I guess I'll be the first to point out the obvious.
Malygos is the only boss and only hostile creature in the Eye of Eternity 10 and 25man raid in Wrath of the Lich King.
This raid is for level 80 players in almost to full naxxramas gear.
It's the third raid instance (gear wise / difficulty) that players will visit with the first two being Naxxramas and Obsidian Sanctum.
The encounter requires one member of your raid to have completed the quest from
http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=44569
for the 10man version of the encounter, or
http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=44577
for the 25man version of the encounter. They are both drops from Sapphiron, with the heroic key being from 25man Naxx, and the non-heroic key being from 10man Naxx.
The enouncter has three phases which present interesting challenges for the raid.
Being the first raid on your server to kill Malygos in the heroic(25man) version of the raid will be rewarded with the achievement
http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?achievement=1400
, getting a unique title that only your raid will have, and the server gets broadcasted letting everyone know of your achievement!

Strategies
Phase One
During Phase One, Malygos is tanked in the center of the room by one tank.
His attacks hit hard, but the attack speed is slow. He does arcane breaths for X damage.
Throughout the fight, power sparks come out of portals outside of the platform, they slowly move to Malygos, and if they hit him his next arcane breath does a VERY HIGH amount of damage, most likely one-shotting your tank. It's important that they are killed before they hit him. When the power sparks are killed, they drop a small aura on the ground that increases your damage done. The aura stacks, so if they all die in that same location, you can get very high hits off.
Trick: The sparks can be "pulled" to your DPS with Death Grip, so it advisable to have a pre-assigned stack location for your raid, and have a Death Knight pull the sparks to that spot. Once pulled they are rootable to keep them in place while you kill them.
Malygos also uses a cyclone ability that will pull the entire raid into the air and spin them around. He will not attack your tank during this ability, however power sparks will continue to move toward him, make sure you kill them if they are going to get too close to him. Once this ability ends, Malygos will be facing in a random direction and your tank will also be in a random location, so it is vital to move intelligently at this point before he is once again facing your tank, as his breath will one-shot any dps or healers unlucky enough to be in the wrong place.
Note: Once Malygos reaches 50%, he will slowly take off, however he remains targetable until he reaches his max height, so burn him as best you can while he is taking off.
Phase Two
Phase Two begins at 50%.
Malygos himself is not targetable during this phase, it will end when the adds he spawns are all killed. However, he does continue to play a part in the encounter.
During this phase he drops anti-magic zones onto the ground the raid MUST stand inside of, it reduces magical damage taken by 50%. They shrink over time, so it's important that your raid moves to each new one he drops.
Throughout the phase, he will deep breath doing ~4k damage per second, unless you are standing inside of the anti-magic zone.
The way the fight works during this phase is there are NPCs riding around on disks in the room. There are two types of mobs, Lords and Scions. The Lords will move down onto the group, and need to be tanked (They will one-shot a non-tank). After they die, they drop a disk that a raid member can mount onto, which allows them to fly, to attack the Scions that do not come down to the ground. It is recommended to let melee take the first disks, then ranged. As those mobs die, they also drop disks, which allows the rest of your dps to get onto them. The Scions will continually cast Arcane Blast on random targets on the floor, which is mitigated by the anti-magic zones. While mounted on a disk, you will not take damage.
After all of the NPCs riding on the disks die, the players on the disks need to dismount as Phase 3 is about to begin.
Note: After all the Scions are dead, you will get a short burn period on Malygos before he breaks the floor. Use any DPS increase cooldowns that are available at this time, as you will not be able to use them once you mount your dragon. If executed well you can take an extra 5%-10% off his HP before you enter phase 3.
Phase Three
Phase Three begins when all of the Scions die (the Lords should be killed first, so they must be killed as well). Malygos destroys the floor of the room, and the raid falls onto dragons.
The dragons use combo points and energy sort of like a rogue. The combo points are used for special finishing moves.
Warning : You are now entering an unclear phase's description, where things may be wrong, and not the correct strategy.
During this phase Malygos does - In Melee Range... Heavy Melee Attacks and Cleaves RangedA high damage ranged ability (The focusing mentioned below)
The dragons have 6 abilities:
Flame Spike
Damaging fire attack causing 943-1057 fire damage and awarding 1 combo point at the cost of 10 energy.
Engulf in Flames
Finishing move which launches a blast of flame igniting target for 1500 fire damage every 3 seconds. The effect can stack and will last longer per combo point up to 22 seconds. Costs 50 energy.
Revivify
A HoT that lasts for 10 seconds healing 500 per second and awarding 1 combo point at the cost of 10 energy.
Life Burst
Huge healing finishing move which increases the casters healing done by 50% and lasts longer per combo point. Max combo points award a 15k heal over 25 seconds. Costs 50 energy.
Name N/A
Increases your drake's flight speed by 500%.
Flame Shield
Finishing move to protect your drake. Shield surrounds you reducing all damage taken by 80% and lasting up to 6 seconds for max combo points. Costs 25 energy with a 30 second cooldown.
Though the strategy for this phase is still unclear, it is believed that each player should target themselves and stack up 5 revivifys granting 5 total combo points on themselves, and then they should use Life Burst. eEfore Revivify fades, the player should recast it on themselves, same deal with life burst, but switching targets clears the combo points, so you will need to cast 5 more heals on yourself then life burst before it fades.
In between keeping your Hots up you should be Flame Spike spamming malygos, after 5 combo points apply Engulf in Flames, then spam it more times.
Whenever he sets his "focus" to you, it's important that you have 5 combo points on him, and use your shield (hotkey 6). It is believed you can also use the sprint (hotkey 5) and outrange him before he begins channeling.
Note: Remember to save 25 energy at all times to use your shield. If you are at 0 energy and targeted, you may be killed before you regen enough to use your shield. This is important as threat seems strange for this portion of the encounter and you may be targeted at any time.
The End
Then you just burn him until the end of the fight, where Alexstrasza enters and finishes the battle. The loot for the fight comes from Alexstrasza's Gift, the fight rewards two badges.
The exit portal respawns, and you can fly over to it. But the floor of the instance does not respawn.

First of all Malygos has a 10min enrage-timer over all phases, so it's important beeing fast at p1 and p2, so you have more time in p3
Here is how we get the magic seeker
<unleash> EU-Gorgonnash
Phase 1
One Tank on Malygos, should be well geared. Breath does huge damage (~20k +).
Sparks
- Range DD should nuke the sparks until 10% or so, let them fly to a good position an kill them, the +50% DPS zone is needed, DK is great in pulling the sparks to melee's
Tornado
- Priest should spam coh, Druids AE Hots, you can cast instants an sometimes do melee hits. NOTE: after a Tornado Malygos will cast his Breath, wich will kill everyone in front of him (except MT) our MTs runs always after it into the south, the raid in all other directions
Phase 1 goes to 50% NOTE: if p1 ends keep nuking on Malygos!
Phase 2
Adds
- We have 3 Tanks for the melee adds, melees focus them, rogues get on the platforms first and stunning the caster, so you protect your raidmember from beeing focused. Caster just nuke the casters ;) NOTE: as Prot-Warri imp Spellreflect saves lifes
Zones
- keep moving from zone to zone thats all
Phase 2 ends when all adds death NOTE: keep nuking Malygos at end of p2!
Phase 3
Never go into melee range to Malygos and get out of the coulds asap!
We build 2 camps
, one at the east an one in the south, we always fly left to avoid clouds.
We used 5 Healers
, that means, just hottig around an spamming heal ultimate, so your mates will only die on triple focus from Malygos without the absorbshield!
The other dragons just dps'n Malygos
the key is stacking the dot asap, a 5cp dot only have an increased duration, not more dmg! So 2cp -> finish, 1cp -> finish, 2cp->finish (or make a 2/3/2 cycle) your dot should stack up to 10+
Very easy fight with this tactic, hf looting and sry 4 my bad english ;)

According to the tome Legacy of the Aspects, written by a human seeking knowledge amongst the night elves, Malygos does not have the form of a "typical dragon." The human author of the book writes that Malygos can change his form "at will," which is, of course, not a unique ability among the dragonflights. Particularly interesting are the words that follow. The human author writes, "Rarely seen after his retreat to the far north, he is almost always in the form of an insect-like creature, but while in dragon form he, and his flight, are varying blues in color." If the account is true, it strongly suggests Malygos lives -- or once lived -- among the Nerubian race of Northrend.
Malygos has an extraordinary command over magic, and although he is not as powerful physically, his spellcasting more than counters that disadvantage. Malygos lives in a cave within Northrend, and his lair contains many arcane magical artifacts. Malygos and his flight search for any magical source and artifacts and protect them so that mortal races may not endanger the world with their reckless use. He was closest to his brother Neltharion, the Earth Warder, prior to the War of the Ancients.
With his flight nearly annihilated, Malygos began to lose his mind. He felt deep guilt for his role in convincing the other Aspects to infuse their powers into the Demon Soul. He traveled to his lair in Northrend, where he hid for millennia. Feelings of remorse paralyzed him. During the ten thousand years following The War of the Ancients, he was rarely seen by the other Aspects. His body was a caricature of his former self. A thin body surrounded by frozen ice, almost skeletal.
Malygos is the oldest of the five Aspects, possibly the oldest dragon still living.

Phase 1 and 2 are pretty much tank and spank ... Phase 3 is a lil bit more of a learning curve. I created these macros for my guildies, and we downed him in 2 attempts once they started using them
Phase 3 Dragon Macros:
--- DPS ---
/tar mal
/castsequence reset=target Flame Spike, Flame Spike, Engulf in Flames
--- Healing ---
/tar pet
/castsequence Revivify, Revivify, Life Burst

A few notes to the fellow rogues out there:
If you're combat specced with Killing Spree, save Killing Spree until you're in the vortex! If you cast Killing Spree in vortex you will instantly jump on the boss, and after the attacks are made you will land on the floor, and can dps him / run away from the tank before the others.
Also, in phase 2, do NOT use Killing Spree when you're on a Hover Disc, this will remove it, and you'll have to get a new one.

