Rumors say that when you get the Corrupted Ashbringer and equip it, you'll be friendly to the Scarlet Crusade. Then, you can trigger an event in the Scarlet Cathedral in Tirisfals Glade and grab a quest that leads to the formation of the Ashbringer, which will lead to Outland. Therefore, this weapon will not be attainable until the Burning Crusade is released.

The sword is real, but the stats that were (inaccurately) pulled from a non-legitimate test server have been widely circulated and assumed to be true (as they were paired with a graphic of the model extracted from the .mpq file).
This item is not "Not available to players", it is entirely falsified. The real Ashbringer is a legendary item featured in The Burning Crusade as a quest-line upgrade from the Corrupted Ashbringer from Naxxramas.

Ashbringer was the sword of Scarlet Highlord Mograine. He was betrayed and murdered by his own son, and was resurrected as one of Kel'Thuzad's death knights.
Looting
Corrupted Ashbringer drops from the cache of the Four Horsemen in Naxxramus.
Drop rate is independent of kill order.
Effects
"Call of the Ashbringer" is an effect whereby Highlord Mograine whispers to the wielder. Exact quotes:
-"I was pure once."
-"Fought for righteousness."
-"I was called Ashbringer."
-"Betrayed by my order."
-"Destroyed by Kel'Thuzad."
-"Made to serve."
-"My son watched me die."
-"Crusades fed his rage."
-"Truth is unknown to him."
-"Scarlet Crusade is pure no longer."
-"Balnazaar's crusade corrupted my son."
-"Kill them all!"
"Will of the Ashbringer" is an effect which makes you exalted with the Scarlet Crusade (although it does not appear in your reputation window) and hated by the Argent Dawn. Members of the Scarlet Crusade will face and kneel before you when in close proximity. This is effect occurs on equip; you regain your hated status with the Scarlet Crusade and normal status with Argent Dawn when it is unequipped.
Unique Scripted Encounter
Entering the Scarlet Monastery Cathedral with Corrupted Ashbringer equipped triggers a scripted event (see below for synopsis).

Lore
* During an expedition in Blackrock Spire, Commander Mograine (later Highlord Mograine, not the one in SM) took a unique crystal from a dead orc lieutenant. The crystal was originally from Draenor and was a "living embodiment of darkness." However, upon placing a spell upon it, it became its polar opposite-- a manifestation of pure light. The Order of the Silver Hand agreed to use the crystal to craft a weapon to be the bane of the Scourge: The Ashbringer. (This can be seen in the Burning Crusade in the Southshore inn in the Caverns of Time: "Thrall's Escape").
* Ashbringer was crafted by Timolain, an Archmage of the Scarlet Crusade. However, Timolain was secretely a member of the Cult of Damned, and this eventually became known to the Crusade, and hence, Timolain was executed (this is somewhat speculative). Kel'Thuzad then resurrected him as a Lich like himself. However, he was again killed at the hands of the Crusade, leaving only his phylactery behind (a phylactery allows a lich to regenerate himself over time if it is not destroyed). A large vile slime consumed the phylactery and took on some of Timolain's powers.
* Side Note: Timolain's Phylactery no longer drops from Large Vile Slimes as of patch 1.6. It may have originally been planned to be used in the Ashbringer questline, but when Naxxramus was in its inital planning stages Ashbringer may have been delayed as it would better coincide with Naxxramas content.
* The sword crafted by Timolain took on the name of its wielder, Scarlet Highlord Mograine, The Ashbringer. His title is derived from his uncanny ability to smite undead; Mograine could slay them so fast that they would vaporize, surrounding him in a cloud of ash.
* Highlord Mograine's son, Renault was a young member of the Scarlet Crusade. However, he secretly struck a bargain with Kel'Thuzad to eliminate his father. Presumably, in exchange Renault would take his father's place as commander of the Crusade.
* During the invasion of Stratholme, Mograine easily pummeled through waves of the Scourge. However, he did not receive reinforcements and was eventually overrun. Even after dropping his sword, the Scourge forces were not enough to kill him. Others in battle, presuming he was dead, sent Renault to retrieve his father's sword. Renault instead took up the sword and drove it through his weakened father. Such an evil act corrupted the Ashbringer. Renault left the sword and reported to his comrades that it had been lost.
* Kel'Thuzad then resurrected Highlord Mograine as a death knight.
* Renault's betrayal was witnessed only by Inquisitor Fairbanks, Mograine's advisor, who was trapped under a pile of corpses. A few days later, Fairbanks escaped Stratholme and returned to the Scarlet Monastery, recounting Mograine's cold-blooded murder to any who would listen.
* Renault had already assumed the position of Scarlet Commander at this time, and dismissed Fairbanks accusations. Fairbanks was taken into a secret room (where we find him in SM Cathedral) and murdered. Those members of the Crusade that heard and believed Fairbanks' story left the Monastery and formed the Argent Dawn.
* Renault is the current "Scarlet Commander" you face in SM Cathedral. Fairbanks was replaced by High Inquisitor Whitemane. Fairbanks was probably infected with undeath while in Stratholme, which is why you face him as an undead in SM Cathedral.
* During the scripted event (see above), Highlord Mograine's ghost appears in full dreadnaught. He confronts his son, kills him, and removes Fairbanks' undeath. Highlord Mograine despawns, and Fairbanks tells you the story of Ashbringer (which you have just read).
* Fairbanks goes on to tell you that the Corrupted Ashbringer cannot be purified-- the corruption is too deeply ingrained. However, Highlord Mograine's other, more pure son can craft a new Ashbringer. He resides in Outland.

