Buying the Special Chicken Feed will allow to make a chicken your pet. Simply /cluck at the Chicken until you receive the Cluck! quest, then /cheer at the chicken right before giving him the Special Feed. Then you'll have chicken pet all for yourself!

Has a horde tried buying some of this feed on the cross faction auction house to complete the quest? It doesn't seem to be BoP so it seems possible. Obviously you could ninja the chicken from an alliance... but that might take a while.

As a horde, It's useless to buy the chicken feed, but you can ask an ally friend to finish the quest for you (once it's done, anyone can loot the egg). And if you're on a PVE server, just create an ally and do it by yourself.

Also, you can only get one!

You can get the quest from Westfall chickens, Redridge chickens, and Southshore chickens (have yet to try any others), but once you have one chicken you cannot get another. Even though your pet is named Westfall Chicken you can only have one. The chicken egg will come up as Already Known. :-(

As of the latest PTR build (9658), you can also purchase this feed from William Saldean in Brill for Horde characters interested in obtaining the Westfall Chicken. Obtaining the pet is the same the Alliance would... basically, spam the /chicken emote at a nearby chicken, give it some feed, then loot the egg.

Someone shared this quest in WG and I accepted it. I clicked on Show Map and it showed a location in Westfall, so I went to Westfall (as horde) before reading the comments here on wowhead. I am a rogue so I stealthed through IF and SW from Gnomregan because I happened to be there collecting schematics, to Westfall. I had a pair of Cats-Eye goggles with a Mind Amplification Dish attached, so I met up with Farmer Saldean and mind-controlled him. The MC worked first try. Unfortunately he didn't want to sell me any special chicken feed. But I was in a merciful mood I guess and didn't slay him where he stood.

Still works in Westfall. Just make sure you scroll down to buy the feed from Farmer Saldean.

I think this only works on chickens labeled 'chicken'. I have gotten it before on 'chickens' but just tried on 'white chicken' in Org and it didn't work. Must have /chicken'd 100 times - twice! Can anyone confirm this?

I think the rats ate all the chickens in Brill. I did find some chickens at Cold Hearth Manor and got an egg.

As of patch 4.0.6, there are no longer any 鸡s in Brill (Tirisfal Glades - Horde). This may be due to Brill no longer looking like an Alliance village, and now looks like an Undead mad scientist gravetown. William Saldean * sells the 特殊的鸡饲料 here for Horde. Similar other critters appear to be missing as well. Animal experiments anyone? KERZAP!

*After scouting around outside of town for a bit, I've found one lonely 鸡 at coords 58.80, 50,59 patrolling a rectangular pattern around some gravestones.

**A second solo 鸡 is strutting it's stuff near the zeppelin tower (61.80, 57.50). No other 鸡s around Brill.

So basically find one of the 鸡s in any zone, type /chicken at it a bunch of times until the text says "Chicken looks up at you quizzically. Perhaps you should inspect it?" leading you into the 咕咕嘎！ quest to get your free 鸡蛋 pet. It is advised to buy one (1) 特殊的鸡饲料 from the Farmer before starting this quest if away from Brill or Westfall (if Alliance), as you can do this freebie quest in any zone with a 鸡. Once you have the quest + feed, type /cheer at the 鸡 before turning in your quest. The 鸡 will get an odd look at drop an egg for you to loot the new companion. Enjoy!

*Update for patch 4.3: Method used is Hunter Tracking and use of macro to /target chicken, pausing to allow random mobs to load, carefully going over all of the land around the Brill village, to the range of Undercity and surrounding circular area.

Just as a special note and to clear up any confusion, the above quest advice does not work on any 机械小鸡/作战小鸡/燃灰小鸡/逃走的小鸡/丹莫罗小鸡/受惊吓的小鸡/故障的作战小鸡/变异的灌木小鸡 nor the new 白色小鸡s found in Orgrimmar/Stormwing nor anything else that does not plainly say "鸡". To prevent NPC animals from killing one, typing the /cheer emote at the chicken a few times turns it friendly green and it cannot be killed by other NPCs.

**This is a still valid posting concerning the Horde chickens of Brill (or limits thereof), as it doesn't discuss chickens found elsewhere in Tirisfal Glades. The quest item seller is located in Brill (特殊的鸡饲料 anyone?), hence the post is to assist any Horde (and even Alliance) wanting to complete this quest quickly without the need to farm, ahem, farms for stray chickens. Especially since that still valid post contains VERY helpful links for the quest itself, hint hint. =)
