Leotheras is a difficult fight because as well as having an enrage timer, he is constantly changing forms, and that means the resposibilities of people in the raid are contantly changing. He basically switches between two forms every 40 seconds, but within one of the forms he also uses his Whirlwind ability, which wipes aggro. That means everybody in the raid has to be alert throughout the fight or you'll just be wiping at the same points all the time.
A full guide to Leo can be found at
http://www.bosskillers.com/cgi-bin/bbguild/index.cgi?action=view_guide&guide_id=54
(this guide uses a warlock offtank to allow melee DPS to hit Leotheras troughout the fight. You can use a single tank strategy too, but then the fight becomes seriously rogue unfriendly)

We've attempted this guy yesterday and we downed him the same evening.
Here are just some pointers for the Warlock tank:
- Aim for 12k hp and 250 fire resistance unbuffed.
- Make sure you still got enough Dmg / Hit (/ Crit) in that gear
- Respec to:
http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/basics/talents/warlock/talents.html?0000000000000000000002050030133250100531300505000512230010000000
(This gives you 75 additional resistance, soullink, 15% stamina, 3% health, 15% crit to searing pain, ruin and 70% chance that your searing pain wont be interupted.
- Place your felhunter relatively far away so he wont take any whirlwind dots (and doesnt take the AOE from the fire blast ofc.)
- Make sure you're soulstoned, if you got the above gear and spec you should have over 365 FR (with pally aura) and resist *most* of his fire balls. However, in a rare case you wont resist and as it stacks you might end up with quite some stacks and sometimes your raid enters phase3 before your debuff ran out (preferably make sure your raid doesn't get him in phase3 before your debuff ran out). In that case you might end up taking 17k (and up) hits. Dont worry, just soulstone, instant summon (0,5sec) another felhunter, soullink, and get aggro on the demon asap.
- For those who want an idea of what gear they should aim for, I used:
Flameheart gloves/bracers/chest, Infernoweave boots, the FR necklace from Cipher quest, the FR ring from The Eye attunement quest, the ring from exalted Cenarion Expedition (lots of stamina, dmg and +hit, thats exactly the stuff youre looking for), 2x Goblin rocket launcher (you can also use the arcane resistance trinket, which also has +36 stamina, or the netherwing revered trinket, or the argussian compass from underbog, just try to fill your trinket slots with as much stamina/fire res possible), rest was Gladiator gear (and PVP cloak), which is really good as it gives loads of stamina/dmg/crit.
You should also always check the auction house for 'Fire Protection' because a lvl 70 'Fire protection' item is nearly as good as the epic badges Infernoweave set.

Some background info about this boss.
Leotheras the Blind is possibly one of 5 blood elves that Illidan authorized to recieve training in the arts of the demon hunter. Of the 5 pupils, 3 have died, one has gone mad (most probably Leotheras, and it explains why he is a demon hunter and is binded in SSC) and the last one, Varedis (

) passed the tests.

Druids tank this better than warlocks. I did this tonight for my guild and found that there is a point at which a melee FR tank (preferably druid for faster threat generation) can stand in front of demon form leo at which you can still hit him to gain aggro, but the melee dps (stationed at his backside) will not recieve any damage from chaos blast. When he switches to human form the druid can either tank the entire fight or switch off with a second druid/warrior in full tank gear to make healing the raid easier. (since the demon form FR tank will have sacrificed many of his good tanking stats for resistance increases) We didnt want to take any chances so both the warrior and i fought for aggro after each phase shift/whirlwind - too many dps were being noobs and pulling from DOTs or whatever whenever he reset his aggro.
*EDIT*
btw the best way for a druid to grab aggro immediately after whirlwind is feral charge + mangle + maul and having a 5 stacked lacerate already ticking him (if worse comes to worst that miniscule dot will be enough to rip aggro and save him from running around ganking your raid if you miss your initial mangle + maul)
how to get EXACTLY 375 buffed FR (capped)
my resistance gear:
-4/4 heroic badge FR arnor (gloves, boots, chest, legs)
-Trial of the Naaru: Magtheridon FR ring
-Amulet of the Torn Heart neckpiece
-Syrannis cloak from botanica with +7 to all resistances enchant (serves a double purpose as a hydross resistance tank item); also the onyxia cloak with +15 FR and the ony trinket are not needed because this collection of items will cap you
-FR aura and improved MotW
-other viable options would be onyxia trinket or cloak, crappy greens or an unlikely drop off the animal boss in kara ;) or as the poster above me commented - Flameheart Bracers and Wyrmcultist's Cloak
Without FR aura you will have somewhere around 328 or 338 FR (i forget which one) with an improved mark of the wild - by luck of the gods when FR aura is stacked i achieved EXACTLY 375 FR... probably due to the MotW not stacking with FR aura
-Loadeddice, Kul Tiras, Vengeance battlegroup

