming towards your group from either the North or South side (it's random). There is a large opening in the middle of the wall where you want to stand so you don't get damaged by fire. After the wall passes a group of 82 elite lava mobs will be spawned and you want to AoE those down as fast as possible, or have one of the tanks tank them and have a few DPS help out because if you have an overflow of mobs then you will wipe. The rest of the fight is easy, that is all you need to know.
SIDE NOTES
- I did this on Kael'Thas (US) on Thursday, December 17, 2008 and it took just under an hour. The group was a pug full of people in level 72+ blues from quests/dungeons and a few epics. Out of the 25 of us about 3-5 had actually done this raid at all.
- We wiped once and it was on Sartharion because half the raid didn't know what the wall of fire was like. With 13-15 people we got him from 89% to 21% in about 10 minutes.
- If a pug can do it then an organized guild run shouldn't be a problem.
- Good luck and have fun!

Genuine question -- are the 1-4 emblems that drop for each member of the raid/dependent on how many drakes are up? I know that each drake has an emblem on them, and I wasn't sure the "average total" of emblems earned from this raid.

From my experience doing this on ten man with no drakes up...
The hardest part of this fight is less the flame wall and more-so controlling the adds. It requires a very good offtank to grab the adds and position them correctly to not get hit by the flame wall. As long as the blazes are not enraged the offtank can basically solo them, but having another melee or a hunter helping kill them is preferable (especially if its your first time).
Enraged Blazes revert to normal after a little while, maybe after a wave or two, as long as you do not have a ton of them and your offtank is not horrible he can and should just ignore them, focus on killing un-enraged blazes. When the blaze becomes un-enraged they, depending on how much damage they have taken, can be left with very little health or even die instantly (due to the nature of hit point buffs). Meaning that its a complete waste to dps down enraged blazes when they basically die on their own.
This is, of course, the ideal situation. If your raid keeps getting hit by flame waves then you will have more blazes and will be forced to DPS them down. if your offtank is not good and lets too many blazes enrage then you will be forced to DPS them down. Ideally, you want to do this fight with having no one save perhaps the tank getting hit by the wave and having at most one enraged elemental on the offtank between each wave. To that end, only practice makes perfect!

Just PuGed this on heroic (admittedly we were pretty imba) and killed him in under 5 and a half minuites with no deaths and only me (A raid healer) the MT and 2 dps actually done it before. Half the raid didn't even bother to dodge walls and we still won first attempt with no deaths.
To be honest this is only hard with the adds up - without its a joke.
Any raiding guild should do it with 1 add no problem.

a lot of people here say that on the middle minidragon boss, not to go in the portal. Well it doesn't really matter if you do or don't. A lot of groups I've gone with had everyone go inside the portal and aoe the eggs down, because they have about half the health as the whelps would have. This way makes it easier but if you don't do it fast enough, they hatch and come with full health, and you just wasted mana.
edit- I don't see why this was rated down, im just explaining some strategies on the seconds drake...

He spawns Fire Elementals that have low hp which are supposed to be tanked by the OT, also if the Lava Tsunamis hit the Elementals, their health triples and enters an enrage mode. At the end of the fight over 6 of these elementals spawns, followed by a lava tsunami. If the lava tsunami the elementals, its a wipe.

Partially correct. He gains abilities based on the number of drakes left up and after an interval calls in the drakes to assist him. I do not know if they all come at once or if they come at regular intervals as my guild has only just recently killed him with a single drake up.
Since the fight becomes more complicated with more drakes, it is advisable to focus on killing the drake once it becomes active. The boss will drop additional emblems of valor for each drake killed while he is engaged, but be warned! Once a drake is dead it stays dead even if you wipe and you only get credit for it if you kill Sarth.

I made an account just to point out the inaccuracy of this post. Each drake that is left alive once Sartharion is engaged will put a debuff on the entire raid. Tenebron's will increase shadow damage taken by 100% (making void zones very lethal), Shadron increases fire damage taken by 100% (making flame waves, fire elementals, and especially engraged fire elementals very lethal), and Vesperon reduces the maximum of HP of everyone by 25%. These debuffs are applied to the entire raid the instant Sartharion is pulled. Once each drake is killed the respective debuff wears off thus making the fight somewhat easier. Also, if you kill any of the adds during the fight with Sartharion, they WILL respawn for your next attempt if you wipe. If you kill them before you pull Sartharion however, they WILL NOT respawn. Killing him with 1 drake up yields an extra item of equal value, 2 drakes up you also get an additional item of higher value, and 3 drakes yields you both of those drops and a Black Drake Mount (10 man) or a Twilight Drake mount (25 man).
Also, each drake comes down at a set interval. Tenebron first, then Shadron, then Vesperon. There is an even amount of time in between each of them before they land. If you are going for one drake, go for Tenebron, just let the eggs hatch, and AoE them down. If you're going for two, go Tenebron and Vesperon, thus giving you the most amount of time to down Tenebron before having to deal with Vesperon. If you are going for three, you probably know more than what I'm typing here.

The info at the top REALLY needs to be corrected. The extra item Sartharion drops with 1 drake up is NOT from his normal loot table. It's a separate table of same-ilvl items. You can tell this simply by the considerably lower drop rate listed on items like the
Volitant Amulet
. Unfortunately, someone did some trimming on this page so the posts saying what items were a +1 drake only drop from Sartharion are no longer here.

If you pull him off the platform in the centre he spams the raid with 2k fireballs, each one leaving a stacking debuff that increases fire damage taken by 2000.

Has nothing to do with swimming in the lava for too long; it's the Fire Cyclones - the same which cast Lava Strike at us, that toss people in the air about 80 yards away.
This ability is called Burning Winds, and is only triggered if you walk
in
one of the cyclones.
It actually doesn't do that much damage... you can ping-pong yourself from one cyclone to another if you're bored while loot is being distributed. It's fun.

