This is a relatively straight forward encounter if everyone stays alert. If you are familiar with the Bloodlord Mandokir encounter in Zul'Gurub then you'll have no trouble here. Kurinnaxx will stack an upleasant debuff on your tanks called Mortal Wound which reduces healing by 10%. After 3 debuffs are stacked on your tank, your secondary tank will need to taunt Kurinnaxx off and tank him until your primary tank debuff's have expired. Continue to cycle your tanks throughout the fight. Having your tanks set up a macro to /yell Get this thing off me! is helpful.
Ranged DPS need to be mindful of the Sand Traps which spawn randomly throughout the encounter. They do around 2000 nature damage and also have a silencing effect. Keeping your camera panned out so that you can see forming traps is recommended. Should one form near you, strafe away to avoid damage - backpeddling is too slow and the trap will almost certainly hit you.
At 20% Kurinnaxx enrages, so keep those tanks up when he's near death!

I've never seen any class get away from a sand trap unless they were
1) Already moving
2) Using a speed increase ability like blink or sprint.
A strategy that's not widely used but very easy and effective is having one warrior on Kurinnaxx, and leaving 1 or 2 other raid members with taunt far away. When the debuffs get to 3 or 4 a taunter runs in and taunts. Said "taunter" drags Kurinnaxx in one direction while the original tank darts off in the other. With the time it takes taunt to wear off and Kurinnaxx to get to the original take the debuffs will have reset.
Debuffs are renewed at ~8 seconds, so taunt just before then.
After the kill, 5 NPCs for the Rajaxx event run by, don't speak to them yet.

Kur is a pretty simple fight....they only tricky things that he does is that he will ocassinaly make the ground bubble up in random areas, these "sand bombs" do massive damage(about 1.7 - 2K on my hunter) and silence / reduce hit by 50 for 20 seconds, if this hits your healers....GG. But the bubbles are easy to evade, if you see a bubble forming in or around your area... step out of it! Also, Kur stacks a debuff on the tanks, and they have to cycle through b4 they are 1-hit(i belive you wait for 3 or 4 stacks, then taunt off) Other than that, treat him like a normal mob and tank him around like the punk he is. GL(you won't need it)

Level: Boss
Location: Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj in Silithus
Type: Not specified
Attacks and Abilities
Hits for 800 - 1000 against a tank
Slashes for 800 - 1200
Mortal Wound - Nondispellable stackable Debuff on the MT that reduces healing by 10%. This is a cleave attack so it can hit multiple people in front of him.
Sandtrap - Random sandtraps spawn under player's feet. If they fully erupt before the player can move they take 2000 damage, are silenced and have their chance to hit reduced by 75% for 20 seconds.
Enrage - at 30% health.
Summon - Can summon a player in combat to immediately in front of him.
Thrash - gain 2 more attacks.
Kurinnaxx
His main physical attack is a cleave that will do heavy damage to anyone in front of him. It also inflicts a fifteen second debuff called Mortal Wounds to the tank that reduces healing by 10%,and stacks 10 times, and is not dispellable. so there needs to be a great deal of tank swapping in this fight. Once a tank gets 3 debuffs he stops attacking and the next tank gets aggro from him. This will continue throughout the battle.
He also does an attack called Sand Trap that does around 1900 damage and inflicts a debuff that silences, and reduces hit chance by 75% for 20 sec. so as long as everyone spreads out it prevents more then one person to get hit by the same sandtrap
The off tanks should attack from the side so they can avoid the Mortal Wounds cleave. If you do get hit by a Sand Trap dont stand around waiting for the debuff to expire. Take the opportunity to bandage yourself or drink healing/mana potions.
Casters need to be careful not to steal aggro from the tanks. Tanks will be limited in their ability to gain a lot of aggro by their need to trade off as Kurinnaxx's target.

