The third boss in the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj (if you don't count the optional bug trio).

# Fankriss is very easy to tank. Your 2 weakest tanks, plus 2 decent healers, can keep him under control for the entire encounter.
# By far the most important part of the fight is killing the Spawn of Fankriss wherever they occur. If they are not under good control, they can wipe your entire raid.
# The snakes seem to spawn in groups of 3, one after another. DPS must be very fast on the first snake so that you can get on the second and third snakes quickly. The idea that that a snake will spawn every % of life Fankriss loses after the first one spawns has been proved false, but they do tend to come in groups of 3.
# If a snake goes Enraged it will one-shot anyone it touches. Stunlock it if you can, otherwise kite it until it dies.
# DPS on Fankriss will need to push it as fast as they can. (but save those DPS cooldowns for snakes!) Time is against you in this fight.
# Tank(s) assigned to intercept Snakes should remain in berserker stance while DPS'ing Fankriss. This way they can more easily use Intercept. Hunters can help with distracting shot too. The worms CANNOT be allowed to kill healers. It is recommended to assign 2 healers to snake tanks, snakes deal heavy melee damage when not stunned.
# It is rare but possible that Fankriss teleports one of your Hatchling tanks. When this happens, some hatchlings will probably get out of control. They will need to be DPSed down.
# It is also possible that the Spawn of Fankriss spawns in the suppression room. This can pull extra agro from Vekniss packs. The vekniss bugs will need to be DPSed after the snakes are dead.Suggestion is at the start, one of the hatchling Tanks just AOE taunts and picks up these mobs from the start of the suppresion room avoiding any issue with a Spawn of Frankiss making the add.

Hunter specific tips:
- Assign one hunter to be the snake-spotter
- Have an officer put him in the mt-list for easy assisting
- The snake-spotter needs 2 macros saying:
----------------
/target spawn
----------------
and
----------------
/rw SNAKE! Assist me! (or something similar)
/cast Hunters Mark(Rank x) (dunno if this is the exact way it's supposed to be)
----------------
- The snake-spotter will use the first macro to see if there's any snake around and announce if there is
- Others can nuke as usual and position themselves as close as possible to Fankriss so they can shoot multishot without hiting one of the bug-adds

We dont use warriors as snake tanks as suggested, its upto the rogues to break away from Fankirss and permastun them, so they cant attack.
Our strategy is to pull fankriss to the left hand spawn side, and dps him, 3 warriors are on guard around fankriss to gather up the hatchlings. Generally though, the raid is to far away from the hatchlings on the right hand side to get aggro and they just stand there.
We dont AoE them either, we have the 3 tanks on the hatchlings just tank them all fight, leaving the only thing to do is :
a. Kill Snakes
b. DPS on fankriss
In that order everything should go find.
Also , if you get BigWigs mod, it announces 2 secs before you see it a snake has spawned, making it easier for your rogues to get into posistion

One of the most straight forward fights in AQ40. Fankriss can be tanked by two warriors with one priest assigned to them. 1 tank should also be placed at each of the 3 corners with 1 priest, 1 paladin and 1 druid. The rest of the raid stands close together and DPSs the blue bugs first and then Fankriss. Warlocks and priests should go all out on dots on this fight.
A tank should be assigned to yellow bug duty and a hunter to pull them to the tank. If the worms go into enrage then they should be stunned and killled very fast because your tank can't take more than 2 hits.

Fankriss melees very light on maintanks - no harder than his brother Kurinaxxx. A geared shaman and druid can keep up the MT's on Fankriss easily.
Mortal Wound - Stackable debuff on the MT that reduces healing by 10%. This is a cleave attack so it can hit multiple people in front of him. Rotate him between two MTs to let this wear off. (Very similar in shape, design, and abilities to Kurinnaxx.)
There are 3 "bug tunnels" around the room. Starting shortly after the pull then once every minute or so, each tunnel will spawn 4 Vekniss Hatchlings. With each spawn, one player will be ported and rooted in one of the small alcoves around the room. These bugs hit for 300 on tanks, 800-900 on cloth, and can be snared or feared. They will need to be offtanked for most of the fight.
At random times during the fight, one to three yellow-colored level 63 Elite worms called Spawn of Fankriss will spawn in a random location. They hit for around 2000 on cloth. They will also enrage after 20 seconds if they are not killed. Enraged worms deal 10-20k per hit, one-shotting anybody they're on. They are by far the most important part of the fight, as they must be killed immediately. They can be stunned, so all is not lost if they enrage just before they die.
If for whatever reason Vekniss Hatchlings get loose, they will need to be DPSed down or kited. If it's relatively early in the fight they should be DPSed quickly, but later on in the fight you are better off kiting them with frost traps, fears, anything you can. They cannot be frost novaed, or snared with any frost bolts.

