Blackrock Foundry Raid Overview
黑石铸造厂
is the second raid of Warlords of Draenor. This guide provides an overview of the loot, rewards, bonus rolls, raid unlock schedule, and bosses in
黑石铸造厂
! When Foundry goes live, it will also link to all of Wowhead's detailed strategy guides and Method's Mythic Foundry guides.
Blackrock Foundry Basics
黑石铸造厂
has 10 Encounters across four wings:
Slagworks
格鲁尔
奥尔高格
Blast Furnace
The Black Forge
Hans'gar & Franzok
缚火者卡格拉兹
克罗莫格
Iron Assembly
兽王达玛克
主管索戈尔
Iron Maidens
Blackhand's Crucible
黑手
Blackrock Foundry has four difficulties: LFR (25 players), Normal (10-30), Heroic (10-30), and Mythic (20). The loot ranges between ilvl 650-695 and gear can be acquired for every slot. This includes Tier 17 gear with set bonuses.
All four raid difficulties do not share lockouts.
Blackrock Foundry is non-linear; instead, it is a winged instance. This means that bosses do not get progressively harder as you go from Wings 1 to 3--rather, the bosses are meant to be equal difficulty with the end-wing bosses (
Blast Furnace
,
Kromog
, and
Iron Maidens
) tuned harder.
The item level requirement for LFR is 635--learn how to hit this level with our
LFR gearing guide
.
The entrance is located in northern
戈尔隆德
by 51.4, 28.7,
. The closest flight path is
奥术师温德波普
and there are no nearby repair vendors, unlike
悬槌堡
.

Quick Tips for Blackrock Foundry
We've also got our Quick Tips guides for Blackrock Foundry for Melee DPS, Ranged DPS, Healers and Tanks! These guides don't give you an in-depth discussion of every strategy and every ability, they just give you what you need to know to get through the encounter largely unscathed.
Quick Tips Guides:
Ranged DPS Quick Tips for Blackrock Foundry
Melee DPS Quick Tips for Blackrock Foundry
Healer Quick Tips for Blackrock Foundry
Tanking Quick Tips for Blackrock Foundry
We also have database pages for each boss, which can be found by searching the database, accessed on
黑石铸造厂
, or our strategy guides. Here's an overview of what you can find on the boss pages:
Maps:
The center of each raid page contains all maps with markers for each boss. You can swap between floors via the option at the top right of the map. Clicking on the map enlarges it.
Bosses:
The "Encounters" section lists all the bosses found in the instance. Clicking on a boss brings up a page specifically for that boss which contains the in-game Dungeon Journal, Encounter Tips, LFR, Normal, Heroic and Mythic loot. Encounter Tips are new for Warlords--they give tldr information on important things each role should remember for a boss.
Spells:
From the "Dungeon Journal" tab on a boss' page, click on a spell to see how hard it hits in each difficulty—LFR, Normal, Heroic, Mythic. Just select the difficulty right underneath the spell tooltip on the page.
Loot:
The "Items" tab on the "Related" section of a Raid page breaks down all of the loot, split by difficulty. You can view the loot for a particular boss by visiting that boss' specific page too. On a boss' specific page, you can filter for loot that is appropriate for your specialization--just click on the class icons right above the loot lists.
NPCs, Quests, and Achievements
are also tracked in the Related section.

Armor
Armor pieces (Helm, Shoulders, Chest, Wrist, Hands, Waist, Legs, Boots) are more versatile than in the past. Their primary stat (Agility, Strength, Intellect) changes based on your specialization so you do not need to collect multiple items for the same slot. If you have a Tier 17 set item, the set bonus will change based on your specialization as well.
These are the bosses that drop pieces for each armor type:

Tier 17 Bonus Rolls
As in Mists of Pandaria, you can get additional personal chances at loot via bonus rolls.
Loot won via a bonus roll is for your selected loot specialization. This is mostly important for non-armor pieces (weapons, trinkets, necks, capes, rings) where there are unique stats for tanks and healers.
钢化命运印记
are the new bonus roll currency in Warlords of Draenor.
Each week you can obtain 3
钢化命运印记
These Seals can be used for an additional chance at Tier 17 loot.
Unlike Mists of Pandaria, your bonus roll currency can be acquired from multiple sources. This provides some variety and you can pick which method of farming is the most fun.
