about ~85 fire damage

An upgraded fiery weapon I guess?

Can we get confirmation on the damage/proc rate? 85 damage is miserably low, not even worth the price of the formula scroll.

Tried and replaced it quite quick. It doesn't seem to proc very often and hits for like 100 when it does.

The glow effect is the same as on Fiery Weapon, i.e. an orange fire glow.

These reports make it sound horribly useless. Maybe it does more damage to frost-type mobs?
"It's super effective!"

At its current state (3.03) I wouldn't buy this enchant if I was on fire.

As far as I know, and I may be wrong, this enchant scales with AP and (if you're a paladin or some such) spellpower. Again, I could be completely wrong, but it seemed to proc for ~120 on my warrior; I then tried it on my rogue, and it procced for ~240.

Considering the price and availability of shards vs. essence and dust, this is not a bad chant to level on (unfortunately).

I just bought a couple of shards for 12g a piece, 10 Fires for 200g. Then sold this enchant for 200g.

The price of the mats for this are pretty low (150g on my server) compared to the price of accuracy (600g on my server) and berserking (1200g on my server). I put it on the bear head weapons when I got them simply because I already had all the mats I needed for this one. It just looks cool.

I just got this enchantment the other day after the patch, I slapped it on a 2h Axe and played around with it for a bit. It seemed to hit for half of the white damage it procced off of fairly frequently. Other times it would hit for 50-100 less than half.

Okay, i wanted an enchant on my druid but my server economy is terribad. so all the mats for any decent enchant is way to expensive for me.
I was looking at different enchants that my guild had and came across this. I figured since i already had the mats and didn't know how good it was i would then test it out for my guild.
not only does this enchant look awesome its actually half decent.
It can crit, which is based off of your spell crit. So this is pretty nice for shamans or ret Pallys. However it only procs off melee auto attacks. I would say a very nice enchant for DW shamans. i could see it being good for a rogue who is stacking speed on his weapons (Fast weapons, haste, SnD)
Now as for its proc/dmg:
my recount caught it at about a 10% proc chance. with avg damage at 220.
(428 melee swings / 39 procs / 8589 total dmg / 7 crits - 32 hits)
my spell crit is 15.04% (my proc would crit about 17.9% of the time) close enough so that is how i assumed the crit chance of it is based off of ur spell crit. But i could be wrong. it might jsut have 15-20% chance to crit on its own. Im going by close numbers here.
Over all i would say its a pretty nice enchant. Prolly not good for a 2h class but SoC can proc off weapon procs, so that might make it worth while for ret.
i hope this info helps you guys decide whether or not you want to get it.

Posted February 5th, 2009, Patch 3.0.8
I did some testing with an addon called Procodile. It records information such as how many times it procs, average DPS of proc, total damage, and among other things.
I put this enchant on my rogue's
Fang of the Desolate Soul
, and unequiped my other dagger. I went to a level 60 target dummy (my rogue is level 68), and auto attacked with a few sinister strikes here and there.
- The proc only occurs on
white damage melee auto attacks
, so no Sinister Strikes, Heroic Strikes, Etc. will add to the proc chance.
-
Icebreaker Weapon
is the name of the attack.
- The damage of Icebreaker Weapon is
~200 damage
.
- It can crit for 150% damage, equivalent to
~300 damage
.
- Crit chance is equal to your spell critical chance.
- Procodile recorded that the average Procs Per Minute (PPM) is
~3.03
.
- The average DPS of the proc alone is
~11.71
.
- EDIT: There is no hidden cooldown on the proc itself. There is a chance you can proc Icebreaker weapon 3-4 times in a row if you're lucky.
-
Minimum, Average, Maximum Damage
is recorded
185, 202, 307
, respectively.

Any idea if the damage from this levels with Attack Power?
Also, its worth noting that the faster the weapon enchanted with this, the higher the dps will be with this (ie more procs = more dps).

Soo.. this enchant defently sucks and has no point whatsoever.. If I was YOU, and I stood with the mats to this enchant, i rather sell them and buy a 50 ap enchant..

There are alot of mixed results here but very few people are posting the weapons used so that we can compare.
Unless there is a reference point, like a patch note that somebody can point to, it is absolutely not a good assumption that this enchant follows "the normal ppm rules". First, there is no such thing as normal regarding ppm and second, the absence of the phrase, "chance on hit" does not automatically mean that an enchant or effect is a "proc per minute" instead.
I'd like to request that the players who posted solid data (thanks for that), also edit in what weapon was used for these tests, so we know speeds and such (some of you already have, but not all).
Weapon speed can make an amazing difference in the proc rate and the percentage of overall time you get an effect out of an enchant.
I did some testing on a much lower enchant (Unholy Weapon) and discovered an extreme difference in effectiveness of the enchant related to weapon speed.
My data and results for that enchant (posted in the comments for that enchant, if it matters to anyone) conclusively prove that it is not a "ppm" formula being applied but rather a complicated "chance on hit" formula that penalizes speed and grants increase %chances on big slow weapons. And that is an enchant that reads "to often inflict..." in the description. It says nothing about "chance on hit".
So this icebreaker (fiery) enchant might be alot better than you think if the crit ratings and proper weapons are matched to it.
In the case of "Unholy" most people think its a very poor enchant, but my data shows that once matched with the proper type and speed of weapon, its is extremely effective for low lvl players. I'm betting the same will be true for "Icebreaker"

