Dar'Khan, an undead high elf, is the antagonist of The Sunwell Trilogy manga series.

You can beat him two ways.
First, you can pull the Necromancers near him one at a time with a ranged attack, as long as you stay out of his aggro range, then solo him in the room which gives you a lot more space to move...
Or you can apparantly pull him out of the room on his own with the same method and beat him upstairs.

You should also note that the Blood Elf racial "Mana Tap" can be used to pull the surrounding mobs.

Although not easy, this guy is soloable by hunters. As a lvl 20 hunter and after a couple of attempts I managed to get him down. First off clear the bottom and middle room (do it quick, as you'll need the time before respawns come). Just tank with the pet and mend pet should keep pet up. At a point (for me it was around 50% health) he began to fear the pet. He still attacked it though, but pet couldnt generate aggro so after a while he went for me. Just kite him around in the middle room, keeping serpent sting on him and use immolation trap whenever off CD, and he should go down before respawns.

Warlocks can solo this somewhat well if they know the class somewhat well, and have 4+ soulshards on hand. After clearing his guards/luckily pulling him alone, open the fight with your Voidwalker (Succubi don't work for this strategy), have him use Torment 2-3 times. Then use your orb/sword. If you pull aggro or if your Voidwalker is below 1/3 HP, Sacrifice and Re-summon your Voidwalker. Do this right after using the item, because the silence effect will prevent Dar'khan from fearing you, which will interrupt the summon. Beyond that, tank and spank, Sacrificing/Re-summoning at low HP.

Not sure if this has been changed, but I was in a 5-man and it wasn't terribly easy even with 5, nevermind solo'ing. Not sure of group composition, though. Might've had a few lower levels along. The respawn inside the building was *very* fast. Hard to imagine not having re-pops if trying to do this alone.

Just soloed him as a 20 warlock. Pulled him without pulling the two mobs on his sides and just kited him with corruption and CoA. Had my voidwalker on him but it didnt do much. I had a respawn at like 8% but was able to finish him and crap the quest item.

I just soloed him as a level 20 paladin. My gear was quite decent, but not superb. I was also heavily buffed via scrolls and the
Goldenmist Special Brew
, but it really did seem too easy. Considering the nature of the quest (5-man, level 21 elite), it makes me wonder if they've nerfed this mob recently.
The advice to pull the caster mobs up into the hallway first, with Mana Tap, worked perfectly. It definitely makes it much easier if you can take this guy alone in the room. I had to jump up onto the stone railing to reach them, but that's not difficult.
It was a relatively lengthy fight. I saved Hammer of Justice for his fears. Mana Tapped every time it came up. Bubbled once, and had to use Lay on Hands. I also used one of the Coarse Stone Statues from Jewel Crafting. He doesn't hit very hard at all, and his casts are quite slow. It's very easy to heal in this fight - pushback is barely a problem.
And now that I think about it, I completely forgot to use the
Sunwell Blade
, or the Scourgebane
Draught
/
Infusion
. Both would have also helped.

You only need a 2 man group if u kill the necromancers and their pets first and then use the items from the previous quest on him. this quest gives pretty nice items for twinks.

If you're doing this at Lvl 20 or so, it might not be a bad idea to bring a Priest if you can find one. A L20 Priest should've just learned Fear Ward and will get a chance to use it situationally here for the first time. Makes the encounter a lot easier.

omg found on my nearly forgotten level 21 warlock the head of Dar'Khan Darthir. lol I forgot to turn it in. I remember now at level 17 I paired up with a level 60 something Orc Mage and fallowed through the quest with ease, but for some retarded reason I never turned Dar'Khan's head in that is till just now! I took that staff it's real nice.

This is a moderately hard guy to defeat but is doable with a dps tank and a good healer. Me and a friend pulled this off as a 20 rogue and a 20 pally. Much easier with a group of 5 but are in short supply in the Ghostlands.

As of 2.4.3 patch, he can be pulled alone directly, don't bother with the 4 adds.
Clear the bottom level of the temple before pulling, so you can kite him in a circle if needed.
When he starts casting
Shadow Bolt
, just cut a corner and bandage. Make sure you interrupt his
Corruption
, or you can't bandage.
Don't fight near his original spot, or you have a high chance to get the adds on you, especially during his
Fear
.
That being sad, he can relatively easy be 2-maned or even soloed. I just killed him with a party of 19 hunter and 20 rogue. Oh, and yeah, we did it without using the quest item on him, dumb us forgot to use it :), I guess its even easier with the quest item.
No way you need 5-man as the quest suggests, unless you want to storm the place and handle tons of adds :P