You have got to be kidding me. Any1 mind explaining to me how you kill an Aspect?
Seriously, an Aspect is the representative of all that it standas for. So killing him, destroys all magic in Azeroth = No Mages, No Fire-Locks, no dalaran, no nothing. So, when you are killing him, you are killing mages...
On second thought... KILL THE B*STARD! :p

Here is what my guild did for phase 3:
We had one person put a mark above their head (preferably something that sticks out like blue square) and that individual flew behind Malygos. Everyone else then clumps up on that person. Assign four dedicated healers, and one confident person who can call out when the lightning charge hits the group (if they angle their camera in the right way you can call it out before it hits the group.) The rest of the raid is on DPS. (For 10 man version have 2 healers instead of 4.)
Healers: Spam Revivify on yourself until you have 5 charges then hit Life Burst. Never stop this rotation. If all your healers stay alive throughout the fight you can heal through surges and don't even need to use Flame Shield (but it never hurts to use it anyways).
DPS: Use 3-4 Flame Spikes and then 1 Engulf in Flames (if you are confident you will never let your stack fall if you just use 1-2 Flame Spikes than go ahead and do that. But for simplicity sakes you should have enough time to be getting four Flame Spikes off.)
When Malygos shoots the electrical charge (that does the AoE damage) have someone call out to move. We move left (counterclockwise around Malygos). So everytime we see the charge animation coming at us we call out Left.
It is important to always to clump up on the marked target after you move. Failing to do will mean some people won't be getting hit by Life Burst.

There is currently a bug with this fight that occurs during the transition from phase 2 to phase 3 and into phase 3. If a player does not deselect and retarget malygos once during this period they will be unable to use the flame shield drake ability that drastically reduces the damage from surge.
This bug is easily avoidable, just deselect malygos, then reselect him and you're done, it only needs to be done once.
***NOTE***
This bug has been resolved. Malygos is no longer targetable during the transition from phase 2 to phase 3, and does not become targetable until shortly after he has finished positioning himself in phase 3.

Not straight-on post to the topic, but giving my opinions.
As now Malygos slain, I can do nothing else but wait with impatience; when will Neltharion, also known as Deathwing, arrive? Many of the greatest lore characters in Warcraft has already revealed theirselves in-game. As the novel the novel Night of the Dragon revealed, Neltharion is resting below Grim Batol. Us, the one's who are in love with Warcraft lore, amongside hungry raiders, hopefully, are waiting for his arrival. With his children, Onyxia and Nefarian slain, he musn't be the most friendliest person, dragon, who will hopefully give more challenge than Malygos. Gogo Dragonflights!

Rogues
: You can break out of his
Vortex
ability by using
Killing Spree
or
Shadowstep
as soon as you get thrown into the air, making it so you don't take any damage from it.
Warlocks
: Set down a
Demonic Circle
near the center before the fight starts and teleport to it when the boss throws you up into
Vortex
, this will also prevent you from taking damage as well.
Patch 3.1: Rogues and Warlocks can no longer break out of Vortex with any of their abilities. :(

Tarctics oh p3:
1-1-2-3-1-1-2-3-1-1-2-3-1-1-2-3....... nonstop (if u cant use 2 cuz its grey, wait for rage and its appears)
when u see yellow letters (Malygos targets you): 1-1-4 or just 1-4 if its lack of rage. Anyway 1-4 is enogh when its used in right time when boss's beam HITS you (non when he start cast it). He cast 3 sec spell, then channel you for 4 sec. You must use 4 when he channels. You can use 4 after 2 sec of his channeling with just one combo point and survive withought troubles.
You dont need help each other, just avoid big spheres.

I'm not sure if it's only me it happens to, but healing this fight on a priest with Spirit of Redemption causes me problems. Every time I die in phase 3, and I turn into the spirit, I die suspended in the air near the portal once it's worn off. I cannot release my spirit, and when I get rezed, I cannot move at all and need to restart my client. It's absolutely ridiculous and annoying. Anyone else get that problem?

Here's a few tips if you're trying to beat the enrage timer on this boss.
1. If you're running three tanks trying running two tanks instead. The 25-man version requires you to have four tanked ads meaning that at some point one tank would have to tank at least two ads. The extra DPS gained means bursting through this encounter easier without meeting the gear requirements. My guild's first kill almost everyone but me was terribly undergeared, we used one tank (myself) I rounded up all the ads and had people assist off me and watch threat on other ads.
2. Pre-assign a discs order for P2. You want to load up as many ranged as possible on this fight but make sure to bring your highest DPS regardless. In 25-man we have all casters try and DPS the Scions while melee kill the Lords. Melee go up one at a time in the set order... its a big list. If you have to choose between a prot warrior going up and a caster you should probably choose the prot warrior the extra sunders added to the scions will help hunters on the groud and melee in the sky.
3. In phase three have everyone stack on one set location. I know a lot of strats suggest splitting up groups but if you feel you have 25 competent players they just move right to avoid the AOE dmg, shield themselves from his instagib, and spam their healing/dps buttons. We use three healers total for this phase freeing up 4 more people to DPS. If everyone is stacked properly lifeburst heals everyone and there's never a need for any excessive amount of healers.
If after this you still can't beat the enrage timer get your lowest dpsers out doing heroics OR look at your debuffs/buffs list and make sure you have them all.

ok peeps this is my secret how to heal in malygos as holy paladin! =)
note: you need
Glyph of Holy Light
First Phase
Heal normal until you got
Vortex
for some duration. At this time chuck your
Beacon of Light
on the tank then
Holy Shock
yourself! If you do it quick enough you could chuck 2x
Holy Shock
at that air phase. While wait for your
Holy Shock
cooldown which is 6 seconds, target Malygos and chuck
Judgement of Light
. After
Vortex
finish all of your raid member will be fall in the same spot or aka stack up. At this time as soon as possible use Holy Light on yourself (is compulsory to have
Glyph of Holy Light
). Depending on your haste, how many holy light you can use as soon possible before people spread out. Myself can throw 2 Holy Light.
Second Phase
At this phase I recommended you to chuck yourself
Sacred Shield
before change to other orb/bubble/shield half egg or wateva you call it =P, the rest is the same you always do normally as healer. Which is you need to run to other orb/bubble/half egg thingy when it spawn a new one.
Third Phase
This phase basically focus on using your drake really well. You could do the Wyrmrest Dailies in Coldara which helps a lot on the fight. Usually raid stack up together when this phase come out so when they all on drake, they will be all stack up and you can follow them if you don't know what to do.
I'll share more tips and guide if I could find more =] have a nice day and safe trip for your Malygos fight

Tips for 10man Malygos
This boss proved a lot more difficult than I believed due to the usual "he's cakewalk" comments...
My guild wiped for 3 days before finally downing him on the 3rd.
This was on 10man. I am told 25man is easier.
Here's a few suggestions for anyone who might be stuck.
Phase 1:
-Hits the MT for 11-9k dmg per swing. Melee swing is slow.
-Arcane Breath brings up a huge damage spike and is the potential tank killer. Let your healers be aware.
-The "gear requirement" in this fight is NOT a joke. Even with combined spark buffs, we downed him 5 secs after enrage.
Our raid setup was: 1 tank (me, 30.6k hp unbuffed prot warrior, all 80 epics except for trinkets), 2 healers (CoH priest and resto druid, both over 2k spellpower and huge mp5), and 7 dps (all tried and tested in other raids, well over 3k constant dps).
Have the entire raid stack on the very middle of the area, while the tank brings Malygos to the edge of the inner ring, right where the outer ring starts.
The tank needs to be completely aware of his surroundings to see where sparks come from. When a spark spawns, he needs to kite Malygos around the edge of the inner ring (just follow the line, it's simple) to position him so that the raid is between him and the spark. Assign a ranged dps to bring the spark to 20%-50% and burst it down when it's on top of the raid.
2 Sparks will come between each Vortex. One right after and one while you fight.
While the raid is in the Vortex, locate any incoming sparks, and have the tank position Malygos immediatly after everyone lands. If done correctly, the raid just has to run to the center after each votex.
-----------------------------------------
On phase 2:
The tank takes both Nexus Lords. ALL dps nuke these down first. Don't split the dps, as you need to take the Lords out of the fight asap to reduce the raid's damage intake. The only exceptions are the hunters, who should only attack the Scions on the disks if they can't attack the Nexus Lord due to minimum range.
If you're a prot warrior, Improved Spell Reflect will save your raid member's life when running from one anti-magic zone to the next, as you will reflect the Scion's spells. Also useful to help out the healers. Use it on EVERY cooldown if possible, time it so you have it available when people run from bubble to bubble.
-----------------------------------------
On phase 3:
All has been pretty much said. Just keep an eye out for the lightning clouds (you'll see Malygos shoot a spark at the grp), stay grouped up, and keep the DoT up.
Phase 1 is the most difficult to get through, as you have to do itas fast as possible and keep *everyone* alive.
Hope this helped

A quick note to Prot Warriors out there, but you may want to watch out for your spell reflect and party reflect skills on this fight in phase 2. It can be really handy, but it could prove dangerous too:
On one of our attempts, our MT for the group had party reflect up to protect against the Scions' Arcane Barrage attacks. Unfortunately, I noticed that my SCT popped up a "Reflect" message, and... no new bubble landed for us. We had to resort to huddling the whole raid inside a space the size of a shoebox until we got another one.
My assumption is that the protection bubble that Malygos fired came close enough that if it landed, it would've triggered the knockback effect that they have when they expand, and that caused the bubble spell to be reflected. It's not a horrible thing as long as you have some kind of bubble to stay in, but if the already existing ones are getting pretty small you could end up in real trouble by having a reflect up at a bad moment.

