Ppl that think "It's fun!" have not got to 17 rares and 525 skill yet. Get to 525, and then you say if it's fun or not.
Anyone ever had 2 rares at once to research? On a Tol'vir one (ring) now, and do not dare to solve my nelf ones. This is my 18'th, 2 more to go! :D I know I can get a 19'th pretty "easy". The nelf neck one. So farming Kalimdor a few more days should bring me the professor title.
Here's a blanked checklist I made for myself. Might help some people out there. I'd like to see a section in the wowhead profiles to track things like this (much like the mounts tool).Dwarf: Chalice of the Mountain Kings Clockwork Gnome The Innkeeper's Daughter Staff of the Sorceror-Thane ThauissanFossil: Fossilized Hatchling Fossilized RaptorNight Elf: Highborne Soul Mirror Kaldorei Wind Chimes Druid and Priest Statue Set Tyrande's Favorite Doll Bones of Transformation Wisp Amulet Queen Azshara's Dressing GownTroll: Zin'rokh, Destroyer of WorldsDraenei: Arrival of the Naaru The Last Relic of ArgusOrc: Headdress of the First ShamanNerubian: Blessing of the Old God Puzzle Box of Yogg-SaronVrykul: Nifflevar Bearded AxeTol'vir: Mummified Monkey Paw Pendant of the Scarab Storm Ring of the Boy Emperor Scimitar of the Sirocco Scepter of Azj'Aqir Staff of Ammunae Crawling Claw
18 rares now and so far I solved 393 in total devided as follows (that is roughly 12000 fragments, lol)Dwarf: 80Draenei: 13Fossil: 17Nelf: 94Nerubian: 15Orc: 10Tol'vir: 10Troll: 137Vrykul: 17And I have 2072 fossil and 973 vrykul fragments. You can easy count which ones I miss, if you're a "hardcore archeaologist". :)Second title is easy for anyone to get, even if you don't have much time. But professor, god damn...is there anyone out there that got that title yet? Probably a few, but not many, that is for sure.

Calling archaeology "fishing on land" is a bit misleading. I like fishing.OK, I like archaeology too. But the randomness does get in the way of truly enjoying myself. And of course, 90% (or more) of the time spent leveling archaeology isn't even archaeology, but travel. That's rather annoying.Consider getting a rare item from fishing. I wanted the sea turtle mount. So I focused on fishing from pools, which means a guaranteed catch. And fishing pools are often close together with a short respawn time. My character fished from glacial salmon pools and was able to sell the fish for a nice profit. With archaeology, getting the fossilized raptor mount is far more random -- and far more time is spent traveling. And the icing on the cake is that the secondary, "undesired" items are worthless.
just because you don't have them doesn't mean they don't exist, you say the profession is a waste of time, I say it's a way to get REALLY powerfull reusable items.that you lack the dedication to obtain them isn't a fault of the profession itself.
Ive got over 1200 fossil fragments now, and ive solved 162 troll puzzles... Im getting the short end of the stick right now.