命运扭曲者赛瑞斯
and
命运扭曲者提拉尔
in your capital city hubs have different quests for

Blackrock Foundry Tuning
Watcher
At this point, the terms "overtuned" and "undertuned" are mainstays on the forums in the days and weeks following the release of each new raid zone. My best definition for "overtuned" is "harder than it should be"; inversely, "undertuned" means "easier than it should be." But of course everyone has a different idea of should -- of what the tuning target is for a given boss. Some are voicing their own opinion as players, while others are guessing at the developers' intent based on our past history and comments. Unsurprisingly, this lack of context and common ground all too often leads to people talking past each other, accusations of trolling, and other fun forum interactions. To help ground the conversation, I'd like to share a few thoughts and goals about how we approach the difficulty and complexity of our raid bosses.
Tuning in general is a very interesting topic, and one that sees a huge amount of discussion around the office, whether in formal planning meetings early in the design process, or yesterday morning when a coworker stopped by our office to offer a stern glare and some choice words about
Oregorger
.
As background,
Blackrock Foundry
itself is a bit of an experiment with a significant split-release initial raid tier. In Cataclysm, the initial 4.0 patch had three raid zones that opened immediately, with a total of 13 bosses (14 on Heroic), and the amount of content felt overwhelming to many. In response, in Mists we partitioned 16 bosses into two separate releases, with Mogu'shan Vaults opening the second week of the expansion, and Heart of Fear and Terrace following a month later. While this helped somewhat, many players still felt rushed, with new bosses unlocking far faster than they could keep up.
And so for Warlords, we added a more significant two-month gap between
Highmaul
and Foundry, allowing a significant portion of the playerbase to make real headway in
Highmaul
before we unveiled the remainder of the initial raid content. But that larger gap, while offering what we consider improved pacing, also made Foundry feel like a whole separate tier, which changed expectations slightly. If you quickly cleared half of Normal
Highmaul
the week of release, would you be able to clear half of Foundry just as quickly? If you had finished working your way through Normal
Highmaul
and had moved on to Heroic
Highmaul
when Foundry opened, would Normal Foundry be comparatively easy since you've now been raiding Heroic content?
In several ways, we intended Foundry to complement, rather than supplant,
Highmaul
. If we had wanted Foundry to be a fresh start and a clean slate, we would have had it completely obsolete all
Highmaul
gear, the way Normal Jin'rokh dropped items that were 13 item levels better than loot from Heroic Sha of Fear. But
Highmaul
remains relevant, and Foundry exists as a direct continuation of that progression. While Normal
Highmaul
was designed with the expectation that players would arrive with dungeon items, Normal Foundry expects players who are mostly
Highmaul
geared. Thus the numerical targets, in terms of healing and damage throughput, for even an early boss like
Gruul
or
Beastlord Darmac
, are comparable to what Ko'ragh demands in
Highmaul
. So just because you now find Kargath to be simple, does not mean that
Oregorger
will be equally easy prey. But players who had success in
Highmaul
should all be able to continue into Foundry, stake a foothold there, and continue to progress in their difficulty of choice. And those who are still working their way through
Highmaul
will continue to find invaluable items there, which will help them eventually delve deeper into the Foundry.
As for the structure of the zone, Foundry is a winged instance, in the style of Naxxramas or Icecrown Citadel in the past, and we intend for bosses to become more challenging the deeper into a given wing you go, but for the different wings to be largely equal in overall difficulty. Groups who jumped right into the
Blast Furnace
encounter after downing
Gruul
and
Oregorger
likely found themselves in over their heads, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the Furnace encounter is "overtuned" -- rather, in essence, you were skipping from bosses 1-3 all the way to bosses 7-9. The early bosses of other wings will offer a more suitable challenge, and will offer valuable item upgrades to help prepare you for the end bosses of each wing, and of course for
Blackhand
himself.
Our expectations regarding item progression through a zone also may not be obvious, and may contribute to perceptions of "overtuned" encounters. We generally assume that our target audience for a given piece of content is starting out largely (but not entirely) geared with items from the prior difficulty and/or zone. So Normal Foundry was designed to feel appropriately challenging for a group that enters the zone with a fair amount of Normal
Highmaul
gear. Heroic Foundry expects some amount of either or both Heroic
Highmaul
or Normal Foundry items. But that's just for the start of the zone. Guilds that are squarely in the target audience for a given difficulty aren't the ones who blaze a trail to the end of a zone: they progress steadily and surely through it, downing a boss or two each week and accumulating a significant amount of loot along the way. Thus, the deeper into the zone you get, the higher the item level we imagine you are likely to have. This, too, often causes guilds to feel that some bosses are "overtuned."