tips on execution from a warlock who's done it. (
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Ner%27zhul&n=Unionjack
)
demon phase is 60s and human phase is 45 seconds
so that means 15s or so before human phase put your COD up. don't be early, cod going off later is not as bad as pulling agro in human form with an early cod. I usually do it around 14.5s or 13s
if the cod resists, it resists on cast, you can announce to your raid to give you a second or two for agro.
(remember cod has a 60s cd, so if it resists, you dont get it for that demon phase)
a couple seconds before he switches to demon form, start spamming searing pain. (you're not going to pull agro with that at the end because you're in FR gear and the tank has been working on him for a long time)
try to time it so a searing pain lands ~.5 seconds after he switches into demon form.
Even if you blindly spam it a couple seconds before without trying to land it perfectly, it will always be better than waiting for him to change.
your felhunter doesn't need to be out of range of you, it wont get hit with the blast wave. make sure the healers know to heal the soul linked felhunter....
if you die its not really all that bad, the thing that makes him hit hard is the debuff stacking, so if you die with like 15s or less left in demon phase, ss back up and start doing damage, the healers will ahve to heal a bit on dps, but it wont be as much since they wont have a high number of stacked debuffs. you'll be able to pick it up next demon phase.
for phase 3 (when he changes into both forms), depending on the timing you might have a crapload of stacked debuffs on you. that means the healers need to be spamming highest rank heals nonstop, I get lots of overheal, but if I die in this phase I can't pick him up again.
use spell damage oil, spell food buffs, and flask/elixir up, you really need that extra damage so the dps can go to town.

inner demons should be much easier to kill in 2.3 since healers will not have to sacrifice some gear for +dmg gear
their healing +1/3dmg can provide enough to take them down

Leo can also be tanked by a prot pally in FR gear during both phases. A prot pally's front loaded threat generation is great for all the transition aggro wipes and really makes this fight simple. Make sure there are 1 or 2 prot warriors nearby in case the pally dies during the demon phase and doesn't rez/rebuff in time for the start of the next human form phase. Give the prot pally a soul stone. Its ok for other players to take a few hits of Chaos Nova as they don't hurt until the debuff hits 3-4 stacks. During phase 3, the pally can tank both forms at the same time, but I would recommend he just tank the demon form while a prot warrior or two keeps the human form busy long enough for Leo to die.
Plate can easily hit 365 FR with about 7-8 items. The rest of your gear should be regular tank/stamina gear. Use all spell dmg buffs (Flask of Blinding Light, Wizard Oil, etc.) You should have at least 365 FR, 16k health (w/ imp) and 500 spell dmg. You'll also probably need some mana pots and/or innervates during the fight to maintain max threat throughout the fight. Leo in demon form doesn't do very much damage but it is very spikey, so you'll run out of mana fast during this phase. Most of your mana regenation will come from healing during the human form phase where the damage is much heavier but also more steady. Keep trying to tank Leo during the whirlwind phase. The whirlwind itself will only hit you for about 1k health, but the Rend DoT it applies will tick for about 3k per tick which is a great way to take damage and regen mana off the heals it requires. I recommend you keep up Judgement of Wisdom during the whole fight.
The debuff stacking is random so during some rounds of the demon form phase you'll see as little as 1 or 2 stacks and other times you might be unlucky enough to see up to 8 stacks or more. Chaos Blast cannot be partially resisted. You either take the full blast or completely resist it. This makes the damage VERY spikey and you can easily die from too many stacks of the debuff. The MT healers really need to be paying attention as the debuffs stack up. A pally with 16k health can survive a hit of Chaos Blast with up to about 7-8 stacks of the debuff if he's at full health. You should be averaging about 3-5 debuffs by the end of the phase. Anything above 5 stacks is fairly dangerous. There are many ways to deal with heavy debuff stacking. You may want to consider bubbling off the debuff if you get a lot of stacks early in the phase although regaining aggro can sometimes be a chore. Another option is to get some range on Leo and keep moving. You can actually dodge his Chaos Blasts as they actually target the ground you're standing on. If you're far enough away and constantly moving, you won't get hit. You'll need a wide open area for this as you don't want your guildies to get hit by it either. You can also try having a 2nd tank (of any class really) pull aggro and take over for the rest of the phase. Finally, you can also experiment with temporary max health increasing trinkets or items. Nightmare seeds (+2000 max health for 30 secs) make a great emergency buff.
Make sure consecration is active during the transformations and immediately judge whatever dmg spell you prefer after the transformation is complete. For whirlwinds, time an Avenger's Shield cast for just when he's ending the whirlwind and it will grab him every time. (If he resists, follow up with a damaging judgement) Prot warriors can also help in the extreme cases where he chain resists or outranges you. Use Holy Shield only during the human form phase and use exorcism during the demon form phase (He becomes classified as a demon during this phase so, yes, you can use your undead/demon spells.) If you stand at max melee range while tanking the demon form, the melee dps can melee him from behind without being hit by Chaos Nova. Hunters should use misdirects as needed to help out.
Leo tends to head towards whoever damaged him last so if you keep attacking him as if you are still tanking he usually won't wander off very far before coming back, especially if you use Seal of Vengeance. The DoT portion of SoV is a great way to maintain aggro and the judgement hits harder than JoR making it a better snap aggro judgement.
The two biggest challenges with this fight are the tank regaining aggro after a whirlwind and everyone being able to kill their inner demons before being MC'ed. Prot pallies are best suited for grabbing quick aggro after a whirlwind and after the 2.3 patch, few players should have any trouble killing their inner demons. If the occasional person does get MC'ed, kill them and then (if you want) battle rez them. Don't bother trying to keep them sheeped. Its not worth it.

