Optional boss in the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj.

Moam has an annoying habit of blowing up and killing people. You, specifically. Try not to let that happen.
Points of Interest:
1.) Moam drains mana. Your mana. He starts empty, and when he fills up, he does a massive AOE that, chances are, is going to kill whoever it hits. You CAN weather it, but I don't recommend trying.
Solution: Drain his mana. Warlocks, priests, and a hunter for viper sting need to be on the ball.
2.) After 90 seconds, Moam will turn into a station. He won't attack, and he won't drain mana, although he will regenerate it naturally. The bad news is, he spawns three elementals that do arcane explosions for a very large amount of damage (around 1k each)
Solution: Ideally, you'll have three warlocks, and each of them banishes one elemental, then you finish off Moam. If you're short, banish what you can, kill the remaining one, then kill Moam. You REALLY need warlocks, for both phases of the fight.
He's not a complicated encounter, but things can go badly very easily.

It appears that his mana drain works by targeting a certain member, looking at him, and draining everyone in view (about 180 degree view).
A few times when we do this, I take myself and the rest of the mages over to the side and stand on the far left of Moam away from the raid. It ususally will not drain mana unless he targets one of us. Obviously moving everyone over there would defeat the purpose but it helps our dps a lot since we don't go OOM as quickly. Some guilds have half the raid mount up and ride past him after he gets aggroed, so they can halve the amount of mana drain by attacking from behind.

This boss is optional and can be found by going to the right after Kurinnaxx's room. In the Moam encounter you need to drain all of his mana - all priests, hunters, and warlocks should be using mana draining spells. If he reaches full mana he will explode. After 2 minutes, moam goes into stone form, and releases 3 mana elementals. These should be banished ASAP or killed (they cause heavy AoE damage and silence), and DPS should continue on Moam (along with mana drain).

Moam
-------------------------------------------------
Trample - AOE melee range attack that deals about 900 -1200 damage to a tank.
Drain Mana - Drains 500 mana from 6 people. Virtually unlimited range. Gives 1000 mana to Moam per person. This attack is not directional.
Arcane Explosion - If Moam's mana reaches 100% he emotes "Moam bristles with energy" and unleashes a 3000 damage arcane explosion plus fall damage.
Summon Mana Fiend - 90 seconds into the battle, Moam summons 3 Mana Fiends, which are arcane elementals. These are banishable and rootable.
Turn to Stone - Also at 90 seconds, after summoning the mana fiends, Moam will turn to stone. In this state he cannot attack and does not drain mana (but does regenerate some). After a 90 seconds, or if his mana reaches 100%, he comes out of stone.
------------------------------------------------
Mana Fiend
Arcane Explosion - An arcane explosion that deals 900 - 1100 arcane damage, but has no knockback.
Counterspell This ability also interupts spellcasting and blocks out that school of magic for twelve seconds. I do not know who it preferentially targets, or if it's an AOE.
3 Priests, Warlocks, and Hunters
Having three each of warlocks and priests, and a hunter (Viper Sting does not stack) makes this fight easier, if you have the coordination together. Basics of this strategy are mana drain, ice traps/banish, and DPS like crazy.
Starting out, you need to send in your MT, any non-mana users, and the shamans and druids to heal. Warlocks and priests should stay behind and wait 2-3 seconds before running in (This will prevent them from getting their mana drained by Moam).
Have all three warlocks and all three priests drain mana. Also have a hunter keep a Viper Sting on it. This is enough mana burning to keep Moam from doing an Arcane Explosion. All other classes will be doing damage and healing.
After 90 seconds, 3 arcane elementals (Mana Fiends) will spawn - You want Moam to be below 45% by this time. Hunters can lay freeze traps in front of the Mana Fiends, then have a warlock banish when he is able. Using Feign Death/Freeze Trap, a hunter can pick up the add and prevent the arcane explosion. Warlocks will re-banish whenever capable.
With Moam a 45%, 1 priest can take a quick break to perform heals on essential members (no more than 30 seconds). At this point Non-stop DPS on Moam will bring him down easily.
Take down the adds, and reap the rewards.
]3 Priests and 3 Warlocks
Have all three warlocks and all three priests drain mana. Also have a hunter keep a Viper Sting on it. This is enough mana burning to keep Moam from doing an Arcane Explosion. All other classes will be doing damage and healing.
After 90 seconds, 3 arcane elementals (Mana Fiends) will spawn. The warlocks will keep these banished for the remainder of the fight. Priests will continue to mana burn. The rest of the raid will continue to attack Moam and try to kill it before it reverts to normal. Since Moam cannot move while it is turned to stone, there is no need for the raid to manage aggro.
When Moam dies, the raid should heal themselves. Let the banish end on the Mana Fiends one at a time and proceed to kill them. They do not despawn when Moam dies, but if the Mana Fiends wipe the raid when Moam is dead, they will despawn.
If the raid is short on warlocks, the elementals can be burned down as they only have approximately 15,000 health. It may be advisable to have 3 warlocks as the elementals do considerable AOE arcane damage.
Note that the priests will possibly run out of mana during this fight. Druids can use Innervate on priests if necessary. Mana potions are highly recommended. Priests should be aware that Inner Focus and the free spell therein do not count as casting for purposes of interrupting 100% mana regeneration. A carefully timed Inner Focus and mana burn can result in enough regeneration to cast the spell once more.