For example, imagine a guild that had fully cleared Heroic
Highmaul
and had 2 Mythic bosses down, coming straight into Heroic Foundry with an average item level of 672. This guild, being both skilled and somewhat overgeared (compared to the 665ish item level we might imagine for a typical guild entering Heroic Foundry), might steamroll through the first portions of Foundry. They're getting some item level 680 upgrades along the way, but one partial clear's worth of loot isn't enough to drastically change their overall power. But then, before they know it, they're face to face with wing bosses or even
Blackhand
, which were designed with the expectation that raids would have acquired a significant amount of ilvl 680 Foundry loot, perhaps with some tier set bonuses in play. And so those encounters might be unexpectedly challenging. But the seemingly sudden jump in difficulty isn't due to a tuning error, but rather because this group of trailblazers cleared so quickly that they went from being overgeared for early bosses to actually undergeared for the later ones!
All of the above said, that doesn't mean that we feel every boss in Foundry is perfectly tuned according to our goals.
Blackhand
is almost certainly a bit too demanding (though not drastically so - he's supposed to be hard!) and will likely see some adjustments going into the new raid lockout next week. And we're keeping a very close eye on raid-size scaling issues that may make certain fights excessively difficult with too few or too many players, and have adjusted a few such mechanics already. But in general, we're satisfied with how things are shaping up so far.
Thanks for reading through all this, and feel free to return to the tuning debates. It wouldn't be the Raids & Dungeons forum without them. But hopefully this shed some light on how we approach the topic on our end.
Blizzard's Official Boss Preview
Blizzard
Blackrock Foundry was the ancestral home of the Blackrock orcs, wherein master smiths smelted and worked the impossibly hard ore that is the clan’s namesake. Now, massive giants captured and broken by the Thunderlord heat the great forges, flamebenders of the Burning Blade imbue the ore with an inner fire, and engineers shape the slag according to otherworldly schematics. Warlord Blackhand’s foundry is the center of the Iron Horde’s military might, churning out the weaponry that will be used to raze Azeroth.
Just when you thought you’d become comfortable (as comfortable as one can get in a gladiator pit) with Highmaul, we thought it was time to shake things up and show you what’s waiting in our next Raid—Blackrock Foundry—and introduce you to Rukhmar, the latest world Raid boss. We asked senior 3D artist Andy Matthews to provide some insight into the dungeon’s visual development:
The Foundry’s spark of inspiration was the creation of the Slagworks’ “furnace room;” it created iconic silhouettes that we carried throughout the rest of the Raid, which has a very strong industrial look and feel.
The Dread Grotto was my favorite shot to establish in the Raid. In its early development, we wanted to show the Iron Horde’s shipping area from multiple angles, foreshadowing later content. The Workshop shows the daily grind of factory life for the Ironworkers. Most workers dread the “flame-jet Fridays.”
Some say the Iron Horde motto is, “When in doubt, add a spike!”
You’ll need a minimum item level of 635 to tackle Blackrock Foundry via Raid Finder. The Foundry’s rewards range from item level 650 (Raid Finder) to 695 (Mythic).Let’s take a look at the bosses that await you within Blackrock Foundry. . . . Slagworks
Gruul-
Garrosh knew that the surest path to breaking the gronn lay in subjugating their great father, Gruul. Known in another time as the Dragonkiller, here Gruul has been reduced to the role of menial laborer. In a cruel mockery of the Shattered Hand’s warrior tradition, his hand has been replaced with a hook to enable him to more easily haul pallets of fuel to the furnace.
Oregorger
- The storehouses of the Blackrock Foundry, laden with heaps and pallets of unprocessed Blackrock ore, represent a grand banquet feast for the ravenous rock-eating goren who have burrowed into the chamber. Oregorger is by far the largest of the invaders, gluttony swelling his frame far beyond the size of any goren previously seen in Draenor.
The Blast Furnace-
The Blackrock clan’s unique ability to smelt the black ore, a substance so dense that ordinary flame does not even soften it, has always been their most closely-guarded secret. Deep within the Foundry, their furnace contains a primal force as old as Draenor itself, raging within the confines of its prison as it emanates a preternatural heat.
The Black Forge
Hans’gar and Franzok
- Hans’gar and Franzok are twin brothers raised and trained as masterful brawlers of their clan. Both carved paths of glory as warriors, but destiny had other plans. The brothers, each unwilling to slay the other in the rite of mak’gora, were banished from their clan and left for dead. They survived as outcasts in the savage wilds of Draenor and when the Iron Horde called, these powerful warriors found a new home in the massive war machine.