Fankriss the Unyielding Abilities:
- Mortal Wound: stackable cleave debuff reducing healing by 10%
- Spawn Snake: hard hitting snake with 20k hp, every 20-30 secs
- Spawn Hatchling: continuously spawns, 30 spawn cap
:
- Fankriss MT Group moves in and keeps Fankriss in center of the room.
- 3x Hatchling Control Groups get in position on the spawn points. don't move!
- Ranged DPS & Healers STACK near Fankriss, only Hatchling OTs should be off.
- STAND AS FAR AS AWAY FROM THE HALLWAY AS YOU CAN.
Fankriss MT Group: MT, OT, 2x Shaman, and Warlock.
- MT and OT exchange aggro throughout encounter at 3 debuffs.
- Shaman drop beneficial totems while focusing heals on the Tanks.
- Warlock strategically places Imp for Stamina buff and DPS's Fankriss.
3x Hatchling Control Groups: MT, Druid, Priest, Shaman, and Warlock.
- MT spam Demoralizing Shout and alternates target Sunders to maintain aggro.
- Healing demand will grow as more spawns become aggro'd to the tank.
- Warlock strategically places Imp for Stamina buff and DPS's Fankriss.
- Druid and Priest should be sufficient to keep heals, hatchlings cap at 12.
- Shaman delivers totems, and should only be healing Fankriss and Snake tanks.
1x Snake Spawn Control Group: 2x OTs, Priest, Shaman, and Warlock.
- Both OTs await in Berserker stance, ready to intercept Snake spawns.
- Immediately following Intercept - Taunt mob to ensure established aggro.
- Priest and Shaman need to keep both tanks above 85% at ALL times.
- Warlock strategically places Imp for Stamina buff and DPS's Fankriss.
Melee & Ranged DPS:
- Melee stay BEHIND Fankriss to evade cleave attacks.
- SAVE ALL YOUR DPS COOLDOWNS FOR SNAKES, Not Fankriss.
- Upon Snake Spawn, switch FF to them and DPS them down ASAP.
- Hunters wait for Snakes spawns and IMMEDIATELY Distracting Shot them.
Healers:
- Spare Druids, keep all Warriors above 85% hp.
- Spare Shaman, heal currently aggro'd MT and watch Hatchling OTs.
- 1x Priest assigned per MT Warrior. Spares heal currently aggro'd MT.

Mortal wounds: reducing the heal effect on the target by 10%, stacks 10 times.
Not too fancy a list of abilities, as you might gather. But the problem isn%u2019t really him, it%u2019s his kazillion friends that tag along with him.
As far as the tanking goes, it%u2019s not a big deal - the main tank and the off-tank need to play a bit of ping-pong with him in order not to stack the debuff too high, this shouldn't be too hard since he is tauntable.
There are 3 entry points for bugs to massively zerg the raid; place one tank at each exit, their main job is to keep every single bug that comes out of those holes to go straight on them, with a demo shout, if you don%u2019t have enough tanks for this you can use a paladin or a druid.
The paladins can easily keep the spawn at them with the help of consecration and the druid can do the same with demo roar.
There are two types of bugs emerging through those entry points, one of which is the Silithid Drones which are the ones that are supposed to be tanked by tanks at those entry points. The second is Spawns of Fankriss, these should not be tanked by the tanks at the entry points, these should be killed as fast as possible by the dps squad. All the dps should stop attacking Fankriss at that point and concentrate every shred of it on the Spawns, these hit hard really hard and can bring down a cloth wearer in one or two hits; make sure they are immobilized at all times possible via stuns and frostnova or any other things you may think of. We should add they enrage if they aren't killed fast enough, which means they will hit people for 12000 damage each attack which in turn is an instant kill for anyone in the raid.
As long as the Spawns are maintained, the entry points covered the aggro switching between the tanks goes as planned, this should be a walk in the park.

i soloed Skeram and Sartura as feral druid but can't kill neither Bug Trio nor Fankriss. at both events i'm getting almost stunlocked (+ feared at trio) and at the same time Princess heals and Fankriss, to the contrary, kills my selfhealing (plus his spawns enrages while i'm rooted). don't have any ideas about how those guys can be solo killed.
PS stealthed behind Fankriss to Princess Huhuran. mah, she's doing too much poison stacks, even with NR gear pieces (267 NR) thats more than 1k damage every 2 secs. regular 10 sec "asleeps" do not help either.
you can't solo Viscidus, and closed door forbids you from passing Emperors so this is pretty much it for raiding AQ40 all by mighty yourself as it looks like.

