This item will appear in your mailbox shortly after you've completed all of the quests in Shadowmoon Valley and received 空谷幽兰月影残. Here is the the attached mail text:

Efforts in Shadowmoon Valley are well
in hand thanks to you efforts. Our
scouts have been able to gather quite a
bit of intelligence that you may find
useful. These locations may contain
considerable resources important to the
war effort.

Upon right clicking the item, approximately 40 treasure locations are added to your Shadowmoon Valley map. When visiting these locations, you will most often find specific lootable items on the ground, similar to the lost treasures of Pandaria. Looting/opening the treasure items/caches normally awards you with Garrison Resources (between 10 and 20 on average), but often also includes an extra, such as a rare quality item or some Draenor herbs. Most of the locations are very easy to reach, others require a bit of careful jumping to reach.

If you are interrupted while opening one of the treasures, the cache will despawn but you will receive the lost contents in the mail later.

This item is sold by 格拉吉斯 in Stormshield (will update with horde vendor info later). These will add the locations of treasures to your zone maps. He'll only sell them after you've completed the main zone quest line.

The horde maps are sold by 瑟卡 in Ashran horde side, Archaeology fragments dealer, on the outside of the building that houses the archaeology trainer. In order to qualify for the treasure maps, you need to complete the chapters for that area.

The box labeled 'Cargo Of The Raven Queen' is actually *on* the harbor dock itself. Don't waste the half hour or so I did by swimming around in search of it.

When you take treasures off the map, they will disappear on your map. As such, if you can see a treasure on your map, that means you haven't picked it up yet. Now, *finding* how to get to it may be the tricky part!

Also, due to Horde not having the ability to complete this achievement (the quests/storylines here are Alliance-only), they are unable to buy this map at all at their dealer. In addition, while this was not originally the case, these maps are soulbound. Fortunately, there is a chance of a garrison quest that will give you maps of specific areas... including Shadowmoon Valley and Frostfire. So both Horde *and* Alliance can get the full collection with patience and garrison grinding.

Can anyone confirm, are these just the normal treasures you could see with an addon (eg. Handynotes), or do they spawn different, "personal" treasure in new locations for you to find?

Very bummed, I bought the in-game version, saw the marking on them mini-map, led me to one and got it. Today, nothing, nada, zip, fuhgeddaboutit. Uh, why did it work yesterday but not today? Have I missed something?

FWIW, a /reload cleared that issue up (althugh it never should have happened in the first place).

Check your add-ons. I had to disable them all and then re-enable them. Didn't figure out which, but one of them was breaking the minimap arrows.

These are very helpful to send to alts. Many of the treasures you get as soon as you land in Shadowmoon Valley can give 20k experience. My first alt hit 91 very quickly.

If you use TomTom and would like to make it show arrows to these treasures, simply go to the zone you are hunting in and paste this into the chat:

If setup correctly you will have an arrow and icons on both map and minimap to indicate where exactly the treasures are.

Note that you need to have used this map item to unlock the map icons for this macro to work.

This and the treasure maps for the other Draenor regions were made BOP in a hotfix dated 12/03/2014.

The interesting thing is that you can sell it to vendor exactly for the same price (100g).
In other words - you buy it for 100g and sell it for 100g, which is not so for most of other items in the game.
This is of course relevant in case you did not use it yet, but bought by mistake.

It seems like this does the same thing that addons can do for you, so if you want to save 600g (100g x 6 maps), you can just install something like HandyNotes_DraenorTreasures. Additionally, you don't have to worry about the level requirement to have the addon for your alts. The addon I mentioned also tells you if the treasure is a cave or something tricky. However, 600g isn't that much, so perhaps you may feel like buying the maps anyway.

If you're not sure whether you've bought/gotten a particular treasure map, here are the script commands to find out (you can also buy and re-sell maps, but apparently at least one of them is/was bugged and won't error if you've used it already):

I got one of these today and used it, then I looked on my map and couldn't see anything.

This is when I decided to log Wowhead and check out what this thing does.

From reading the comments on here I am presuming that these Treasure Maps just pin-point treasures etc that Handy notes shows on your maps (links below).

If this is the case then over a period of a few weeks or a few months you would receive a little tidy sum of money if you sold these every-time you earned one from follower missions. even if 100g isn't that much for you then I suggest you bank them and then sell them once you have a stack of them. 100g isn't much, but 2k is a little better from saving up stacks.

Also with the add ons below. if you have not installed them yet then do so, as these can speed up your questing in zones a lot faster. Each piece of treasure, you have to run past, more or less when questing in zones. These can actually build you up a full level per zone as most of them give xp when collected.

Just as a note, this map is actually obtainable as Horde from the new Exploration missions in 6.1, before, it was previously unobtainable due to the lack of completable quests in SMV that would have allowed you to purchase one.

If you want a quick and simple copy and paste method of seeing which of these you have "learned", try this....

It will print a yes or no for each zone. And, yes, from what I have read, Alliance can get Frostfire and Horde can get Shadowmoon through follower mission (good luck).
If there is an equivalent quest number (or 2) for Tanaan, I have not found it yet, but if I do, I will update it here. After brief looks for the information, those may be handled differently.
