Gear in Legion is designed around a fresh perspective; there are equivalent gearing paths and gear from any content has a small chance to proc the highest possible item level. Here is a rundown of the different types of ways you can gear up at the start of Legion before Mythic+ Dungeons and Raids.
If you are looking for higher ilvl gear, check out the
Mythic +
and
Nighthold Loot
guides.
With the Battle for Azeroth stat squish, the information in this guide is not relevant for the current expansion. Please read the
Battle for Azeroth Gearing Guide
instead.
How Legion Gear Works
Instead of picking an activity that rewards a piece of gear at a specific ilvl, most gear has a small chance to appear at the maximum ilvl from
any
activity. This titanforged cap is now ilvl 985 in Patch 7.3.2.
If an item appears up to 10 ilvls above the base, it will be marked as
Warforged
in the tooltip. If an item procs +15 or higher, it will be marked as
Titanforged
. For example, If you love solo questing, there's a small chance your rewards from World Quests can proc Titanforged and be the same level as loot from a Mythic Dungeon.
Less gear in Legion is spec/role specific. Most primary stats change based on your specialization and new to Legion, rings, and necks have no primary stats, only stamina and secondary stats. This makes them desirable for everyone.
The personal loot system has received an important quality-of-life upgrade in Legion. If you win an item and you have gotten an item with that ilvl before, you can trade it to others in the raid.
How Relics Work
There are no weapon drops in Legion. Your Artifact Weapon is your main weapon in Legion; in place of weapon drops, there are Relic drops. Relics are items which increase the ilvl of your Artifact Weapon and increase a trait or two. Each Artifact Weapon has a unique assortment of Relic sockets that are themed around the "fantasy" of the weapon--for example, Warlocks have a lot of Fel Relics.
Relics are also affected by Warforged and Titanforged. The highest "base" relic is from Mythic Dungeons: these relics will increase the ilvl of your Artifact weapon by +40 (with a chance to be slightly more if the relic procs Warforged).
A more detailed explanation of Relics, as well as what Relic types are for each spec, can be found in the
Artifact Weapon Guide
.

Dauntless (850+)
There is one type of tokens that can be transformed into gear available on the Broken Shore:
Dauntless Tokens
.
Dauntless Tokens cost 400
虚空碎片
, are blue-quality, and turn into an 850 ilvl item.
The Dauntless Tokens can also drop from mobs on the Broken Shore.
Learn how to acquire this currency in the
Nethershard Guide
.
Unsullied (880+)
Unsullied Gear
is the Argus version of Dauntless gear. However, there doesn't appear to be any way to currently buy these and they are only available from random drops and Invasion Points.
These tokens are Bind on Account.
Relinquished (910+)
In Patch 7.3,
Relinquished Items
have been removed off the Broken Shore and added onto the Vindicaar.
Relinquished items have been upgraded to item level 910 but will cost 650
黯淡的阿古尼特水晶
. In addition, Tomb of Sargeras Loot has been added to the Relinquished tokens, as well as all legendaries, including ones added in 7.2.5.
Learn how to acquire this currency in the
Veiled Argunite Guide
.
Legion Dungeons (845+)
There are
13 dungeons in Legion
as part of the Heroic Dungeon Finder. Several dungeons on Mythic difficulty have additional attunements, which are covered in our
Attunement Tracker.
In Patch 7.3, Normal loot is 845, Heroic loot is 865, and Mythic is 885
. All of this loot can proc Warforged or Titanforged.
Heroic dungeons require ilvl 845 to queue (no Proving Grounds silver like past expansions), and Mythic dungeons require premade groups and are on a weekly lockout.
A full list of loot, as well as strategies for all bosses and difficult trash, can be found on each
Legion Dungeon Strategy Guide
.
Outside the scope of this beginner guide, you can run Mythic dungeons on a higher difficulty, which reward better loot.
World Quests (805 - 895)
World quests are a max-level questing system with randomized objectives and rewards all over the Broken Isles. As soon as you hit 110 and Friendly with the 5 factions for
联合势力
, you can embark upon World Quests!
World quests send you all over the Broken Isles completing objectives, which can vary greatly and include killing regular mobs or elites, completing pet battles, crafting gear, and world PvP. Full details in the
World Quest Guide
.
World Quest gear starts off at 805; the better your ilvl, the better base ilvl will appear on the World Quest reward.
There is a pool of potential rewards for regular World Quests (killing normal mobs or elites, not specialty quests like professions) which include gear for all slots, including relics. As the ilvl of your gear increases, the World Quest rewards will start off at a higher ilvl as well, to ensure that the rewards remain relevant.
Based on the difficulty of the World Quest, your loot also has a chance to be potentially better. For example: killing a rare elite that requires a group will reward a higher ilvl item than killing a jailor and freeing 10 regular prisoners. Using average equipped ilvl 818 as an example, some regular World Quests have 820-835 rewards, while elite quests up at the same time have 835 rewards.
There are also Dungeon World quests which send you into a Legion dungeon to kill a special elite and the final boss. These quests reward a piece of loot from the dungeon. In the past, some dungeon rewards have also appeared on outdoor World Quests as well. Of course, farming a dungeon for a specific boss drop is more efficient than waiting for a World Quest to be up.
The
Today in Legion
page, similar to Today in Draenor, will track what quests and rewards are up when Legion launches.
Season 5 PvP Gear
Season 5 PvP gear is available through Relinquished tokens, traditional PvP sources like winning brawls and battlegrounds, and even from some PvP-themed World Quests.
There is a new way to acquire PvP gear in Patch 7.2 - the
Obliterum Forge
. You can obliterate Ferociousl
Gladiator
and
Combatant Gear
to get
战斗的回响
. You can then turn in 100
战斗的回响
for a piece of Season 4 PvP gear you prefer.
Argus Crafted Gear (885-935)
Each armor class in Patch 7.3 has two new pieces of gear that can be made by crafters: One Jewelcrafting Helm and one other piece made from Tailoring, Leatherworking or Blacksmithing. These pieces use the new resources found on Argus and start at item level 885. These
specific pieces
can be upgraded using
源生抑魔金
to item level 935.
Crafted Gear (850-900)
Crafted gear in Legion has no equip limit; you can be fully decked in crafted gear for each slot in Legion if you like.
Crafted gear in Legion
can not
be Warforged/Titanforged but
it can be upgraded to 900
via the Obliterum Forge. If you have a lot of gold/time on hand, you could, in theory, create a full set of ilvl 900 gear via crafting.
The best-crafted gear in Legion starts at ilvl 850. A particularly strong set of items are the crafted necks from Jewelcrafting, as these come with a guaranteed socket and a class-specific proc.
New to Patch 7.2, the Obliterum Forge automatically unlocks for players! No more detailed questline.
Legion recipes are acquired from a variety of sources, like quests or dungeon drops. Here is an overview of crafted ilvl 850 slots per race and what you need to do to unlock the Rank 1 recipe. Rank 2 and 3 recipes, which generally require dungeons or reputation, reduce the amount of crafting materials.