This might be a little off-topic but i have to add that the animation of the ground splitting was a cool idea on blizzards part, same with the flying discs that the DPS use in the air.
When you get the fight down, it's extremely fun.

killed him yesterday, from a resto druid pov (10-man)
phase 1 healing is pretty straightforward:
start putting lifeblooms on raid when he starts the animation for cyclones, u can use instants even during it so its really easy, wildgrowth was hitting only 2 ppl while in air, use it after the raid lands, tank healing is easy too, just make sure he is topped before malygos does its breath
phase 2 is a bit frustating:
the problem with phase 2 is the random targeting of the scion of eternity ability, when the raid is changing spot and is vulnerable, if someone is unlucky and get hit 2 times in a very short time he is likely to kiss the floor, it is imperative that u react very fast and keep everyone topped off
innervate before it starts, u want full mana and u dont need it for phase 3
make use of Nourish ! i am a big fan of glyphed Regrowth but i learned that during this phase the shorter cast time of Nourish helps a lot
during power surges wild growth works a blast, when 3.0.8 lands u should preemptively cast lifeblooms as it will have a 6s cooldown, also Tranquillity will negate power surge, keep it for when u want some relief
phase 3 as others have already said Revivify yourself to 5 and use Life Burst, its easy enough and effective
hope it helps

Hunters might want to sit out for this fight. I've had nothing but trouble in the repeated attempts at this fight. During repeated clears of Naxx10 and other raid content in LK, I've almost always been 1st or 2nd dps, but Malygos really requires close quarters dps, which a hunter isn't capable of providing. Coupled with the fact that hunter pets have a bad habit of glitching after the first vortex, you become almost useless as far as DPS is concerned. Keeping yourself in range for sparks is equally as hard because of its rather large hit box.
Basically, if you're a hunter, you better hope the rest of your raid can make up for your severely stunted dps.
Hopefully blizz realizes that pets glitch and the spark radius is crap and hunters get a bit of a help out here sometime.

Think I was quite thorough with the comments above, and couldn't see anything on this. Has anyone encountered difficulties on using your fire shield? On two separate encounters I remember that it did not activate despite having at least 2-3 combo points and Malygos targeted. At first I thought I had too little energy, but the 2nd time I made sure I had enough. Has anyone else come across this?

First to people who have trouble with the fire shield:
If you target Malygos during the transition from Phase 2 to Phase 3 you must untarget him once you get on your drake or Fire Shield will not cast. Not sure if that's being fixed in the next patch or not, but it's an easy enough thing to get by.
Second to the locks doing this raid:
You can use your Teleport, rogues can use Killing Spree and Shadowstep *I think those are there two,* to get out of the vortex and avoid taking damage.
Also, during the transition from Phase 2 to 3 make sure to cast Curse of the Elements on Malygos. It's the only thing that will last the entire fight and adds 10%, 13% if specced, more damage for everyone. Once you get those 15 stacks up and you're doing 28k ticks you'll be glad it's up. :-)
Edit: One last thing for casters. If all of the Melee have a disk and there's still extra disks left over in Phase 2, feel free to get on one. You can cast while moving around and avoid the breath. :-)

I hate giving second hand information, but apparently the encounter has been changed to prevent multiple sparks, possibly even increasing the range at which the sparks are swallowed. The change has also lead to an increase in the timer in the associated achievement, so that it's more doable.
I'm writing this on patch day (eu), so feel free to down-rate my post and confirm whether this is accurate or not.

As of 3.0.8, you can no longer place
Curse of Elements
on Malygos at the beginning of Phase 3 (when the platform breaks and knocks you upward a bit). So for anyone who used to do this... well, you can't anymore. Malygos is not targettable in Phase 3 until after the red drakes catch you and he's done with his Yell emote.

FOR ALL YOU OLD SCHOOL PLAYERS AND LORE LOVERS OUT THERE.
(old school being able to remeber when stratholme was a 10 man instance or when arcane explotion used to have a casting time!)
It may just be me or does anyone agree with me that Malygos is totaly lacking originailty and the old school raiding spirit? I meen comon guys, think back to Blackwing Lair and AQ 40 ect. How does Malygos compare to bosses Pre- TBC? Would you not rather be dodging C'thuns Eye beam lazas than doing a Boss Which has the same moves as a Daily qest mob? And dont you miss the time when you had to actualy get off your ass and do something to get some epixs. not just /2 LFG Naxx 10 man! or nolifing all day in heroics saving up badges to trade in. Now its allways gear before skills, cos half the bosses post TBC dont require any require any of the skill that was a nescesaty back in the days of 40 man raids.GIEF MOLTEN CORE IN FULL 52 BLUES AGAIN PLZ!
AND. for all you lore lovers out there (like me) , did'nt you share the dissapointment, knowing that malygos, Aspect of magic and a highly decorated character in the lore, could only spin the raid around, summon mages to do his work, and shoot a few beams wich are absorbed by a dragon wich he would have killed in an instant in the books and lore? or how simple it is to just /LFG and kill Malygos. Surly, blizzard, you can think of a more exciting, memorable fight for one of the 5 dragon aspects!
I meen , look at kalecgos in the sunwell for instance. Malygos is his Ruler and yet, kalecgos has a far more complicated stratagy, and I for one loved fighting him and killing that bastard of a deamon in him!
So , is there anyone else out there who misses the pre TBC days ? :<
Or have we all sunk into Welfare loot, PuG raids and ...Dailies.
P.S and PLEASE dont downrate this comment if you have never had the joy of being in a 40 man raid or if you dont give a #$%^ about warcraft lore. let others have theyr say!

Tip for Death Knights here
Always pop Anti-magic shell when you're sucked up in Vortex. Not only will this negate a MASSIVE chunk of damage for your healers it will supply you with mass amounts of Runic Power. Not sure on the exact numbers, but I think I was able to throw out a Death Coil every tick of Vortex which, in a DPS race boss, is pretty good.
So I guesss this message is basically saying "Know your class abilities!" :)

Just a quick note for people having issues post 3.0.8: If your raid keeps dying for no aparent reason there is a bug with pets getting the debuff and hitting the raid. Try dismissing all pets, worked tonight for my guild after a few unexplained wipes.

The guild my friend is in has a strange strategy for Phase 1. I've tried to convince him that it is purely luck that it works, but I'd like confirmation on that.
They say, standing in a spark will prevent you from getting hit by his Arcane Breath.
I'm 100% sure that i've taken damage from it while on the spark, but he says that he never has. This isn't something I'd like to actually test. So hopefully, somebody could clear this up for me.
Thanks.

Pets no longer seem to be bugged during vortex - I've noticed that mine despawns when we're all up in the air, and then comes back out right as I land. No issues with him sticking anymore, which is great.
And CoH/WG not being castable in the Vortex has been confirmed as a bug.
We identified a bug preventing Circle of Healing and Wild Growth from being able to find targets in Vortex. It was not our intent that these heals be prevented during Vortex (beyond the nerf we already made to prevent them from being spammed).
We should be able to fix this in the next couple of days.

Has anyone else noticed that you're able in some cases to zone into the fight during phase 3? I've been able to reproduce it sometimes and think that you either have to release during phase 3 or re-enter as a ghost during phase 3 (releasing and re-entering during phase 2 gives you back your body and makes you unable to zone in until malygos is killed or despawns). I got a drake right as he despawned earlier tonight and managed to fight him in phase 1 on it, doing a whopping 13.5k dps with double-stacked ticks of 20+ stacks of the dot hitting for around 100k.

There are many confuses about this spell. While fighting with
Malygos
best way to deal with healing is assign two players on normal and four or five for heroic for AoE heals only. Easiest way to heal is keeping 5 stacks of Revivify on themselfs, stack 5 combo points (by spamming Revivify on self) and then cast Life Burst.
About Life Burst:
It doesn't heal over time
, it is just a one big AoE heal.
The more combo points you stack the bigger heal is.
The more combo points you stack the 50% healing buff last longer.
50% healing buff work for both -
Life Burst
and
Revivify
It's good, but not essentially if dps dragons try to hold 1-2 (or more) stacks of
Revivify
. And most major issue is to all drakes stay close to themselfs. They should stay in one big group, and when Malygos cast AoE spell they should all move a bit. Good way to have proper position is to stick to clock hours (12 - 9 - 6 - 3 etc).

Malygos is voiced by
Cam Clarke
, whom you may have noticed voices a few other characters in World of Warcraft as well... Namely the Last Guardian
Medivh
, and the Player Blood Elf Male voice.
Two noteworthy voice overs that this VA has done outside WoW would be Liquid Snake for the Metal Gear Solid Series... and also Prince Adam/He-man, which this game also makes a reference to with the AB Battlemaster
Adam Eternum

Malygos is a strange fellow. Seeks to destroy all mortal life for fear they will use magic in a bad way, yet he allows his followers (the scions in phase 2, some in the Azure Dragonshrine) to use magic.
Unless they are another breed of elf, which hasn't lost it's immortality, he is going against everything he was fighting for. Maybe, he has so much power, he can give them immortality and they're just high/blood elves.
Wonder who will replace him as the ruler of the Blue Dragonflight, can't be many Blue Dragons left, we seem to kill alot of them.

Until patch 3.1 goes live
http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=53601#comments:id=673080
will still be extremely useful on the Malygos fight. Right before vortex I make sure to have Sacred Shield on everyone in the raid (10m version). It will proc 2x during the vortex for approx. a 4-5k dmg absorption to everyone. Combined with 2-4 heals available (2 holy shocks, 2 proc'd instant flash of lights) and using your beacon of light intelligently, a holy paladin is a great healer for malygos. I see many ppl claim that they are useless for that fight, well those ppl have no knowledge of the class. Flash of light can sometimes be forced to cast during the vortex if you can proc a boost of haste from trinkets such as
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40685
.
When 3.1 hits pally's will become very boring healers. Only being able to cast this on the tank will take away most of our strategy when raid healing other than beacon swapping and stacking everyone up for
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=41106
. IMO in 3.1 they should reduce the mana cost of
http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=53563
. This will bring the strategy back to healing as a paladin.