people are really underestimating how much they buffed this, i have been using this in my OH (berserker MH) on my rogue since it was dirt cheap, and my OH isnt that great anyways... but honestly, its been better than greater potency, accuracy and exceptional agility at least, probably on par with mongoose at my gear level (armory phasespider on llane)
its about 7ppm for abut 220 damage, 310 crit, which is at least 1540 damage and 25.7dps, the total damage is pretty close to the bandit's insignia or darkmoon card:death's proc
but this can be affected by spell crit (roughly 8% more) and the 13% spell damage raid modifier
with all that this shows up doing almost 40dps (per hand), which is amazing considering how cheap it is to get, definitely the enchant to get before berserking (it is even better than most 2h enchants as well like for fury warrior's OH)

so after reading all the posts, i thought id give this a try. dont know alot about the number crunching, but heres what i got using Greed (2.6 attack speed) in my main hand, and Pride (2.5 as) in my offhand as an enh shaman. have this enchant on both. i have 21.64% spell crit. in 301 melee swings i had this proc 58 times, doing a total of 11482 damage and was 2.3% of my total damage done. this was done without blowing any cd's or using any trinkets. all i had up was totems. hope this info helps someone. IMHO this seems to be a decent enchant for the price.

Using Anguish I gave it a shot.
200 melee swings on the boss level practice dummy with no buffs, and then 200 swings with Seal of corruption active.
Relevant stats for me are:
5.89% melee hit, 7.36% spell hit
5.5% expertise
10.95% spell crit
706 Spell power
Just Melee, I had 177 attacks hit. It procced 33 times, 5.37%.
30 Hits AVG 195
2 Crits AVG 281
1 Miss
With Seal of Corruption I had 582 attacks hit. It procced 115 times, 5.06%.
93 Hits AVG 191
10 Crits AVG 280
12 Miss
Not sure if it is worth it or not, but will hang on to it for a while.

This enchant causes an
Icebreaker
Proc. According to this, Usada's data wasn't far off.
Exact stats are stated below, decimal amounts have been left in their current form for calculation precision, even thought you cannot deal a fraction of a damage point.
The minimum non-critical damage is
185
The maximum non-critical damage is
215
The average non-critical damage is
200
The minimum critical strike is
277.5
The maximum critical strike is
322.5
The average critical strike is
300
Based on Usada's theory of the critical strike chance being equivalent to your
Spell Crit Chance
, and assuming that this effect is not affected by any other variable such as spell power or attack power, the average damage of this effect can be calculated using the following formula:
300C+200(1-C)
The variable
C
represents your
Spell Crit Chance
in decimal form.
In order to calculate exact dps, we would also need to know the proc rate, which I cannot seem to find from any reliable source.

Tested out for ~30 mins vs boss dummy on geared (~6100 Gear score) warrior, here's some observations.
Uses spell table, so uses spell hit and spell crit.
Can proc a Main-hand
Deep Wounds
if the proc crits.
Tested over 3 sessison of 6 minutes in length and total damage of the proc was always ~1% of total damage done,
not
including extra Deep Wounds damage caused by proc crits.
The extra damage from Deep Wounds caused solely by crits from this enchant will overshadow the actual proc damage itself.
If I add the damage I gained from Deep Wounds with the Icebreaker proc, it amounts to ~2.5% total damage done.

Ok, so i have done very little of my own testing on wow related things, and this is my first time attempting to contribute to wowhead, but here it goes.
I'm using recount and a calculator to get my numbers. On my enhancement shaman, wielding Seven-Fingered Claws (
七指之爪
), and Nighttime (
极夜
). Both are 2.6 weapon speed.
I have 9.45% hit, 33.48% crit, 19 expertise, 11.82% spell hit, 21.85% spell crit, 1177 spell power. (those are all unbuffed numbers).
Attacking a level 80 target dummy, with no buffs, no weapon imbues, no totems.
200 melee attacks
15 misses
29 procs
for ~13% proc
Attacking a level 80 target dummy, no buffs, with weapon imbues (Windfury MH, Flametongue OH), and str of earth, flametongue, mana spring, and windfury totems up. Using my full rotation.
What I think are relevant attacks:
203 melee attacks
22 misses
32 Windfury procs
116 Flametongue procs
32 Stormstrikes
21 Lava Lash's
What I don't think are relevant attacks:
18 Lightning Bolts
21 Earth Shocks
18 Lightning Shields (from
)
53 Icebreaker procs.
Using just auto attacks it would be ~22% proc, witch seems like to big a gap from my other test showing ~13% proc
Using all my "relevant" attacks gives me a ~12% proc, witch seems to be much more accurate.
Using all my attacks gives me a ~10% proc, witch seems a bit low, but considering my small sample pool not unreasonably different.
So the only thing that I can be relatively positive of is that it can proc off of more then just auto attacks, and probably only off melee ability's (not surprising considering it basically says that in the description).
Edit: as a side note, it has done ~2% of my damage in every test and in game using.
Let me know if this makes sense to you guys, or if my numbers show something that I didn't see, or if I'm just flat out wrong (and why would be nice).

I can say with certainty that Blizzard put this in the game for one reason: to be placed on
Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros
. Having just gotten mine I put this on it immediately, it looks fantastic, complementing the weapon nicely.
