Gear and Stat Prioritization
These are mostly
Stat value, your actual stat weight will fluctuate depending on how much you have of each stat, but generally you'll want your stat ratios to look like this:
Crit > Mastery >= haste > Vers
To clarify a bit, Critical Strike will always be our best throughput stat, mastery is a good runner-up due to the recent scaling change. Haste is somewhat needed without
due to the increase procs of and it will grant fueling us with more fury to spend. Versatility is also a stat to keep an eye on, mostly in AoE situations, the reason for that is that the more spells you use that are not the lower the value of Crit and Mastery become making Versatility a strong contender by default.
To get accurate results the best way will be to
produce your stat weights using SimulationCraft
following this quick and easy tutorial. More on that below.
Notable stat strengths and weaknesses:
Much of crit's value comes from
's refund mechanic, so any situation where
becomes less important so will crit.
Crit's value is significantly increased when using
, as the extra fury granted by your
no longer decrease the amount of time you can spend generating fury with
Haste doesn't really help your burst AoE since it doesn't increase the damage of your
, so for that reason you may want to significantly devalue it for dungeons.
Mastery's value is significantly increased when using
but will not realistically outweigh Crit.
Best in Slot
Best in Slot item list are mostly pointless with the many variations of item level (warforged & titanforged) or extra sockets available to you in Legion. The best item available to you might not always have ideal stats but will still be an upgrade. For that reason it is important to be able to recognise the actual value of an item. Addons such as
can greatly help with such a task.
Using Pawn Addon
Pawn is addon for quick evaluation of items based on stat weights
provide. You can
produce stat weights using SimulationCraft
and import them into Pawn, and all items (except for trinkets) will quickly and fairly accurately be scored in value for your character. It will also clearly indicate when something is an upgrade and by how much. You can use Pawn to decide whether you should use a new item, what bosses to use your bonus roll coin on, and more.
You should try to simulate stat weights from your character somewhat regularly after getting upgrades to keep Pawn as accurate as possible.
Note: Don't use the default pawn scale, it is very inaccurate.
Recommended Nighthold Gear
Note: A number of those items can be replaced by high ilvl mythic+ items.
Recommended Emerald Nightmare / Trial of Valor Gear
Note: A number of those items can be replaced by high ilvl mythic+ items.
If you have
you will always want to use it, Angers is by far the best legendary in any situations for Havoc Demon Hunters.
Your second legendary of choice will be between
not too far behind.
Important note for
with the 7.2 changes, Moarg is roughly 1% damage behind Cinidaria on pure single target which obviously makes them the best choice on any boss where you can bounce your to multiple targets. Obviously if using the bracers you will want to also spec into and .
AoE / M+
For any sort of sustained AoE or M+ situations
will be 2 extremely strong legendary as well.
provides strong synergy with
As for the other legendary available to Havoc Demon Hunters.
good legendary, good stats but sadly, it will not compete with the ones listed above if they are available to you.
not bad by any means but once again, not desirable either if you have any legendary listed above.
got a nice buff in 7.2 but they still fall short, the amount of targets necessary to make the boots a desirable legendary is too large / none existent.
new 7.2 crafted legendary, very cool effect but not very strong in a raid setting. They will however be really strong to farm the Broken Shore efficiently if you can afford them :).
The famous 2min meta build
The legendary shoulders will have their own paragraph because their is a lot to consider here. First of all,
is a good legendary but it comes with a price to pay. What this means is that contrary to the other legendary listed above, to make the shoulders and the 2min meta build work, you will also need a combination of trinkets and relics. What this boils down to is the following: In order to sync your cooldown and make the 2min meta build work you need to take a DPS loss in a trinket slot as well as one or two relic slots. With that in mind, the combined DPS loss of the relic(s) and the trinket needed to obtain the 2min build ends up not being as powerful as the throughput provided by other legendaries. Blizzard got the perfect name for this item.
Similarly to the armor section above, trinkets will greatly vary in strength depending on their ilevel or extra sockets.
For trinkets of different item levels you will likely want to simulate them using
to discern which is better.
Also consider that trinkets with single target-centric procs with only a small advantage over a stat or AoE proc trinket will tend to lose that advantage when additional targets are present.
For quick reference, you'll generally be aiming to get any 2 of these trinkets at as high an item level as possible. This is just a list of particularly good trinkets, other trinkets
an option and item level is very important when picking trinkets.
Various World Quest or
trinkets (crit or mastery ideally)
You can also use this

Finding Gear on Wowhead
From simple recommendations to advanced filters, Wowhead can help you find the gear you want.
is a great way to search for gear if you are new to Wowhead's filtering system.
Choose what item category, gear slot, and class specialization you're interested in, and it will return results for you. You can further narrow it down by source--including gear from LFR and heroic dungeons.
You can find the Item Finder via Tools > Item Finder or Database > Items > Item Finder.
returns personalized gear suggestions for you and shows which content has the most upgrades.
Simply load up the
with you preferred character and it will list gear recommendations in a 20 ilvl range for you. It will also list how many gear upgrades each boss has so you can plan out bonus rolls. Finally, the character planner will perform an audit and let you know if you have any missing enchants, glyphs, or gems.
If you have a character in our
which is great for tracking vanity collections and viewing your character in our 3D modelviewer, you can click on the "Planner" button in the header to access the tool. If you don't, you can just enter your information in at Tools > Character Planner.
Wowhead utilizes a powerful system of item filters to narrow down the gear you need.
, you can enter in some basic options at the top--the name of the item, its item level, the level the players needs to be. The "Usable by" dropdowns cover factions, class, and role.
The dropdown menu right above "Stat Weights" opens to display a variety of advanced options. These cover the following:
General item info such as Added in Expansion/Patch, BoE/BoP, Unique-Equipped, Class-Specific.
Stats: All primary stats, secondary stats, defensive stats, and weapon stats.
Source: All in-game sources, ranging from raid difficulties to the Black Market Auction House to sold by a vendor.
Miscellaneous: Many of these filters are not relevant to equippable gear such as Crafting Reagents and Toys, but you can filter for items that are currently obtainable.
Once you've selected a filter from the menu, click on Apply filter for search results. You can repeat the process to filter for multiple criteria at once--for example, Agility gear that is found in Mythic Foundry.
Over on the right-hand side of the page, you can select a particular Gear Slot or Quality to narrow results even further.
Finally, you can quickly view a subset of items at once using the Database Menus. Head to Database > Items and mouseover the Weapon and Armor options for quick links to gear arranged by armor type and slot.