Fewer than 3 priests or warlocks
All priests and warlocks should still be mana burning Moam, but it will do an Arcane Explosion. Let it explode at about 80 seconds. This will cause Moam to turn to stone with very little mana, allowing warlocks and priests to keep up the mana drain so Moam will not not revert to normal prematurely.
Everyone but the main tank and a healer needs to run away from Moam before it does the Arcane Explosion. A Greater Arcane Protection Potion on the tank is recommended. After Moam explodes, it's mana returns to 0. When it stoneforms, either kill or banish the Mana Fiends and finish Moam off.
DPS
If the raid has a lot of DPS, the raid can try to kill Moam in under 90 seconds to prevent it from turning to stone and summoning Mana Fiends. If the raid is lacking warlocks and priests, then this may be the raid's best strategy. He has about 340000 HP, requiring an average DPS from the raid of 3778 in this time (just under 200 DPS per person on average).
Not Enough DPS
If the raid is wiping to Moam when it reaches full mana and there are not enough warlocks, hunters, and priests to mana drain it fast enough, then druids can shapeshift into cat form for extra damage. Since druids in cat form are not affected by the mana drain, Moam will have fewer players to mana drain from.
Reputation
Provides 150 Cenarion Circle reputation at friendly.
Provides 50 Brood of Nozdormu reputation at hated.

Solo'd it tonight, BM hunter, heroic and 10man naxx geared. Wore 2 piece T5 for pet heals. Kept up scorpid sting didnt really bother with viper to much. had to viper aspect a lot due to me being the only mana drain target. Elementals had like 13k health so volley took care of them quickly. the Aoe might have killed me from fall dmg but i potted, after that just burned him. 57G drop to pay my repairs from all the other boss attempts.

Soloed as an affliction warlock. The silence frow the elementals was a pain if the timing was wrong, i just banned one while dotting the other two and keeping my void up. Took me at least 5 adds phases. Nice challenging fight!

Just soloed as a feral druid, didn't even have to step out and heal, stayed in bear all the time. extremly easy considering he only drains mana from his adds which only had time to spawn one time so he never got time to explode.

Soloable as an 80 Survival Hunter.
Here's how you deal with him.
1. I suggest you use a Gorilladin if you don't already, you need the tanking talents and his AoE stomp.
2. Its a standard tank and spank until he summons adds. Make sure that you have Viper String on every 3rd Drain. He only gets 1000 mana each time and casting viper before that is a waste. Keep your mana at a decent level to mend pet and wait for phase 2.
3. Phase 2 sucks. The 3 adds he summons do a very annoying AoE. They will auto target you from pet heals. Send your pet to grab them all and keep the heals going. Always! Always! Keep viper on the boss every CD. I believe he gains 1000 mana each second during his channel and you need the few seconds viper gives you to kill the adds. Each add has 15000 health and dies fast, its just you will take a decent chunk of damage from the arcane explosions. Kill the adds and the boss will return to killing your pet. Keep heals and its a tank and spank again.
I managed to get through the phase when he had from 0 to 18000 mana. He drops about 100g worth of items so it is very worth it to kill him.