Shoulders - Exalted with the Nightfallen. This will take some time as Suramar is a level 110 zone. Check out our
reputation guide
on how to hit Exalted.
All items can be upgraded to 840 with tokens, except shoulders which start at 850:
To 820:

New to Patch 7.2: if you complete
抗魔联军勇士
on the Broken Shore, periodically world quests will spawn that award armor tokens to upgrade these items to ilvl 870. These are fairly infrequent.
World Bosses (860-900)
With Legion comes 11 new World Bosses who are associated with epic world quests. They will be available when their world quest appears on your map, and these quests last several days. In addition to their loot, you will receive the reward from the world quest, which can vary from week to week and include Order Resources, gold, and Artifact Power items.
The
Broken Isles World Bosses
guide covers full loot tables and abilities for all the world bosses. Here is an overview of what slot is unique to each boss
Ana-Mouz - Chest
Calamir - Feet

Patch 7.2 brings four new world bosses
:
布鲁塔卢斯
,
阿波克隆
,
马利费库斯
, and
丝瓦什
.
These world bosses will drop ilvl 900 gear.
World Bosses on the Broken Shore are only available when the
Nether Disruptor World Building
is complete for 3 days at a time.
Invasion Point Bosses (930+)
Patch 7.3 brings 6 new Invasion Point bosses
:
奥库拉鲁斯
,
主母芙努娜
,
索塔纳索尔
,
审判官梅托
,
妖女奥露拉黛儿
,
深渊领主维尔姆斯
.
These Invasion Point bosses will drop ilvl 930 gear.
These bosses are only available when their related
Greater Invasion Point
is active.
Legendaries (940-1000)
Legendaries in Legion are transformative world drops!
They are ilvl 1000
and come with an equip that greatly empowers an ability; if you equip that legendary you will likely modify your playstyle to take advantage of that ability more, which may, in turn, affect your talents and Artifact Trait path.
You can upgrade lower level legendaries to ilvl 1000 via
泰坦级研究
.
Learn about the legendaries for all specs and their procs in the
Legion Legendary Guide
. You can also browse a
filtered list in the database
.
At Legion's launch you can only equip
one
legendary. If you reach Rank 6 Order Advancement, you will unlock an ability which allows you to
equip 2 at once
. The process to reach Rank 6 has been extremely condensed in Patch 7.2.
Early on in Legion, any legendary will feel like a big upgrade, even if you don't get your favorite proc, due to the massive ilvl gain. When you get lucky and obtain multiple world-drop legendaries, then you can decide which are better suited to your preferred playstyle.
The "Gear" section of each specialization guide goes into legendaries and playstyles in greater detail. Access all the guides on our
Legion Class Guides
hub page.
Many existing legendaries are being reworked to be more appealing in 7.2.
Highlights include the changes to
塞弗斯的秘密
:
Now always grants 10% increased movement speed and 2% Haste.
When triggered, this bonus is increased to the current values of 70% movement speed and 25% Haste.
Movement speed bonuses now stack with other movement speed bonuses.
Reputation Gear (820-850)
All factions have an
ilvl 820 pice at Revered and ilvl 850 piece at Exalted
. The Nightfallen also have ilvl 800 boots at Friendly and an ilvl 840 Neck at Revered. Please refer to the Legion Reputation guides for more information:
The Nightfallen
Valarjar
The Wardens
Dreamweavers
Highmountain Tribe
Court of Farondis
Modifying Your Gear
Legion gear enhancements work in a similar fashion to Warlords. There are gems and enchants, although there are
no
weapon enchants in Legion and ones from Warlords don't work on weapons above ilvl 749.
Three gear slots can be enchanted with Legion gameplay enchants: necks, cloaks, and rings. There are also shoulder and glove enchants which can assist with professions, but weapons in Legion do not have special enchants.