Strategy 2
Instead of having the tank move around, tanking Kurinnaxx in the center of his room has proven to be an equally effective tactic in defeating him. The strategy requires at least two tanks, but three is recommended as Kurinnaxx will enrage at 30% and begin tearing the plate wearers a new one. The tanking warrior will hold Kurinnaxx's attention until the debuff stacks up to 3. This will give time for the OT to grab aggro before heals become useless for the MT--sometimes Kurinnaxx has so much aggro on the MT that it may take two or three more applications of the debuff before the OT can successfull peel him off (rest assured, when the debuff stacks up to 8, healers are basically wasting mana). Make sure the second tank is building his rage to full until called to take Kurinnaxx, this way he can Taunt and have enough rage to pass the aggro barrier and be the new tank. Keep in mind that Kurinnaxx's aggro barrier is much higher than most bosses; it will take more than Off-Tanks are used to to take aggro off of the Main Tank, but a full rage bar worth of Heroic Strike spam and Sunder spam should do the trick. Rogues can beat away at Kurinnaxx's sides, running THROUGH him in case he spawns a sand trap under himself. Do not backpedal--you won't make it out of range in time.
Alliance Note: If the off-tank simply cannot take aggro, a Paladin Blessing of Protection (BoP) thrown on the Main Tank with less than 10 seconds left on the Mortal Wounds debuff will keep Kurinnaxx off just long enough to let the Mortal Wounds drop off before he gets it back.
General Note: Limited Invulnerability Potions have the same effect as a BoP if Paladins are not available, though only for 6 seconds instead of 10.
Another method is simply to have two tanks fight over aggro the entire fight, applying sunders and essentially trying to be the more macho warrior.
Meanwhile, casters and ranged DPS will surround Kurinnaxx in a loose circle, preferably as far away from each other as possible. This minimizes the chance of sand traps hitting and silencing multiple casters. Should anyone be hit by a sand trap, a single heavy runecloth bandage is usually enough to heal whatever damage you took. Casters should wand while waiting for the silence to wear off. At 30%, any non-healer should immediately blow all their cooldowns to DPS Kurinnaxx down as quickly as possible.
Previous attempts at trying to train Kurinnaxx around in a circle have proved to be difficult for a number of groups. The problems that occur when a boss is constantly moved around generally results in the ranged DPS (and melee DPS/off-tanks) having to keep up with the constant position changes. It is important to note that most healing spells have a range of 40 yards, and offensive spells have a range of 30 yards--it is easy for a tank to simply wander out of range of these spells, or cut the circle too tight and force casters to stay in a very limited battlefield, increasing the chances of multiple casters being silenced by a sand trap. The sand traps actually have a rather impressive radius (perhaps 10-15 yards) and are far more devastating to casters than melee attackers.

A warrior or paladin should be able to solo him. I killed him with a priest (me as warrior), but I took only 16k dammage in a 14 min fight with gear giving me almost passive immunity to crushing blow. The "almost" make the difference i guess. 102.4% avoidance (miss+dodge+parry+block) and 700 block value (i had 800 but 700 should be enough) = almost no dommage. It looks like the Wide Slash attack can still dommage you a bit.
Besides, you can heal yourself regularly. The Mortal Wound stack to 10 but then fade. The boss will of course stack it again but you've got some time with only 10% or 20% reduced healing.
As for the sand traps, just dont stop moving and you will never get hit.
The problem is, you can't solo trashs before without heal. Some of the mobs have a special attack dealing 2k nature damage.

just killed him 4 man, druid ank (me) prot paladin in healing gear (healer obviously), enhance shaman and fire mage
a couple of thigns of note, firstly confirming the debuff stacks to 10, then fades, then starts to be restacked, secondly, the debuff does not affect a druids leader of the pack procs, which were hitting me for over 700, so thats some nice passive healing
if you have a dodge trinket, make sure to pop it when you get to 9/10 debuffs and it shouldn't be too bad
was my first proper fight against him, good fun :)

We did this today with a small guildrun to Ahn'Qiraj. None of us has been here before.
4 characters ranging from 74-80.
On the boss this was pretty tough for everyone except the tanking paladin. 3 casters, as well as the healer we're silenced every now and then for 15 seconds. The sand thingies don't appear randomly throughout the field. They always seem to choose a target. Mostly the healer and almost never the second in aggro.
So I had to heal the casters much more then that tank. Even when the boss became enraged the pally almost took no damage.
Very easy fight. Just watch your own health if you're casting.
Totally soloable.
Would be nice to hear if other people solo'd it with different classes. A warrior perhaps.