It should definitly be noted that when you hit that 15% mark and he splits into both forms; for about 10 seconds all DPS can just go all out as he will not attack and there is no aggro table. However; after those first 10 seconds, all DPS should stop and let the tank pick up the Human form and move him away from the demon form so that we do not have a problem with chaos blast. My guild does this everytime and we bring him down from 15% down roughly 2-3% making this last phase that much more easier. During this phase his human form acts as though it was any other time of the fight so be aware of whirlwind and aggro.

Does Iceblock remove the Chaos Blast debuff?
I used to tank him in demon-shape as warrior with FR gear, but we have been playing with the idea of having a mage tanking him with max FR gear, using iceblock should the debuff stack too much :o
*Edit: we just killed him with a mage tanking him (way too much FR gear on him ^^) went pretty easy, and yes - Iceblock does remove the debuff - and the mage will have aggro back when he cancels the iceblock and does fireblast <3 - Works wonders for when you hit 15% :)

True you can't get healed or heal others but you can still participate by doing damage on the boss or Heartstoning to kill alliance for fun. :P

For prot warriors having difficulty killing their inner demons I had the same problem. I got to the point of just popping recklessness just to kill my inner demon, but that only works once! After a few kills I decided to attempt to spell reflect the shadow bolt rather than use it as a rage boost and it actually takes a load of health off the demons. So as soon as Leo goes demon, switch to battle stance and start your white attacks so you get a full rage bar if you get the inner demon. If you get one put up 5 devastates and pop your Auto-Blocker (if you have one) before you Shield Slam, all the while staying above 25 rage for Spell Reflection. Once you reflect that Shadow Bolt you should be within execute range after a couple of hits. Easy mode! Good luck!

Max your Fire resist with Infernowave set and "Fire Protection" greens from AH. All other gear replace with PVP gear to ensure high stam and good caster stats. You want to balance survivabilty with stats. If you don't either you will die and wipe, or you will not allow enough threat for your dps.
Nether protection gives you no benefit.
If this is your first Leo, get Soul Link. Once you have beaten Leo without dropping below 20% health, then you can spec whatever you want. Soul Link's resistance is easy to bypass, it's the 20% the pet soaks that make the difference.
Also, the pet will take damage from whirlwinds, it will not take damage from Chaos Blast.
This guy is resettable. Save your wipe protection until 15% when he splits. Use your Soulstone on your warlock tank once he splits. If he dies he can easily pick threat back up because he only has to fight healer aggro.
Split Phase is when people panic. DONT PANIC. You will not be able to down Leo if at 15% you get sloppy and allow yourself to get hit by whirlwinds.
If you are a healer, it is wise to bring an enchanted dps weapon to switch during battle when you get a demon.

For a warlock tanking Leotheras, the two piece tier 5 set bonus is incredibly useful as it means your healers don't have to worry about the soul link damage to your felhunter nearly as much.

This is just my number crunching on Destructive Reach I did mid raid so it MIGHT not be 100% accurate.
Even with the 10% reduction, spamming searing pain at 900 / shot nets 1620 TPS (threat per second) not including crits. Resists will factor in, but over 150 seconds (100 casts, 6% miss, my current and its not too bad) appx. 6 will miss resulting in 10,800 lost threat out of a potential 180,000, meaning 169,200. Over the 150 seconds you spent casting those the 169,200 results in a grand total of 1128 TPS. That is enough to hold aggro off any DPS up to 1612 DPS if they have salv.
In my opinion this trade is well worth it given the added range can make or break grabbing him before he kills someone else. Curse of Doom is nice but its nice to have searing pain at the ready at all times.