OT:ing this boss is a %^&*!. Not only are your DPSs spread all over the place, the adds spawn from any direction, and you and everyone else need to keep moving to avoid the firewalls. In order to simplify the OT:ing, you also need to keep the adds out of the firewall (the grow stronger if they get hit by the fire). Towards the end, a stream of adds appear and you as the OT need to keep them on you long enough for the boss to be killed. The only relief is that the adds don't hit that hard, so you get a few extra seconds to pull them off the DPSs.

Edit: Every few seconds, everyone outside the main island will be cast by the above spell, doing fire damage and increasing fire damage they receive for a minute. Sartharion will emote "Burn, you miserable wretches!" when using this ability.

This is the following build that my guild used to down 3 Drakes in 10 Man using 2 Tanks and 2 Healers:
Druid - MT
Death Knight - OT Unholy Spec
Priest - Holy
Pally - Holy
Pally - Ret
Shaman - Enhancement
Rogue - Extra Daggers with Anesthetic Poison
Warrior - Fury
Mage
Hunter
As the DK OT, make sure that you always have your Unholy Blight to pick up all the adds. Wandering Plague is a great talent to aid in this. And always be sure to make use of your Death Grip and Dark Command in order to keep the adds off of the Raid.
The Rogue will switch to his dagger with Anesthetic poison and Fan of Knives when there are too many enraged Lava Spawns.
Sartharion will be tanked by the druid away from where the 3 Drakes will land.
We had no DPS on Sartharion at all in the beginning, all DPS done to him is after the 3 Drakes are downed.
Have the OT stand where the first drake, Tenebron, will be landing. It is a good idea for the OT to throw in 2x Icy Touch's on Sartharion while the MT is pulling him away to the tanking position, as well as using Death and Decay, Bone Armor, and Horn of the Winter to build up your Runic Power. Have a Misdirect on the DK right when he lands. All DPS will be on the drake the moment that he is attackable since the OT should have enough threat on him. Depending on where the firewall is, the OT might have to reposition himself while keeping the drake facing away from the DPS. If you get a firewall coming from the north side right when Tenebron lands, have the melee DPS jump into the lava to avoid the wave while still being able to DPS on the drake.
The eggs from inside the portal hatch about the same time that the second drake, Shadron, lands. So make sure that the OT is there ready to pick up the 2nd Drake right when he lands. Throw a Death and Decay right where the Portal is so you can pick up all of the Whelps that spawn. You should have enough Threat on the 1st Drake so you no longer need to target him and stick on the 2nd Drake. Make sure that all of the adds are always in front of you and never behind you. After the 2nd Drake lands and you have both Drakes, Lava Spawns, and Twilight Whelps on you, refresh your Bone Shield and pop your Icebound Fortitude and Anti Magic Shield. This will reduce damage taken by about 40%. Right after the 1st Drake is dead, move on the aoe the adds and down them. Around this time is when the 3rd Drake Vesperon will be landing.
Make your way over to where the 3rd Drake will land, always walking backwards so you are facing him. All other raid members should move aside so that the Drake does not breath on anyone. After you pick up the 3rd Drake, you want to move them so that they are kind of next to Sartharion and the OT is next to the MT (but not too close). This will allow the healers to heal the tanks more easily. After the 2nd Drake is dead, all the DPS will go into the portal. Inside, have the Ret Pally and Shaman pick up on the healing where necessary. Shadron's add will be the first to be killed followed by Vesperon's. The people outside will tell the ones that are in the portal when it will be safe to zone out to avoid an oncoming firewall. Afterwards, the DPS will be on the 3rd drake trying to down him. The portal will keep on popping up, but do not go in afterwards.
After the 3rd Drake is down, the OT will have to pick up all of the adds that will spawn at this time while the DPS is on Sartharion. Just make sure not to DPS too hard when you're health is low or you will drop like a rock. At this point, either the Ret Pally or the Enhancement Shaman will have to start healing as well. You can always switch tanks so that the DK tanks Sarth and the Druid MT can heal or Tank the adds (whichever works best for you).
Enjoy your new Black Drake and "... of the Nightfall" title!

Its actually possible to simply zerg sartha with 3 adds up at normal mode. You have about 80-90 seconds to do that.(before shadron add will spawn @ portal)
1 tank , 1 heal , 8 phys-dd(4k dps each with out bloodlust/heroism).
At 25% boss , Drakes will enrage and you ll have to kite them by hunter.

Improper tooltip. Sartharion

For Death Knights tanking Sartharion, if you use Icebound Fortitude when he starts to cast Flame Breath then the buff will last just long enough that he'll usually cast another FB just before it wears off. That's two FBs' damage reduced a good amount for one CD of IF.
Might as well eek out every second's usefulness that you can.

I'm not going to go into as much detail as some because I'm talking about 25 man 3D and it's really a simple fight. After Sartharion is engaged, you will have approximately 30 seconds before Tenebron lands where Sartharion was originally standing. Melee must burn him down as FAST as possible. You do not want a second wave of whelps. About 30 seconds after Tenebron landed, Shadron will join the fight. This is when we blew Bloodlust and personal cooldowns to drop him as fast as possible (faster than Tenebron if possible). 30 seconds after Shadron landed (or thereabouts), Vesperon will join the fight. Shadron should be less than 50% at this point for a successful kill. DPS needs to make sure he drops quickly now, because with both Shadron and Vesperon up, the tank is capable of getting 1hit. Tanks need to work out a cooldown rotation with healers to keep them alive during this phase.
If you can get Shadron down, the fight is basically over (if you have enough people left alive). At this point you take the portal when Vesperon spawns it, tank the adds and kill them, then dps Vesperon, etc etc repeat, until he dies. After that it's just cruising through an easy Sartharion + no drakes kill to a title and chance at a mount!

I'm curious about Sartharion's flame breath - how often does he use it? Does it have a reliable cooldown? Can I predict when its going to hit, but 10 seconds in advance?
I've main tanked him several times with my druid, both on regular and heroic (with no drakes up - I PuG it), but I'm interested in healing it with multiple drakes up. I'm trying to figure out if I can time a 3 stack of lifebloom to bloom very shortly after each of his breaths to quickly get the tank back to full.
In short: can I time lifebloom to reliably bloom just after each breath, or does he use it at random?