Miscellaneous
* Ashbringer has been in the game files (and thus datamined) since release. It's been a popular "carrot-on-a-stick" that Blizzard has held in front of player's noses. Despite this, Blizzard remained silent on whether it was actually obtainable, leading many players to think that it could be obtained via a secret quest line that no one had discovered yet.
* On February 24th, 2006, Eyonix stated on the official forums that "It's true that currently Ashbringer is not in the game, although one day in the future it will be, but not until after there is an awesome legendary item for casters. ;)" -- a now obvious reference to Atiesh.
*Considering that many NPC's allude to the existence of Ashbringer, it is probable that it was originally intended to be in the game much earlier. The development team most likely delayed it so Naxxramas could be used to flesh out it's background story, and give casters a legendary item first.
* Ashbringer is mentioned by several NPCs and items:
-Shendralar Zealots in Dire Maul will tell you that Prince Thortheldrin will reveal the location of the Ashbringer if you defeat Nefarion. However, even once Blackwing Lair was released, the Prince's lips remained sealed. This was probably part of the original questline involving Timolain's Phylactery.
-Nat Pagles Guide to Extreme Anglin' describes the location of Ashbringer (flavor item)
-Narain Soothfancy
-Bardu Sharpeye
-Caretaker Alen
-Alexia Ironknife
* On the day that patch 1.11 went live, the official WoW China site had a picture of a paladin wielding Ashbringer (not corrupted). This image was removed shortly thereafter.

Ive heard that ashbringer can be fished up at north in the western plagued lands, Because: When archmage Timolain orriginally made the sword Ashbringer, he also made another gem/orb (the one that floats at the end of the sword). but when he was killed by the slimes, the gem was taken too and popped out of the slime, and down in a river (nat pagle also receives some information by fishing, becase some paper from a book also land in the water, and floated down the river and ended on his fish hook). Therefor the gem should be someplace at the end of the river(because it heavyer than paper)
So make sure to fish alot up there. You may find the gem :)

Actually, it is real.
This is the Ashbringer as it has been seen on GM's in the early (and I mean REALLY early) days of WoW. The days where the Arcanite Reaper was the best weapon ingame.
Please keep in mind that at the last time this weapon was seen, TBC was hardly more than a rumor. The "cleansed' version of Ashbringer has never been seen ingame ever since, so it is indeed most likely that the stats will have been upgraded.
But that does not make this weapon fake.

It wouldn't be called "Cleansed" Ashbringer. It's just "Ashbringer", once the corruption is removed. Therefore, take with a (large) pinch of salt.

For cleansing the blade, you need to remake it.. Fairbanks said that the old was too corrupted, so we had to find his 2. son and make a new..
The first was crafted from a evil crystal from a orc warlock, that came from Dreanor..
The only place I can think of is back in Illidans Black Temple.. Since he has taken use from corrupted fell orcs, I guess a VERY low droprate, maybe close to same droprate as Bindings or Eye of Sulf, just from some special mobs...
When you got that tainted crystal from fel orcs that original came from Dreanor, just like the the one the first Ashbringer was made of, then it will start a quest..where you will have to gather a lot of mats.. Maybe some sort of Black Temple mats.. Very sure that a lot of Primal Nether.. and a big load of Holy things..
The tainted crystal can maybe only be seen or taken from those who have the sword..

If the origonal crystal was taken from an orc warlock, then it seems very likely that the origonal orc warlock, Gul'dan may be in posesion of another. After the quest in Shadowmoon valley he was seen riding off in the direction of the black temple. It seems likely that he will be one of the bosses you face inside the black temple, perhaps droping such an orb.

The best candidate to cleanse or re-craft Ashbringer so far (according to WoW wiki) is
David Wayne
.
He's a weapon smith, he talks about being part of "something larger" and looks remarkably like Commander Mograine.
Can't wait to see this questline and this lore played out to completion.

The "crystal" is very likely to be a piece of a dead naaru, given Blizzard's infatuation with them. Remember how the NPCs in Old Hillsbrad cast a holy spell at it, and it "absorbs the Light" and the dark taint on the crystal vanishes, making it pure? See any parallels with the Horde Thrall questline in Nagrand, and the "shadow" naaru?
Just you wait. :)

Ashbringer exists as a file. It is UNNATTAINABLE as of now. In the future hopefully, Blizzard will continue the quest to forge the Ashbringer. Also, as it has been stated before, the current stats aren't correct. They shall be updated when the time comes. And the quotes whispered by the Corrupted Ashbringer are Mograine's words that intertwine with the Scarlet Crusade's actions, they almost completely bear NO relevence to what must be done to wield Ashbringer.
Directed at the Gorefiend debate: He IS a boss within BT. Whether or not he drops a crystal, that's up to Blizzard to decide.

Interesting bit relating to Ashbringer: In Old Hillsbrad, in the inn at Southshore, Mograine (the one you face in Naxx) is having a conversation with Abbendis, Fairbanks, Tirion Fordring, Isillien, and Arcanist Doan.
Commander Mograine says: Keep your voices down. There are strangers about...
Commander Mograine says: Brothers and sisters, I have called you here today to discuss the fate of Lordaeron.
Commander Mograine lowers his voice to a whisper.
Commander Mograine says: I hear things... things that should not be.
Commander Mograine says: The dead rise... Undead, from the frozen northlands. Whole cities have gone missing. I...
Commander Mograine says: I have heard that Northrend is lost...
Gasps can be heard throughout the room.
Commander Mograine says: We must stand at the ready. I have faced undead before. They are ruthless killing machines, devoid of any emotion or compassion.
Tirion Fordring nods.
Tirion Fordring says: Aye, I've battled them as well. We are ill-prepared as a kingdom to withstand such an assault.
Arcanist Doan says: What do you propose, Mograine?
Commander Mograine says: Propose? I propose that we prepare. That we prepare our loved ones, family and friends for the possibility of an undead holocaust.
Commander Mograine says: And there is this...
Commander Mograine unlocks the chest.
(the chest on the table opens and a purple crystal appears, called "Dark Crystal")
Abbendis says: By the Light! What is it?
Commander Mograine says: I have had this object in my possession for 10 years. Since Blackrock Spire...
Commander Mograine says: I wrested it free from the remains of an orc lieutenant - a dark caster... It is from their homeworld.
Commander Mograine says: Do not get too close. I laid a hand upon it once... Only once and never again. The memories of that day still linger.
Commander Mograine removes the gauntlet from his right arm and shows everyone his mangled hand.
Commander Mograine says: I surmise that this object is the living embodiment of shadows... darkness... It is a manifestation. It is a void.
Isillien says: I do not see how this evil artifact is relevant to the undead. We must destroy it!
Commander Mograine shakes his head.
Commander Mograine says: No, old friend, it is very relevant.
Commander Mograine says: Let me ask you this, brothers and sisters: Can good exist without evil? Can there be light without dark?
Commander Mograine says: And if that answer is no, then could it be possible that because this artifact exists, its polar opposite must also exist?
Commander Mograine says: Can you imagine what the material manifestation of the Light could do against the undead?
Isillien says: Nonsense, Mograine! It must be destroyed!
(Isillien blasts the crystal with a holy smite)
Shock then silence overtakes the crowd.
Commander Mograine says: It comsumed the Light!
Tirion Fordring says: Impossible!
(Tirion also blasts it with a smite)
Fairbanks says: Is... Is it getting lighter? Its coloration... It is changing.
(All start hitting it with holy energy)
(The dark crystal turns red and the name changes to "Light Crystal")
Commander Mograine says: BY THE LIGHT! Could it be? Could this be it?
Commander Mograine says: I must know... I will know...
Commander Mograine reaches out to touch the light crystal.
(Mograine gets hit with a lightning shock)
(Mograine sobs)
Commander Mograine says: I... It... It is beautiful. What I felt when I touched it... The Light coursed through me and I through it... It healed my spirit.
Isillien says: Your hand! It is healed!
Commander Mograine says: Let us never again speak of this day. Our enemies are many. They need not know we hold such artifacts.
(He closes the chest)
Commander Mograine says: I have seen it... From this blessed crystal we will forge a weapon. This weapon will hold inside it a piece of each of us... And when it is used against undead, it shall cast them down. And in its wake, it will leave only ashes...
(they all say "The Ashbringer...")