Fankriss, much like my fellow bear buddy above me, has caused me quite a lot of trouble. The healing debuff isn't the problem, it wears off at ten stacks, much like the other ugly bug in AQ20. It's getting stunned for five seconds, having a bunch of adds come, and at 2 seconds left, being teleported to another place where you're stunned for another 5 seconds. I'd imagine a Free Action Potion counters it, but... 30 seconds isn't enough.
Only realistic way I see it is trying to pull off the encounter is... to two man it...
Sorry fellas, much like the bug trio, this isn't soloable.

It's soloable as a blood DK with a cookie cutter build that has imp. rune tap, I did it earlier today. Fankriss himself does next to no damage to you (melee swings did 600ish damage). It's the adds that are the issue. Basically the way to win this fight is to kill the adds asap. He will randomly teleport/stun you for 5 seconds, which is only an issue if adds are alive to beat on you during that time.
When the worms spawn they must be killed immediately, as an enraged worm hitting you will do about 3500-4000 damage per swing and kill you rather quickly if stunned. AOE the remaining adds down with diseases. Don't use death and decay as you may get teleported, so the adds will just walk out of it to follow you.
Putting some DPS gear on for this encounter is advisable. Enough defense to be uncrittable is all I equipped, the incoming damage is very manageable if you have enough DPS gear to ensure the adds die quickly.
Much more challenging for a DK than a pally but definitely doable.

Soloed as warrior aswell 0/31/40 spec
its realy tricky, and though i killed the adds asap from first attemnt, it still took me 8 wipes to find the perfect balance between tank and dps gear aswell as hoping for some stun/teleport resisst/misses.
19 minute fight for me
GL to all that attemnting this solo , it IS worth the wipes you probaly will have yust simply dont give up ;)

Soloed this as warrior in raiding fury spec.
Im just simply useing my tank gear in fury spec.
Healing 1k x3 every 4 sec with bloodthirst. - useing glyph of bloodthirst and enrage reg.
Took around 10min. 100% hp at all time, adds were no problem at all.

Ugh this guy is even worse to solo in 4.0 since prot paladins take more damage when soloing. The trade off was taking more damage for a better self heal (Word of Glory), too bad Fankriss makes the self healing part useless, so you are stuck with a nice increase to damage taken.
Basically not much different from 3.3 except you take more damage making it harder, it's just as reliant on the RNG as it was before. I have yet to solo him, but for those curious his mortal wound resets after 10, so after the 10 stacks wear off, use your holy power for WoG until he gets about 4 or 5 stacks back on, or if you hit full HP (Which you probably won't).
Pray he doesn't web you when adds are out, or him calling 3 adds at once, it's most certainly death if it happens.
I haven't played my DK much, but this seems like it would be little easier as one.

Quite easy as an unholy DK with almost full heroic dungeon gear. I used Army of the Dead on him just to be safe but I probably could have done it with just my pet and the gargoyle. Just DPS him. Use pestilence and blood boil when the adds spawn. I killed the worms when they spawned considering that they can hit pretty hard when they enrage. I have 111k HP even with that I couldn't have survived the enraged worms. I did get knocked around once so I backed up against a wall for protection.

Very doable as a BM hunter with a shale spider (wtb worm aoe back), it's not so much a hard fight as an irritating one. Just make sure you take out the worms before they enrage and the more bug adds you can take out the less tanking with your face you have to do when FD isn't up.

Essentially there are only 2 things that can go wrong in the fight as a BM hunter, the worms enrage or you get webbed too far from your pet and it despawns although the latter is a lot more recoverable from than the former.
The only 2 "biggies" I see with your spec links are your pet doesn't have Grace of the Mantis (so it's subject to getting crit) and you have the Raptor Strike major glyph rather than the Misdirection one which virtually takes away the need to be careful with your threat.
Other differences with how I did it are as follows (but not really sure how much of it makes any real difference):
85 BM Hunter (349 ilvl but some pvp gear so say 340-345)
BM tree:
Skipped Imp Mend Pet
Took 1/1 Focus Fire
Skipped Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimera
Took 2/2 Invigoration
Squeaky (my shale spider) also now has his web ability which can be useful for the worms in a pinch.
There's probably lots of ways to do this and there's no "right way", just the 2 things listed above would make your life much easier =)

I should have known better than to try this boss as a Fury warrior. Between the Mortal Strike debuff and the ridiculous nerfs to AoE in 4.0, I don't think this is soloable as Fury.
It is easily soloable as a prot warrior, at least if you're specced into Blood and Thunder.