So, does anyone know exactly how long you have to do the zerg tactic? I.E. When, exactly does drake II spawn his first portal? Or, does Sartharion go immune right when the second drake is targetable?

If u can find the group that has a great healer and great tank and dps that are all around 5k dps u can just Zerg Sarth....
Complete Pug on Thunderhorn 1 tank 1 healer 8 dps just downed him easily...
This might be a easier alternative to doing it the Normal Way

Sartharion can be "zerged" down with all 3 drakes alive.
Zerged meaning just blow all you cooldowns and kill Sartharion before the 2nd drake (shadron) lands. If he isnt dead by that time shadron's acolyte will put the immunity bubble on Sarth and it will be a Wipe.
Group comp is:
1 tank (tanks both Sarth and Tenebron)
1 Healer
8 Dps - all need to pull 4.5k or better.
Most groups tend to lean towards full melee or full ranged to maximize raid dps buffs but any group is fine so long as you can pull the required dps.
Also the last key part to zerging sarth 3D is have a dps (warrior/pally/dk/druid) taunt Tenebron off the tank and kite him away when sartharion is about 22% HP . The reason being that Tenebron will enrage and start hitting the tank for 30k.
If all goes well you should have yourself a nice mount and "of the nightfall" title.
Edit : i fail didn't reading all the comments T_T

Going for 10man 3Drakes.
Be sure to have well geared ppl who can output atleast 5k DPS nowdays.
Have a Priest Healer and always a shaman in the raid , this is one of the most important Raid setup.
If you are gonna go with Kiting the first drake when landing, have a Hunter with offspecc BM and Exotic Pet, one of the glyph which can be usefull here is Glyph of Mend pet.
As soon the 1st drake lands, the Hunters pet will be on passive and the hunter takes on Aspect of Cheetah NOT Pack. Missdirecting the Drake to the Pet and run away from the entire raid, and keep healing the Pet while he gets fireboll.
IF everything done correctly, you only need to succes at kiting for not more than 30 sec.
Doing this as guild farming for drakes and works very well.

Im also wondering, can 25m 3d be zerged if you have a setup with like 1 tank, 3 healers and 21 dps all with 5k+? Or is there something different between 10 and 25 that would make that implausible.

By the way, something interesting for DK tanks.....
I was tanking him and his little buddies last night, when I discovered
Spell Deflection
can proc off his breath weapon. I was a bit surprised. I took one hit that would have gone for 40k (would have crushed me), but it got bounced down to about 50-40% of that (it triggered WotN also).

Seems that there was a recent change to make the OS 3D zerg more 'user friendly'- at the time of posting, the death of Sartharion causes any Twilight Drakes still alive to become untargettable and no longer attack the raid. Instead, they circle around Sarthy's little island, almost like they're congratulating you. Strangely enough, the small elemental adds remain active after the drakes disengage and you are also stuck in combat until you leave. Adds still enrage etc. when Sarthy is on low health- seems this is only a user friendly adaptation to save you a wipe to angry drakes after your zerg.

A word of advice: If you've never set foot in OS10 during Wrath and go back to 6-man the place with all 3 drakes up, you won't have to spend 4 weeks doing it +0, +1, +2 then +3. You'll get all 4 achievements instantly.

Just 6 manned 25 man 3d today with:
Feral Druid
Blood DK
Resto Shaman
Shadow Priest
Destruction Warlock
Ret Paladin
Elemental Shaman
We tried zerging, but ended up coming a little short before Sarth became immune. We then decided to do it the "correct" way and had little trouble. Bear tanked the drakes and Sarth, DK tanked the little adds. DPS (all over 10k) burned down each drake, went into the portals, and it was game over.
Best of luck to others who do it. Good times.

It is possible (at times hard) to solo the Thrash, but Sartharions Lieutenants were quite easy. Needed help on Shadron, since he despawns while you are in Twilight Realm (he becomes immune to damage) and solved that by having one afk friend there.
2g per thrashmob
15-18g per Lieutenant
and 170g on Sartharion

Two-manned the 10-man version with 3 drakes up today. Feral druid tank with avg ilvl 355, restoration shaman healer with mostly 372 gear.
Basic strategy: move out of bad -> tank should pick up all adds -> DPS order: Sartharion until Tenebron lands, then Tenebron, Shadron and Vesperon -> once Vesperon is dead the tank burns cooldowns and the healer goes inside the portal to kill Shadron's acolyte and remove the immunity shield from Sartharion -> kill Sartharion, profit.
A bit more in-depth strategy

soloed 10man +0 on my 80 lvl DK, gear- max possible mastery ( had around 58), tank gear with 3 or 4 dps. used mastery+ resist elixir, drums, lvl80 runescroll of fortitude. dont remember exact stats, had 58 mastery, around 15+15% dodge+parry, 177 fire resist.
important to have butchery for rune power regen from killing adds and unholy command for deathgrip cd reset to grab them fast from lava wall, so they wont get the enrage. The fight wasnt very hard with fire res, didnt use any cd on 2nd kill before 12%. 12% soft enrage was fun, had to manage all CD to avoid 1shot- army, antimagic ( with glyph), rune weapon, vampiric blood, icebound, healpot ( got alchemy).

Duo'd him with level 85 Blood DK (don't remember his ilvl but it is higher than mine in Resto). I was Resto Druid in ilvl 360. Took us quite awhile but was fun. Sadly, we went there for the achievement and not for the mount so we killed the drakes before him. Anyways, the fight is easy as long as you kill the spawning fireadds. And I mean it, kill them. Is annoying to try to heal through the damage and run around the platform with 20 adds after you.
Also, just try to find a place at Sartharion's side, since he does have Tail Lash and Firebreath. Forgot his tail and he knocked me down and I got hit by lava wave and then I was thrown around the fiery vortexes on the lava. So if you have to choose between his head or tail, take head. Doesn't do so much damage.