There is a great possibility that a new quest line will be implemented in WotLK, this is evident because Naxxramas will be re-vamped as a level 80 25 man raid.

the actual getting of this weapon will probably not be until WOTLK is realeased, and will be formed from the level 80 25 man naxxramas, and the Icecrown Citadel, so it would have actual stats and have greatly improved dps and overall Damage, hope this is right for what i can retrieve.

Well, I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned already. In the WotLK beta being shown off at Blizzcon players got a quest from Trion Fordring, now in charge of the reborn Order of the Silver Hand to retrieve an item from Utgarde Keep (the entry dungeon, an equivalent to Ramparts). This item is then revealed to be The Ashbringer, not a corrupted one. Whether or not this quest will remain in game, or if Fordring is intended to be the new owner is unclear.

Might be an interesting note to mention that with Wrath of the Lich King Expansion, the new 25-man Naxxramas could be linked to the forgery of the Ashbringer, or have some part with it's uncorrupting.

I haven't personally checked into that quest (although I will), but it might indeed be possible Tirion Fordring is intended to be the next Ashbringer. Nonetheless my personal thought on it is that the corrupted form will be re-introduced in Naxxramas in WotLK and the same quests as pre-TBC will be applied. And that indeed David Wayne will play a part in forging the new Ashbringer (the weapon, not the human ofc).
This is a short overview of how I personally think it might go:
1. You obtain the Corrupted Ashbringer from Naxxramas.
2. You wear it and go to the Cathedral side of SM.
3. You follow the whole scripted event and such till the point where they send you to Outland.
4. Now you go to David Wayne and the quest will continue where it left off pre-TBC.
5. (pure speculation) You will be sent back to Northrend with Tirion Fordring for the rest of the questline which might lead you all the way to Arthas himself.
And I do believe the questline will be that long as it's not meant to be an easy task to obtain a Legendary weapon.
Another possible scenario is that it completely starts from scratch with Tirion Fordring with the retrieving of the newly forged Ashbringer from Utgarde keep which will be a questline going on from 70-80 till the point where you can actually obtain the blade itself.
More or less how this might evolve (all of this is of course pure speculation, but possible):
1. Tirion Fordring sends you into Utgarde keep to retrieve the new blade.
2. The new Silver Hand Order keeps playing a role during the leveling process and you are able to obtain reputation with them through the questing and leveling.
3. At level 80 and (more than likely) obtaining the exalted state with the Silver Hand Tirion Fordring hands out another questline which will ultimately give you the Ashbringer. For example, after all your heroic deeds which you might have had to perform he will say something along the lines of "I'm unfit to wield this blade, you should become the Ashrbinger" Grats, you've obtain Ashbringer, 3 cheers and a pint o' beer!
All in all, I'm very curious about how this will come to evolve as personally I've always been fascinated by Warcraft lore and since WoW, the Ashbringer. We can only hope Blizzard will actually re-introduce such a fascinating factor in to the game.

Blizzard already said that due to lore, and power, neither the Uncorrupted Ashbringer nor Frostmorne will ever be obtainable by players. The best you will get is maybe seeing an NPC or a GM with it.
They stated that they do not want players to be able to weild such powerful weapons. Especially Frostmourne, keep in mind that there is a price to be paid for weilding it. You surcomb to its will, and it takes your soul.

Lol. Blizzard promised that they will "make something for us" about Frostmourne, so I'm sure they will. It's important thing, like Ashbringer. I think Ashbringer will be present too, maybe these swords will play an important role - Ashbringer - the Light, Frostmourne - the Void, the Darkness, like Mograine said, and i'm sure they will be associated with the Scarlet Crusade, Silver Hand and new Death Knight class.
P.S. Ashbringer was present in game with these old stats, and there was a quest chain for it.

It should be pointed out that there is NO indication that frostmourne is more powerful than the warglaives of azzinoth. Illidan took the blades from the demon azzinoth 10,000 years ago. Frostmourne is a considerably younger weapon, and while it is undoubtedly a mighty weapon, it is really a channel for the power of the lich king, where as the warglaives posses considerable power of their own. Also, it has been speculated (and seems a good possibility) that in the upcoming sunwell content, Kael'thas may drop the runeblade flamestrike, which is every bit as legendary as ashbringer and frostmourne.
评论来自
104591
I've heard alot of people saying that Frostmourne will be allmighty, and yes, it currently is. This is because Frostmourne is sort of enchanted by the Lich Kings will, and to get the sword you have to kill Arthas/The Lich King. And if you do that, Frostmourne will lose it's power or at least a very big portion of it.