This wiped us today, and I wonder. Do anyone know what triggers this, or why it happens?
Oh and you can't target him so tanking him threw this bug, or whatever you want to call it, is impossible.

Another relevant Lore character Blizzard kills, and if that wasn't enough, Malygos gets killed by Alexstraza and by 10 random adventurers... Same happened with Illidan Stormrage. If you check his lore, he battled Arthas, even if he was defeated, he still did, he became a demon, he was imprisioned for 10 thousand years, he battled an army of the Scourge along with Tyrande and his brother, and died when 25 guys decided going in his fortress (Black Temple) and kill him... I am just saying my opinion, I know this is going to be downrated though....

I really don't know why everyone says hunters are useless for Maly. i almost always pull 3.5k DPS at the least. Also, pet doesn't bug phase 1 but it DOES bug phase 2, which isn't a big deal as your targets are in midair. I've Pugged this 5 times to date. Problem with phase 3 is that many people aren't able to focus as much as you would expect, and end up sitting in sparks and dying. Granted this doesn't apply to guilds that are doing ToC 10man and so forth, but again not many guilds raiding that content go back and kill Maly. Still, if you can get the people for it, it can and should be an easy fight. Good luck to everyone going after this guy, it is very rewarding to see him go down!

Trick: The sparks can be "pulled" to your DPS with Death Grip, so it advisable to have a pre-assigned stack location for your raid, and have a Death Knight pull the sparks to that spot. Once pulled they are rootable to keep them in place while you kill them.
From what I have heard, the sparks can no longer be deathgripped.

Don't know why, but I've never seen any helpful macros for phase 3 of Malygos encounter. Maybe I have some weird interface/keybind setup, but casting shield on your own drake while moving can be a real pain, so providing that you're using some action bar addon you can setup an easy macro "/cast Flame Shield". That way you will never have to change target from Malygos. With the simple 1-1-2-3 rotation and that macro I went from dying upon second focus to top damage done every or almost every time I did the encounter so far.

Even with people pulling under 3k DPS (and a couple people pulling well above that), the first two stages are cake in a 10-man raid. The only real worries are staying behind Malygos, killing the orbs and using their buffs for ranged DPSers (a DK helps a ton; grip+chains), and staying in the bubbles unless you're riding a disc.
The third stage, on the other hand, is more difficult. All of the healers should spam 333334. All of the DPS should spam 112 or 1112. However, classes must watch their energy conservation to make sure they have enough energy to pull off a shield, especially in 10m where there are fewer targets. All drakes must remain stacked and, when someone is targeted, the group should move left of that person until they are out of range of the AoE. The person who is targeted (DBM covers telling you who it is) should immediately build up 2 combo points and cast the shield. For 10m, we found it best to have a DPSer heal whilst on the drake.
Basically, phase 3 is passable by moving left (or right, left is what we chose) when someone is zapped, and spamming the above cycles. We managed to down him with about 7 out of 10 people still alive in the end.

I'd like to try and clarify this.
As the poster above stated correctly, each dragon was imbued by powers of a certain titan, They were later known as: Malygos the Spell-Weaver, Alexstrasza the Life-Binder, Ysera the Dreamer, Neltharion the Earth Warder and Nozdormu the Timeless One.
These 5 dragon aspects of each flight (blue, red, green, black and bronze, respectively with the order of the aspects named above) were the mightiest of their kind. Dragons are very 'close' so to say, they call each other brother and sister because they are equal to each other. Another term dragons might use is 'my brood'. This implies more than just a bond between two dragons, they actually have to be brother and/or sister as we use it, of the same clutch. (this is also shown in the War of the Ancients Trilogy)
If you want to know how Malygos became a prime evil, instead of one of the guardians of the world, read on.
**SPOILER IF YOU READ ON**
(War of the Ancients Trilogy)
.
.
.
.
In the World of Warcraft - War of the Ancients book series, you learn how Malygos became insane. In short, Neltharion got corrupted by a great evil (supposedly the Old Gods) he created 'the dragon soul' which later became known as the demon soul. The purpose of this Dragon Soul was to decimate the demonic army razing over Azeroth (This was at the time of the first invasion of the burning legion). Every dragon contributed his or her part into the Dragon Soul. However, the dragons didn't expect so see one of their mightiest turn on them, and Neltharion used the Dragon Soul to attack the races of Azeroth, trying to defend their home. Then he attacked the dragons with it. When he got distracted by an attack of a lonely dragon the blue dragon flight broke loose of his bounds and tried to contain Neltharion (later known as Deathwing (He'll be the new Cataclysm boss)) Neltharion, using the Demon Soul, decimated the Blue flight, and threw Malygos far over the horizon. Malygos became insane after seeing his flight decimated, it would take decennia to restore the blue dragon flight to it's former glory.
Edit: poster below (Mealstrom) might also spoil War of the Ancients lore in his post

In my opinion it was stupid that they killed off Malygos, should have just had him brought back to reality and redeemed. Next expansion will see the return of Deathwing, and Malygos was Deathwing's closest friend before the pair of them went mad, would have been highly relevant to have Malygos participate in the battle against Deathwing.

Anyone have a clue as to if the drakes have a cap on the item level scaling? I'm wondering if Cata gear makes this even easier than it was.
评论来自
citrique
There doesn't appear to be a discernable cap on item level scaling, my drake had about 320,000 HP today in all-359 + some 372 items.
For what it's worth, Malygos 10-man will be soloable by a DK within a tier or two of gear. I was able to solo him all the way to phase 3, but hit enrage just as phase 3 started. With some better gear and a bit more optimal play with sparks it should be possible to get into phase 3 with about 2 minutes left, enough to kill him.
The fight is -extremely- difficult to solo to that point though. You must get every single spark in order to do enough DPS to get out of phase 1 in a timely manner. A DK is the only class that can adequately do this. The incoming arcane damage in phase 1 can be heavily mitigated through prismatic elixir, tol barad trinket and anti-magic shell.
Phase 2 is the most difficult part. The Nexus Lords don't hit terribly hard and are easily downed, however the Scion adds will kill you very quickly once you're on a disc and outside the protective shields. I was able to kill all 4 adds only by using every single available defensive cooldown I had and it took several attempts, the incoming damage is upwards of 30-40K/second without cooldowns as you get out from under the shield and the first two adds must be burned down quickly before you run out of cooldowns and are unable to outheal the incoming damage. You also cannot summon/sacrifice a ghoul while on a disc as pet summons do not work.
In phase 3 a self-sustain rotation (1 1 2 3) should probably be sufficient to survive all incoming damage with high enough ilevel from gear, and will build up 20 stacks reliably. Assuming you can make it into phase 3 with roughly 2.5-3 minutes remaining you should be able to down him solo.

Amusing tidbit I discovered in soloing attempts:
If you hit berserk in phase 2, the scion adds don't appear to berserk correctly. They gain the 900% damage buff, but it doesn't actually seem to work, they still hit for the same amount.
So just for fun, I left one add alive and sat through the entire berserk buff till it fell off, bandaging/rune tap healing, and then did phase 3 normally, though I died at about 20% after hitting the wrong key by mistake and dropping my stack.
While I can hardly recommend anyone use this method to bypass the enrage timer, it does technically work.

I had considered this as well. Not only that, but look at who appears to be spearheading all of the attacks?
Malygos's "fall" seemed rather contrived. He was an ancient hero and I feel as though we didn't do him much justice in slaying him. If anything, he seemed rather convinced that he was doing Azeroth good, and we gave him little time to explain. His choppy lore can be tossed up with Illidan as "righteous slaughter" without so much merit, honestly. "Madness" was just pretty much tossed in with both characters.
Alexstrasza was the key figure in attacking Malygos, and now the same with Deathwing. I mean, of course, Deathwing has had previous attacks on the dragonflight and his 'cataclysm' debut certainly isn't painting a very innocent picture. Additionally, even back in the BWL days the black dragonflight was all-around pretty gruesome.
But it's been a suspicion of mine now, for a long time, that Alexstrasza is a key figure in killing the other dragons. Think about it - she spearheaded the slaying of Malygos, and now she is opportunistically spearheading the assault against Deathwing. What happens next expansion?
The Emerald Dream is a likely next target. What can we do there? The most obvious choice is to rid it of 'corruption.' I'm noticing a trend - maybe Deathwing is actually evil - but Malygos seems to have just "gone mad," while the emerald dream is just suffering from "corruption," and the infinite dragonflight are led by no apparent leader other than the suspected Nozdormu.
Could it be, perhaps, that Alexstrasza is pulling all the strings, here? Maybe she is, in fact, out to kill all of the other dragons, and manipulating the "heroes" into doing her bidding for her? Deathwing was dormant for a long time after his lack unsuccessful attempt on Alexstrasza's life, so maybe she just couldn't get to him sooner. Now that she can, she'll take her opportunity.
What if she is the one organizing the corruption in the emerald dream, and will later tell players to slay Ysera under some bull!@#$ notion that Ysera is now 'corrupted' as well?
And, finally, what if she is possibly manipulating the infinite dragonflight (Or, perhaps, influencing Nozdormu to lead it), only to later point the finger at Nozdormu and say HE was the one pulling the strings, telling us to slay him?
And, after that - once we've slain 4/5 of the dragon aspects in over the next 2 expansions (leaving us at lv95) - she announces that her plans are complete, that she actually planned for us to kill the other 4 dragonflight aspects so she could be the sole ruler of all dragonkin? Of course, this is just a hunch, but after our acknowledging her betrayal, we might then launch an attack against her, killing her at lv100, marking the end of the WoW franchise as all 5 dragon aspects are defeated, finally opening the door for WoW2: 100(ish) years down the line, after the 5 dragon aspects are dead, where the world goes, how the Horde/Alliance might split up, etc. etc.
Entirely speculation, but I wouldn't put it past Blizzard to think that far ahead and consider the various possibilities, especially judging by how shady the Malygos kill was.