Solo'd as a feral druid, 80 in T7/Naxx 10 equiv gear.
Very simple, as described above, just kite to avoid sand traps to make the fight as short as possible. Also, the healing debuff does not affect LotP or Frenzied Regen. Very good way to get the +20 spellpower to a specific spell class enchants, granted that the drop rate is not the best.

Soloable by a warlock, as haunt spec just have your voidwalker tank it and stay below his agro (even when the boss enrages you can outheal his damage with Health Funnel). As of 3.08 frenzied regen is now reduced by the debuff. I'll bet Death Strike and others formally immune are now also included in this.
As a feral druid I simply make sure I keep an eye on the number of stacked debuffs and as soon as I drop below about 70% ill be ready to pop my regen as soon as debuffs stack low (1-3 or so)

As the druid above mentioned, with 3.0.8 abilities like Death strike are now reduced by his healing debuff. What I did was simply mitigate as much damage as I could while fighting him.
The debuff stacks to 10 for 100% reduction but it can't be refreshed after that. Wait out the 10 stacks and it resets to 0 again. During that time I death striked and rune tapped to replenish my health.
I wore my full tank set to help mitigation. Dodge and parry are key.

Not sure how people are soloing him - this fight is absolutely impossible as an enhancement shaman.
Didn't even get him to 90%, despite popping wolves, and not getting hit by a single sandtrap. He has what seems to be an absurdley large dodge/parry chance. (I am hit capped.)
So yeah, not soloable as an enh shaman in heroic blues/purples.

I'm really struggling with this one as a Heroic/Naxx geared feral druid tank. I keep getting hit by sand trap.
What I'm doing is what everyone has said above: keep moving away from the sand traps. But when I do that he teleports me back into the middle of the sand trap, and it hits me. The consequence is that I can't hit him, so leader of the pack doesn't heal me, and i also can't cast barkskin or demo roar or anything
Is there any way to avoid getting warped into the sand trap every bloody time?

Done with 2 level 80 pallys, one prot tank, the other ret spec with healing gear on (around 10k mana)
Simple way to do this is keep running. I strafed the whole time except when healing, and only got caught a couple of times by the sand trap. Try and heal when the debuff is at its lowest stack. Tried to estimate when the debuff would disappear but it reappears almost immediately so ended up healing when it was at its worst which was a waste.
Had to take a mana potion, use Divine Plea repeatedly and go and bop the boss with my Judgement of Wisdom occasionally to get mana back.
Probably took about 10-15 mins in all coz ofc the tank was the one doing almost all of the damage. Tank used Lay on Hands near the end coz that was one of the times I got sand trapped.
Overall not too difficult, just loooooooooong.

2 manned with 2 Shamans.
1 Enhancement - 1 Elemental
Enhancement Shaman got initial aggro. Just walk backwards in a circle. You can see the sand traps on the ground before they explode, however I noticed several times when we were no where near them we still got silenced. So be careful of that. Kurinnaxx will randomly do a teleport thing. It won't affect you as much if you have your screen set where it automatically resets behind your character. (Otherwise this will be an extreme pain). Save maelstrom to heal yourself, however don't waste heals if his debuff has stacked above 6. (Once it hits 10 it will completely reset, so hang on as long as you can so you don't waste mana)
The elemental Shaman moved as he could avoiding sand traps whenever possible. If you get into a sticky situation, he *is* tauntable, so pop your earth elemental and let your stack wear off so you can heal yourself up.
This can be solo'd/duo'd by most any class (being harder for casters because the sand trap is a 20 second silence) Any class doing this, just remember not to waste heals if your debuff has stacked above 6 (for each stack is 10%. So first stack heals are reduced by 10% all the way up to 10 stacks being 100% for those of you who don't know)
Have fun and good luck!

Cannot solo as a Moonkin. Soloing Onyxia is easier xD.
I kept getting a bug where I'd instantly turn and face her, so casting was a $%^&*, as well as running while moonfire spamming.
I'm in full epic gear from 10s and 25s, with 18k HP and 2k SD. Sand traps were impossible to see/avoid, since casting anything besides wrath was too long and you would get silenced.
Highly recommend doing it with 2, or as Feral if you're a druid.
ALSO: Getting past the trash is no easy task. They aggro easily, unlike ZG trash, have much more HP, and do more damage.