1, Didn't the Naaru come to Outland to help Khadgar? If that is the case then the crystal can't be part of a "Dead" Naaru. And I'd really like to know HOW the orcs could kill one...
2, The Ashbringer is nothing (well, not as powerful) without the wielder, just like most lore-items in WC.
3, Frostmourne doesn't corrupt Arthas, the Lich King does it through it.
4, Ofcourse the stats will be improved for WotLK.
5, Getting The Asbringer SHOULDN'T involve getting the corrupted one (from Mograine in Naxxramas) because Fairbanks says it can't be purified, only re-crafted. (Maybe you've got to get Timolain's Phylactery, resurrect him and make him craft a new one, maybe with a part of M'uru a Naaru who will be the 2nd last boss in the 25man Sunwell instance)
Edit (forgot): Has anyone ever brought the Head of Nefarian to Prince Thortrendil?

and
During a panel at BlizzCon 2007, Chris Metzen and Alex Afrasiabi talked about a questline in Northrend focusing on Tirion Fordring. They mentioned plans to include the Ashbringer in the questline, though at such an early stage of production the Ashbringer's inclusion may not be final.
So it might be able to get in WoTLK though it is not confirmed

I read all of these posts and then became overwhelmed with therioes. You have to finish the event though. And than wear it wear it for all of these.
1. Someone may have tried this but...what if you bring the Corrupt Ashbringer to CoT and wear it during the event. (this is least likely but, hey, give it try if no ones done it.)
2. Talk to David Wayne. He might reconize the blade even though its corrupted. Since he crafts anti-demon wepons he might give you a quest/info on how to reforge it.
3. Farm Fel Orc bosses without it equip or with it (i doubt it matters) probably on herioc (blizz is mean that way.) Or maybe you must kill Illidan over and over like with Thunderfury and the MC bosses.
4. WotLK might need you to kill the Lich King. Since he is the greatest evil ever known, he might have corrupt cyrstal or MAYBE a shard of Frostmourne would work.
No matter what i pretty sure you need a quest from David Wayne, even if he isn't Morgaine's other son. The crystal would start the quest that would take you to David even if its for information. I mean reallythe guy makes wepons to fight off demons. And he thinks hes destined for more. The greatest destiny for a wepon maker is to craft the greatest wepon ever. And the greatest wepon for killing demons is none other than Ashbringer.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned this yet.
It's a really good theory, in my opinion, that the crystal at the heart of the ashbringer is a piece of a dead Naaru.
The shard is said to have come from Draenor.
Naaru are beings of pure light, but when they die they become their exact opposite, pure darkness. That is until they slowly regenerate OR, now here's the important part, they are subject to the great power of the light, such as the holy spells used on the shard by Mograine and co. in southshore.
So, a theory. Maybe, as the ashbringer contains part of a dead Naaru, they will have something to do with it's re-forging or cleansing. If a Naaru, probably A'dal in Shattrath, sees the ashbringer, they may recognise that it has been forged from a Naaru, and know how to cleanse it.
But another idea that stems from this: The ashbringer was forged from a piece of a dead Naaru, so to make another one, you would need another piece of a Naaru, but where from? There has been no indication that the Naaru will be present in Northrend, so if we are to acquire a piece of a Naaru, it will have to be from outlands.
OR, now here's an interesting idea, perhaps we could get it from Mu'ru in Sunwell Plateau. Here he must be defeated as a dark naaru, so maybe he will drop a "Dark shard" or something. You would then have to cleanse it with light and take it to David Wayne so that he can use it to forge the new Ashbringer...interesting stuff, ey?
I actually came up with these theroies while typing this, so there is nothing to really support them, but in my opinion, this would be a good way for Blizzard to impliment the clean Ashbringer into the game as an item. It could be a level 80 quest chain. We know that with the release of TBC, Naxxramas has been left nearly completely untouched, and Blizz must be kinda unhappy about this, as it was one of their greatest works. The same will probably happen with lvl 70 raids like Black Temple and Sunwell Plateau, so a quest chain that results in you obtaining one of the most legendary items in the game would be a great way to get people back into these raids, even at level 80. You could collect the corrupted ashbringer from Naxx so that Wayne knows what the blade should look like, get the "Dark shard" from Sunwell plateau so it may be forged, and then head over to Northrend and use it to kick Arthas' ass!
So Blizz, if you're looking for a way to get people back into lvl 60 and 70 content, and impliment the ashbringer into the game, there's your solution. ^_^

The orc may have just found the shard, probably not knowing what it was. We can't say for certain, but Naaru, like all other living beings, must die naturally sooner or later.

It doesn't exactly pertain to the ashbringer per say, although it is slightly connected.
Assuming that the crystal that's shown in the durnholde event in CoT is a dark naaru, I noticed something really interesting. When doing the Black Morass event, Medivh has 3 crystals that look just like the one in the durnholde event swirling around him.
So perhaps the naaru have had this all pre-planned. The opening of the dark portal, the creation of the ashbringer, and who knows what else.

Knowing that Mograine's spirit was freed from his body, it is unknown if Morgraine will appear again in new Naxxramas, or if Corrupted Ashbringer will drop again.
Some believe that Ashbringer is the Light's answer to Frostmourne, and that the two may eventually contend with one another- Frostmourne in the hands of Arthas, Ashbringer in the hands of Tirion Fordring or the player.
评论来自
Rozenberg
The crystal from which the original Ashbringer was created is likely related to the naaru, and may in fact be a naaru.
The naaru life cycle is one of reincarnation. When a naaru's physical form is damaged, it becomes "darkened."The naaru will persist in this state until they slowly regenerate their powers from the Light over many years, after which they will be "reborn" into their "Light" form again. The crystal shown by Highlord Mograine in Old Hillsbrad demonstrates similar properties: a holy spell was cast on the dark crystal and it became a crystal of light. Furthermore, the crystal was described as a living embodiment, suggesting that it is alive, or at least sentient -- possibly a darkened naaru. If the crystal is not a darkened naaru, then it is almost certainly closely associated with them, perhaps one of the Ata'mal Crystals.
Mograine states that the crystal is from Draenor. The naaru had not yet arrived on Draenor via Tempest Keep before the Second War, leaving only a few naaru as the possible source of the crystal—K'ure, who resides in Oshu'gun, or D'ore, who was injured in Oshu'gun's crash upon Draenor centuries before, currently interred in Auchindoun. D'ore himself tells the player:
D'ore:"
Without the void, the Light cannot exist
."
Which are suspiciously similar to words used by Mograine:
Commander Mograine: "
Can good exist without evil? Can there be light without dark
?"
M'uru's spark above the SunwellAfter Kil'jaeden's defeat at Sunwell Plateau, Velen and Lady Liadrin arrive at the Sunwell. Velen uses the remaining "spark" of M'uru to reignite the Sunwell. Liadrin's experience upon being filled with the Sunwell's energies is not unlike that of Mograine's when touching the Ashbringer crystal:
Lady Liadrin: "
Blessed ancestors! I feel it ! So much love ... so much grace ... there are ... no words ... impossible to describe!"
Commander Mograine: "
It... It is beautiful. What I felt when I touched it... The Light coursed through me and I through it... It healed my spirit
."
Their similar experiences, along with the new knowledge that a naaru's essence can be consolidated, suggests that the spark of another naaru may have been the crystal from which Ashbringer was forged.
It should be noted that M'uru's spark appears identical to the dark Ashbringer crystal, although this may be coincidental.
What is more, Blizzard mentioned that new reborn Scarlet Crusade will be introdused in upcoming addon - Scarlet Onslaught. And Mograine's second son might be connected with this faction as well as with the legendary blade