In addition to the normal tanks, you should have at least one Warlock with the
Infernoweave "set"
and other Fire Resistance gear to tank Leo during his Demon Phase (a Mage with the proper gear may be able to do it since they also have the benefit of
Fire Ward
, but Warlocks have
Searing Pain
to generate extra threat). The Warlock tank can hold aggro while still staying out of melee range; if a regular tank were holding aggro during the Demon Phase, Leo's Fire AoEs would keep hitting the melee DPS.
He goes into a Berserk state 10 minutes after he's released from Banish; when Berserking, his damage increases by 500% and his attack speed increases by 150%. If he's not down in 10 minutes... it's not gonna be pretty.
First, mark the Warlock tank(s) so that your healers can quickly and easily change targets. After you've taken out the Broken that were keeping him Banished, drag Leo to an open area (the section of cave right before his starting location works well most of the time). Ranged DPS and healers should stand as far as possible from Leo without hindering their performance, while melee DPS might want to stand back while Leo's in Human Form (explained later); the Warlock tank should stand apart from the other ranged DPS in preparation for their tanking session.
During the Human phase (which lasts for 45 seconds), Leo hits for about 2.5k-3k on Plate, and he does a 12-second Whirlwind (this is why melee DPS needs to stand back) about every 15 seconds or so during which he moves around the room in random directions. Each hit does ~3k initial damage (before Armor reduction), and puts a 15-second Bleed on the affected person that does 2.5k every 3 seconds; most people are going to need some healing to keep from dying to the Bleed. The Warlock tank should put Curse of Doom on him during this phase.
After 45 seconds, Leo switches to his Demon Form; each phase change is an aggro wipe, so DPS needs to stop so the tank can pick up aggro (Hunters using
Misdirection
can make the phase transitions a bit easier). The Warlock tank should start spamming Searing Pain to build threat, while the melee DPS moves in. During this phase, Leo attacks with
Chaos Blast
: a Fire AoE spell that does 150 damage and applies a 45-second debuff that increases Fire damage taken by 1675; what's worse, the debuff stacks up to 20 times. Since the Warlock tank holds aggro from a distance, he/she is the only one who gets hit by the blast; if this were done with a normal tank, melee DPS would be getting hit repeatedly by the blasts.
About 15 seconds into each Demon phase, Leo spawns up to 5
Inner Demons
. Each Inner Demon is linked to one player (never the person with aggro); the person it's linked to is the only one who can kill (or target, for that matter) it. They have about 11k health, but they take much more damage than normal and they aren't immune to CC. Inner Demons need to be killed as soon as possible; if they're left alive when the next phase starts, they Mind Control the person they're linked to for 10 minutes; and there's NO way to remove it!
After 1 minute in Demon Form, Leo reverts to his Human Form. The pattern continues until his health drops to 15%. At this point, his forms seperate; Demon Form at full health, Human Form still at 15%. Have a tank pick up the Demon Form and tank it away from the rest of the raid (you don't need to kill it, you just need to keep it from setting everyone on fire) while everyone else opens up on Leo. No more Inner Demons are summoned at this point; you can put all of your focus into bringing Leo down.
If you have more than one Warlock, consider putting a Soulstone on the Warlock tank (chances are you'll only have one) so that you have some leeway with the Demon Phase if something goes wrong; having one Warlock tank that can stay in the fight for a long time is more effective for your DPS than having multiple backup Lock tanks. Also, as wuhihi said, you can reset the fight by running back the way you came; Leo will go back to his starting point and the mobs that were Banishing him will respawn.

Duo'd by a Feral Druid (T10 251) and a Holy Paladin (T9 232). Almost definitely not soloable. Did it without any special resist gear, just the 130 resist from the Paladin aura.
The human phase isn't a big deal, but we wiped several times on the demon phase. Mostly because we didn't realize how much damage would be taken. But when we sorted out that the paladin should just spam Divine Light once the tank had 10+ stacks, it went smooth.
For human phase, we just stayed in for the whirlwind. Wearing plate was enough to keep the damage reasonable, and it meant that we could keep dpsing without him going out of range.
For demon phase, the healer ran out, and tank just kept going. Popped barkskin (20% damage reduction for 12s, available every 1min, so always up), and possibly Enrage (extra reduction from the T10 bonus).
Inner demons were easily one-shotted by Holy Wrath (something like 11k hits). After the demon comes out is a good predictor of when the tank needs to be spam healed. (It is slightly after, but good enough)
Enrage timer was easy to beat with 4.5kdps.
The last 15% was a bit of a challenge, I tried to save berserk for it. You also get some 'free' dps time when he summons his inner demon.
The other real trick is that with only melee dps, the last phase is a bit tricky. You want to group up for WW so that he doesn't move out of range, but you want to stay apart for Chaos Bolt so that the debuff doesn't stack up. I don't remember exactly what we did, but I remember I was at about 10% health when he died.
If you could stand just right so that you would be *just* out of range for chaos bolt, then he wouldn't move a lot for WW, and you would avoid double-stacking the debuff.