Thanks to the posts here, i killed Malygos (10) solo today (as a Hunter)
The fight ist really tricky, i used an 7/31/3 specc with Spirit Bonds (cause i had to kill Saphiron first, to get the key). Pet Heal und MD Glyph,
P1: Quite easy.
Keep the pet up und try to kill the sparks to get the Dmgbuffzones.
After every Vortex i got aggro, so i had to use Feign Death. Problem: the pet ist somtimes low on health like after dismounting. Ruined several attempts.
Your goal is to get him down to atleast 40% before P2 starts. Dmg stop right before an Vortex or 2 stacking dmgbuffzones are very helpful (use Rapidfire)
P2: Really tough.
You get 7500 dmg per bolt by the Scions, but, as not bosslevel, they miss a lot. Allways stay in the shildzones und bringt the adds down as fast as possible. I noticed; the Scions stop attacking you for a while, after using Feign Death. Looks buggie, but helped a lot.
P3: Dmg race.
I used the 1,1,2,3 rota stated above and stacked 5 hot stacks before Malygos was attackable again. Avoid the Static Fields before they even hit you once and you should be able to kill him.
I used no other ability und i hardly downed him. I had roughly 20k left as he died. Startet at ~40% in P3.
Important: The Dragon in P3 scales with your Itemlevel. With my equip (50/50 359/372) i had 322k hp. With weaker gear you should reset after a weak P1 (40%+).
I was extremely lucky and got the Reins of the Azure Drake in this first run. Besides the Achievement "a poke in the eye" for killing him with less than 9 Player (obviously).
Good luck to everyone out there and happy farming.
Please excuse mistakes in the English language...

Just 10manned 25 version in a pug. P3 is where people start dying, what you do is as soon as you get mounted, spam 3 (the heal) up to 5 stacks, when Maly becomes attackable do the rotation 1123 the entire fight and stay out of stuff, easy.

As I figured, this is now soloable on 10-man by a blood DK.
http://i.imgur.com/RGskD.jpg
I used a 32/0/9 blood DPS spec and glyphs (rune strike) without rune tap and DPS gear. I reforged for 8% hit, had 39 expertise and 9 mastery (as little as possible) with haste/crit stacking. This boss is -barely- doable in this level of gear however, my equipped ilevel is 377. The only reason it is now doable is the death strike damage buff, which makes phase 1 go much more quickly.
To do this boss: Pull with army. AMS the breath as often as possible. Pop ghoul early (more or less useless damage as the sparks don't affect it). You'll have another ghoul to sac in P2. After the first vortex, kill the first spark before it reaches him, then grip the next spark on top of the aura from the first and kill it, same as you would have done when this boss was current content. Blow DPS cooldowns (DRW, engi gloves, on-use trinkets), burn boss, repeat.
Phase 2 is the difficult part. Have a ghoul out to sac (you can not summon one while on a disc). Kill the first Nexus Lord, leave the second one alive on the ground. Fly up, AMS and burn one nether scion down, then drop down into a magic suppression zone and VB/DS heal up off the still alive Nexus Lord, killing it. Ghoul sac. Fly back up, IBF and kill the remaining scions as quickly as possible before you get overwhelmed by their damage (their arcane barrages still hit you for ~12K so having 3 of them up means you can't outheal them without IBF or AMS up). Don't ever army in P2 as this causes the Nexus Lords to scatter outside the suppression zones.
Phase 3 is trivial at this item level of gear. Do a 1 1 2 3 rotation and start strafing just before a static field spawns so you don't take any damage from it, collect loot. I will note my drake was down below 100K HP a couple times even at this ilevel and if you lose your P3 stack, you're done.
It'd probably have been a bit less stressful if I dropped blood-caked blade or morbidity for rune tap and two points in WotN or blade barrier, but it only took me 3 attempts after the DS hotfix to kill.
I did the fight in blood presence (the incoming P1 damage is out-healable), specced vamp blood but not rune tap,
Kill took 9:39.

Duoed by a 366 Blood DK and a 373 Boomkin Druid. It took us a few tries to get right, but it was quite easy once we figured it out; phase 1, pop all dps CDs asap; use Army on pull. Take down Malygos as normal, making sure to kill the sparks for a 50% increased damage buff. Once Phase 2 begins, enter the suppression zone and kill the 2 mobs that come down to take their discs. Work together to kill every mob, and Phase 3 will begin. Use the rotation "1 1 2 3"; where we went wrong a few times was straying from this rotation.
Always use "1 1 2 3".
If you dps well and stick to this rotation, you should kill the boss with a few minutes to spare; if I (DK) had better gear, we probably could have pushed dps and got the 6 minute speed kill.

Soloed this today on 10 man, shadow priest with around 383 ilvl gear, will fraps it next week and post a video.
He doesn't hit extra hard in p1, and thanks to the vortex you have well enough time to heal up any hp lost. If you are lucky and get 2 sparks from the same side, that helps a lot.
P2 is just mad zerg on the melee adds, remember to dispel them as they tend to rape you if they are left with the buff. Hop on the disc and multidot all 4 remaining adds.
P3 is the old 1-1-2-3 rotation.

Possible (and fun!) to solo as a level 85 Shadow Priest.
I recommend speccing into
2/3 Empowered Healing
and
glyphing Inner Fire
for this fight. Carrying
mana potions
and
Drums of Kings
may help also.
Strategy below, but really, most of the fun of extreme soloing is working it out for yourself. If you're just in it for transmog gear though:Phase 1, full out DPS as he lands, try to get as much damage as you can before you need to heal. Save Shadowfiend or Dispersion to soak his breath attacks. If you have too much HP to proc Masochism on his melee attacks, you can let him eat a Power Spark to regain mana. Attempt to heal up during the spin cycle. Once your health drops low enough that you need to heal, de-form, and replace Mind Flay in your rotation with Flash Heal.
As you enter Phase 2, you may consider using Hymn of Hope for mana, as it will likely be tight on this phase. As soon as the Nexus Lords become attackable, unload on them. Get inside a bubble, and kill them off. While doing so, watch them for the magic buff, and mass dispel it ASAP. Once they're dead, hop on a disc and DPS the Scions down. Do
not
fly into the air, instead, remain on the ground inside the bubbles, as this will reduce damage taken from the Scions significantly. When Malygos is about to deep breathe, then fly high enough that it will not tick on you, and return to the ground afterwards.
Once the Scions are down, heal up, mana up, and fall onto your new drake.
During the initial monologue in Phase 3, stack up action 3 on yourself to 5 stacks. Once Malygos becomes attackable, begin the rotation: 1123. Be careful not to get close enough for him to melee you, get out of the lightning clouds, and if you cleared the previous phases fast enough, he'll go down without much difficulty.
If you're having trouble with berserk timer, and you're close to defeating him, try to fight from a high altitude in the final phase. After your drake dies, it will take longer for you to fall to your death, allowing the drake's DoT to tick a few extra times, and you to do some damage with instant casts.

Soloed the 10 man version as ret in 397 gear very easilly.
Used some talents to make soloing viable, ie: 2/2 selfless healer and 2/2 last word, and a point in sacred shield ofc. Glyphed wog + glyphed DP.
P1: Started with seal of insight and just kept a normal rotation. Wog heals whenever sub 35% hp to get that monster crit (esp with sacred shield up). After I had 2 sparks down on top of eachother I switched to SoV and popped all my cds + str pot. Used Devotion aura all the time, and DP on every breath I could.
P2: Just killed one of the scions on the ground, hopped on his disc and killed the rest. Easy phase but there's some damage, so be sure to heal yourself up.
P3: Easiest phase. Spam your heal and keep it at 5 stacks before Malygos becomes targetable.
Then use the following rotation: 1-1-2-3. I just strafed right every time he put that electrical cloud up. You can't die if you keep the 5 healing stacks up, as they almost out heal his damage. He died with 22 stacks up from the fire debuff (button 2). My drake was at about 85% health when Malygos died, so no worries if it ever dying if you keep this rotation up.
GL farming that mount.

Just managed to solo this with a warrior (390 ilvl, dps gear + prot spec) after seeing a video about it. Not too difficult to be honest, only took me about 5 tries and most of the wipes were due silly mistakes like letting spark through.
However he enraged and killed me half a second before he died on the dot. So I released and ran in to get my loot. But when I opened the chest it contained only money and no other items. As soon as I looted the money, the chest disappeared.
Just a little heads up for anyone soloing him. Try to stay alive or this might happen.
Update:
Contacted a GM and he send me the items that dropped without any questions asked.

