After spending hours ,days, weeks camping for my hunters rare spawn pets I felt sick to my stomach when I thought about someone grabbing my account..And possb. setting my pets go and leaving me with nothing. So I grabbed one of these best 6 bucks I 've spent. I keep it on me at all times around my neck snice I play on a laptop. As I am a student in collage going into internet sec. and they tell us no matter how strong your user name is all it takes is that one keylogger. Also know that you can have Anti-Malware,Anti-Virus,and Firewall on your PC and you still can get through the cracks. If you have all that on your pc why not just take the extra step and buy one of these. Its like leaving it incomplete. But to each his own..be aware that the only true safe PC is one that is not connected to the internet.
I would say the extra few seconds to log in would be well worth it. Unfortunetly for me, I had finally broke down and ordered mine. The day I go it in the mail I hadn't really paid attention and set it aside. Next day (christmas eve) I attempted to log in and my password had be changed, went through resetting it and there was my lvl 80 DK with out shoes or a weapon on the starting screen. I was soooo mad as I just came back to the game after a 7 month absence.Securing your account, your hard work, and not having someone ruin your fun time, $6 is a bargin!
I work in IT. I don't do stupid internet surfing. I'm careful with everything I install on my PC. I keep everything clean. I turned my authenticator off because I thought the extra few seconds it took to log on were "inconvenient".I can tell you the feeling of logging on one day to see you're two ICC25 geared 80's, and seven level 60+'s naked, along with two personal guild banks emptied is indescribable.. Not to mention about 80,000g and several emblems of frost missing. It doesn't hurt until you begin disassemble exactly what took place. All your gear, mats, trophies, and everything with a price tag was vendored.. Your emblems were spent to buy things that could be vendored. Your action bar was reworked to make traveling and trading more convenient. Your toons were used to spam trade with gold-selling ads. The only reason your bags weren't sold was because whoever was on your account didn't have time to type DELETE for all you emblem, tier and holiday gear. The bags in your bank are gone. Little things like food and reagents were vendored. Then it gets worse...You put in your ticket and e-mail account management with what just happened, and are notified an investigation will be launched. You will receive about 300 e-mails in the next few days from a bunch of $%^&ed off Chinese (no offense) Blizzard impersonators telling you to verify your information, or your account's been compromised, or that your account will be banned because you were trying to sell your account, or any number of other things trying to get your recently changed account info. It's been 5 days now, and I'm still waiting for a "real" response from Blizzard.FFS Get an authenticator, the core hound's cute as hell anyway...
This post was from a user who has deleted their account.
What if the keylogger knows about the times you get online and manages to keylogg the autheticated code you put in faster then when you hit enter. He's in and you are SOL!
They work if they stay on your account.
Authenticator is worth the trouble, imo. Sure, it may take a couple extra seconds to log in, but I'd take that, rather than have my account that I've put over two years of gameplay into be compromised in an instant. As for boxing WoW with an authenticator...well, I don't think most average Americans have the mental capacity for it. =/ That and, Blizz would start getting tons of calls about lost authenticators, broken authenticators, ect.