Without a Garrison-like system in Legion, players must acquire their enchants from Enchanters. For crafters, recipes in Legion require different quest chains, and once completed, enchants can be made at low levels. Learn more about Enchanting in our
Legion Enchanting Guide
.
Gem sockets have a small chance to be found on all gear in Legion, including raid bosses, world bosses, world quest loot, and dungeon loot. Rings and necks crafted by Jewelcrafters have a 100% chance to have a socket.
Jewelcrafters which complete
去往达拉然的爱
can also create BoE epic gems that offer
+200 of a primary stat
. You will want to acquire one of these gems. More details in the
Legion Jewelcrafting Guide
.

Nice summary, here are two corrections:
If an item appears up to 15 ilvls above the base, it will be marked as Warforged
Only up to 10 is warforged. 15, as written, is already titanforged.
The second one is especially important, since it might lead to a lot of confusion in lfr, pugs, etc.:
If you win an item and it seems weaker than your currently-equipped item, you can trade it
Does not depend on your feeling, whether it is weaker or not. Also it does not depend on your equipped item
according to Watcher
:
So if you have (or have ever gotten, post-7.0, even if you no longer have it) an ilvl 720 trinket, any trinket drop you see that's 720 or lower can be traded to others in your raid group.
Personal loot is tradable if you have gotten an item with at least that item level before.

Just a quick correction.
Unless it has changed recently, normal dungeons only drop 805 gear not 810. Other then that it is a great guide.

You mean above ilvl 749, right ? :)

Heroic dungeons require ilvl 810 to queue (no Proving Grounds silver like past expansions)
Only WoD had that requirement. MoP just introduced Proving Grounds, but it was optional activity, with achievements/titles rewards.

I actually think with this guide here now, I won't bother doing a Gearing up when you hit 110 guide. This one fully suffices.

The reputation gear for the 820 is at Revered and not Honored as noted in the guide.

Perc, there is a mistake in this guide. This sentence has two errors: "All factions have an ilvl 820 pice at Honored and ilvl 850 piece at Exalted." The 820 gear is at revered and the word "pice" is misspelled.

There is also level 800 gear for completing zones. Picked this up from a comment in a quest guide.
By TegoZanduba (24,279 – 5·27·225) 12 days ago (Patch 7.0.3)
The four leveling Pillars of Creation all reward a level 800 gear item for the final quest, this is the only one that doesn't require a dungeon. This might be something to consider for the order you'll be doing them in.
The Tears of Elune, at the end of Val'sharah ( That's Val'sharah Folks! - 2 chapters don't count), awards the Chest slot
The Aegis of Aggramar, at the end of Stormheim ( Vrykul Story, Bro), awards the Leg slot
The Hammer of Khaz'goroth, at the end of Highmountain ( Ain't No Mountain High Enough, awards the Hands slot
The Tidestone of Golganneth, at the end of Azsuna ( Azsuna Matata - 2 chapters don't count), awards the Waist/Belt slot

Nice informative guide and I learned a lot about gear that was confusing to me because of the extensive changes. I have a complaint, not about this guide, but the changes by Blizzard. For 10 years I used WOWhead to help me decide what quests and dungeons I needed to do get the best gear. It was fun searching WOWhead to determine my strategy for the game and it gave me a plan to use when playing. But now it seems all you do is any quest, any dungeon or any world boss and hope you get some gear that you can't modify the stats on. You just blindly play the game and Blizzard does everything for you and you are no longer an individual, just another premade Blizzard pawn.

Heroic dungeons require ilvl 845 to queue
This is not correct. I recently leveled an alt, and I can queue for heroic dungeons well below item level 845.