UPD
As WotLK beta started, players can create Death Knights on their accounts
During the first quest chain for this quest you meet Highlord Darion Mograine - Deathknight
So, it probably means that story of the Ashbringer in addon won't be connected with Mograine's son

Just for the record, Highlord Darion Mograine may or may NOT be the second son that was rumored to be in Outland pre-BC. He may be the second son, or he may be a previously unmentioned third son. I believe the ladder; I believe David Wayne is the unconfirmed second son, seeing as he resembles The Ashbringer and he is a smith, like Fairbanks described. However, nothing has been approved or disproved by Blizzard.

My guess for the 'pure' Ashbringer is that it will continue the plot around Naxxramas, but the level 80 version to be released in WotLK. A drop from the new improved 4 horsemen (Of whom Morgrain 'The Ashbringer' was the leader), kinda like the Atiesh - collect x crystal fragments then go see his 'good' son in outlands, to have a new weapon made.
Since it will have to created anew, maybe it will even be the first legendary useable by all classes - each with their own quest to recieve the relevant model. Just because it was once a sword, doesn't mean it has to stay that way :D
As for Frostmourne, I can't see that being a drop (lorewise at least) since it will eventually corrupt the wielder. Maybe that will even be part of the Ashbringer quest, destroy an evil weapon to create a good one.
Still would be cool to dualwield Ashbringer and Frostmourne. Chance on hit: Explode the target's head from the complexity of being hit by good and bad at the same time.

Errr...I don't think that Ashbringer OR Frostmourne will be in the wotlk, or wow.
Reason one: Ashbringer is a too powerful weapon and will be overpowered and people will whine, and blizzard - like always - will ignore it, and people would flood the servers/forums about it.
Reason two: Frostmourne will be a PAIN to make. Hungering Cold will most likely be its base, but the runes, the carvings, and there will most likely be a enchant looking thing on it, and I doubt blizzard will put so much effort in a single item. Thori'dal is most likely the designer team's best work, because they put 110% effort. and I doubt they can go further
Reason three: Frostmourne will be MORE powerful then ashbringer, and then it would either make a forum crash or something bad like that. then more people will complain and most likely be tired of the crap and leave.
Reason four: BLIZZARD ALREADY SAID ASHBRINGER IS NPC ONLY
Reason five: same reason for reason four, but with frostmourne instead of Ashbringer.
Bottom line: Facts are facts, and facts (blizzard) said that both frostmourne and ashbringer will be seeable, not touchable.
Thank you for looking at my post, and have a good day.

Blizz has said that the Ashbringer will be involved with quest chains in Northrend and will actually be used against Arthas in the hands of Tirion Fordring or the player(s)..Therefore it's possible that Ashbringer may be implememented as a weapon in game(probably usable only by paladins or warriors). Frostmourne is kind of hard to say whether it will be implemented or not since it would be: 1st: A pain in the arse to get(don't expect IceCrown to be piece of cake) 2nd: There would be a problem if all Death Knights of Paladins in the game had Frostmourne. :P

So... it's been confirmed that both the Ashbringer and Frostmourne will be implemented in WotLK right?
2 2-handed swords....both legendary
Now look at the new warr talent titans grip..dual-wielding 2-handed weapons
although underpowered on the beta i'm sure blizz will fix that
So its only a matter of time untill u see a Warr dual wield Frostmourne and the Ashbringer
unless ofc if blizz decides to make class restrictions to wotlk legendaries like illidans warglaives are only available to warrs and rogues
guess it'll be Ashbringer : Pally..ofc, and probably warr and Frostmourne: obviously death knight..and well warr..but that doesnt really fix anything so forget i just wrote that cause i cba to delete it >.>
i see no reason why warrs shouldnt be able to wield frostmourne or the ashbringer..so dual wielding 2 of the most lore-bound weapons in wow will probably be a matter of time

there are only 7 ata'mal crystal (one for each gem type except meta) 2 of the 3 crystals are named, the other 4 are a combination of the 3 primary crystals. no black ata'mal crystal exists, so the sword is a naaru/hope/some other supreme being of light
as for purifying it, the sword is purified by tirion fording when he awakens the nexus of light burried under lights hope chaple, all darkness is the sword is incinerated by the holy energy thus recreating the sword. the holy energy is still powerful enough to purify a sword corrupted forever after tunneling through the ground clearly showing that the being is not a naaru (they cant purrify the sword when your standing under one)
Tirion of anyone deserves to wield this sword more than anyone, for his holy power was fully blocked, but he on his own overcame that challenge, and went on to train his power all the way back to full, only to have his son killed. then one year later, he not only crushes an entire undead army, but awakens the most powerful being of light and purifies the Ashbringer when Darion Mograine tosses him the sword (tirion also finishes a quest giving 42000 rep in Ardent Dawn, The Silver Hand, and Scarlet Crusade simultaniously but doesnt reward a tabard to him)

already exists on M'uru's loot-table, and it's a melee DPS trinket. Several other "slivers" too, so your idea about a lootable naaru "shard" has precedence and merit.
However; I seriously doubt that a possible "new"or reforged Ashbringer could involve M'uru in any way, given Blizzard's reticence for re-visiting "old" content.
I liked your theory and I too would like to see "old" content repurposed, but I doubt forging a new Ashbringer will involve mounting a raid on the penultimate boss of an obsolete (by the time WotLK is live) instance.