Flamebender Ka’graz-
Under the banner of the Iron Horde, Blackhand has enlisted Flamebender Ka’graz of the Burning Blade to imbue the Blackrock-forged armaments with the essence of flame. Along with her assistant Aknor Steelbringer, Ka’graz toils before an ever burning forge in support of the Iron Horde’s conquest of Draenor.
Kromog
- The magnaron are mysterious in their ways, ancient and inscrutable. Miners excavating an expansion to the Foundry, in support of the Iron Horde’s massive production needs, were horrified to unearth a chamber containing a living magnaron. To their astonishment, Kromog began to assist in their endeavors, and now uses his massive stone fists to hammer out the gigantic plates needed for the Iron Horde’s dreadnaughts and siege machinery.
Iron Assembly
Beastlord Darmac
- As a young orc, Darmac quickly rose through the ranks of the Thunderlord as a gifted trainer of beasts. Where others only saw animal instincts, he recognized intellect and drew forth untapped potential from brain and muscle and bone. When the Iron Horde demanded his service, Darmac saw no greater honor than to outfit and train the most savage beasts Draenor has to offer.
Operator Thogar
- Known more for his cruelty and cleverness than for brute strength, Thogar oversees the operation of the Grimrail. From the Foundry’s depot, he coordinates the ongoing ground battle against the draenei in Talador, with entire battalions of troops and artillery at his beck and call.
The Iron Maidens
- With little opportunity to exercise her tactical brilliance under the ancient social structure of the orc clans, Gar’an was thrilled to be one of the first warriors to volunteer for naval duty under the Iron Horde. Instantly successful in battle, she was named Admiral of the iron Horde fleet and selected Marak and Sorka as her lieutenants. Together, they are called the Iron Maidens, and have crushed any who have dared face them.
The Crucible
Blackhand-
A ruthless tyrant and fierce warrior, Blackhand is Warlord of the Blackrock clan, second only to Grommash in stature within the Iron Horde. Bathed in sweltering heat that few other mortals could withstand, Blackhand oversees the operations of his Foundry from atop its Crucible, wielding his smoldering slag hammer to forge weapons of peerless quality.
For more information on each of these bosses, their abilities, the items they drop, and more, check out the in-game Dungeon Journal. World Boss: Rukhmar Rukhmar occasionally appears as a blazing firehawk soaring through the skies high above the Spires of Arak. The origins of the great bird are unknown though Rukhmar is venerated as a deity by the arrakoa, seen as an embodiment of the sun itself.

If you have Tier 17 items from different levels (ei legs, waist, should from normal, hands from heroic, chest from mythic).
Do you still get the tier 17 bonus? or do they have to be from the same level?

Very few trash mobs drop anything. Just some gold.
I soloed the Mythic version as a level-56 Arcane Mage in the post-squish, Shadowlands era.
You enter at The Workshop.
Gruul
:
I took the first door on the right (? Wall) and followed a spiraling tunnel down to the Slagworks.
Red markings appear on the floor of the tunnel to warn you of a coming earth spike.
I went out onto the suspension bridge and killed the mobs at the T intersection.
I went right (north) from there and followed the tunnel to Gruul's Lair, killing trash as I went.
Gruul went down in less than a minute.
In addition to the usual BoP purples, he dropped a BoE
Darklight Necklace
. I'll probably auction it.
Oregorger
:
I went back to the bridge and kept going straight (south) to the Blackrock Depository past the T intersection.
After I killed all the trash on the way to Oregorger, he appeared in the NW corner of the depository.
Oregorger went down in maybe 15 seconds and managed to stun me a couple times.
Heart of the Mountain
:
I retraced my steps to the T intersection on the bridge and turned right (east) towards the tunnel to The Workshop.
However, I turned right (south) immediately after getting off the bridge and did not enter the tunnel.
I went down a spiraling tunnel and had to dodge the red markings and earth spikes as I did in the first tunnel.
A Slag Behemoth was at the end of the tunnel to greet me. It took several shots to kill it.
Beyond him was The Blast Furnace, with Foreman Feldspar in the center and flanked by three mobs on each side.
When I attacked him, the flanked mobs joined him. After they are all dead, you have to cut off ventilation to the furnace.
Engineers (and others) will come to attack you. Stand near the open ventilation on one side of the furnace.