Straightforward solo encounter with my ilvl 396 hunter using turtle pet spec'ed for max survivability. Pushing through the first two phases is simple, with the drake phase giving me a little trouble at first because I wasn't playing WoW when Malygos was current content. I use my base 7/31/3 MM solo spec, glyphed for Arcane Shot/Steady Shot/Kill Shot, Misdirection/Mend Pet/Disengage, Feign Death/whatever/whatever. I don't use my T5 set for Malygos. His hard enrage is 10 minutes.
Phase 1:
- Fairly standard tank & spank. Misdirect, mend pet. etc.
- Make sure you're flanking boss to avoid breath.
- Spark buffs are helpful when I can get them, but I usually have several of them reach Malygos without any noticeable increase in pet healing burden.
- Continue dps'ing boss during Vortex
- NOTE: As others have noted, Vortex will despawn your pet leaving you vulnerable when Vortex ends. I resummon pet with 1 second of Vortex remaining, immediately disengage toward the edge to draw boss away from Yertle (pet). Letting boss take one melee swing at me, then feigning death to reset aggro, ensures enough time for pet health to rebuff.
Phase 2:
- Starts at 50% boss health. If you can get here within 3 minutes of starting the fight, you're in excellent shape.
- Boss will drone on and on about some damned thing or other, ignore speech and continue dps'ing until he flies out of range and adds appear
- Other people's comments regarding which adds are which might be helpful, but I honestly didn't pay much attention. If it had a red nameplate, it needed to die.
- Boss creates purple buff zones on ground that reduce damage but shrink over time. This will create minimum range issues with ground adds. Attacking from inside a different bubble is ideal, but if necessary a reasonably geared hunter can survive outside the bubbles for long enough to kill a handful of adds at range.
- Be careful not to let flying adds get behind you overhead. Keep 'em in front of you.
- I've tried using discs and dps'ing from the ground. Easier and faster for me to just range adds down from the ground and soak the boss special attacks from inside a bubble. I've never had health issues doing that way, and chasing adds around on a disc is more trouble than it's worth.
Phase 3:
- NOTE: This phase takes at least three minutes and you can't reset the fight once it begins. If you don't win, you have to waste time wiping, running back, rebuffing, all that. If you won't make phase 3 with at least 3 minutes left to enrage, seriously consider resetting the encounter (deterrence -> dismiss pet -> feign death) to save yourself time in the long run.
- Starts when phase 2 adds are all dead
- Vehicle phase using drake mount
- Read other people's comments for the rotation, but I pre-stack 5 hots and then do 1/1/2/3 ad infinitum same as others
- You don't have to spam the abilities as fast as possible. I tried this at first and had big problems with the #2 dot stacks falling off before I could renew them. Just go a nice steady pace progressing through the rotation one button every second or two. You'll keep your hot stacks up, your dot stacks up, and your drake's energy up.
- Ignore Surge of Power. Your hot stacks will heal through it.
- Strafe clear of Static Field when boss casts. Your hot stacks will NOT heal through it.
- Don't panic, at the start of this phase it looks like you'll never beat the enrage timer. Just keep adding your stacks and your damage will increase throughout the phase.
- If you're having visibility issues, increasing your max camera distance and panning back can be helpful.
Collect lootz, partake of lulz, brag to friendz.
This is my first wowhead comment, so I help it's helpful to someone!

Blood dk, 399 lev full dps gear done.
Tips:
-try to get 2 sparks on top of each other.
-on last sparks before 50% mark, try to do as much dps as possible. Icy Touch, Death Coil & such.
-don't remember if melee hits hit on the whirlwind part, but you can Icy Touch, Death Coil and Blood Boil at least, as well as Outbreak.
-last phase, stack button 3 up to 5 stacks, then keep it up until phase starts. STAY OUTSIDE of his melee, I stood at max range for button 1 to hit, was far enough.
-just keep on 1-1-2-3 & repeat. Don't panic, just keep at it. Max range & move out of sparks with 5 stacks, you just cannot die.

Yo. Soloed this last night on my DK.
First of all: DPS race like others have said.
I first tried with a mix of tank and dps gear in blood spec (about 382 ilvl) and he enraged at 1.7 mill or so...
Flew back in, equipped full dps gear + 2 hander (379 ilvl) and it went pretty smoth. I changed to my dps weaps (frost dual wield) to raise my ilvl to 381 for last phase as dragons scales with ilvl, altho i'm not sure how much those 3 ilvls helped hehe.
I also took a few risky choises at start of phase 3 as i only did 1,2,3 rotation like 3-4 times to build up the stack quicker at first before doing 1,1,2,3. And i have to say i almost lost the stack when i got it to 3 or 4 cause of the short duration of only 1x the combo point stacker.
After that I just had to stay out of the lightning and keep up both the HoT and the DoT for a nice kill. No idea how close i was to enrage the secon time tho, cause i have no timer addon
No mount but was really fun to solo, harder than onyxia, easier than Kael'thas imo hehe.
GL to everyone else planing/trying to solo him! :)

I'm able to successfully solo Maly now without wiping every time after I changed my strategy and thought it would be helpful for others.
As a Blood DK in dps gear, I was still struggling with the traditional 1-1-2-3 rotation. I started experimenting with different rotations that eventually led me to find one that I have yet to die on. Normally I start the fight by stacking 3-3-3-3-3 (5 times), then go into my normal rotation which consists of 1-1-1-2-3-3-3 with that rotation I have been able to kill him always before enrage and never get close to dying. Hope it helps!

My tactic for the Mounted phase was the following, start by getting 5 stacks on the HOT on you then use the healing ability, after that start attacking and when you see the HOT is about to run out refresh it, but the most important thing is to keep the debuff up on Malygos all the time. If it falls then it's a big chance you'll not beat the enrage timer

This was extremely easy as a BM hunter. I fought him in heroic dungeon gear, which probably doesn't even matter. I even used a spirit beast for the quick self heal, but I did not need it at all.
As a hunter, just keep your pet set to tenacity. Once you start riding the drake, cycle 1-1-2-3 over and over while flying in circles around him. My drake never dropped below 90% health this way and I was able to take him down in less than 5 minutes.
Farm this quick for the Blue and Azure drakes before they go the way of the old ZG mounts!

Whole fight took like 55 mins.

I have done this with a partner at lvl 90, and we were fine. Simply know what to use in the last phase. (hit 1st ability five times and DOT ability, heal 5 times, and keep up heal between applying dots.) It should be like: 1 1 1 1 1 2, 3 3 3 3 3, 1 1 1 1 2, 3, 1 1 1 1 1 2. I've seen this solo'd as well, by stacking up to 25 long-term DOT's (2) on Malygos. This will be the tough part solo'ing at lvl 90.
Also, we tried to two man the 25-man and we're not sure if this is possible. The 10 man drops both drakes, so I don't know why you would bother other than for the achievement. In that case, you will need several more people, I'm guessing at least 4 who know how to use the drakes.

Today I able to solo a
Speed Kill
of him in 10man mode as a dps warrior.
No mount drop though (and yes both mounts do drop in 10man mode).
It was not very hard, just save all cd's till about 60-65% so you can get him low enough before P2 to not spend much time in P3. A spark helps.
In P3 just use x3 "
1
" followed by a "
2
" until you get down to 50% life then weave in some
healing
in between. The reason you want 3x charge is that the dot lasts longer that way so you have time for healing as well as next dot. Don't let the dot fall off.
The other abilities are not needed.
As ranged this should be even easier.

As of MoP, the 10-man version can be soloed by pretty much anyone. Honestly, if I was able to do it on my first try as a badly geared 90 rogue (after reading the strat for phase 3, of course... because I never really did that one daily and I suck at it so much), then so can you.
Of course, the more DPS you can put out on the first two phases, the more room you have for mistakes in phase 3, in case you're just as uncoordinated as I am. Killing the sparks in phase 1 and grabbing the buff for yourself definitely helps.
10-man is also all you're going to need unless you want the 25-man achievements, as the Azure Drake and the cool weapon transmogs all drop from this version.

I absolutely cannot solo this encounter - I don't know what I'm doing wrong....
I can get through Phase 1 and 2 no problem and bring him to about half life or less going into Phase 3. I jump on the drake - and spam up #2 five times while he is sitting there talking and then seems no matter what rotation I try or what I do - his health NEVER moves past like 25% no matter what...
I've tried the 1,1,1,1,1,2,3,3,3,1,1 and the 1,1,12,3,3,3 and the 1,1,2,3 like some of the video on YouTube suggest - and it doesn't matter. I keep strafing to the left or right avoiding those lightning blasts he throws out... No matter what I seem to do - his health never moves past 25%, he enrages and even if I have full life and my drake has full energy - we die.
...wtf is wrong here?
Maybe I'm not understanding the combo points you have to stack correctly or I'm not understanding exactly how the rotation works but I have copied exactly what I've seen and read and nothing - fail every damn time.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or maybe NOT doing?

really easy to solo as a ranged class at 90, at least on 10 man
Get two sparks stacked and force transition to phase 2, then pop all cooldowns and burst as hard as you can before he flies out of range. I hit phase 3 with 1 HP left, which meant I just had to hit the 1 button only once when he came up in phase 3 for a win. No dodgy drake/vehicle mechanics to worry about.

I just did this as a 482 Fury Warrior. Always manage to nuke him down to about 20-30% but still need to do the last phase on the drakes. I assume this would be true for most melee classes.
Instead of using those preset sequences, here's what I did. You only need abilities 1, 2 and 3 and a mod that can watch combo points + the dot debuff.
1. Get 5 stacks on the boss by pressing 1
2. Use 2
3. Slam 3 to heal yourself in between (avoid the sparks AOE, you can't do anything about that stare though)
4. 10-15s left on the dot, repeat 1 (do it at 20s left if you can)
Did this cycle maybe 3-4 times and it was dead. P3 lasts about 1-2 mins.
(optional) if you find yourself with only < 5s left, don't let the dot fall off, refresh it by 1 and then immediately 2. Buy yourself some time to get another 5-stack dot up. But it shouldn't be necessary unless you are about to die.
The dot on the boss is what kills it. So you need to keep it up. I killed it with about 5-6 stacks on the boss.

Start with hotting yourself to 5 stacks then do the following:
1)

2)
Immediatly HoT yourself to refresh it.
3)
Wait for full energy, then HoT yourself again.
4)
Repeat from step 1.