I just soloed this guy on my 85 hunter, average iLevel 346, with a Spirit Bond BM spec with the Hunter vs Wild talent and a Spirit Beast.
I FD'ed during every demon phase to avoid chaos blast, and nuked him during elf phase. When he split, I used a Spirit Mend macro on myself and nuked him as much as I could without dying, then FD'ed and waited for the chaos blast debuff to expire, using the time to heal through Spirit Bond and Spirit Mend. When he had about 100k left, I got out of FD and popped all cooldowns, burning him down quickly before the chaos blast debuff had time to stack up.
Left SSC happily with 250g and a pair of T5 gloves.

I was in an average item level of 353, with a mix of 359 rep gear, 352 PVP gear, and 346 heroic/justice points gear. During the elf phase tank and spank everything, the whirlwind doesn't really hurt anymore. During the demon phase blow all your short cooldowns, and rotate your long cooldowns. Always save your cooldowns for the end of the phase when he does more damage. Stop DPS at 16% and wait for a demon phase to start, then you phase elf phase with the demon attacking you too, if you're and idiot like me you'll have 30 stacks of the demon phase debuff up and... have a very hard time. blow all your cooldowns and good luck!

Just solo'd this boss as a level 85 BM Hunter using a Spirit Beast pet. It was quite tricky and I died two times before understanding completely what to do. First, I speced a normal BM spec like:
http://www.wowhead.com/talent#cfhfckGzRRofMZc:zoscVzMz0
with my pet speced like this:
http://www.wowhead.com/petcalc#mbd00fc0zhoo
Putting my spare points into Wild Hunt and Shark Attack.
Then I made a macro that looked like this:
#showtooltip Spirit Mend
/cast Spirit Mend
and binded it to a button that's easy to reach.
The tactics themselves are very easy, you camo in to Leotheras and kill the channelers, then he's set loose and you MD him to your pet, and keep as much distance as you can while still being on the platform he's located on. While in elf form, you DPS him as usual, however, don't pull BW since you'll need it for p2. When he spins around and you feel like he's hitting you a lot, just use the macro, the CD on Spirit Mend is 28s so you can use it liberally.
Now the part that took some time figuring out starts and that's when he turns into a demon you have to pull BW, Mend pet and then Feign Death, then you target your pet and keep him up with his Spirit Mend ability and Cower and wait for the boss to turn back to an elf. Rinse and repeat this until he reaches about 15% when he will split and you're gonna fight both the demon and the elf at the same time. During this phase your pet will take some more damage so you have to be careful of having him on 100% when this starts then just keep him up the same way described above. When he reaches around 200k hp you can stand up and pull all your CDs and start Kill Shotting and bam he's down.
He dropped 3x t5 tokens (duh) and something else that I can't remember and 250g, but just the fun of soloing this boss that my guild used to have problems with was reward enough for me.

If you didn't clear the patrol in the hallway behind Leotheras, be careful you don't accidentally aggro them. I was a few seconds into phase 2 and didn't realize how far back I moved and wiped.

Soloed as a level 85 feral Druid, 366 item level in my normal DPS gear, but I used a Bloodied Leather Helm and Bloodied Leather Bracers with fire resist enchants (from Kirin Tor and Leatherworking fur lining). I also used a Flask of Lesser Resistance, which altogether gave me 242 fire resistance with Mark of the Wild.
What makes this fight difficult, as you probably know, are the demon phases. Even with this much resistance (I will probably get more for the next time), most of the Chaos Blasts hit me. I mostly took between 1/3 and 1/2 of the damage. I was able to survive the demon phases by juggling my cooldowns.
For the first one, I used Frenzied Regeneration and Barkskin after he cast Insidious Whispers. For the second, I used Survival Instincts and Barkskin a few seconds after the Insidious Whispers, to reduce the biggest hits. I pushed him below 15% a few seconds after he started the third demon phase, at which point, I used Berserk and mangled the hell out of him. Frenzied Regeneration was also up again at this point, and I used that after the damage started getting high.
I ended up killing him and dying at the exact same time.