If anyone is curious, it is possible to kill Sartharion with all 3 drakes up on 10 man mode with just 3 people. Was able to do it with an arcane mage (~30k dps), combat rogue (~18k dps), and a blood death knight (~12k dps).
In terms of how much damage we took during the fight, I personally took virtually nothing as the tank due to the fun blood mastery, mage took a massive hit from the drake due to a late taunt, and the rogue was still pretty healthy. We all survived with an achievement and a drake.

How to kill as of patch 4.3.3
We had a few tries to work out the best way but we easily did this with 4 characters (Tank, Healer and 2 DPS).
You wont be able to kill Sarth before she goes immune with only 4 people so you just need to kill the Drakes as they land and ensure that the small fire adds are kept under control. For the tank you must ensure that tank cds are used when 2 drakes have landed as the damage, including the 100% fire, 100% Shadow damage and 30% Health reduction debuff, starts to make the damage on the tank quite high.
(Everyone must remember to avoid taking damage, avoid fire walls and dont stand int he void zones as they will heavily damage you and could kill you.)
Remember that as soon as Sarth goes immune the 2 dps must take the portal and kill the 1 or 2 adds inside the portal then exit and keep killing the Drakes and small adds. Once the 2nd drake is down the damage eases off and you just need to kill the last drake and clear up the adds; then its a normal kill.
While sorting the tactics we did wipe a few times whilst we worked out what we needed to do and we had 2 wipes where we didn't kill the small fire adds and we ended up overwhelmed and the tank died so keep on top of them.
Once killed we repeated 3 more times as we took 1 main toon with 3 alts so we could all get the drake on our mains in one week although the thing to note was Blood DK was easy to heal as was our Bear Tank - the 2 Pala tanks we used took a noticeable increase in damage.
Good luck and enjoy the mount!

Ok, just tried soloing it on my Blood Dk (180hp, iLv 390). The fight itself seems easy, but damn Vesperon gets in the way! I tried killing him, and he casts that damn shield. 100% immunity. Go through the portal, baam, reset. So I tried killing the main boss with Vesp still up. Same thing, only he makes Sarth immune, and then you go through the portal and baam, reset. Am I missing something, or is this raid not soloable because of this mechanic? A few people here claim to have done it, I don't see how it's possible. The shield goes up like 20 seconds into the fight. Thoughts?

Did 10 man with a level 82 tank, an 85 healer, and 3 85 dps. We had to bring in an extra dps because our dps was so high we kept pulling off the tank. The higher dps helped outweigh the tank not keeping aggro on 3 DS level dps lol

He is soloable by a level 85 Demonology Warlock.
Just use the most simple tactic and zerg him down.
Once he reaches 25% and a drake ist still alive (which is inevitable) use demonic cycle and run for your life since he goes enrage.
For better illustration I included a youtube video of the fight:

3 Drakes is now soloable for enhancement shamans (I'm currently 474 ilvl with 463 weps). At the start, I popped FET, FS, lust and Stormlash (NOT Ascendance). I burned Sarth down as much as I could. Once Tenebron started landing, I popped Ascendance and Spirit Walk, and then start strafing towards the entrance while continuing to DPS (Tenebron still hits like a truck). I had Sarth dead just as the first lava wall spawned. Easy Black Drake mount :)

Also quite easily soloable by Feral druid with average gear aswell.
Save Berserk for ~60%, when damage gets heavier in the end, use Savage defense, Barkskin, Heart of the wild + Might of Ursoc -> transform bear and Lacerate + Mangle your way to victory.

Duo'd 25M + 3D as ilvl 447 Prot Paladin and 472 Arcane Mage. Was simple once we got it down. Just burned each drake as they came in and once we got all of them down the dps went in the last portal to kill the adds. Once they were down and Sarth wasn't immune anymore it was an easy tank and spank just keeping the adds off of the dps.

People posting strategies and saying this fight is soloable need to be mentioning whether it was 10 man or 25 man. It's fairly easy to assume if you've run either before or tried personally, but would be good for people who aren't familiar with the instance at all to know what to expect in 10 man and/or 25 man.

Soloed 10 man with 3 drakes in 44 seconds as a 472 elemental shaman. I died a few times trying it but finally did it.
I was forgetting about Astral Shift.
I opened with Elemental Blast just after popping down my Searing Totem and Healing Stream Totem. I hit Unleash Elements, Blood Lust, and Ascendance. I hit Flame Shock then spammed Lava Burst until Elemental Blast was ready. After that, I popped Astral Shift, Healing Tide Totem, and did normal rotation until he was dead. I had to use Healing Surge a couple times but it wasn't bad.
This got me my third mount tonight. Malygos was so kind as to drop the blue and azure drakes.

as a Demo Warlock with Wrathguard.
Tactic:
Yes, it is possible to easily obtain Reins of the Black Drake and "of the Nightfall" title now! Just kill Sartharion before the second drake (Shadron) lands. When the first drake (Tenebron) lands, your minion should start to tank him. The drake will enrage once Sartharion gets to low health (25%). Remember that before you pull the Boss it is necessary to clear the trash! Good Luck and Have Fun!

Downed
Sarth 3d 25 man
with 2 players.
90 Fury Warrior and 90 Resto Shaman
Warrior tanked Sarth and grabbed up Dragons and adds as they spawned came down.
Once all 3 blue dragons were dead - and all current add spawns were killed, the warrior took the portal and killed the two adds inside. Shaman tanked easily healed through Sarth's dmg and the few add spawns that came up while warrior was phased.
Once warrior came out of phase the portal didn't respawn and downing him was easy.
** Note: Shaman tried going into the portal a few times, first healing the warrior to full and popping a healing stream totem before going in but could only get one of the adds to about 70% before had to come out and heal.

Just soloed today as a mage 90 481 ilvl. (HARD MODE ovbiously)
I had to use every cd + flask + pot to be able to do kill it. When Sartharion is at 20%, Tenebron will start attacking you, and he hits like hell (60k). So i popped Ice block when Sartarion was at 5% or so... and waited for my pets to kill him. At last, he was killed with Ice Lance, but without FoF.
Have fun!

