Rotation & Abilities
With the onset of Legion, Marksmanship is essentially a new specialization, with little other than names in common with the previous iteration. The Legion version of the Marksmanship spec is based around a new mechanic which consists of proc'ing
, using Marked Shot to convert
into Vulnerabilities, and then casting buffed
s in order to take advantage of those Vulnerabilities. Through the use of talents, the spec is fairly versatile, having possible builds for single target damage dealing, as well as some burst AoE options. The spec has lost most of its core CC abilities, including all traps, as well as several more specialized utility abilities, such as
. The movement specific abilities have remained largely untouched with the exception of
being changed to a movement speed cooldown.
New in Patch 7.1.5
Marksmanship has been re-tuned, with most changes aimed at tempering down the extremes of its usefulness as a spec: making it slightly better at sustained single target dps, and worse at mass AoE dps. This was primarily done by making the baseline Vulnerability mechanic work more like the previous talent called Patient Sniper, and turning that talent into something else. In addition, Marksmanship has seen the return of traps, which had been made a Survival-only feature in 7.0. Currently, Marksmanship hunters have Tar Trap and Freezing Trap.
7.1.5 brings with it flat damage increases to Aimed Shot, Arcane Shot and Bursting Shot. Vulnerable no longer stacks, and only lasts 6 seconds, but increases the damage of Aimed Shot by 100%. In addition, Marked Shot is no longer affected by Vulnerable, but has seen a baseline damage increase. Many talents have also been changed in an attempt to provide some parity between the various talents in each tier. See the Talents section of this guide for more information.

Sniper Training has been overhauled, and no longer includes a movement penalty. It now increases the range of all ranged abilities slightly, and greatly increases the damage done of all abilities that cost Focus.
What makes Marksmanship special
Marksmanship has embraced the class fantasy of the ranger, drawing inspiration from the likes of the Windrunner sisters, Sylvanas, Alleria and Vereesa. Marks hunters look for vulnerabilities in their targets, mark those vulnerabilities, then take aim with carefully placed shots. Players can customize their Marks hunters to fulfill several variations of the fantasy: they're the only hunter spec that can function with or without a pet; they have several options including undead pets and a shadow-based shot for those more interested in following in Sylvanas's footsteps; and they have several choices which can convert the spec to either a carefully planned out long-range sniper play-style, or a quick moving spray-and-pray play-style.
All races, including Gnomes, can play Hunters.
Marksmanship Hunters use bows, crossbows, and guns.
Iconic Marksmanship Hunter abilities:
: Range of all your ranged abilities are increased by 5% and damage of all Focus spending abilities increased by 20%.

Questions and Comments
Until Mythic raids are released, all of the information contained in this guide will be in a constant state of flux. While it's unlikely they'll be changing any core mechanics of the class, we're still seeing many changes to artifact talents and general tuning of abilities. This guide will be continually updated to reflect changes and new ideas in theorycrafting, though it may not always be immediate, as implementing changes into spreadsheets and simulation tools can take time.
