Can we talk about how powerful in PVE this will be on a shadow priest?
Vampiric Touch - Can Crit
Devouring Plague - Can Crit
Shadow Word: Pain - Can Crit
Mind Blast - Can Crit
Mind Flay - Can Crit
Shadow Word: Death - Can Crit
Get it? With three DoTs ticking and applying direct damage spells stacking three motes will not be a problem. Second priority on this I'd say will probably go to a fire mage with living bomb crits (Or arcane mage), and elemental shaman with flame shock crits. Third probably Affliction/destro locks and Moonkin.
However we'll have to wait for the actual math and DPS parses from live to see for sure.

if priest dot "crits" are anything like lock dot "crits" they don't actuall crit rather the damage is applied twice so i doubt this would proc off them but that is purely speculation.
Taken from the 1.0 and 2.0 versions of this trinket they benefited from shaman talents specifically addressed to lightning damage and seeing as this deals fire damage it may be fair to speculate that talents such as
Fire power,
Earth and Moon,
and the like will increase the damage as well.
Unless there was a change from the older models, aside from damage type and stats, you can gain motes as quick as you can crit, aoe included, once you reach 3 it'll fire off dealing damage to the 3rd crit victim, once it fires it goes on a 2 second cooldown in which you cannot gain any motes, after the 2 second cooldown you can gain motes as fast as possible again.
Long story short whether this gets some benefit from talents and such or none whatsoever it's still an amazing trinket and the more haste and crit you have the more this will add to your dps.
Edit: please don't try saying who deserves priority on this, any dps spellcaster that crits can make use of it be it mage, lock, priest, shaman, moonkin......paladin/warrior/dk/rogue are melee, hunter is physical.

Appears to work the same way as the Lightning Capacitor and Thunder Capacitor trinkets before it.
To reply to Hashmel, this means you only get a mote once every 2 seconds, creating a minimum time between Pillars of Flame of 6 seconds-
not
a Pillar every 2 seconds if you happened crit 3 times in 2 seconds.
Due to the lengthier cooldown between pillars, I would have to speculate that this would be considerably more useful for a class seeing 50%+ spell crit, or keeping up multiple spells that are over 25% crit each. Assuming you have enough crit to gain a mote every 2 seconds, that's 2k damage ever 6 seconds, and you're looking at a net gain of
333.33 DPS from the proc alone
, and this ignores both chance for the proc to crit AND the passive spell power.
Giving this to anyone that crits once every 4 seconds or so would halve the effect down to roughly 150 DPS gain- half the effect, and truly a waste by comparison.
I'd be very interested to see if the Pillar of Fire can proc ignite on a crit, as I was unable to find anyone on the PTR who had the chance to test it against the talent. If this is the case, the trinket would be hand-crafted for fire mages- well beyond the scope of usefulness for other classes.

It's not a waste if it's going to be an upgrade for the person receiving it. Anyone able to use it should be allowed to roll on it. I hate elitists.

( ( 1959 * .60 ) + ( 1959 * .40 ) ) / 2 = 979.5 Average Base Damage.
( ( 2275 * .60 ) + ( 2275 * .40 ) ) / 2 = 1137.5 Average Max Damage.
(979.5 + 1137.5 ) / 2 = 1058.5 Average Damage.
When your calculated average damage for the proc is far less than the minimum damage listed on the item, that should raise some red flags about the accuracy of your math. This isn't right at all.
What you were trying to get was:
(((1741+2023)/2 * .60) + ((1741+2023)/2 * 1.5 * .40)) = 2258 average damage per proc
That's assuming it inherits your crit chance and it has the default 150% crit damage like spells.
DPS contribution depends on how often you crit.
2 seconds between crits (minimum) => 376 DPS
3 seconds between crits => 251 DPS
4 seconds between crits => 188 DPS
5 seconds between crits => 151 DPS
Plus a bit extra for CoE/Earth and Moon/Ebon Plague, etc.

