You know I honestly have to say this topic is getting old.. With the advent of services like Ventrilo and XBox live, I really don't understand why there are so many people that think girl's don't play video games. Yes I realize this topic is about the fact there IS a Very large number of girl gammer's, but I'm directing this more at those that still refuse to believe that girls do infact play.I think the worst example of this was a few years ago when I was playing Halo2 on live, and I was in a group with 6 guys and a girl. Despite the fact you could easily tell by her voice she was in fact female, a couple of the guy's in the group simply didn't believe her or the others. It got so bad the the girl ended up leaving the game half way through because these idiots simply would not shut up about it. Sadly, that's not the only time I've seen girls driven out of a game by jerk's like that or by immature little boy's that keep trying to get the girl to send them pics or a phone number. In the end, its really no surprise you dont see many girls playing video games, when that's the kinda stuff they have to deal with all the time.

Hmm... I can believe that. My Aunt is the one who got me on this E-Crack. Came to visit, all stoked about this stupid-sounding game, called "World of Warcraft". $200 later for WoW, BC, a timecard, a wireless router, and wireless receiver, just so I could play with her online, I couldn't say No. A year and a half later, here I am, with a female co-GM and several in-game girl friends (At least they claim :P), so it's not hard to believe WoW is that common between both sexes.
Yeah I’ve met quite a few girl gamers in my guilds, my mom used to play, and even myself I usually don't tell everyone I’m a girl though, most assume I’m some guy playing a female dranei priest, female night elf druid, female night elf priest, or female dranei death knight. rofl you can tell I love my priests I have 3 of them I never get tired of doing priest healing or dps:)I actually didn't play many games before wow just Zelda and Sims sometimes. Then one day my best friend said” you should start warcraft! Well he talked me into it I got the game and loved it from there on out I’m glad I started playing its fun:)Edit for spelling.
FragDolls are just a terrible corporate advertisement. PMS Clan is where it's at.
Pff, there are no girls on the internet.
I beg to differ. Playing Solitaire on Windows PC or Hearts is really fun, in my opinion. I used to love playing against my friends on the Lifesavers website. There was a two-player pool game and we would play in the evenings, he being in Toronto and me being in North Carolina.Of course, gaming online is probably a significant chunk of PC gaming (but then we have gaming in general and does that encompass only digital gaming such as the arcade or Flash games on websites or does it include PlayStation and Nintendo, etc. or Solitaire with, omg, actual playing cards?). However, in America it is still estimated that around only 50% of the population have high speed Internet access. With numbers like that, no wonder it hasn't really taken off. The social aspects, something many people are more "addicted" to than the entertainment value, may never fully bloom in these games. Ventrilo and MMOs are at the forefront of bringing people closer together because, for some reason, less females play shooters and we can only handle SO much male bonding. . .But playing on a dial-up connection is fairly frustrating at times and limits the outreach many games have. Wrath of the Lich King upped the ante in terms of dial-up connection power and the next expansion may very well do away with anything less than ideal 56K speeds which will, in my opinion, draw less players or probably force some away. Of couse, the large reach the game has will probably make up for those losses in the end. For the rest of us, we'll just have to move on.
My guild is full of girls (some I know they are, others, well, I can't be sure). Our GM is a mom with two kids, and when we did our custom Naxx10 on Friday, half of the people (Me included) on Vent were women. Most of them moms who had just put their kids to sleep and were taking a needed break.
I think a more interesting question would be is how many women play that are actually single from the get-go.I think that as a female gamer who is engaged and who loves to game, it's not surprising that I play as I'm just as nerdy and serious about the game as he is.But on the other hand, I just don't feel I'd be as interested in this game if it wasn't through a connection to a guy at first. And most chicks I know end up saying the same thing, about this game or not. Also a personal pet peeve I have on this subject is girls that do or don't play well forming a stereotype that all girls play really well or are terrible and that's far more bothersome than pretty much anything else on the subject. Gender shouldn't mean a thing in those terms but it still crops up from time to time. "omg that girl beat me on dmg meters!1 wtf' or the classic 'she's only in the raid because she is the gl's booty call' Getting a bit old.