Do yourself a favor and clear the trash before attempting this boss, do not I repeat DO NOT try to pull him out to the previous area. Even if you memorize the patrol patterns, Kurinnaxx's Summon Player makes him really hard to move around. I ended up falling through the ground while being constantly being summoned back by the boss, which later resulted in three packs of trash aggroing me.

The solo encounter for this is not too difficult. You must simply continously kite him in circles so as to avoid being silenced, and as for the mortal wounds after they stack to 10, they will last for 15 seconds and then dissipate, allowing you to burst heal until the next mortal wound hits. Fairly simple encounter to solo if you know what you're doing.

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Moon+Guard&n=Pailong
), also not amazingly geared. Simplistic fight, just keep moving. Got hit by a second or two of sandtraps, three times or so during the fight, but if you don't get hit by them more than once, then it's no problem. Myakah was using seal of light, and I was keeping up judgement of light and using divine storm, so that helps during the sand trap silence. Mortal wound wasn't a huge issue, I just ran away from the boss when she was at low health, taunted, and we waited for her debuff to wear off. The boss maybe got two hits in on my before she could taunt him back around.

The easiest way to avoid sand traps is to switch to walking speed and constantly back up. He very rarely summons when this is done, and it won't move you far back enough to get hit by a trap, because he scoots up close to you more often when you're moving this slowly. Since I have started using this strategy I have never been hit by a single trap.

Got this after many wipes of refining my solo strategy
I start off by running in and immediately throwing down my fire elemental totem, letting him burn the boss as much as he can before the 2 minutes are up, with me keeping right below his aggro, constantly moving.
When the fire ele despawns, I drop my earth ele and begin to DPS a little more seriously, as the earth ele can taunt.
Very very delicate fight for an elemental shaman

Hôôfy - Prot Warrior / Prot-BT Warrior
Soloed this guy just over the weekend, it's pretty straight forward. But took me 2-3 tries to get used to what's going on. Spec for BT and glyph for BT. My Gear is in the 232 average range. About 37k Stam unbuffed.
After clearing adds aggro the boss, and kite him backwards along the edge of his area (along the edges of the sand). This will make the sand explosions pointless. As for his Mortal Strike ability, you're gonna have to eat that, once it gets to an unbearable amount i dont think he can cast it anymore to refresh, therefore, letting it fade off. It is possible to fade off before then due to a lucky dodge, block, parry , and Don't stop using bloodthirst, because once the debuff falls off, you will heal a bunch, and it is a great opportunity to use Last Stand + Enraged Regeneration if you have to.
the frenzy isnt a threat at all if you managed to get a good rotation going with your bloodthirsts and kiting technique, just use shield wall if you fear you might take too much dmg.

As a BM hunter, post 4.0.1 this was an easy solo.
The debuff doesn't seem to affect Mend Pet, which heals a percentage of your pets health rather then the actual number. It appears to make the stacking debuff negligible. That, or your pet should just stay up that easy.

After a few successful tries as a Cat DPS spec'd Feral Druid (post Cata launch) I've come up with easy mode. Luna style. (I tried solo'ing this guy as a Frost PvP Mage, back a while ago, yeah, that failed horrendously but, moving forward) I killed all the trash (not hard, fun times) in bear form, then got to the boss, the first time I accidentally pulled him with a mob (got too close, bad timing... etc) and downed him. Just rp walk backwards, use the pit as a guide, turn on auto walk, and pop your instant cast heals when your debuff cycles back down to only 1 stack, then back in bear form. Use your defense cooldowns if you need to and beat the ever lovin' nuts out of him. It'll take about 4-5 minutes (on average.) Super, super, super easy mode. If you are +80 and in expansion gear, he's about as bad to fight as outland dungeons were pre-cata. (Read: A Kitten and Yarn ball hard)