Sorry Nibble, but you misunderstood what the 1959 and 2275 values were for. And also understand its all
AVERAGE
What I did was take 1959 and 2275, the values for the proc off the
Heroic
trinket, multiply them by the crit value(assumed 40% or .4) and hit values(assumed 60% or .6) which would equal 100% since we assume 100% of the spells hit and also, assuming it was as you were saying, that the proc's crit is like a normal spell crit and damages for 150% more than normal.
I then added 1959's hit(1175.4) and crit's(783.6) calculated values together, and divided by two. The reason why I divided by two is because there were two values, hit and crit, and to get an average of the two, you need to take the added total and divide it by two to get the average low hit damage. Thusly, you use the same procedure to find out the average high hit dmg.
Upon finding this value, of 1058.5, you calculate value of the trinket's pure spellpower conversion.
Since it only procs on crit, you take the 40% or .4 and divide by how many crits it takes to add a Shard of Flame, which is 1.0 or 100% giving you 2.5 as an answer. So rougly, every 2.5 spells will generate a shard of flame, which 3 of is needed to cast 1 or 100% of a Pillar of Flame.
Now we calculate the ammount of spells it will take to generate a Pillar of flame, which is easy. 2.5 x 3 = 7.5. So, on average, it takes 7.5 spells to cast a pillar of flame, which does an average of 1058.5 damage. With this, we calculate the value in Spellpower of the trinket by dividing 7.5 by 1058.5 giving you 141.13 SP as the answer.
Adding 141.13 to its 163 SP it already has will give you the total value of the trinket, so we add 141.13 to 168 and get 309.13 for the value of the Heroic. For Non-Heroic you would need to change the values at the beginning to what the trinket has on its Tool Tip.

From about 10 minutes testing this on a target dummy:
-The Pillar of Flame has no graphic
-Living bomb tick's do not proc motes. I cannot speak for other DoTs, but so far it doesn't look so good.
-Living bomb's explosion did proc motes
-The Pillar can crit
-The crits do not proc ignite for a fire mage
-You cannot aquire a more mote often than 2 seconds. While aoeing, I would get multiple crits, but only gain one mote in the 2 second span. I also spammed ice lance, and back to back crits would result in only one mote gained
-Spell damage does not appear to affect the proc
I tested with the
Alliance Version
, but the item is the exact same.

DOES NOT proc off:

Got the trinket this week for my elemental shaman. Although I am certain some other classes can get more out of the proc it still is amazing for my class. It does around 3-4% of my DPS which is more than the T8 4 set bonus on most fights.
Only observations I can add:
*Does not proc off flame shock dot crits from Tier8 which isn't surprising
*Procs off the Lightning Overload talent
*Crits for about 3.7k on a regular raid boss
*Affected by buffs like storm power on hodir, singed etc.(I've seen this thing crit for 10k+ on hodir)
The only thing I don't like about it is that pillar of flame doesn't have any graphic effect. I was expecting something cool to happen but...Hopefully it's a bug or they will add some graphic to it in a patch.

This this is better than amazing.
Over 70k dmg just from the procs last night in 25 heroic beasts.
BIS for a reason. Well outside of heroic.

* Reign of the Dead / Reign of the Unliving now only procs from non-periodic spell critical strike.
* Reign of the Dead / Reign of the Unliving now only procs from non-periodic spell critical strike.
Stock in this item for certain classes just went down, such as Spriests and Locks, but only certain locks.
Still great for Boomkin, Ele Sham, Mage, or Locks of a certain spec.

This, together with the Heroic version are both BiS for mages of any spec.
EDIT: Could be, if they were equipable at the same time (Unconfirmed)

Full Edit !
as Platstud pointed out, proc really does benefit from debuffs on the Mob. so i´ll just keep the numbers here
75 regular and Avg 2126,2
80 critical hits Avg 3328
considering a raidbuffed crit chance of ~ 55% this is pretty much exactly the expected outcome .
can´t wait to get the Heroic version :)

I have this on my arcane mage, only downside i see is my arcane blasts cast in under 1.8 sec unbuffed, with a 2 sec CD on gaining a mote, essentially I have to cast 3 AB to get 2 motes, (assuming they all crit which in 4p t9 in a 25 man My AB crits around 65%)
Same with arcane missiles, can only get one mote applied during a course of AM,
would be incredible for an arc mage if that 2 sec CD was removed.

The procc may very well work with the talents you stated. since it has been proven to stack with some Fire Mage talents
Most Notably
Molten Fury
Fire Power
Playing with Fire
However seeing as it doesn't work with Ignite or Burnout (which are very similar to the talent you listed), it might not
Do check it out and get back to me D:

This Trinket is Amazing for Balance druid Simply 2 reasons:
1 The static spellpower
2 When you have the Starfire eclipse . your crit almost every Starfire .
and with Starfire being a cast time of 2sec+ you can get a Mote out of every Starfire :)

Long story short, I won this for an offspec. I ended up selling it, and now that I don't have the trinket equipped or even in my inventory, I still have the "Mote of Flame" buff. When does the buff go away? :s
Update: When you die. Should've thought of that one.