I have a question. It's not very clear to me in the tips about what to do in his final phase when he splits. I tried to solo him earlier tonight. When I got to that phase I noticed his elf form had his health when he went to that phase (around 5%) and the demon form had a full health bar.
Am I supposed to just stay on the elf, kill the demon first, or time it so they both die together?

Elf phase is relatively simple. Keep Bloodthirst on CD and keep Demoralizing Shout up on the boss.
Demon phase is a bit more difficult, but not too bad. I used Heroic Leap on CD during this phase to avoid a couple extra stacks of the debuff + get a tick from a bandage. I had to use Rallying Cry + Enraged Regeneration after the first (and only full) demon phase.
The second demon phase started just before I got him to 15%. Get Demoralizing Shout up, blow all CDs, and nuke the crap out of the elf. I actually died at the exact same time as I killed him, but I didn't save all of my offensive CDs for the final phase. Save Recklessness and all of trinkets/pots for 15%. You can use Death Wish at the start and it will be up for the final phase if you are specced into Intensify Rage. Kill took just over 4 minutes.

As a hunter, I had trouble getting him down after the split. Stayed feigned for each demon form, when he started getting low I'd bandage on a transition to be at full health for the split. Problem was, he likes to launch into a whirlwind immediately after the split, so he was in my face while Chaos Bolts were tearing me up, and couldn't get him down even with glyphed Kill Shot.
Ended up being MUCH easier as BM, once the debuff started getting too hot, I simply stayed feigned for the rest of the fight. Tenacity pet with the usual bonus talents and manually using cooldowns had no problem staying alive and finished it with plenty of time left on the enrage.

Solo'able as an 85 disc priest (ilevel 371 gear).
Obviously a talented inner fire is highly useful, as it mitigates damage in Leotheras's human and demon forms.
A few notes:
1 - Human (elf, technically) phase is a joke. He can't even bust out a power word: shield in the 15 second duration. Just let smite spam heal you.
2 - Demon phase starts easy but gets mean fast. A prismatic potion (+90 fire resistance) is veeeery helpful. I didn't use the Drums of Forgotten Kings (another +52 fire resistance), but that would be helpful as well. Save your cooldowns for the later part of the demon phases when you're taking +35k damage per fireball (which he chain casts).
3 - At 410k health or so he transitions to phase 2. I made the mistake of hitting this right after a demon phase so the demon appeared and began chain-casting me with those painful fireballs. It was all I could do to keep myself up. Fortunately I had saved every one of my cooldowns for phase. I needed them and still managed to kill him with less than 6000 mana left.
A better way of doing this would be to not go into phase 2 until the chaos bolt stacks expire. That way you can get a lot more blasting time in before he starts hitting you with the mega-painful fireballs. It's doable either way, but it's a lot less dicey if they expire first.

Soloed as a tank hybrid spec feral druid in full 371 PvP gear (359 PvP wep)
Buffs used: Mark of the wild, prismatic elixir with mixology for 202 all resist
For elf phases, stay in cat and burn him as hard as you can.
For demon phases, RUN AWAY. It is possible to outrange the chaos blast effect. You can use the demon phases to heal up a bit by using stampeding roar and rejuv/lifeblooms.
For the 15% demon/elf split, blow all your dps cooldowns and tear into him. Use stampeding roar / dash to try and outrange the chaos blast effect when berserk runs out. Also, use survival instincts if the chaos blast stacks beyond 10.
Good luck, this is not an easy solo.
As of the Mists of Pandaria prepatch, the spec/gear/buff information is outdated.
The rest of the information still applies, minus lifebloom as a feral or guardian.

This is a really simple boss if you're a MM hunter. No kidding, I was reading these guides and was really stressed but, in the end I chuckled at how easy it went.
Phase 0 (?)
Pewpew the 3 mobs banishing the boss, and when the third one is dying, position your pet to stay at a corner, or in a spot that allows you to dps at max range (Highly recommended to clear the mob pack at the camp). Then kill the 3rd mob and immedialy MD your pet and do as much burst as you possible can - Just use your cooldowns - they will be back when you need them again. Save Readiness though, VERY useful panic button for an emergency deterrence/FD.
Phase 1
When Leotheras casts whirlwind, if he comes at you, just eat the damage, it's nothing huge and can be healed with 2-3 Chimera Shots.
Phase 2
When he goes to demon form, just Feign Death. In a MM spec with a turtle pet I found out that my pet could stay above 90% health for the whole demon phase (1min) without any problems. That way you'll also take ZERO damage from the fireballs (I've been reading comments here, from other hunters too that tell how hard the fireballs hit). Just stay feigned til' he goes to human form again, and do the same thing as in P1.
Phase 3
When Leotheras is at 500k-ish, you should have your readiness and rapidfire off cooldown.
Pop a last misdirect on your pet, pop your cooldowns and nuke him as fast as you can.
In fact, I actually killed him BEFORE p3 even STARTED!
Phase 4
Collect loot
TL;DR
Human form, tank and spank, eat the whirlwinds.
Demon form, stay feigned, your turtle/beetle wont go below 75%.
Last phase, nuke like fist of the north star when boss reaches 500k hp.
Syluxx, Executus, EU.
(P.S If someone cares, my PvE iLvl is somewhere around 365. Doable with lower gear, though.)
(P.P.S Don't worry about this boss, I found him to be the easiest along with Morogrim.)
*Just noticed you can go to max shooting range during demon phase and dps him without getting hit)