A note for Paladins:
Do not go into this fight thinking you can just use emergency buttons, especially if you do not watch your trash pulls as this guy has got a huge aggro radius. He will lock you out of EVERYTHING outside of CS/HotR, judgments and Divine Shield. This even includes your racial heal if applicable, WoG and LoH. Do not be careless when you pull him. Divine Shield does drop the silence but if you are careless you can quickly get it back and it is 20 secs long. Which may not seem like that long, but when you are doing little damage overall and/or have trash along with the boss, you will be worn down especially if you keep getting the buff.
I, like others, found it best to just move while killing him. If you wait for a sand-trap to appear before you move out of it, it's probably too late. Walking backwards or just turning in a circle both work well for this.
If you get silenced don't just automatically use your bubble - save it for when you need it especially for those lower then 85 (since LoH after the silence may help more and you don't want forbearance when you really need to stay alive). Just endure the silence unless you are in trouble and keep moving out of the sand-traps even during the silence, as the debuff can be renewed by standing in them while silenced.

His summon was either glitched or has been revamped to be very touchy. He summoned me, regardless of my position and if he could melee me about every 2 seconds. He would even summon me if i didn't move at all since the last summon, usually to a slightly different location. This made avoiding the sand traps and casting very difficult. I had to rely on instant spells and my pet for the most part.
All i did was have my pet aggro him at first from a distance from myself, get some decent aggro, then pop everything to burn him. got him to about 50% when I pulled aggro off my pet and basically watched my pet solo him.
Frustrating with this twitchy summon of his.

Additionally it's extremely hard to not get caught in sand trap, you cannot face away from the boss to run as every single summon turns you around, which rules out strafing also leaving your only option as back peddling which is touch and go

Solo'd with level 85 Disc Priest ilvl 302
the MOST annoying boss encounter I have ever had.
just keep running backwards..but always face the ugly piece of S**T :P
when your able to cast spells, bubble and renew and use any DoT's and possibly Penance.
he won't hit hard until around 25% hp

85 ilvl359 druid tank. Simple fight, rather boring.
Best strat found was to walk backwards but in a curve. If I went straight back, he took a second to catch up and would be out of melee range so I would miss a move, and I was catching alot of sand traps.
Walking in a backwards curve meant that he was constantly in range, and I missed alot more traps.
Only used Lacerate so that a dot was up if I caught a trap. Took 126 seconds to die.

I don't know what all the fuss is about, I just killed this bugger in less than 20 secs. He didn't get to use any of his traps or other major abilities.

Did what Mydge suggested, I am a fury war 85, worked like a charm! Had died three times previously, kept getting silenced, running out of rage, and all my attacks were not hitting him. Walked backward in a circle, never got silenced, was able to keep up battle shout for rage, lay rend on him, worked like a charm!

I couldn't beat this boss as arcane mage at all. Died far too many times. When with patch 5.04 had to change spec (frost) decided to give it a try.
First I did clean a trash that was flying around.
All my CD were ready to use.
Pet ready as well.
From distance casted Frost Bomb, then Frozen orb and mirror image. Pet did it's job meanwhile, of course. Didn't move, didn't turn even, just faced the running at me boss. Before i could cast third frostbolt, he was down.

Soloed as a level 82 prot warrior. Just keep walking backwards to avoid sand trap and mortal strike and just have second wind keeping you at 35% health.

Just solo'd on a 72 disc priest. Pretty hard fight, but followed strat of just backing up. While backing up I kept SW:Pain on boss and cast Holy Fire, Penence, and Mindbender on cooldown. Kept renew on myself whole time and PW:Shield on cooldown. Healed with flash heal a couple times as needed.

I wasn't able to solo this boss as level 64 warrior - item level 69/76. After I tried two times to kill him, I moved on to the next area, where I was able to kill the boss.

I just killed him as level 100, hoping for that pink cloth robe that's really pretty for transmog. He didn't drop anything, and his body then disappeared like 10 seconds after. Does he not drop anything anymore? Quite disappointed.

With his hollow eyes and simple, writhing design, Kurinnaxx easily tops any other model in the game for most times I've heard someone comment on how something looks so genuinely creepy.
So let's get a tamable version for mobile nightmare fuel!