This guy is the main villain in a trilogy, seemingly immortal, commanding a part of the Scourge, with seemingly unlimited power.
It took the combined power of the Sunwell itself, Tyrygosa and her mate Kalecgos to finally defeat (destroy?) him.
And here he is, as a level 21 elite...
_
Of course there are gameplay factors to take into account ("have" to be in a starting-zone, Blood Elf lore etc) but seeing such a badguy being reduces to this? It's like creating a level 15 version of Ragnaros!
Anyway, for making this comment relatively useful in any way.. he was "easily" (edit) duo:d by a 16 paladin (me) and a 20 hunter. healing the pet as long as possible, and using the 500 dmg silencing sword

The quest log is misleading, theres no way this is a level 21 5 man. Tried soloing him as a lvl 19 Ret Pally, he feared me into the reaspawned adds upstairs after I got him to about one third health remaining and I died. Leveled later, trained Exorcism and Flash of Light etc. and grouped with a well geared level 17 hunter. I tanked him with the Sunwell Blade and the Reforged Crest shield, for any pally it shouldnt be difficult to keep threat with RF and keep yourself healed, Lay On Hands is good for emergencies if you nearly hit 0. The adds in his room respawned mid-fight, but the hunter and his pet didn't take long in dealing with them. He did fear us upstairs and we had to deal with those adds as well, his fear is very difficult to interrupt as the blade/orb use CAN be resisted and his fear is a very quick cast. I wouldn't recommend anybody soloing this until at least level 23, although it would probably be easy enough for 2 lower levels of any class; if a pally isn't tanking you probably won't get very far if one of you isn't a healer however.

Cleared the room by pulling with Exorcism.
Started out with using
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=22783
and then switched back to my normal weapon which had more DPS. Kept Exorcism on cooldown. Hammer of Justice, followed by Judgement of Light.
Used line of sight to get out of his Shadowbolt and Corruption.
Used Arcane Torrent if I wouldn't make it in time going line of sight.
If you take damage, heal the second you go out of line of sight.
If needed, use Healing Pot. Lay on Hands when low hp and divine protection. (Hand of Protection doesn't help)
Hope it helps.

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=24226
. as a pally, all you need to do is keep up the lvl 20 AOE, use judgement of wisdom when you are at low mana, and keep one of your judgements up at all times. when at low health, bubble heal, or lay hands. this was easy if i kept myself healthy. i didnt even have the quest to kill him, and no scourgebane potions. i think he may have been seriously nerfed recently.

soloed him at lvl 24, as a holy priest, didnt use the orb to slience him to or clear the bottom room. I didnt see any way to clear it wothout pulling him, but his second fear sent me down an to both sides pulling all of the mobs down there aswell. I managed to survive all of them by keeping shield and renew up the whole time, and wanding him down to save mana. Took about 4-5 minutes to down him, and had to clean up the rest of the mobs after.

Random experience I had with Dar'Khan: I was running through the Ghostlands for the exporation achievement (Alliance Paladin, 70 at that time) and I thought of passing by Dar'Khan.
I rode past a small group of Blood elves, (level 17, 16 and 14, if I recall correctly) who were talking between themselves in Orcish (no doubt discussing strategies to beat this guy). I passed by (Vashj being a PvP server and two of them backed off: Their PvP flags were up for a reason. I ignored them and went in before Dar'Khan. Bored as I was, I didn't feel the urge to gank anyone, so I waited until the third one, 16 Blood Elf mage ran in. The others fell in soon, their PvP flags still up, but I pointed at them, and then pointed at him.
The mage probably felt I was of good intentions, so she pulled up a fireball and blasted it at Dar'Khan. Once he was tapped, I moved in, crushing him with a Crusader Strike on the spot. The adds came in (possibly aggroed by one of the three questers), but I jumped on them, and hit my Divine Storm.
One of them (Flagged) died instantly, so I sticked by until he came back. He rezzed and looted Dar'Khan's corpse. I then /begged them (wanting them to keep my presence secret from any bloodthirsty 80 near Silvermoon, and they just /nod and /thanks.
It was rather fun...