I apologize if it has already been mentioned, but Darion Mograine (Leader of the Death Knights of Acherus AND the second son) wields the Corrupted Ashbringer until the Battle of Light's Hope chapel. He eventually loses control of the sword and, after discovering that Arthas sent him and his men just to die at the hands of the Argent Dawn, he throws the corrupted blade to Tirion Fordring. Upon touching Ashbringer, the sword is cleansed and Tirion uses it to injure Arthas. Arthas escapes along with any of his still loyal minions, and the Argent Crusade (A union of the Silver Hand and Argent Dawn) is formed. Darion then pledges his Death Knights to the cause of the Argent Crusade.
So, as far as I know, Tirion will wield Ashbringer at least until the defeat of the Lich King.

Gotta Be honest after reading all this lore and speculation about cleansing The Ashbringer I'm Rather surprised to notice no one has added this. The Stone that Was found in Blackrock Spire that was used in the creation of The Ashbringer was originally a very dark artifact but upon smiting it with holy light it began to shone bright and became a holy relic. Then when The Ashbringer was used in the slaying of Commander Mograine it was again corrupted from this Treacherous act. So is it not feasible then that the Corrupted Ashbringer can then be Smited again with holy light and Cleansed?

Now that this sword (and the corrupted version) is in the Death Knight event, blizzard really should give this a new model. It looks all blurry and ugly when compared to arthas' frostmourne. Maybe they should make it shinier, have an edge to the blade, or make the runes and stuff written in it clearer.

I'm so confused. Blizz has really ^&*!ed this whole stroyline up. So from the beginning(if you've gotten lucky enough to get your hands on the Corrupted Ashbringer) after attaining the Corrupted Ashbringer from Highlord Morgraine in Naxxrammas before BC you could enter Scarlet Monestary Cathedral, see a cool little event take place, and find out that you'll have to find Mograine's second son who's somewhere in Outland. Now we get to Wrath of the Lich King and we find that Mograine's second son, Darion, is not in Outland, but is now a death knight wielding the Corrupted Ashbringer.
1rst question: How the hell did he get his hands on the Ashbringer if you had it?
Then during the Battle of Light's Hope Chapel you get to see yet another cool event take place and see Darion toss the Corrupted Ashbringer to Tirion Fordring, thus purifying the blade. BUT, during a quest line in Utgarde Catacombs you are entrusted with a sacred relic and you give it to a cleric, who just so happens to be Tirion Fordring in disguise. But also, the sacred relic you had just so happened to be an uncorrupted Ashbringer. So where did this one come from? And why does Tirion not have the other Ashbringer Darion gave him?
So in the end we find that their are 2 Ashbringers? WTF BLIZZ! WERE YOU ON ACID?

Iregretnothing, the comics are detailing the entire storyline of exactly how it came to be. It is generally agreed that Blizzard has assumed that the blade WAS handed to him in Outland, and he released his father by stabbing himself with the sword and taking the burden of its curse upon himself. The Lich King decided to use this to his advantage and the son took the father's place. Then you get the whole quest chain for Death Knights. As to the relic in Northrend for the quest in Howling Fjord, Lord Irulon had convinced Tirion that the blade had to be transported seperately, in case there were any assassins on board the ships, that way a disguise that Tirion wore would not be hindered by a big glowing sword, that's obviously the legendary weapon, the Ashbringer. The Vrykul and Scourge just happened to capture the Paladins that had been guarding the sword, and thus you have to retrieve it with the dying blessing of the Paladin who gives you the quest.

@jourdemavia... As of 3.0 the Corrupted Ashbringer is no longer an aquiralbe item as it dropped off Highlord Morgraine loot table in the 60 Naxx. 60 Naxx is gone and Morgraine was replaced by Baron Rivendare as the new face of the four horsemen, and the 2 handed sword slot was filled with Armageddon. In the new DK starter even you see Morgraine get
wtfpwnd
by Arthas and then toss his Corrupted Ashbringer to Highlord Tirion Fordring and get cleansed. Ashbringer(corrupted or cleansed) will not be an aquireable item and the only cleansed one is with Tirion Fordring, Leader of the "Knights of the Silver Hand" and the newly formed "Argent Crusade".

I have an idea of how we may eventually obtain this weapon:
Most of us know that Highlord Darion Mograine helped Tirion Fordring defeat Arthas in the DK starting questline, so I believe that in the end, when we are able to fight Arthas, that there will be a quest available where if we defeat Arthas, Highlord Mograine will give you the Ashbringer for your heroic deeds. Or something like that, either way, I believe that someday we will be able to obtain the Ashbringer.

Seeing that Ashbringer will probably be the ONLY weapon in lore being able to match with Frostmourne, I will be surprised to see a player-usable version implemented before Arthas himself being killable.
However, with the link between Ashbringer and paladins, if a player-usable version will ever exist, it will be hard to believe that blizzard would either restrict such a powerful weapon to paladins (since really just 1 spec can use it, and you'll have like, 1-2 max in raid), or let other classes to wield it (that would be so against the lore). I'm more inclined to believe it might be implemented as part of the Arthas encounter (like the legendary weapons for Kael'thas), perhaps there will be a cutscene halfway through the fight where Tirion duels Arthas and the Ashbringer broke into pieces, while we continue to fight with the broken pieces. Who knows.
Anyway these are just pure guessworks, it will get more apparent as the game progresses. Let's just be patient =).

I can think of a way that Ashbringer may become obtainable by players in the future, though I dobt it will happen. Though there is currently only one Ashbringer, it may become possible to go back in time and collect the crystal used to forge the Ashbringer just as The Master's Key was obtained from Medivh in the past (though the pieces needed to be collected first) when the need to enter Karazhan arose.
Perhaps a questline will be implemented to forge a new Ashbringer (or reforge the current one if something were to happen to it... didn't Blizzard say they were planning three "acts" in the expansion?). It may involve going to David Wayne to forge it, or perhaps King Magni, if he was the one who forged it the first time (though this would be a problem for the Horde).
I don't really see Tirion giving it up any time soon, but a lot of players want Ashbringer to be obtainable, and giving it to us in any expansion after Wrath would be pointless.
While I would be eager for Ashbringer to become obtainable, I as a mage would rather see a legendary item for casters become obtainable first, seeing as when it comes to legendary weapons, casters got the shaft (or rather, didn't get it) when the ability to obtain Atiesh was removed.