Did it as prot in ret gear.
Elf is simple.
Had to split DR reductions and shields on chaos blast stacks, you can range them but it's iffy.
195 FR
Burn hard, hard, hard on P2.

Easily soloable as an 85 Moonkin.
Elf Form in phase one is nothing special. You can even stand in his Whirlwind and continue DPS'ing until Demon Form. Once he goes Demon Form start HoT'ing yourself and DoT'ing him while running in a big circle. You can cut back on how many Chaos Blast debuffs you receive in the phase by a considerable amount by ranging him, forcing him to move instead of cast. Ideally you want to end phase one while he is in Elf Form and your Chaos Blast debuffs are preparing to fall off.
Phase 2 starts at 15%. Just stay on the Elf Form and ignore the Demon Form. Use Starfall, Treants, and Barksin. This phase ends quickly and shouldn't be a threat unless you have a large amount of Chaos Blast debuffs. He does a short animation where he is splitting into the two forms for this phase and so you will actually have him less than 10% before the Demon Form even starts casting.

Easily Soloable by a 375 ilvl Shadow Priest. His melee attacks hit for around 2k, which is nothing, Whirlwind is a joke. Leave all of your cooldowns for the last phase, use your PWS everytime when it's off CD. Easy fight.

Solo'd as a Blood DK.
I know, I know, Blood DKs are soloing machines, but this guy is quite the issue.
ilevel 360-- using JP gear and a couple 365s as well as the Tanking Valor Bracers, weapon is Jelik's Smasher.
Elf form is a joke. Death strikes meant that this phase actually got my HP up.
Demon form: I tried just popping CD's to live thru the onslaught, but I found a much better solution: Kite him around the room using Bone Shield's speed boost-- once I started kiting the demon form, I didn't get hit by Chaos Blast-- so no stacking debuff. Of course, the room was cleared beforehand.
Final Phase: Popped Army. Started with AMS to stave off the debuff for a few extra moments afterward, and brought out Vamp Blood/IBF to keep myself up... at the end, I did end up using the free Rune Tap from WotN right before the end.

Soloed this as a Hunter was easy, just clear the trash around his area and when in Demon Form simply go out of range enough so that you do not get hit by Chaos Bolts and so your still able to do Damage too him this way you do not have to FD until he releases his form back to normal
Now on the ending phase where he splits, make sure you gain aggro with your pet on both the Demon and Leotheras and maintain distance with both of them being tanked by pet and finish Leotheras off and its a easy money / token

Solo'd as a feral druid at 85 with item level of 394.
Fairly easy first phase, just eat all his damage and lay into him as much damage as you can before the first phase 2. Once he hit phase 2, I hit dash and ran as far away from him around the big pillar in the middle of the room as I could. If you keep him travelling and LOS'd you shouldn't get more than maybe 8-10 stacks of the Chaos Bolt debuff. Once dash runs out, shift out and hit all your instant hots, then back into cat and ferocious roar to gain a little extra distance on him. As a last resort, go bear and pop defenses (SI, Frenzied Regen, etc). Once he goes back to human phase heal up to a comfortable level and then just pound on him until he goes phase 3 (and subsequently dies). Make sure you can lay enough damage to NOT see a second demon phase or you may have trouble.

Soloable by a normal DS-geared elemental shaman. Beat him up through elf form, then just RUN when he turns into a demon. You can kite him around and only get 8-9 stacks of the debuff by the time he turns back. Heal up, then start nuking him again. Because I didn't want to catch him splitting just after a demon phase, I let him demonize twice, then popped him after my stacks had disappeared and blew him up. Used Fire Elemental but he got killed after both Leos became active.
In case any casters come reading here prior to doing his trash, that's the hard part; the Skulkers kick, which is not fun when almost all of one's spells are in the school you are likely to be casting at the time. Definitely hex/kill those buggers first and then take care of the others. The shaman mobs' elementals can be easily one shot by of course killing the Water Elemental Totem.