Soloed as 85lv ret paladin in 340ilv gear. Burn the
Spawns of Fankriss
down as they spawn. Use seal of insight and 3HP WoG to heal often. And try to time your heals when the Mortal Wound debuff is at low stacks.

Soloed with mage frost (healing pet spec) @ 85.
Open fight with mirror images and all cooldowns (bloodlust), and nuke with everything !
Mirror images should disappear at around 40% boss hp.
Last 40% are as "usual" : frost armor, shields rotations, adds kitting/2shot with icelance or procs.
If you feel danger, use iceblock to wait for ice barrier CD => icebarrier => evocation (glyphed).
Remember that we still have the cold snap for multiple icy veins.
EDIT : a clever player suggested to use iceblock during your orb => its still dpsing while getting some mana and cooldowns back ;)
Note that at the end of the fight, the non-killed adds are still there ^^ Don't aggro until you've got your hp/mana back :P

I remember raiding Fankriss back at 60, our raid leader had a rather unusual form of motivation on this fight to get everybody to switch to the snake spawns which proved effective (if not a bit cruel):
If we wiped during the encounter, our raid leader would start spouting off about how the snakes were spawning *because* people were still DPS'ing the boss when the snakes spawn (not because it was actually random), and for every 2% health Fankriss lost while a snake add was up, another snake would spawn.
Needless to say, hilarity ensued when one snake would show up and our raid leader would scream at everybody to stop DPS'ing Fankriss to stop spawning snakes. Everyone who never bothered to look up the fight (read: half the raid) was actually convinced that their fellow DPS'ers were doing a poor job of switching, and got all frustrated at the others ("That hunter doesn't deserve Barb of the Sand Reaver, he never switched to the snakes!") Some would even stop dotting him up for fear of triggering another Snake.
It wasn't until the Burning Crusade expansion that our raid leader had admitted to everybody he was making it all up. But hey, it worked, so I loved it. I know it was mentioned on this page before, but I wanted to reaffirm that people really did actually believe this back then, as raiding back then was simply different (no add-on raid requirements, fresh mechanics, etc).

Just soloed him as a Assassination rogue (33/0/8) with 50% pvp gear. Keep recuperate up at all times, and fok the adds and the snakes down when they spawn. I really recommend taking Improved Recuperate for the damage reduction and the increased healing. Of all bosses this was the hardest to take down.

Very easy to solo as a hunter. Be wary of your pet though, he may get teleported far enough away to despawn. So if Fankriss is attacking you, your pet may be despawned.
I didn't even bother really attacking any adds, I just stood in place, DPSing Fankriss while dropping traps to take care of adds. Never dipped below 90% hp until I didn't realize my pet despawned.

easy to solo as a lock. have voidwalker tank, dps boss, be sure to kill snakes asap, and kill other adds as needed. voidwalker shouldn't really be taking any damage anyway, but there will be time for the debuff to drop off him when he gets teleported.
i did die afterward to an errant snake i didn't see. they hit hard when they enrage.

Just killed him on my Fury Warrior (ilevel 342) just now. Took quite a few wipes but once you really focus on *what* to fight and when, along with being sure to kill things if possible when they come along / freeze you, it's doable for sure. Challenging but quite fun!
Timing can play a big part. If you're frozen for 2-3 rounds at a time and 2 or more gold snakes are up, there's a pretty good chance you're toast as they hit for 4-5k each quite fast. If you can kill the snakes though before you're frozen, it helps a lot ;)

Lots of good comments on this page, but I do have one question that I have not seen answered yet:
What the $@!# IS that thing?
And why can't yer tame it?
Seriously, though the model is currently (as of 4.3) still unique, I believe.
Edit: I was wrong, forgot about

NOTICE TO ALL DRUIDS
Fankriss is soloable for us, atleast for the feral spec'd.
Stealth up to him, pounce, use tigers fury and ravage him. Keep your Shred, Rip, Mangle and Rake up on him and do not use Berserk or Survival Instincts until later. Each time a Spawn of Fankriss appears, focus and kill than thing quick. Your health with fall, but if you spec'd right, every now and than you'll get some healing from a crit. You can also pop out of Cat form and insta-use Healing Touch.
When you deem your health to be too low, pop into bear form and use Enrage, followed by Frenzied Regeneration. When they fade, use Berserk at your indescretion as well as Survival Instinct. The fight will be long, and hard, but it is possible to do.
It took me two tries and I downed him on my second attempt.

I couldn't tell however if it was him who was rooting me or the other Vekniss Hatchlings in the room, but don't worry, the root wears off quick enough so you can continue to attack him. Once again got 220 Cenarion Circle rep at revered.