Solo'd him today on 25man. I tried doing it 3drake first, but quickly realized that wasn't happening, and killed off the drakes first. Shadron gave me problems, because of the fight bugging out if you enter the portal to kill the add. However, this could be bypassed by using this method:
Pull Shadron to Sartharion and engage the boss. DPS Sarth until Shadron uses his shield on him, then switch to Shadron and kill him. Then enter the portal to despawn Sarth. Shadron will now respawn in his normal location, where you can go kill him. For some reason he won't use his shield ability now. I don't know why this works, but it does.
I was pretty close to being able to dps Shadron down before he cast the shield, so it may be possible to do this solo with better gear, without "bugging" Shadron.

Warlocks! This guide is for any of you wanting to pull off a solo
暮光领域(10人)
(Sarth 3D) and claim your
黑色幼龙的缰绳
all by yourself. My soulstone and I got pretty well acquainted while I was getting this task down. I tried many specialization, talent, and glyph combinations before success. It took me long enough to get him down and enough attempts that I felt obligated to dance on his corpse when I finally won. Good times.
I pulled this off with my level 90 warlock, geared to only about 465 in quest greens, blues, and a handful of epics.
Specialization: Destruction
Talents that mattered: Soul Leech, Dark Bargain, Grimoire of Supremacy, Archimonde's Vengeance
Glyphs that mattered: Siphon Life, Burning Embers, Demon Training
The basics: Voidlord tanks Sarth and adds, you burn Sarth, when the Voidlord gets eaten, you Demonic Circle and Gateway away, kite Sarth and finish him while fleeing for your life. Success!
Setup phase: place your Demonic Circle at (56.8, 54.9) just across the lava south of the southeast-most point of Sarth's platform. Run up the hill a bit and place your Demonic Gateway standing at (56.6, 61.8) while aiming as far west as possible, just across the lava at (50.7, 61.2). You are going to be fighting Sartharion from about (55.4, 50.8) but you will have to adjust a bit. Target Sarth and get just close enough to where he's in range of your spells, but you don't have to move much to hit Demonic Circle: Teleport. This sweet spot is pretty important because you want max range on Sarth so that when your Voidlord dies, you can zip right to your Demonic Circle, then run up the hill to your Demonic Gateway as fast as possible.
Execution:
Step 1.) While standing at max range, send your Voidlord in on his own. Just before he engages, hit Dark Soul and Terrorguard. Throw up CotE, Immolate, then spam Conflag and Incinerate as fast as possible while keeping Immolate up. Forget Chaos Bolt *unless* you have filled up all four Burning Embers. (Saving four Burning Embers is the key to killing Sartharion while fleeing later.)
Step 2.) Once Sartharion is engaged, the countdown to Tenebron begins. You are going to stay on Sartharion no matter what, but Tenebron is important because once he lands, you're going to need to jostle back and forth just a bit to stay out of his void cirlces. Also, try not to get hit by the flame waves because you want to be casting 100% of the time, not flying backwards into lava. You will notice that Tenebron does a massive amount of damage to your Voidlord. Don't heal him, forget him, he will use his own cooldowns. Burn Sartharion. When your Voidlord is about 10%, Sartharion should be really close to 20%
Screenshot of setup.
Step 3.) Your Voidlord is about to die and all the whole world of hate and discontent Sartharion, Tenebron and all their adds have saved up is about to be focused on you. Just before the Voidlord goes, you start running. Hit Demonic Circle: Teleport to get across the lava then run up to your Demonic Gateway. Hit it and keep running!
Step 4.) It's kiting time. This is accomplished by auto-running away from Sarth, jumping, turning and hitting an instant-cast, then turning back again before you land so you are always moving away from the mob of death behind you. Sartharion should be well below 20% by now, if not you'll have to throw out a few Conflag's and Fel Flames to get him there. If he is below 20%, burn those four embers on Shadowburn as fast as your fingers will let you. The pack may catch up to you. Hit Dark Bargain if Sarth isn't already dead. You have 8 free seconds to keep running, spam Conflag and Fel Flame for embers and spam Shadowburn. Boom! Sartharion dies a grisly, fiery, but very satisfying, death.
I killed him at about (53, 60) and the fight lasted 1minute 16sec. It's pretty intense. If you are really efficient with your porting, you may find that you've gotten too far ahead of Sartharion. No worries, he will catch up just fine. Worry about the jump-kiting and keeping yourself alive. Also, once Sartharion dies, Tenebron and any other drakes go away; *however*, all the whelps and lava guys that spawned *do not*. Don't be surprised if a mass of whelps comes flying at you trying to eat your face.
Collect your loot! Yay!
WIN

I finally soloed this as a shadow priest with item level 472. I made two macros that make this fight much easier to deal with.
#showtooltip Shadowfiend
/tar Tenebron
/cast Shadowfiend
#showtoolip Fade
/tar Sartharion
/cast Fade
All of my failed attempts, I was only using the shadowfiend macro. I don't know why it took me so long to make the fade macro... this was the difference maker. I got it the first time I attempted it with my Fade macro.
My Strategy:
1. Place 2 Angelic Feathers before the encounter starts, going up one of the hills (to either of the drakes). This is done so you don't have to burn charges later when you need to kite him around the area.
2. If you do not have 3 shadow orbs, engage Shadron until you do and use his portal to reset the encounter.
3. Place an Angelic Feather on the island or on the lip of the island Sartharion is on. You will use this feather to jump off the island back towards the entrance once the first wave of lava comes.
4. Engage Sartharion, pulling with 2x Mind Spike, then use one of your distance damaging abilities (halo, cascade... I used cascade), and Devouring Plague. Once you get DP up, use your instant-cast Mind Blast and DPS as normal.
5. As mentioned in 3, once the first lava wave is coming, use your first Angelic feather to get off of the island and move back towards the entrance. You don't have to run far, just far enough to not get hit by the wave.
6. DPS and while you are on GCD, back up slowly.
7. When he gets to about 1M (less if you can wait, I waited until Shadron came down which was about 600k-700k), use your shadowfiend + fade macros. Move as close as you can to your closest feather without consuming it and continnue DPSing.
8. The SECOND the shadowfiend died, get on your feather and start kiting around the ledges. If you see you are far enough ahead of them, get a Mind Blast or Mind Flay off. Remember to keep using your feathers as needed.
9. If you are lucky, you'll kill him and get up to 5 achievements at once.

