Chances are if you are OOM and need the mana that badly.. you can wait for 1 tick and throw out a heal, waiting for both ticks (4 seconds instead of 8 = 2 ticks instead of 4) might get someone killed, same as before, but definately more manageable.
Also depends on how many healers there are and how alive everyone is, but being desperate enough to pop hymn is usually a bad sign mana-wise, it could also mean you have been healing alot to keep people alive and if thats the case can you stand there doing nothing for 2-4 seconds?
*edit* the ptr 3.1 version used to double the mana gained per tick and shorten the duration by 4 seconds (ergo: cut in half).
As of build 9733 it increases the duration of hymn of hope by 2 seconds, making it officially the worst glyph in the history of the world, seriously.. do you even have 10 (
TEN!
) seconds to not do anything else even with sapphiron+ hiding behind the iceblocks?

Personally, for shadow this spell just does not fit. Being shadow means its out of the question of course. But for holy, there are better glyphs. However, this is not too bad for disc in my opinion. I just cast the spell with the glyph and got 1465 and 2343 in a two second channel for a total of 3808 mana. The 20% more mana ended 2 seconds later. So 4 seconds to gain 3808 mana. Second cast 1634 and 2513 totalling 4147 mana. So rough estimate of 4000 mana for a 4 second channel.
Without the glyph, i get 488, 585, 586 and 585 for a total of 2244 over 8 seconds. The 20% mana ended a fair 6 seconds afterwards.
So the value of this glyph is more for disc in my opinion as holy has 3 good majors and shadow would rather not leave shadowform. And esp. since disc can shorten the channel time even further with borrowed time and power infusion not to mention more haste.
My secondary spec will have this if it stays in its current form on the PTR, and i will use it when i know for a fact the tank or any other party/raid member isnt going to bite it, irrespective of my current mana (unless im above 90% maybe).

The glyph itself is good, it significantly enhances the mana return from Hym of Hope and also makes it quicker to fully channel, so essentially it's more potent and more reliable. Weather or not you use it is entirely up to you, but it's certinally a great option on it's own merits.

Can someone confirm that adding 2 seconds makes the hymn effectively tick 3 more time?
base is 8 seconds, 3 regen every 2sec, max 12 regen ticks.
If it becomes 10 seconds, 3 regen every 2secs,
max 15?
Seems stupid for me to ask that but... It's written nowhere, and considering the cost on AH in the first few days after 3.1, I want to be sure it's a good investiment.

Stupidly, blizzard decided to name the spell, and both buffs that it provides simply: "Hymn of Hope", despite providing seperate effects.
This glyph extends the 8 second buff (Hymn of Hope) that provides 20% mana by an additional two seconds. It does NOT affect the channeled regen effect (the other Hymn of Hope), making this glyph really a waste... a shame because I was looking at this one closely.
And yes, I did waste 100 gold to figure this out. I suffer so you do not have to :)

Although the 2 seconds only seems to increased the duration of the effect and appears quite useless. I wonder whether this is intended to give us a more effective use of "hymn of hope" and then popping our shadowfiends... given that our shadowfiends are built to give back mana as a ratio of our total, doesn't it make this glyph quite a nice buff because it enables our shadowfiend to give back a higher percentage of mana for 2 more seconds. Just some food for thought.

You raise a good point, and combining shadowfiend with hymn of hope does regen quite a lot of mana. However, the standalone ability is strong enough, and glyphing for this spell does not provide nearly enough benefit to the returns of your mana regen abilities to warrant the major glyph slot.
Now shadowfiend has a 1.5 second swing, so assuming it wastes no time moving to targets, it can get in ten hits. At 20K mana, each hit brings in 1K mana, and with the Hymn of Hope buff up, that number is increased to 1.2K. Because each tick of Hymn of hope refreshes the duration of the buff, you can have 8 seconds after channeling, plus whatever time you spent channeling the spell. This can differ depending on your haste rating, and if you needed to break the channel early. Usually this is in the neighborhood of 12-16 seconds of total uptime on the +20% mana buff, giving more than enough time to get in the vast majority of shadowfiends hits. Consider that because of the GCD, and because the buff only appears two seconds into the channel you could only have the mana buff 3.5 seconds after shadowfiend has been out. This gives an almost 100% uptime, without a glyph, providing an additional 2000~ mana. Adding in the glyph could allow an additional swing or two, but 400 mana every five minutes is hardly worth passing over the other glyphs for.
Thus extending the duration of this buff has extremely limited usability, and hardly warrants the use of a major glyph slot. If this were a minor glyph, it would be far more fiting.

This currently extends both the channel duration and buff duration to 10 seconds base, adding an additional mana restore tick if you channel the entire duration.
I am actually using this in my shield spamming disc spec since there wasn't another glyph that useful to me, and shield spamming is fairly mana intensive. The extra duration isn't too big of an issue since borrowed time will haste the channel by quite a bit. Pretty useless glyph otherwise though.

Come Cataclysm, this glyph will increase your chance to hit with Smite by 18%. While aptly named Glyph of Divine Accuracy, from now on I will call it Glyph of Lolsmite. Combined with
Glyph of Smite
we are in for some serious Lolsmite dps.

Must have Major Glyph for any disc. priest. 100% hit chance with Smite ensures you can get 5 stacks of Evangelism at all times, which means 15% mana restoration and 15% increased heals each time you use Archangel.
Add on the fact that Smite will heal a nearby target (near the enemy) for the same amount of damage it does to the enemy, (Smite Crits will count as a crit heal, and cause a Divine Aegis), and you got yourself a solid Major Glyph that has a massive use.

18% is not only raids, but it also works on lower levels. It grants priests reasonable leveling powers against red mobs.

Basically, it removes any need for hit rating, if you can spend some mana and GCD on smite.

Pvp Discs do not rely on this since they should have around 6% for their fear to not miss, therefore they are also pvp-hitcapped on smite

heals a 20% boost. Overall, it gives you a big damage boost and more efficient mana use without sacrificing healing. The first Atonement heal of a fight is often wasted anyways, especially if you like to pre-shield the tank and this makes the subsequent heals more effective.

Remember that if you plan on using this glyph in pvp that this doesn't effect some other quite important spells you'll use such as:
Mana Burn
,
Psychic Scream
and offensive
Dispel Magic
casts. So therefore you might be better off ignoring this glyph and just taking gear with the usual spell hit cap in pvp.

In Mists of Pandaria this glyph has changed. The increased hit chance to Smite and Holy Fire will become baseline for Discipline priests and the Shadow talent Mind Melt has been moved to this glyph.
NEW: Glyph of Mind Spike - When you deal damage with Mind Spike, the cast time of your next Mind Blast is reduced by 50% lasting 6 sec. This effect can stack up to 2 times.
Patch 5.2 Update: Glyph of Mind Spike only works from Mind Spikes that aren't instant casts from Surge of Darkness.
OLD: Glyph of Divine Accuracy - Increases your chance to hit with your Smite and Holy Fire spells by 18%.
(Prior to Patch 4.01, this was Glyph of Hymn of Hope - Your Hymn of Hope lasts an additional 2 sec.)

The lvl 45 talent allows you to cast instant mind spikes with incresed dmg.
These proccs also allows you to cast non-instant mind spikes that doesn't consume dots on your target so with many active vampiric touch application comes continuous proccs and you therefore precast mindspike and not consume stacks, following that FD,CL proccs during the cast-time.
Not groundbreaking at all, just wanna to spread the info. This would only find itself useful in PvP where you get spell-locked out of shadow while mind spikes shadowfrost aren't affected.