Warning!
At 15% Leotheras the Blind (humanoid) will go into a bit of some roleplay to summon Shadow of Leotheras (demon). Normally, you kill the humanoid and the demon will despawn. However, if the humanoid is killed before the demon is summoned, you will kill the boss, but the demon will not despawn unless it itself is killed. Considering it has over 2 million HP and deals increasing damage, it is very very hard to kill.
TL;DR Let him summon Shadow of Leotheras before killing him.

Just soloed as a 396 Ret Paladin (Argeltal - Illidan), I really don't know how to do this fight as it was intended long ago. I used Seal of Truth for the whole fight:
Phase 1, Human Form, Devotion Aura, used WoG on cooldown, with 3x Holy Power.
Phase 2, Demon Form, Resistance Aura, used WoG on cooldown, and Divine Protection at 10 stacks.
Phase 3, Both human and Demon Forms up at once...killed human form. I ended the fight at around 40% HP.
If your gear isn't as good and you are having trouble staying alive, I'd recommend using Seal of Insight for Human Form. The reason is: youll have full HP when you go into phase 2, allowing you to live longer. In phase 2, casting heals isn't viable, so save your DPS cooldowns to get him through it as fast as possible. If all else fails, Bubble to drop stacks. LoH is an "Ok" option, but remember, you'll still have all those debuff stacks, so your full HP bar will get burned through faster.

Just solo'd this guy and thought I'd share what I learnt for those that haven't done this before. Plenty of good advice here - ignore the braggers :P
BM spec hunter with beetle pet, lvl 85 & 372 gear. (Post Haste, Blink Strike & Spirit Bond talents - Animal Bond, Mending and Misdirection glyphs)
Clear all trash and patrol in the corridor to next room. Once the three controllers/summoners around Leo are down, Kill Command (KC) and Blink Strike (BS - if talented, I'd recommend it) to give pet aggro, Misdirect on your pet and follow usual rotation (use Misdirect liberally to avoid getting aggro - if you do get aggro, Disengage & Misdirect should drop it).
In phase two (Leo takes on demon form same as warlock demon form) KC, BS & Mend Pet then Feign Death - don't worry about your pet... he'll live, trust me :)
As soon as Leo is back in human (elf :P) form, Mend Pet, KC & BS + normal rotation (you may have to do last two steps twice depending on dps & gear).
At 15% health (ish) he'll become unattackable, & delivers a short monologue after which you'll have both forms up (human & demon) - concentrate on attacking his human (elf) form. If you get focused on by his demon form - Mend Pet & Feign Death. Don't worry, your pet will handle it...
All being well, you'll have a dead boss to loot :)
If you haven't done this before, don't worry if it takes a few tries... you're probably not doing anything wrong, it can just take a couple of attempts to get the timing right and get used to the different phases :)
Good Luck & happy huntering...
Peace.

Just in case you think you're clever and decide to kill the demon instead of the elf after he splits, nothing actually happens. The fight does not end until the elf dies.

Please don't vote me down for complaining. I'm not. I've been been running this weekly since November-ish 2013. I'm after the Coral Barbed Shoulderpads for transmog. The loot table states they have a 19% drop rate and I've yet to see them drop. Is there a chance they've been removed? I'm certain I've gotten every other loot item at least once. Even the 1% patterns. Ugh. Can anyone confirm this drop in the last few months?

Not sure if intended but I rolled in fully expecting to fight 3 phases. I smashed him with my semi-pvp geared (475) Shadow Priest and he just died after the first phase? lol Had some lingering dots on him during the end so maybe he just poofed**** died? anyway. Was wondering if anyone else experience the same thing.

Strangely, if you kill the elf form fast enough after the 15% event, you get the loot and don't save to the instance, allowing you to exit and reset. O.o

Favorite moment in WoW: we were raiding Leo as our current progression boss. One of our Shaman healers had a really hard time killing his Inner Demon and hence would often get perma Mind Controlled.
On one wipe, when we ran out to reset the right, our MC'ed Shaman reset with Leo! We were standing out of range, out of combat, and yet the Shaman was still standing right there next to the boss like a guardian, still mind controlled, still hostile to us, and uncontrolled by the player.
We laughed and laughed. I've never seen anything like it before or since.
We obviously didn't want to start the fight with him on the other team, so we tried warlock-summoning him over to us (which requires interaction from the player, not the character). That worked, except he was *still* MC'ed and went to run back to his position. Also, his proximity to us immediately aggroed the boss, and another hilarious wipe ensued.
He learned how to kill his Inner Demon after that. :-)

impossible to solo as 80-90 unless you have some sort of immunity to deal with his fire damage stacking.
Once it gets up to 4 stacks or so you just drop dead.