Being frustrated I never got his mount in all the years I've played, I decided to go solo him on my level 90 Brewmaster/Windwalker Monk. I have very decent gear, item level 486 and tank enchants/gems.
I tried DPS'ing him down as Brewmaster with all 3 drakes up, but I couldnt get him below 800k before Shadron joined and turned him immune.
Switched to Windwalker and made it, but barely. You'll need about 50k DPS (single target), with some decent selfheals/shields to stay alive (Monk/DK probably have the best chance).

Basically, if you down Sartharion with all 3 drakes alive, on 10 man normal, you receive:
a) *Player Name* of the Nightfall
b) A 67% chance to snag a black drake
If you kill him with 3 drakes alive, on 25 man normal, you receive:
a) Twilight Vanquisher *Player Name*
b) A 65% chance to snag a Twilight Drake
On my 88 Blood DK (iLVL 396) badly geared for my level, I easily downed Sartharion on 10 man normal, WITHOUT his adds.
As my 88 Blood DK, same gear, with a 85(?) friend, with bad gear (Druid), we downed Sartharion on 10 man with all the adds alive. Druid stepped in for a small healing, but mostly feral. We did wipe 3 times though, since druid wasn't that great, BUT, with a better geared 85, or more experienced player who knew the mechanics, it would have been easier.
If you kill all the trash, leaving only adds alive, then you're facing around 5500 HP or so, with Sartharion and the adds, on 10 man normal.
I don't know why I was downvoted: the information IS accurate.

Just killed him in 25 3d as prot war (472) + arms war (460). Both of us used 'second wind' tal which kept us alive in about 20-40% of our hp almost all of the fight. We killed all three drakes just in the order they joined the encounter. During the fight, arms war entered the portals about 4-6 times (though, as I understand, it is necessary to do only one time, once all 3 drakes are down) to kill the adds there. Once all 3 drakes were dead, the Boss had about 3kk hp. Well, that was the easiest part :)

It is possible to solo Sarth+3 on 10 man. You need approximately 100k dps or you will die once the first drake shows up. I'm not sure what ability it has, but it deals extremely high damage, enough to quickly cause a wipe even at 90. I soloed him today as a level 90 ret pally. The key is just burst.

Years later you can now duo Sarth 25 with 3 drakes up. With the portal mechanics I don't know if you can solo it or not, but my wife and I did it with a Blood DK and Elemental Shaman with no problems.

Very easy to solo the Achievement for the drake as an Arms Warrior. Go in and pop all the cooldowns and just spank. Was at over 50% life as ilvl 483.

3 Drakes Up - Solo Strategy for Windwalker Monks:
You will need:
,
散魔功
and
白虎下凡
.
Burn Sartharion until Tenebron joins, then dump Xuen on Tenebron and roll away to reduce your threat. Then drag Sartharion away and keep dpsing. You should have Sarth just about dead (if you're doing 45k+ dps) when Xuen despawns. When you have Tenebron's aggro again, pop Diffuse Magic and keep dpsing Sarth hard until you can Touch of Death him.
This strategy took me about 3 attempts to iron out, but I managed the solo 10man kill in 478 gear.

Just soloed him this morning on 25-man (with 3 drakes) as a Hunter (ilv497). Here's the nice
video
I put together for it. :3
I averaged 119,790 dps over the course of the fight, which lasted 92 seconds.
Consumables consisted of a flask, 300-stat food, and 4% kings drums.
It took 17 attempts before I managed to down him.

Soloed as feral druid with Ilvl 496.
I used agility flask and food, though I am not sure it was necessary. Cleared trash, left 3 dragons. Fight lasted about 35 seconds. Popped Tiger's Fury to gain energy for killing Shred attack after 30 second cooldown. Ended with about 180k health.
Here is the opening rotation.
Prowl
Roar
Ravage (156k)
Rake
Tiger's Fury
Berserk
Shred
5 point Rip
Then rotation of roar, shred, bite, rake, etc. depending on crits.

I just soloed this guy as a 90 Warlock on 10-man difficulty. I killed all trash (not sure if that's necessary) and mini-bosses, except for Shadron since he can't be solo'd. Then I had my void tank the boss, ignored Shadron when he came and burned down the boss as destruction.
Killed him 2nd attempt with about 35k dps.

Soloed 25-man Sarth +3 on my Destruction Warlock tonight (avg. ilvl 504, 133k dps on the kill). This is somewhat RNG dependent -- you want elementals early, so that Rain of Fire supports Chaos Bolt spam. Keep Rain of Fire up when there are 4+ adds on you, especially hatchlings.
I used a flask, +250 Int food, and a potion before the pull. 10-15 total tries. Teleports aren't needed, just don't stand in void zones and chain cooldowns when Tenebron reaches you.

I managed to do 10m +3d today as a Blood DK in DPS gear. My dps gear is only Ilvl 446 so it was pretty tough. I wiped twice before I checked recount and noticed Tenebron(?sp) was doing 70% ! of all the damage I took, So I saved all my defensive cooldowns until Sartharion was about 50% then I popped them, at 35% I used the execute (reaper something) and crossed my fingers. Barely made it in time. Should be way easier if you have better gear. I pulled about 37k dps.
Also, pop Army of the Dead before hand, bring in a ton of DPS.

I'm either just bad or it's my class (S Priest), but I am getting sarth to about 30% or so and I start getting raped badly by Tenebron's melee. The dmg is too much for me to overcome at that point. I'm flasked, food buffed, using a health potion, and 480ish ilevel.