From Wowwiki.com:
Dar'Khan Drathir was a member of the Convocation of Silvermoon during the Second War. When warned by Alleria Windrunner of the potential threat of an alliance between the Horde and the Amani forest trolls under Zul'jin, Dar'Khan scoffed and believed that they would not be able to get past the Runestones that protected the borders of Eversong Woods.
As a magister of Quel'Thalas, Dar'Khan used the Sunwell to help construct the cities, shape the land, and attain whatever the high elves desired. He was also a friend of future Regent Lord Lor'themar Theron. Lack of recognition for his part in these glorious deeds, coupled with his own egotistical nature, pushed him down a dark path and he began to secretly develop his own magics, as well as an obsession with the Sunwell. Frustrated by a lack of progress, Dar'Khan was elated when Prince Arthas reached out to aid him, and pledged his loyalty to the despoiler of Lordaeron.
Manipulated and strengthened by his "Blessed Lord", it was his friendship with Lor'themar that allowed Dar'Khan to help Arthas and his army slip through the Quel'Thalassian defenses, slaughtering his own comrades in the process, all the while believing that Arthas was helping him to fulfill his desire for the Sunwell's power. While he battled his fellow magi for control of the Sunwell, Arthas used it to revive Kel'Thuzad, destroying it in the process.
Ashamed of his failure and unaware of Arthas' role in the destruction, Dar'Khan was sent to track down where the remaining magic had gone.
The Sunwell Trilogy
Dar'khan assaulting Quel'Thalas.Following years of fruitless searching he finally neared his goal, detecting the Sunwell's presence near a peasant girl named Anveena Teague, who had also drawn attention from members of the Blue Dragonflight. Dar'Khan, now skilled in necromancy and commanding Scourge forces, attempted to capture her and ascertain the power's whereabouts. After failed attempts at her home and again in Tarren Mill, he finally came to the realization that she was, in fact, an Avatar of the Sunwell's power in humanoid form. Kidnapping her in Alterac Mountains and spiriting her to the ruined lands of Quel'Thalas, now known as the Ghostlands, he confronted her with the truth of her existence.
Dar'khan is destroyed.Dar'Khan then attempted to cast a spell which would allow him to absorb the energies from her, however with the aid of her allies, Anveena manifested the Sunwell's power and wielded it against him. More lich than a living being, he made a final desperate attempt to drain the energy from her directly, but was unable to withstand its brilliance and was burned away.

ive found that if u have a lvl 35+ in ur group he can aggro only Dar'Khan... you can finish him on the stairs with only a slight chance of agroing the spellcasters. (aggroing him excludes the use of multi-shot which automatically shoots at the spellcasters... thus drawing aggro)

So I was summoned to the Ghostlands by an Alliance raid with my level 20 Night Elf druid. I thought it would be fun to try to kill Dar'Khan, so I came to his lair. I killed both Necromancers, then opened with a Starfire (~500 crit) and started spamming Wrath (~210 each, 300+ on crits). My druid had about 1100 health, so I used Wrath a number of times before I was down to low health. I used a Healing Touch, and by this time he was down to about 800 health, so I viciously nuked him with Wrath and killed him. The whole process took about 35 seconds. Amazingly, he didn't use Fear during the whole encounter. This was very easy, no need to run around like some others do.
I used standard blue gear with a level 40 green hat, all enchanted with +spell power and +spell crit (explains my ridiculous DPS at this level).

I solo'd this quest today as lvl 22 Frost Mage. No heirloom items and quest greens only. I had Elixir of Minor Fortitude, Bobbing Apple, and Blood Thistle for buffs. Once you get inside Dar' Khans dungeon tomb the trick is to take out all the mobs quickly. There is 1 patrol, 4 summoning casters, and Dar' Khan himself.
Once you kill the patrol shade, quickly kill each summoner, and their minions on both sides of the second level. When you reach the room with Dar' Khan move to the edges of the door way on either side to kill each of the remaining two summoners. They will not aggro Dar' Khan. However, trying to pull Dar' Khan alone will aggro both summoners/minions onto you.
Rest up quickly to ensure the respawns will not cause you problems so it's just you and Dar' Khan. Make sure your Sunwell Blade is armed. Throw a couple of Frostbolts and counterspell him if he tries to Shadowbolt you. Once he is in range use your Sunwell Blade for the 500+ dmg/Silence effect over 5 secs. If you fail to use this blade it will more than likely lead to your death.
Here is where the skill comes into play. Freeze with your Water Elemental or use your own Nova. Kite him up and down the stairwells in a rectangular pattern. Anytime he stops to cast, snare with Frostbolt, and get off a Fireblast. If he is about to cast line of site him. Blink to keep your distance but do not get to far ahead, or he will circle the other way and come from behind. He will focus alot of his corruptions and fear on your Elemental, but it's better him than you. Expect to take a corruption and a fear every now in then. It's hard to use your elementals freeze in this situation, but use it whenever you can while your Nova is on cooldown. Cone of Cold is a very useful snare here too. I'm an herbalist so Life Blood in addition to First Aid saved me as well.
A player in Heirloom items, and green/blue grafted or purchased gear would be able to do this without even kiting. However, if your are not in this situation and have good movement skills you can pull this strategy off. By good movement skills I simply mean you move with your mouse NOT WASD. The spell dmg potion you receive for 10x Spinal Dust would help tremendously as well. This strategy is for Frost Mages with the new talent trees implemented for Cataclysm. As a wise Mage once told me 4 years ago..."If you can snare it, you can kill it". Good luck getting the rare quest staff on your own, and thanks for reading my post.
Please Note: Excuse my post that turned into a book, and also my horrible punctuation/grammar. I'm a wow player not an English Major. I hope this info can help any class who has a pet and is capable of kiting. Warocks and Hunters at lvl 22 have it far easier than a Mage though.