Kill the Engineers and they drop a bomb. Pick up the bomb and press the red button on your Extra Action Bar.
Do this repeatedly to ruin the ventiation door and close it. Go to the other side and rince and repeat.
After both doors are closed, the Heart of the Mountain appears in front of the furnace.
It has four Primal Elementalists holding it down with chains and is not targetable. Kill the four PMs to activate it.
Burn it down to finish the encounter.
Head back east to the spiraling tunnel and take both tunnels back up to The Workshop.
I found an Iron Horde Chest containing Blackrock Ore to the right of the first tunnel entrance.
After returning to The Workshop, I chose to leave the instance and go to S#$%ea Ridge for bag cleaning and rest.
I had made 159g in gold drops, plus I sold 15 BoP purples worth another 159g to .
You can be rested by standing near
Aeden Summersky
.
Franzok
and
Hans'gar
:
Upon returning to The Workshop, head to the west door to get to The Black Forge wing.
Wait for the elevator and take it down to The Black Forge. Head south from the elevator.
In the Slagmill Press, big presses drop down to hit non-moving conveyor belts in the floor.
They jam and Franzok and Hans'gar (
Franz and Hans the body builders from SNL
?) argue about unjamming them.
They send out minions to unjam them.
After killing them, the presses go back up and Franzok and Hans'gar jump the fence blocking the south side of the room.
After the fight starts, the conveyor belts start moving and the presses come crashing down on lit-up sections of the belts.
You only need to kill one of the two to end the encounter.
Presses continue to run and you need to dodge them as you head to the south side of the room to continue on.
Flamebender Ka'graz
:
Follow the corridor to the Burning Font. There are conveyor belts transporting red-hot weapons and many trash mobs.
You can climb over the belts or weave your way around them. The mobs dropped almost 10g for me.
On the other (west) side is another room with Flamebender Ka'graz and Aknor Steelbringer.
Aknor died quickly, but Ka'graz took some extra shots. She dropped a BoE purple, the
Choker of the Bloody Flame
on multiple visits.
Kromog
:
Head back east to the Burning Font where a door is now open on the north side of the room.
Go through it and down a short corridor to see Kromog in The Great Anvil.
I just burned him down and didn't have to dance around dodging stuff.
His drops included a BoE
Talisman of the Fomor
.
A door opens on the right (east) side of the room to take you down a corridor to the Dread Grotto.
When you get to a T just inside the grotto, turn right (south) and head to a tunnel.
The tunnel ends with a drop into The Black Forge where an elevator is waiting to take you back to The Workshop.
This is another good time to take a break.
Beastlord Darmac
:
There are two doors on the east wall of The Workshop. Take the northernmost one.
Follow the corridor until you get to a door on the right (east) that leads to Beastlord Darmac in The Breaking Grounds.
He tried to summon some beast, but I took him down before they got to me.
Operator Thogar
:
Go back (west) to the corridor and turn right (north). A bunch of mobs block the way to the Foundry Terminus.
Here, you will see Operator Thogar across some tracks on the far (north) side of the room.
There is a gated ramp leading down to the tracks and platforms on either side.
Go to one and kill the mob there. A train arrives and lets a crowd out to attack you. Kill them.
Go to the other and repeat. A train comes with siege weapons that target you. Kill them.
The gate opens and allows you onto the tracks where you will meet Thogar. Kill him.
Iron Maidens
:
Head back across the tracks and turn left (east) just before you get to the corridor returning you to The Workshop.
You will find a nonfunctioning elevator shaft. It looks scary, but you will drop safely into water in the Dread Grotto.
You will find Aquatic Technicians around the ship. You need to kill them to activate the Iron Maidens.
Go up the ramp to a platform and clear out the trash. This releases the Iron Maidens.
Burn the three of them down. As a 56, I took no damage and ignored the various threats.
Blackhand
:
Head south from the platform and turn right (south) to follow a path to the SW.
You will get to a place where you can drop down to the path you took around the grotto before.
Turn left, drop down again, and take the elevator to The Workshop.
Turn left (north) from the center of The Workshop and cross the bridge to a newly opened door.
You will meet Forgemistress Flamehand, who dies easily.
Follow the corridor to an elevator to meet Blackhand.
I just burned him down, but twice he broke the floor open and we dropped down a level.
It seems to happen when he is at 70% and 30% health. I killed him on the third level.
Game over.
There is no where to go after you kill Blackhand. Either port out or jump and die, which rezzes you back in The Workshop.