Phase 2 can be tricky for classes with no heal spells, but for blood DK it's not aproblem, just kill the 2 mobs on the platform, hop on a disc and killed the remaining 4 mobs.
Phase 3 can be tricky if you don't now what to do. What you have to do is press: 1, 1, 2, 3. DONT SPAM. If you spam you're not going to make it! Find a nice pace. I find out that after I press 3, I should watch my healing stack until it has 6 seconds left (from 10 seconds) and when I did that, my #2 was usable again. Just keep this pace and you will kill him in a few minutes.
Good luck! :)

Just solo'd the 25m version on my warlock. My gear is 491 ilvl. I'm affliction specced, using a voidwalker with grimoire of supremacy and soul link.
There's a bit of a bug with the boss, or it's not mentioned in the fight description. There's an aggro reset after the vortex. And as a warlock, it took a good while before my pet picked up aggro again (like 30 sec or so). So you have a couple of options, either tank him yourself after the vortex, with the voidwalker whacking on him for about 30 sec till he re-establishes aggro, or you can soulshatter. Soulshatter will return the aggro to your voidwalker, but it's on a 2 minute cooldown, so if you hit another vortex, you're going to face the exact same problem. You will probably only face 2 vortexes, so your best bet is to shatter the first one, then just tank the 2nd one while using the proper defensive cooldowns and a healthstone.
This takes you into p2, because getting him to 50% was not difficult. In p2, make sure you get your voids on the 4 melee guys, and dot them up. It helps to kill the melee guys as quick as possible, because with all 4 of them whacking on you, it can tax your health more than you would expect. But if you just focus them down, it will be easy going until p3. I use the glyph of corruption that gives you back some health whenever it ticks....so i would just dot up as many of the scions as possible and you'll get plenty of self healing from it. the scions have less than 400k health, so you can easily focus them down one at a time or just dot them all as they circle around you in the air.
once you get to p3, its just like everyone else in the thread says...quickly get yourself to 5 stacks of the hot (number 3), then once maly becomes targetable, just concentrate on doing 1-1-2-3, then repeat that sequence until he dies. 1-1-2-3 will do two things...it will keep your stack of hots on yourself, and it will slowly build a stack of dmg to maly. On 25 man, it took a while for him to go down. His health will not change much until you start getting your dps stacks around 20, then you will notice his percentage will start dropping. If you find you make a mistake with your rotation and have to choose between dropping your hots or dropping your dps stack, keep the dps stack up or you probably won't survive. It's much easier to regain your 5 stack of hots than a 20 stack of dmg.
I hate to be "that guy" but the mount dropped the first time, so I can't really tell you if blizz changed it to 100% chance now, or if I just got lucky. Good luck.

Solo'ed as SV Hunter, gear is 483ilvl. When ever I solo old raid content I always think about going BM and using a spirit beast for the heal it has but in this fight I did not need it. Use MD at the beginning and nuke down the boss, when P2 begins MD again so the 2 Nexus Lords aggro your pet, bring them down then hop on to the hover disc and kill the remaining 4 mobs flying around.
Doing that will start P3 and easily the most challenging part of the fight
IF
you dont the rotation for your new moves that you have on your dragon. I myself died a few times, needlessly spamming all the buttons or not getting the balance right between dps and healing. As soon as you gain control of your dragon use "3" and stack it up 5 times, 3 is your HoT that will keep you alive. By the time it reaches 5 Malygos should become active, all you need to do is follow the set pattern as many users have said in the comments of "1-1-2-3". Your damage may not seem that good and Maly's hp might not look like its going down at first but following this pattern you will hardly lose any health and his health will go down alot quicker as the fight progresses and the DoT from "2" starts stacking up. Also move out of and avoid the lightning AoE that he casts for needless damage.
Bar that just be patient, if you have hit 1 twice but 2 is not useable yet just wait till it is and then 3 and rinse and repeat. At 90 I think any class could do this without any problems its just learning P3 and getting used to it.
I also hate to be that guy but my first time doing Malygos, he dropped the Azure Drake. If only all the other mounts and transmorg items I want would be as kind :D

Attempted to solo - Patch 5.2 - Level 90 Paladin
First two phases are simple, I popped all my CD's and nuked him, occasionally casting a heal. The real problem is the last phase. It is easy enough to keep your dragon alive and DPS at the same time, but as it is effectively doing a level 80's damage against Malygos, you hit the enrage timer.
I got him down to 1M HP before the enrage so I would imagine that it is very possible to two-man it.

Just solo'd 25 man w/ ilvl 485 Fury Warrior. Even with awesome DPS, u really need to practice P3 to get the rotation down. Even 1 screw up and you'll hit enrage if your stacks fall off. Ranged don't have as big of a problem as they can take down a big chunk of her HP during the phase transition, eliminating a lot of P3's up time. No mount, but REALLY glad to know its possible without cheating like they do on all the YouTube videos I've seen (let boss enrage before the final P3 push, sit in pink bubble for 30min until enrage wears off, then continue to take minutes, hours, days, however long u want to finish her in P3 without her ever re-enraging.)
Good luck to everyone on farming her mount!

Ridiculously easy to solo as an ilvl 477 survival hunter with any pet.
Phase 1 - Stand behind Malygos, to avoid his bad breath. One-shot the sparks when they get on the platform, and stand in their gooey electrified corpses. Keep firing at him during the vortex - the only issue here is that your pet despawns, so all aggro goes to you. Feign death once he lands again to keep him chomping on your pet and not you.
Phase 2 - not difficult. Keep moving around - the balls of purple-blue fire are targeted at the ground, not you. Shoot down the floating magic-men that come towards you, and steal their floating discs to get to the smart, higher-up magic-men.
Phase 3 - ... lol? Stack up the HoT, then 1, 1, 2, 3 once he's targetable. You're invincible, he's on fire, and then he falls to oblivion. All is good. Collect loot.
I don't even bother with mend pet - I have a tenacity turtle, but he never loses more than 10k healther before
Spirit Bond
heals him up again, and he's never proc'ed
Shell Shield
before on this fight.
He dropped Azure Drake my first run, but not a scale nor horn of Blue Drake yet.

If you're having trouble getting through phase 3 solo with the 1-1-2-3 rotation, I found it easiest to let your energy fully recharge between 2 and 3. This build a solid rhythm where my stacks never dropped and my health regenned enough to stay ahead of his damage.

Before phase 3 starts, build up your health buff to 5 stacks by pressing button 3, once the fight starts it will give you a head start, then stick to button rotation 1,1,2,3.

Just solo'd him as a 489 Shadow Priest. For those having a hard time in phase 3 I can confirm that 1,1,2,3 does work, you just can't rush it. It took me 8 times to finally kill him because I was frantically button smashing. Once I slowed down and took my time I downed him easily. Plus the blue drake dropped for me the first time! Will keep doing this until I get the azure drake as well.

I don't know if anyone posted this before (or if it is alright to do this in the first place, though I don't think this is an exploit), but...
I soloed him today in 25 man mode without any sort of enrage time pressure.
Phase 1: Nuke as much as you can. It doesn't really matter how far down you get his HP, but it makes phase 3 a little less annoying. As an 522 Elemental Shaman I got him down to ~45-50%.
Phase 2: Kill all Adds except for one. If you've got some passive effect dealing damage to attackers - i.e. Lightning Shield - remove it. Stay on your flying disk thingie. Wait. Waiting is the most important part of this phase, for you a) wait until Malygos enrages (he cannot kill you in this phase) and b) wait until his Berserker is over. That takes 30 minutes, so do this if you, I don't know, want to cook lunch and meanwhile do something "meaningful" in WoW. Once the 30 minutes are over, kill the last add and have fun in...
Phase 3: I personally use 3-3-3-3-3-1-1-1-1-1-2-1-1-1-1-1-2-3-3-3-3-3 and so on. Maybe 4 with 5 stacks of 1 if I drop low from, I don't know, chatting in the guild channel and not moving out of something quickly enough.
All in all, it was completely pointless with both drakes dropping in 10 man and took 45 minutes. I didn't have to ask for help, though, so, whatever. xD

The Beginner's Guide to Soloing Malygos:
Edit: As of 6.0, soloing instances that you've outlevelled is a LOT easier. I'll leave this writeup intact for those who want to try at lower levels, but anyone level 90+ will have Malygos nearly dead when phase 3 starts.
Set your raid difficulty. The mounts are just as likely to drop in 10-man as in 25, so I'll assume that's what you're doing. At lvl 90 you shouldn't have much trouble with 10-man. Enter the instance by taking the top-most portal inside the spire at The Nexus in Coldarra, Borean Tundra.
Start the fight by clicking the big orb in the middle of the platform. Beat Malygos down. Sparks will spawn; you can kill or ignore them. When Malygos becomes untargetable, phase 2 has started.
Adds will spawn on hoverboards. Kill one and get on their hoverboard. Fly around killing the other adds. Stay well above the main platform, so you don't get hit by what Malygos is throwing out. When the last hoverboard add is killed, phase 3 starts.
You are plopped on the back of a red drake. You have three buttons of interest here:
1 - direct damage
2 - stacking damage over time
3 - self heal over time
Start pressing 3 immediately upon landing on your red drake. You should be able to get a full stack of five going before Malygos engages. Fly up a little so you can see him. Target him when he becomes targetable and start your casting rotation: 1, 1, 2, 3. At times you will have to wait for the next button in your rotation to become available (usually 2). Do not skip a button! Just wait patiently until you can continue in order.
Hover in place, working your rotation. When Malygos hits you with the extra bright, electric-sounding cloud, strafe sideways out of it. Do not let this interrupt your rotation, even if it takes you a few extra seconds to get moved.
Keep working your rotation and scooting out of the electric clouds as needed. As the stacks of your damage over time accumulate on Malygos, his health will drop more quickly.
Optional: Once you can do so without interrupting your rotation, back away until you're close to max range from Malygos. He has one spell that he'll only use if you're close, so staying back will reduce the damage you take. Just don't get out of range and lose those stacks of debuff! This isn't critical in 10-man but is something to try if you're struggling, or if you want to try 25-man.
Once the fight is over, Alexstrasza appears and creates a red diamond chest next to Malygos's blue heart. Open the chest, sigh in disappointment that it doesn't contain any mounts, and click the nearby portal to exit the instance. Try again next week!