I suspect that if Blizzard ever caves into player pressure and allows the blade to be used (probable), I think it would be a good idea to make the journey for the Ashbringer similar to the Gates of AQ event. That way only one person per server would ever have this unique item and it would force a great deal of cooperation between the two factions and player base as a whole.
Actually it would be nice to have a massive server wide event in general. Given that the AQ is gone and done with permanently now there really should be something to take its place.
EDIT: Darth below me makes a good point. However, I don't think it would be difficult for Blizzard to program in a "Bind on server" status for the unique Ashbringer if they were to do this. Well, at least I don't think it would be difficult... given some of the ancient bugs in the game it may be one of those possible but not probable changes.
EDIT 2: I must confess I didn't know that about the gong. Either way, they could still just make one Ashbringer per server. Thanks for the info zdouse. Did that mean a server could coordinate their efforts and have like half the high level population with the black bug?

When the Patch to kill Arthas is put in, Tirion Fordring will join you in the fight, at the end he dies or survives and Tirion gives you Ashbringer for your deed for killing Arthas and Ashbringer becomes a openable object by him, thus being Loot mastered.
Sure, go ahead and call me wrong, this was pure speculation ofcourse and im not saying it WILL happen, but it has its chances, being low or high.

I may be wrong, but as I've been told, Ashbringer is the rarest drop in the game. Suposidly, it can be dropped by the High Lord in the Scarlet wing of Stratholme. But its extremelly rare, and so nobody using the wowhead addon has yet gotten it, therefore the sourse being unknown in the databases. Don't take my word for it though, its just another theory. It may have even been released when the Gates of Ahn Quiraj were opened.

Alright, here's my honest speculation:
It is said that evil cannot exist without it's polar opposite: good. Right? I'm guessing that the only way we'll be able to kill Arthas is by somehow using the Ashbringer to shatter Frostmourne or cripple him (Like in the DK ending quest, how Fordring gives him quite a strong blow.) So either Fordring is gunna join in on the fight or we'll have some kind of uber quest chain to get it. This is purely speculation however and could possibly all be bull!@#$ but that's just what I think.

Imagine that there's a event (probably in the future) that the orginal owner of AB has died and his wish is to pass he sword down to people who wanted to kill LK, . The opposing factions will hold a debate to see who will use it to fight lich king. Here goes...
e
Thrall: I will wield that sword and rape LK!
Dark Lady: No thanks, i would have it for my own for what LK did to me
Bloodhoof: The thing is...do you have enough strength just even to lift it up? We do!
Rommath: LK devastated our city and i have yet to settle this so i shall have it.
Varian Wrynn: We have a grudge with LK and whats more the original owner is a human...
Magni: Don't belittle us dwarves, and bear in mind LK killed Muradin. That sword is rightfully ours
Tyrande: That sword is not safe within your grasp, we are immortals before and LK cant lay a finger on us.
Velen: All of you are too young and inexperienced, let this sword be in the wise old man's hands and see him own with it.
Because of this, all the races broke their alliance and continued on their own, independently, and blizz has another chance to release a new expansion - The fight for Ashbringer. Soon whenever you go you will see...Durotar- ORC territory
or Silvermoon- BLOOD ELF territory. hahas,,,,

Well the difference is that this weapon is more special. Unlike
most other legendarys in-game, this one has more of a story/background in lore. I mean the others DO have purposes of thier own, besides it's not often when you see people running around with sulfaras or thunderfury. ( But then again i didnt play durring the vanilla wow age ) Anyway, I belive that the ashbringer is a legend and just hope blizzard doesn't waste this one...but that's just my opinion.

I have a theory about the ashbringer. Feel free to rate this down or make bad comments because this is just a guess. The ashbringer makes you freindly with the scarlet crusade so i thought that in wotlk you could be friendly with the scarlet onslaught (A branched out version of the crusade that accepts people like death knights and shadow mages for those who didnt know) So this may lead to you finding Mograines other son as the onslaught is in northend and most of his family was involved with the scarlet.

it has been announced in Blizzcon that Frostmourne will not be obtainable, it is far too dangerous for anyone to weild and so they decided to replace it with
Shadowmourne
, Frostmourne will be destroyied by Tirion Fordring and will release all the spirits that Arthas has incased it within.
(Younger Saurfang will be released! Highlord Saurfang will have one less target to cleave!)
Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian might be added in Cataclysm for casters, i don't know but, maybe Archeology maybe uncover the pieces for the staff!

As awesome as it would be to have such weapons for use in game, i have to agree with that other guys post.
Seeing them all over the place would just ruin it.
If there were quests introduced where you could play as Tirion wielding the Ashbringer, like the quests you got to play as Arthas, that would be a good way to keep the lore going.

Fairbanks was probably infected with undeath while in Stratholme, which is why you face him as an undead in SM Cathedral.
Wrong. Fairbanks was left in Stratholme for 3 days then fled to SM. They thought Renault killing his father was blasphemy and killed Fairbanks hence why he is an undead. Fairbanks survived in Stratholme. I got this from the text at the top of page last paragraph:
Renault's betraya
l was
witnessed only by the unseen Fairbanks
, who could only listen in horror as Renault murdered his father.
Fairbanks remained there until he regained enough strength to leave the besieged city. He fled to the Scarlet Monastery where he told of Renault's actions to anyone who would listen.
Those who believed broke away from the Crusade and formed the Argent Dawn.
However, many refused to believe him and killed him for speaking such blasphemy and exposure to the Plague. His body was discarded in a secret chamber in the Scarlet Cathedral.

Dear god. FIRST we're stuck on who Corrupted Ashbringer is best for (ain't Thottbot grand?), THEN we're stuck on who's going to forge the second Ashbringer, THEN we're stuck on whether or not Tirion will give it to us, and NOW we're stuck on saying that we're not going to get it.
Bet in the next expansion, we'll be stuck on the differences between Shadowmourne and Ashbringer, which is better then which, etc.