Okay, important note for
Sarth 25man
with 3 Drakes alive on pull:
1. You can
KILL ALL 3 DRAKES
if they are alive when Sartharion was pulled
. So: pull Sarth with 3 drakes alive -> kill 3 drakes -> kill sarth = MOUNT!
2. You need 2 players, pets cant do. When Shadron (spelling?) makes Sarth immune, you need 1 player to enter the portals and kill whatever is inside - one more player is needed to tank sartharion while the other player is in the portal.
If sartharion is left with just a pet he will DESPAWN thus ending the fight. He respawns a few seconds after, as well as 3 drakes just like before pulling.
Easily "soloable" by a 491 BM hunter with Spirit Bond, glyphs for better pet healing, no cd on pet misdirect and animal bond - but you must have at least 2 players in total.
The other fellow in my party was a dps warrior, he did the portals while i kept my Turtle tank (tenacity) alive.
Keep in mind the bosses are TAUNT IMMUNE, so your teammate must be careful not to pull aggro and die.
Self healing classes (even warrior's second wind talent) make the fight much easier.

Soloed the 10 player version of this fight with three drakes with my 85 blood DK. I have ilevel 417 gear including Jade Forest greens and auction house blues.
I tried doing this fight twice using tanking gear and got Sartharion down to really low HP and died. I then switched to DPS gear and was able to succeed. I did 38K DPS with tanking gear and 42K DPS with DPS gear.
I focused on Sartharion and ignored the drakes. I got Sartharion down in 70 seconds which means only 1 drake flew down. Higher level people should have no problem with this fight.

I don't post to Wowhead often, but had to share my story so others with low-end gear know it's possible to solo Sartharion 3D 10-man.
Level 90 Arms Warrior
(Item Level 458)
equipped with MoP BOE Rare gear
1 - Clear all mobs
2 - Consumed the Charbroiled Tiger Steak for the 250 Strength buff
3 - Made macro consisting of
/castsequence Battle Shout, Berserker Rage, Recklessness, Skull Banner, Avatar, Potion of Mogu Power
. Spammed macro while Charging Sartharion.
4 - Used rotation of Shockwave, Colossus Smash, Mortal Strike, Overpower
(repeat thru fight)
, used Thunderclap & Slam while first 4 melee attacks had cool downs
5 - When Sartharion hit 20% used Rallying Cry and Die By Sword and spammed Execute
Downed Sartharion on the 7th attempt, previous attempts got the drake down to 20% before I died. I believe the key on my last attempt was to not pay attention to Sartharion and focus strictly on my toolbar looking at cool down timers AND stayed stationary throughout the fight. It's straight DPS as fast as possible. Good luck!

Alright I feel like feral druids are neglected in this run. I have seen videos of people blasting him down and found it quite hard to do this. I just wanted the mount though and I know other collectors will appreciate this tip....
Sometimes you just can't solo if you are not at top notch gear. I had a warrior and priest friend help me out for this, but then I figured out something else about this encounter I hadn't noticed spelled out clearly anywhere else...
If you begin 25 man battle with all three drakes up, and kill them over the duration of the fight... The mounts will still drop. It makes the fight monumentally easier.
If you do anything less than 50k dps, you will not be able to drop him on your own, though. Not yet - not as feral. Popping incarnation and nature's vigil, and spam your ravage while building your DoTs (and spamming bite when bleeds are full) gave me close to 40k dps over the duration of the fight and got Sarth down to 50% in about 30 seconds. I needed to mediate my damage later on between the boss and the twilight realm though. I took almost no damage though, the healer was just there to keep the tank alive so they could work to keep the boss occupied while I had to take down the adds. The warrior was 89 and the priest 85.
And at the end the twilight mount dropped! It took only a few minutes of fighting.
If you can or want though, switching to guardian and just becoming a damage sponge also works. Then focus on AoE damage, not just the boss. The drakes will go down slowly but they will and it takes about 3 minutes as well. Maybe five if the dps is a little slower.
Keep in mind the 10 man version is super easy compared to this and very soloable, as feral. Then you DO just blast him down.
Just a reminder, make sure you carefully clear all the adds before the fight. :)
Good luck fellow kitties!

Soloed Sartharion+3D as 536 combat rogue with legendary cloak. Buffs included Drums of Forgotten Kings, Flask of Spring Blossoms, 300 agility food, Deadly Poison, Leeching Poison, and Virmen's Bite. Glyph setup was Expose Armor and Evasion.
Opened with Ambush, Expose Armor and then proceeded with normal DPS rotation. Right before guile hit 30% I refreshed Expose Armor and then popped Virmen's Bite, Adrenaline Rush, Shadow Blades and Lifeblood (I'm an herbalist). That dropped him to about 20%. Once AR and SB were about done the drakes started showing up. I hit Evasion, Preparation, and Killing Spree. Once Killing Spree was over, I DPSed as normal, hit Evasion again when it ran out and finished off the boss. Cloaked and then Vanished to drop the rest of the aggro.
Took 3 attempts. First attempt was a botched rotation. Second attempt he knocked me back into the lava, so on the 3rd attempt I made sure to Distract him to face the lava so if I was knocked back I would still be on land and not swimming to get back to him.
Good luck.

Just soloed 25 man + 3d as a 543 arms war.
Basically popped all my cooldowns immediately and spammed DPS. Ended the fight at low health but was able to get him down just as the first drake started hitting me. The only buffs i had on were self buffs and food buff.
I'd highly recommend a healthstone and/or health potion to make it a little more smooth.

Blood Presence
, which gave me the survivability boost I needed.
Self Buffed with 200 food and Horn of Winter and popped AotD at the start of the fight. Use Soul Siphon to get back some health instead of DS. DPS him down to about 20-25% and then pop CD's (Pillar of Frost, Raise Dead) and when I got lowish on health I popped Empower Rune Weapon, used Obliterate twice to build up some RP then cast a Lichborne/Death Coil Macro to heal up.
Had two sub 1% wipes before I got it. Earned All three twilight (assist, duo, zone) achieves and Less is More in the process.
Good Luck, soloers.