Patch 4.2-- Just took my first attempt at soloing Dar'Khan. I made two fatal mistakes: 1, going in without any mana potions. This is a big one, seeing as I'm a level 21 Pally. (Prot, if that matters). Mistake number two was letting myself get feared away from the chamber he started in. Normally, there are two cultists and two skeletons next to him. When you get feared, you may be taken out of the chamber where he spawns. MAKE SURE YOU RUN BACK DOWN. You may pick up one or two adds on your first Fear, but as long as you can make it back to the bottom room you should be good. I didn't run back, and picked up half of the mobs in the building, leading to my demise.

Solo'd him as a level 19 rogue.
Had to use Evasion but the strat is simple.
Kill all the npcs upstairs and kill the nps around him by using your bow to pull.
Afterwards make sure you've got some bandages and use Recuperate alot!
Ambush him whatever, build up your combo points and then when he casts an induction Line of Sight him. Make sure you're hitting Recuperate everytime it's up, and don't use combo points for Eviscerate. When you're LoSing him Recuperate will do its job, and if you're in dire need pop a bandage and heal while he's trying to get off an induction while you're sitting behind a wall. Repeat everytime he pops those inductions...you don't want to get hit by them.
You should be okay considering Recuperate does its job and you're smacking him everytime he runs towards you.

This quest is one of the hardest ones I've done so far, and since no one was willing to help me, I decided to solo it as a Lvl 20 Demonology warlock.
I spent so much time on that quest and rage quit SO MUCH before I actually managed to do it.
So here's my strategy.
Prime minions to use: Imp and VW.
Prime spells to use: Soulfire, Corruption, Hand of Gul'dan, Fear, Drain Life, Create Healthstone, Dark Regeneration (if possible), Soulstone, and Life Tap
Step by step walkthrough:
1: Use your VW. Kill all mobs on the outer ring of the tower. (both pairs of Eye of Dar'khan and anything that wanders around)
2: Enter the tower. Go one path and kill the mobs on that side. Use Fear if necessary.
3: Now go to the other side and kill the mobs there. If anything wanders around and tries to kill you, just kill it back. Make sure you've destroyed the wandering Wailer and the Eye of Dar'khan before you proceed to Step 4.
4: This is the hard part. Switch to your imp and make sure you can actually see the necromancer or its pet in the circular room where Dar'khan is standing. Then target it and kill it. Be absolutely CERTAIN your imp will not aggro anyone else, ESPECIALLY Dar'khan. Recommendation is to start on the left side outside of the dome and kill the mobs on the right side of the room.
5: Repeat #4, except on the other side of the room. This will be a tad trickier.
6: Now this is the fun part. Switch back to your VW, cast Dark Regeneration, trigger Soulstone, and (sort of) Leeroy into the room. Dar'Khan is immune to your Fear spell, so don't mind wasting mana on it. I was a blood elf while I was doing this, so I used my racial passive Arcane Torrent ability to stop him from casting
his
Fear. If you exit the room while you are Feared, make sure you get close enough to Dar'Khan as possible when it's done. If your VW dies, resummon it immediately. If you're low on mana (which happens a LOT), use Life Tap, but not so much that you're almost at the point of dying. If you die, make sure Dar'khan's returned back to the circular room before using your Soulstone for resurrection. Use your Healthstone if you've got the time.
7: If you beat him, congrats! Take his head and go to Magister Keandris. He'll send you to Lor'themar Theron and you'll be dubbed a hero of the sin'dorei. (If you're not a blood elf, you'll become their best friend.)
P.S. The rewards are worth it!

Best experience I’ve ever had in WoW, soloing this guy in Chromie Time.
I used a Windwalker Monk, level 31.
First I cleared all of the enemies in the tower. They spawn slowly so if you kill all of them quickly you will have a few minutes to work on the boss.
Then I set my spirit teleport on the other side of the tower.
Finally, activate your three elemental form CD, and then start wailing on Dar’Khan. Pop defensive and absorb CDs, and when your health is getting low activate your teleport to give you time to Revitalize.
He is a caster so you can hug walls to avoid spells.
Keep hitting him until your health is getting low and then use your rolls/spins to quickly move around tower so your can restore health.
Finally, when he gets under your max health (for me that was around 4K) you can just Touch of Death him and he goes down.
Breathe out!
Probably even a more amazing experience at level 49!
