This proc is nature damage. Enh Shamans can scale with Mastery and can proc by Boulderfist. However, you will cause a terrible pull in the dungeon. The ball will move 40 yards from you and It will reach to the next pack often.

I just got this trinket 875il with socket. the proc, SUCKS, if the mobs are moving it wont hit anything.
Warning, this trinket loves to pull more enemies, no joke.

I have found this item to be very useful when healing all but the most challenging content. As a restoration druid it typically does around 20% of my damage, which is vastly more of a boost than a trinket providing just stats would give.
Despite the orb flying off with wild abandon it seems to only hit mobs that are already in combat, so it'll not pull extra enemies. It may break crowd control (CC) effects but the current state of the game is that use of long term CC is quite rare. If your group are using CC, try to position yourself so that an orb aimed at your targets will not also hit the CC'd mobs.
It can be triggered by spells like
wrath
, but not auto-attacks or melee abilities like
shred
. It's also triggered by the periodic damage of any DoT, this includes bleeds from melee abilities like
thrash
which is why it can be triggered consistently by bear tanks, even if they don't take the
galactic guardian
talent.
The rate of activation uses the "real procs per minute" system. This means that regardless of if you have a single DoT ticking or if you have 20 DoTs ticking, you can expect it to trigger the same number of times per minute. So there's no need to waste time or resources putting out more DoTs in an effort to make this trinket proc more often. In practical terms, as a restoration druid it's a good idea to keep at least a single
moonfire
active when using this trinket so that it'll get activated. Obviously if you have the time and mana do more to help provide damage, but know that it'll not trigger the trinket any more often.
The damage is increased by the passive +damage effect on tank and healer artifact weapons.

Bear here, I got this yesterday, already had aran's relaxing ruby, both are 860.
Gave it a try using them together in an easy m3 MoS to see how they compare to each other.
They were kinda equal to each other at about 6% of my total damage each.
Haven't had a problem with it pulling extra, even "above ship" where it would have been the worst place possible.
The "your target" is misleading, it doesn't mean the ball fly toward whatever you are targeting, it fly toward the mob that whose damage taken triggered it.
Even if the lightning ball is kinda small, it still damaged everything around me when it triggered and flew toward the horizon.
I did not try running with it to see if a mob could be damaged by it more than once, but that's not something that can easily be done in dungeon anyway :P
My conclusion : the "could randomly pull" is certainly a concern but it's damage being on par with the monster ruby makes it worthy of being considered, at least for me (tank) since I know for sure it'll hit everything I'm tanking

While using this in Return to Karazhan, the orb flew straight through a dense pack of unpulled mobs. They were not damaged, and remained unpulled. I've used it dozens of times in other dungeons without it pulling anything, but this was the most obvious case where it could have.
I'm now confident using this in all dungeons. It only hits things that are already in combat.

This trinket is very good in M+ shadowlands season 4 i am a bm hunter and it's like top 6 on damage meter like the same damage as barbed shot in a whole dungeon run. i have a 291 il of this and it does like 4.5k damage to enemies it passes through

Very nice item to have!
I got this after my Fated Raids on Castle Nathria the first week of Season 4.
This is the only link I could find for this trinket. Mine is actually LVL - 278, has +125 Agility, and does 3700+ damage.
During the actual raids, I also received three conduit upgrades.
The Equip damage will sometimes happen twice depending on the encounter based on mobs, boss, or the duration of the fight. Huge difference without the overwhelming noise or animation. The white orb just goes floating by.
Usually within seconds of this hitting my cats on Kill Command take the prey down.

I managed to grab a 288 version of the trinket on my first UPPR m+ run. While most trinkets that don't give a stat (proc) and instead have a damaging effect are usually not that great, I am surprised by how good this trinket actually is. Depending on how long and how AoE heavy a dungeon is, as an MM hunter this trinket makes up around 2.5% to 4.5% of my damage, sometimes doing up to a total of 1.2 million damage.
Some important things to note:
1) The orbs are fairly big, so you can easily hit multiple enemies with them.
2) The orbs always travel a set distance. The wording of the tooltip makes it sound like they will stop travelling once they've arrived at their target. This means that you don't necessarily have to target the enemy furthest away from you in order to hit every enemy. However, this also means that if you're too far away from an enemy (e.g. as an MM Hunter with high Mastery standing at max range), the orbs will despawn before they can reach the target.
3) The orbs can critially strike. Their damage is not shared or anything, meaning they deal the same amount of damage to every enemy they hit.
4) The orbs always travel in a straight line between your character and your target, meaning that it doesn't matter where your character is facing.
5) Probably the most important: The orbs move really slowly. And by slowly I mean REALLY slowly. If you're a ranged dps standing at max distance, the orbs can take up to five seconds (I measured it) to reach their target. This means that if you're in a dungeon or have an affix where mobs often change position (think an affix like sanguine) this trinket loses some value.
Other than that I was positively surprised by the trinket and upgraded it to 298 right away.
Oh, and I think this goes without saying, but this trinket is of course really bad in a raid / single target setting.

I got this at ilvl 304 today on my holy priest. I only pug m+, and my comment is 100% from a healers perspective.
I've ran three m+ so far. The trinket ended up (on average) being 7% of my dps at the end of the run. It seemed to proc once a minute and often the orb would travel towards a pack that moved out of it's destination. Very frustrating at times. A class/spec that is in melee would benefit more from this compared to a ranged healer. I'm thinking resto druid in cat form, paladin mw monk etc.
Not a terrible trinket.

Tested this out as a well geared demo lock. I use it at 298 ilvl and alongside
Fleshrender's Meathook
, also 298. This trinket has so far equated to anywhere between 5% and 10% of my damage in most dungeons (average being around 7%), usually hitting somewhere between 1.3m and 2.5m damage just on its own. The lower end tends to be in dungeons where there are fewer, smaller packs to kill (Grimrail being a good example), the highest I've had so far was in Gambit where you can pull big constantly.
As has been mentioned in a previous comment by Amalio, the orbs are pretty slow moving so at range you might lose damage to packs that are moved around a lot. As such I wouldn't bother using it much on weeks like sanguine because the constant movement will make it pretty hard to consistently hit mobs with the orbs. They come quite regularly, though sometimes you have none at all and then multiple orbs will come out in quick succession. As a lock I do stand at range, but not too far back as I want to build shards quickly whilst pumping out
shadow bolts
in between
demonbolt
procs and
gul'dan
strikes (my logic being shorter range to travel = quicker shard refills xD), and I want my
dreadstalkers
to hit my targets asap, because of this I do find most of my procs are hitting the mobs so far, I'd say around 10% miss due to movement or only hit partially. I also make sure to target a mob towards the centre of the pack to be sure the orbs that do proc travel as centrally as possible (as it would be a waste if it procced to something on the edge).
I've seen a disc priest use it and get around 500k damage from it too, though they argued that I as a ranged dps shouldn't bother using it as it's 'useless' at range. I disagree and definitely recommend at least trying it out and seeing how people like it for themselves. I'm going to quite happily continue to use it as I feel the damage coming from it so far is worth the use.

the drop rate on this is such BS 3 days of farming to replace a cheeks raid trinket that its terrible for running keys and ive ran this for a week straight nothing. so frustrating.

Got this in my vault (ilev 304) does 3-6% of my overall dmg as a MM hunter in mythic +... Also idk if it even has an ICD because I have seen it multiple times launch 2-3 balls within 8 seconds..