Solod 25 Normal as a Arms Warrior (ilvl 478/391k health)
- Charge in
- Pop all ur CDs (Battle Shout, Berserker Rage, Recklessness, War Banner, Synapse Springs (engi) and Bloodbath) and start DPSing him down.
- When Tenebron enrages use Die By The Sword (possibly in combo with the glyph)
- Use Rallying Cry and Demo Banner to get urself some time.
Sometimes you need a bit of luck with crits, but it should be fine after a bit of practice. And there you go, Twilight Drake and a nice 22 slot bag.

Well,
maybe common knowledge by now ...
Sartharion 25m + 3D can now be easily soloed by hunters.
Ilvl 537, BM, no legendary cloak. Took 1'04".
Used for buffs a Winter Veil Cookie and Crystal of Insanity from Timeless Isle.
Opened with powershot misdirected on pet, popped all CDs. Even forgot to put traps on boss, so could have possibly be done faster. 156k dps, this was on second attempt, first attempt with no buffs and not popping as many CDs did 132k dps and could not keep pet alive from Tenebron attacks.
Hope this helps
Cheers
P.S.: Now the happy owner of the twilight drake, I had always lost the rolls when I was doing this in WotLK.

For 3D Sarth 25 man I just thought I'd mention the following:
萨塔里奥的意志
increases Sarth's health to about 9,573,873. Since you have about 30 seconds before the other drakes start landing, to make a "clean" kill you'll need to average slightly less than 320k dps.
If you want to invite the marching band, and have them just about ready to trod over your backside, here are the numbers for 35, 40, and 45 seconds after pulling
DPS
35 Second Kill Time: ~274k
40 Second Kill Time: ~240k
45 Second Kill Time: ~213k
Since I'm at it already:
3D Sarth 10 man
Health with the buff: 3,137,625
DPS
30 Second Kill Time: ~105k
35 Second Kill Time: ~90k
40 Second Kill Time: ~79k

Frost Death Knight, item level 520 managed to solo 25 man, 3 drakes.
Buffed up with +250 stat food, Flask of Winter's Bite, Drums of Forgotten Kings, Horn of Winter, Frost Presence
Blew all CDs at the start: Army of the Dead, Potion of Mogu Power, Raise Dead, Pillar of Frost.
Wiped a few times around 5-10% but then it all came together and he went down. Pulled just under 200k dps. Empower Rune Weapon was useful with about 30% left when low on runes. The life saver was
Death Pact
(used as late as possible), ended with about 12% health left.

Soloable on an Elemental shaman 532 pvp gear (25 Man).
Make sure you have Primal Elementalist on and use Fire Elemental for the extra dps.
I popped Bloodlust, Fire Elemental, Ascendance and Spirit Walkers Grace ( in that order) then pulled from max range with Flame Shock. Make sure you kill all adds (besides drakes ofc) and kite the boss around the edges, that way the three drakes take longer to start pounding you.
You should only have to kite him around 1/4 way around the instance before he is downed and by then i had around 70k hp left.
Use Healing stream early ( when you take ~100k damage) and save Healing Tide for when you are at around 40%. Also, make sure to use Shamanistic Rage and Thunderstorm if too much adds pile on you.
It took me around 2 tries before i figured out the above.

April 28, 2014 I decided to give it a go on 25 man since I do have the black drake from 10 man, but not the twilight from 25. As a moonkin, I just went in and see what would happen. Used a sun flask and 250 food, I'm ilvl 546 and wear the legendary cloak.
Setting up mushrooms, preparing my rotation and there I go. Oops, not only the 3 drakes came, but also half of the other adds. But hey, the boss was down within 30 seconds, maybe less. Now to face the adds, but no problem at all. Wow, that was fast.
Yeah, in my bag a mount. Reins of the ..... black drake. What! Oh boy, I forgot to put it on 25 man. Lol. Now I understand why it was so easy. Have to wait now on next reset to see 25 man going down. But this time I will clear the adds to make sure. They make me nervous blocking my sight ;-)
Edit... later on the day...
I went in with my shadow priest. Cleared all adds. iLvl somewhat above 500, no legendary cloak. It took me too long to burn the boss down. Tried two times, but it didn't happen on this toon. Could have known, since the packs of adds didn't go down that fast either. When it takes too long for the boss to come down, eventually I went out of health and mana. Could delay my death for a coulple of minutes.
A while later I went in with my beastmaster hunter, also ilvl somewhat above 500 and no legendary cloak. The adds went down fast. The boss took me longer, but I managed to out dps him before it could get ugly for me. And guess what... the mount dropped. So I don't have to bother to come back again.

This is soloable by hunters with a lower item level. My hunter was 510 and I managed to solo as BM. I ended the fight after 1:10s with 118k dps.
I used a tenacity pet with glyphs of mending and misdirection. As ferocity my pet just died to quickly. For talents I'd pick up spirit bond at least.
A short while after Tenebron lands your pet will start getting hit pretty hard. This is where your pets Last Stand move will be of good use to squeeze out a few extra seconds. Just get as far away from Sarth as possible and be ready to revive, then misdirect everything back on him. He will start dying pretty fast for the rest of the fight so you will want to down him not long after.
I would recommend a macro to target Sartharion because you will lose him in the pile of mobs pretty easily and you want to be focusing him down the whole time.

Hello guys,
At the moment there’s an issue with

that can cause the drake mounts not to drop if you kill him too fast. Our development team is hoping to have a fix for this very soon, but meanwhile we recommend to slow down your DPS a little bit in order to avoid issues with the loot.

You can NOT solo Sartharion with all 3 drakes up if you don't have enough damage to dps him down before Shadron joins the fight and makes him immune to all damage. For example I found the 25-man version impossible for my lvl 90 disc priest but 10-man was easy. Usually you would have one party member go through Shadron's Twilight Portal and on the other side kill the Acolyte that keeps Sartharion's shield up. But when you're alone this resets the whole instance so you have to kill Sartharion before Shadron comes to help.
Black Drake mount should be 100% drop chance in 10-man with all 3 smaller drakes up and
Twilight Drake 100% drop chance in 25-man with all 3 drakes up.