This is what i personally think.
There are already enough legendary weapons in WotLK, we have the healer mace and soon will have Shadowmourne. In BC only two were released the bow from Sunwell plateau and the set of warglaives which count as one as its pointless having one without the other.
I seriously doubt that the ashbringer will come back at all, because blizzard likes to revamp instances and the occasional weapon like The Hungering Cold, but never the seriously legendary weapons like Ashbringer, Atiesh, Warglaives or Thori'Dal. Ashbringer has had its time and those who still wield one will be continually revered among their fellow WoW players.
I understand they are just theories and i have one of my own which i think Blizzard could have done with Shadowmourne rather than pull a new weapon out of nowhere. I personally think because as Blizzard has said they didn't want Frostmourne to take peoples souls, it should have been cleansed like Ashbringer and renamed a new legendary name which lore would say was its original name before it was corrupted so. As far as I know, Shadowmourne wasn't even thought of until around now when Blizzard wanted to add a new weapon and i think my theory would make a lot more sense lore-wise.
Thanks and feel free to comment
Ashbringer was never even released. What?

I have seen a physical in-game manifestation of a GM twice in the history of me playing this game.
The first time was in AQ20 at release the General and his waves were buggin out on my guild so we asked a GM for help. (back when they responded in minutes). The GM refused to believe the bug out and I asked him to come and watch. He showed up as a wisp and watched from a far.
The second time was in Org, I hadn't hit 60 yet and PvP hadn't even been released yet. I saw Tauren running around the AH jumping, he had on full tier 1 and was carrying this weapon. He had <GM> to the left of his name (not below). I have seen this weapon only then in-game, and never since. I also remember seeing the text on the item was red not yellow as it currently is.
Never forget that. I used to love WoW for the mystery aspect of it. Now I just read and see guides.

Back in 2010, a couple friends and I heard this from our friend Cootie:
A few guys were searching for Ashbringer and actually DIED.
We're all:
Yeah right.
So then we go searching for the droppable Ashbringer, or at least find a way to get it. About 66 hours *Yes, we searched and searched for actually about a week stopping only to use the bathroom* into the mission, we found a blue hole in the ground with what looked like CODING on it. Zanthie *Our Gnome Friend* jumps in yelling "LEEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY JENKINS". We soon followed. We fell and fell and fell for about 10 minutes. Finally we dropped into what looked like the exit of the Dark Portal, where you fight Pit Commander. Only there wasn't Pit Commander...or ANYONE for that matter! Suddenly it all makes sense. We fell into a glitch hole that lead to some dude's Private Server. There was a chest, we opened it, and there were 4 items: Frostmourne, the Helm of Domination (NOT THE OTHER ONE, BUT THE LICH KING'S HELMET), Corrupted Ashbringer and Ashbringer. We yelled "AW YEAH!" and split the items. Cootie got Corrupted Ashbringer, Zanthie got Ashbringer, and I got Frostmourne and the Helm of Domination.
Comment on your glitch experiences.

Okey now I'm just making this up but the upcoming Warlords of Draenor expansion makes me think about some possibilities about this sword.
1. We all know that The Dark Crystal found by Alexandros Mograine from a body of a dead orc lieutenant originated from Draenor, the homeworld of orcs.
2. It
may
be a piece of a dead Naaru that can regenerate over time (see
this
).
3. High Inquisitor Fairbanks implies that Alexandros has a son who
could
forge a new Ashbringer and he resides in Outland (description of this can be found
here
).
Now this part is just pure speculation!
We know that we are going to old Draenor which is the planet the Dark Crystal originated from and the homeworld of orcs. As of what we know, this is the time
before
orc invasion of Azeroth so they can't be found in Blackrock Mountain yet in the timeline of next expansion.
MAYBE
we can find this crystal (or at least one similar to it) and embark on an epic adventure to find this mysterious son of Alexandros in Draenor to forge a weapon
SIMILAR
to Ashbringer if no even Ashbringer itself. This quest
COULD
be a new legendary questline in WoD and
maybe
it would be the questline for Paladins (If I remember correctly, I read about the new legendary questline being slightly different for every class, please correct me if I am completely wrong. Anyway, info about legendary questline can be found
here
)
In my opinion in the current and the original timeline we have been playing for years now, obtaining Ashbringer would ruin the story. In WoD we are going to a completely different timeline where Garrosh tries to bring back Iron Horde to current and original timeline so why couldn't we bring back some artifacts too? Only thing which might ruin our chances obtaining new weapon of legendary caliber would be the excistence of Alexandros' son in Draenor of that time. Could've he been born by that time already? Could he be in Draenor at that time? I can only hope that Blizzard decides that these events can actually happen.
Will we get our hands on something that awesome? Only time will tell! :)

I'd love to see this weapon become a reality for players in future expansions. i.e Blizz could introduce a Legendary Quest Line in which there is an epic battle that fatally wounds Tirion. As he is dying you carry out quests for him (a basic example could be - killing those who were responsible for his injury - this could be linked to a Raid like Shadowmourne and ICC) and at the end of the quest chain, Ashbringer could be a reward.

So I decided to look up a bit on this item and read some of your comments about the theory/theories of ever getting this weapon. And I saw someone claiming that the center piece crystal in it was from a dead Naaru.
Now we can definately, so close to WoD, determine that Ashbringer is and was not obtainable in TBC's Outlands.
Though as a guy here said, the shard is said to have its origins from DRAENOR, and well, in just some weeks we are to travel back approximately 35 years back in time, to Draenor, and maybe not until now Blizzard may actually be planning to bring this weapon into the game for players to obtain? Maybe the NPC, who is currently holding it, will die in WoD or there will be some kind of legendary quest or whatever for players to obtain it? Or a secret quest in Draenor to obtain it? After all, the piece in the weapon came from Draenor and now we're actually going THERE, and not to "Outland". Maybe now players can forge it, I don't know but it feels like there is a possible chance here, unless Blizzard has totally forgotten or don't want to make this weapon available for players.
What do you think? I will definately keep my eyes open for anything that might seem like a clue about the Ashbringer in WoD.

This famous sword will continue its journey in the hands of a new champion, having passed from Alexandros Mograine, to his son Darion, then to Tirion Fordring, and now to you.
In the player's hands, you will have several customization options available for Ashbringer, including several colour variations, an empowered 'master' version, a flaming ashbringer made entirely of fire, a shattered ashbringer held together by strands of lightning, and finally a corrupted, evil-looking version.