I did this solo as a level 80 Prot Warrior. I only have 25k HP unbuffed in mostly heroic gear and about 1300 block value for larger shield slams. I can't say much for strategy because I didn't really bother with tclap, demo, or shield wall. I just beat the crap out of him, killed the adds, used enraged regeneration and that was it.

Pretty easy as a bear specced druid. Don't even need to clear trash - just tank Moam up against the wall with the drawing of a big scarab on it.
The only danger in the fight is the second lot of summons will often coincide with his big explosion that throws you into the air. A good idea to save both frenzied regen and Berzerk (for quick add kills) for this second round of mana elementals (just stick to swipe/mangle/mail for the first group).
Moam doesn't hit very hard at all (in fact it's possible to rage-starve a bit if you have too much dodge) so barkskinning out to heal up a bit in between stoneforms if the elementals hurt you a little isn't a problem.
You should have downed him before a third round of elementals.

Total joke as a severly undergeared DK in blood spec (made for soloing - till now managed to do onyxia/mandokir/kurinnaxx/rajax/moam)
Dps gear, and nuke him. He dosent even do much damage so only use death strike when you get 70% or so. When he summons the elementals use AMS and when it's over IBF. Also immediately pop DnD and Pestilence all diseases on them. 20-30seconds or so and it's over. Heal yourself quite a bit as they deal 3k every couple of seconds :) GL

Once feared by all casters and mana users alike... Moam is officially a joke.
2 Manned with 2 Shaman
1 Elemental - 1 Enhancement
To get to Moam, after you complete the Rajaxx event you will come to a T type doorway. You want to take the right door. You'll know you're going the right way if you see mobs that look like the screenshot of this boss. If you have walk on water you can skip past clearing this entire room. (You could skip it as well if you felt like swimming) Just walk across the water, follow it all the way to the back of the room where Moam resides... you can't miss him.
Behind Moam you will see a wall with a scarab on it. We had the elemental shaman back up and put his back against the wall ( we were seriously scared... this thread makes him look vicious ) We started dpsing him and we saw his mana getting full... oh boy were we scared! Haha... so then he exploded... and it was almost as if nothing happened. It is seriously the smallest amount of damage, you have no need to fear Moam ever again.
At one point Moam will turn into stone and three arcane elementals will spawn. They have very little health, just beat 'em down and get back to Moam. Very easy fight, and very fun!
Have fun and good luck!

He appears to be an obsidian destroyer from Warcraft 3: TFT. Wonder what he's doing in Ahn'Qiraj?
The obsidian destroyers were actually made in Ahn'Qiraj, in order to better battle the dragons of the Nozdormu.
There has been no definite answer from Blizzard as how both the Scourge and the Qiraji both have control over Obsidian Destroyers. But the most common explanation is that it's the Nerubian branch of the Scourge that have the power to create these beings. As both both Nerubians and Qiraji are descendants of the Aqir race and the knowledge of how to create them has passed down from them, explaining why we can see them at Ahn'Qiraj in World of Warcraft.
However, some texts say that the first one ever to create an Obsidian Destroyer was the Lich King, ruining above theory. Unless he got the knowledge of how from the Nerubians.
What is known for sure is that Vek'lor created the Qiraji Obsidian Destroyers deep down in Ahn'Qiraj with the help of C'thun to battle the Bronze Dragonflight.
Added to Moam himself is that he was a special project made to perfect the Destroyers as soldiers for the comming of C'thun, Built by Vek'nilash, enchanted by Vek'lor and given life by C'thun himself.