Some things I've discovered.. A may prove useful..
1... No matter what side you are.. using the transport to Borean Tundra is the best way to get to the Raid.. Flying from Dalaran may seem a good idea, but.. its not..
2. Any class can kill him.. if you re 90.. and with a ilvl as much as 430 you can down him.. I recomend full crafted pvp gear..
3. Its possible to alter the rotation to 1 1 1 2 3. Malygos dies far more faster.
4. Up vote the guys who came with the idea of that rotation.
5. Dont give up.. BOTH mount do drop from this guy.
Have fun above else! ...
Cheers :)

For ranged characters trying to solo Malygos, here is a great addition to the strategies posted below.
When Malygos transitions from Phase One to Phase Two, he does a speech and a very slow flying animation before becoming untargetable until Phase Three. This was usually when most cooldowns were popped. However with good DPS control and Deadly Boss Mods, you can maximize this uptime to deal as much DPS as possible. Here is how to do it:
Start Phase One normally, but try to do as much DPS as possible, bringing him to close as 50% as possible
without going under
.
Wait for Vortex to sweep you in the air. Once this happens, continue DPSing, now as hard as you can without popping the big cooldowns.
Once Vortex is over, Malygos still needs to do a slow landing animation before doing a slow lifting animation to start his transition. Once you're on the floor, pop all cooldowns and go ham.
If done correctly, you will have loads of time to put a lot of hurt into him. With enough DPS, you can easily bring him down to 1% Health before Phase Two starts, making Phase Three a breeze.
Hopefully this information helps people who were struggling with this encounter.

Just solo'd this on my fresh 90 Druid about 450ilvl; bleeds barely dented him past half after the fly phase. Was a bit worried about the last phase about taking too much dmg and my dmg out put on the dragon; then realized Ysera's Gift talent works on the dragon so I was constantly healing for 100k. If you do have a 85+ Druid, spec Ysera's Gift and just dps away with no worries. You'll out heal all of Maly's dps.

I wish I had a victory success story to share here too, but I give up (for now) trying to solo Malygos, no matter how much of a loser I may seem. I'm on a Prot Pally iLvl 515, off-spec Ret. I tried both specs, and I get him down to half health on each, but it's the rotation on the dragon that does me in every single time.
I have been trying since Cata, following all the advice here. I'm using the 1-1-2-3 as advised and I'm still obliterated. I even tried 1-1-1-2-3 like one of the users here said she did at times, and I've tried with both having no stacks of heals and
with
stacking heals up to 5x's. Nada. Fine. So be it. Maybe it works better at a higher gear level, or maybe the RNG and Rotation Gods just don't like me (since it took me 5 years to loot the Rivendare's Deathcharger from Stratholme side entrance). I've had trouble in the Occulus as well. Not going to waste of my gold on any more repairs or tactics that won't work for me solo in this gear level.
~yes I'm mad~

Strategy as a level 90 Hunter (or any ranged)
Phase one
- Blow every single CD and bring Malygos to 1 health (can't die in 1st phase)
Phase two
- Look awesome and kill adds
(insert nap time due to RP)
Phase three
- Hit Malygos once
Profit!

As of 5.4 and before
this is easily soloable by 90s.
Just beat him down like normal until he flies.
Kill nexus lords, jump on hover discs, Kill scions.
Initiate phase 3:
1) Begin by stacking up your 3 skill 5X
2) Press order 1,1,2,3 (if you're mashing 1, and overmash you will not be able to keep your 3 stacks up.
3) Dodge sparks, or move out of them
4) you should be able to maintain your dot (2) on maly, while upkeeping your (3) and healing yourself. If your 2 is falling off, you're using too much energy. There will be a gap between 1,1, and 2.

Just for anyone interested in soloing it: I cannot stress enough that you don't try to rush p3 (assuming you don't basically kill him beforehand) -- I was having a lot of trouble because I'd honestly forgotten that energy was a thing in p3 (in my defense, my UI was rather obtuse about it and I hadn't done the encounter since it was relevant).
Pace yourself.
Just start off with 3 3 3 3 3, then repeat 1 1 2 3 and win. If you're getting low (I did sometimes, but I'm at 85), keep up 2 and use 1 1 4 until you get back up to a reasonable point. Not much else to say.

Can confirm that as of December 2014 Malygos DOES drop both the Blue and the Azure Drake. I farmed and EoE 10m Normal and got the Azure Drake during MoP and today, when reading people were getting the Blue Drake as a drop I decided to go for it. Killed Malygos on 5 toons, 10m Normal, in one sitting today; Azure dropped on the third and (as others have said happened to them) BOTH dropped on the 5th. So they must have increased the drop rate because that was a piece of cake.
I've wanted the Blue Drake since Malygos was current but never saw him drop, so I was insanely excited. Not to mention I've always thought, since Wrath, that they should've had a a green drake in the game. Blue was the last I needed for the Awake the Drakes achievement so now I have TWO drakes that I've desperately wanted for many years XD.
They were pretty easy kills even on my mediocre geared level 90s (two of them being tanks in tank gear and spec).

Location of the Instance
The instance,
The Eye of Eternity
, is located through the top-most portal inside The Nexus building in Coldarra,
Borean Tundra
, Northrend, located northwest of Warsong Hold (Horde). The nearest neutral flight path is called
The Transitus Shield
, which should now be an auto-learned flightpath.
Why is this instance worth completing?
Several achievements (see below for list), and two mounts:
碧蓝幼龙的缰绳
and
蓝色幼龙的缰绳
, both of which have a small chance to drop in both the 10-man/25-man difficulties (to select difficulty, right click on your portrait, go to raids, and select the difficulty that you'd like).
Soloing at 100, and it's your first time here?
Malygos is
easily
soloable at level 100. It's also a very quick clear, as there is no trash or winding corridors -- you are able to summon the boss within seconds of entering the instance.
Enter the instance and, when ready, click the orb to start the encounter.
Phase 1
, just burn him down. Even as a caster wearing cloth, he should barely touch you at max level.
Phase 2
consists of several
Scion of Eternity
mobs spawning, flying around on hover disks. When one is killed, they will drop a disk which you can then ride (fly) on to more easily kill the others (see related achievement below). Kill them all, and you will auto-dismount from the hover disk (be careful of falling damage -- don't go too high!).
Phase 3
, Malygos will destroy the floor, and you'll be caught by a drake. With you at level 100, Malygos should already be near 1hp at this point, and a single attack or two from your drake -- mount/vehicle option 1 -- should finish him off. Loot what spawns after he drops away, and exit the instance out of the portal that appears (it's there, just hard to see sometimes. Don't dismount the drake as this will kill you).
Related Achievements
You should be able to get these in one go at each difficulty. Do note that both the 10 and 25-man versions share a lockout period, so you can unfortunately only do one of them once per week per character.
The Spellweaver's Downfall
(
10man
/
25man
) - Kill Malygos.
You Don't Have an Eternity
(
10man
/
25man
) - Defeat Malygos in 6 minutes or less (
pretty easy at 100
).
A Poke in the Eye
- Defeat Malygos with less than 9 players in
10-player mode
, or less than 21 in
25-player mode
(
assuming you're soloing this, you get it automatically
).
Denyin' the Scion
(
10man
/
25man
) - Deliver a killing blow to a Scion of Eternity while riding on a hover disk. (
This is only one where you have to do something outside of just quickly killing him. The only way to miss this is if you don't get on a dropped hover disk after killing a Scion. Unlikely for a melee class to miss this, but a ranged class might decide to kill them all from the ground.
)
All of the above are required for the meta-achievement Glory of the Raider (
10man
/
25man
). Once upon a time, Glory of the Raider rewarded mounts (
Reins of the Plagued Proto-Drake
and
Reins of the Black Proto-Drake
, respectively) but the rewards have long since been removed. The Plagued Proto-Drake now has a small chance of dropping from
Unclaimed Black Market Container
, won from
Madam Goya
who recently moved to the Ring of Blood in Nagrand, Draenor. Of note, the Container can
also drop many other rare mounts/pets
. The Black Proto-Drake, at the present, can sadly no longer be obtained in any way, apparently.
The mounts that have a chance to drop from the instance itself (
碧蓝幼龙的缰绳
,
蓝色幼龙的缰绳
) are part of the very frustrating meta-achievement
Awake the Drakes
, which awards
Reins of the Emerald Drake
. If you're just going for mounts and don't care about achievements, then might as well just run the 10-man version for the sake of quickness; the difference in drop chance is negligible between the two difficulties.

He's tougher after the 8.01 stat squish. Killed my level 100 BM Hunter equipped with artifact weapon twice.
Was only able to burn him down to 20-25% before going phase 2 vs down to 1% the day before.
Stacked 3 six times then did the 1-1-2-3 rotation. He seemed to get stuck at 5-10% health and would then one-shot me.
It's late so I'll try tomorrow with a different rotation.

Do the drakes still drop? I have every other for the achievements but blue and azure just won't drop, I had so many attempts I'm losing faith.

N10 has better drop rate than N25.

Fun fact: it's possible to break the encounter if you kill all the Scions before Malygos finishes flying off out of range. He'll just circle you forever, but he won't break the platform. Takes about 15 seconds for him to be fully out of the arena so make sure at least one of the Scions lives until then.

You can get both drakes in one run, apparently,
as seen here.
I just want the damn sword ; ;

Was doing a transmog farm as a Balance Druid. When phase 2 hit and all the adds appeared, I used Starfall & they were instantly killed. The run didn't go to phase 3. Malygos just flew around in a circle. Ended up having to hearth.

First day of Trading Post, I figure I'll do the Show Some Love to Fallen Dragons, I go to Malygos first, on normal.
Drops Azure Drake AND Blue Drake in a single run! I've had the Blue for many years, I honestly didn't know he dropped them, it's been so long.