Easy to solo as a level 80 pala :)
I used the Seal of Wisdom until the adds came, then I switched to Seal of Light and AoE-d the adds while nuking the boss, because they do an arcane explosion dealing about 4-6 k per cast (the three adds in total ) . When the adds died ( they have ~25k hp = easy to kill with Divine Storm and Consecration ) I switched back to Seal of Wisdom and nuked the boss until he died. I don't know if it was supposed to happen but his mana filled up and he made some kind of an explosion just before he died, launching me into the sky.. Didn't lose much health tho.

Like most aging encounters where damage done is based on a unique gimmick, tank classes and small groups can essentially demolish this boss without much of an idea what's going on.
The damage done by Moam in phase 1 is negligible for any iLvL 200+ geared tank.
While soloing, the only slight threat to an attempt will be Moam's elemental adds which spawn in threes while Moam "banishes" itself. If you're inattentive, they do put out damage at a steady pace that you'll have to contend with. Swipes, Consecrates, D & Ds or Cleaves will take care of them in short order.
Other than that, just pull Moam to the wall directly behind him and have fun!

Not sure if they changed his abilities but today I solo'd this as an unholy DK and he didn't drain any mana (which makes sense even though I had heard he used to drain mana from warriors) making it an extremely easy fight. Took less than a minute, didn't have to move the entire time, didn't pop cools, mostly ilvl 251 and better gear. Currently midway through my first solo venture of this place and Kurinnaxx is far and away the hardest to solo due to sandtraps and his healing reduction.

As of this time that was true, Blizzard gave no true reasons; until recently.
((There are spoilers here, so...))
According to Bornak, this guy, and all of the other "Obsidian Destroyers" in Ahn'qiraj, as well as the original Obsidian Destroyers of WCIII, were called the Tol'Vir, an ancient cat like race that lived near titan structures.
The entities known as obsidian destroyers are actually enslaved titan constructs that were once called the tol'vir. The tol'vir were created to maintain titan lore repositories and titan machinery surrounding the titan cities of Ulduar and Uldum. Not long after the troll empires divided the insectoid kingdom of the aqir, the aqir that travelled north discovered and overthrew the tol'vir society in Northrend. These aqir would eventually become the race we know as the nerubians today, having adapted the tol'vir's architecture for their own purposes. Similarly, the aqir that travelled south ransacked and overthrew a titan research station near Uldum, renaming themselves the qiraji and calling their new home Ahn'Qiraj. Although the Scourge would eventually consume the nerubian empire and throw its few remaining tol'vir slaves into the front lines, it's possible that more tol'vir still exist in the hidden titan city of Uldum or deep within the remnants of Azjol-Nerub.

During the War of the Shifting Sands, three great dragons — Arygos, Merithra of the Dream, and Caelestrasz — sacrificed themselves to aid in the creation of the Scarab Wall.
Though the wall prevented the Qiraji from venturing out, the insect empire refused to remain idle. In preparation for their reemergence in the world, the shadowy master of Ahn'Qiraj commanded Emperor Vek'lor to create a new obsidian statue superior to all other Destroyers. Vek'lor sought his twin brother's aid in the task, and while Vek'nilash used his physical might to craft a grand body of volcanic rock, Vek'lor fortified the shell with powerful magic.
Emperor Vek'lor named the finished construct Moam, and observed as the dark master infused it with life. He was pleased and surprised to find that the improved Obsidian Destroyer was far more versatile than its earlier counterparts. The Twin Emperors intended to use Moam as a colossal weapon, knowing that its strengths would help it survive in the thick of melee as well as magical combat-but they did not expect for the construct's abilities to advance further without their own assistance.
Far more surprising, even to the arcane emperors, was Moam's ability to summon burning elementals crafted of pure mana.
It was only after Vek'lor witnessed this demonstration of Moam's unbridled power that the source of the construct's seemingly limitless energy was revealed - three tortured dragons: Arygos, Merithra and Caelestrasz, trapped alive within Ahn'Qiraj but not granted the mercy of death as the emperors had believed.
The twins were stunned to learn that their overseer had somehow bound the three dragons, then drained their inherent magical energy and corrupted it for his own use - fortifying not only Moam, but the rest of his twisted creations as well. Truly, it seemed as if there was no limit to the powers of the Ancient One.
