Warlords of Draenor Challenge Mode Guide

Challenge Mode Overview

Challenge Modes are timed instance runs in which your gear is scaled down to ilvl 630. This ensures that running these instances will be challenging even in later tiers--you can't outgear it. In addition, the pulls are more complex than on Heroic mode, and mobs do much more damage.

There are three tiers of rewards: Gold, Silver, and Bronze, which are obtained based on how quickly you complete the zone. We've listed these rewards below, which include mounts, titles, and transmoggable weapons with special effects.

Mechanisms have been added to prevent skipping trash, primarily a requirement that you kill a minimum number of trash mobs to complete the zone.

The daily Challenge Mode quest in Warlords of Draenor awards an ilvl 640 epic. In Patch 6.1, these rewards will be ilvl 660 instead.

Gearing Rules

Any item above ilvl 630 are scaled down to ilvl 630; items that are 630 or below are not affected or scaled up.

In general, save items of any ilvl >= 630 that have your favored stats (such as from Mission rewards). It is much easier to swap item setups now than it was in Mists.

Any trinket of ilvl 630 or higher is a valid choice because of the wide selection of unique procs, so you have a wide array of trinkets to consider compared to armor. In general, trinkets that drop Highmaul and Foundry still have high amounts of stats when scaled down to ilvl 630.

Tier set bonuses are not active, and neither are tertiary stats or gem sockets.

Stats from consumables and enchants are not reduced.

Instance Rules

cannot be used in a Challenge Mode.

If you release, you get rezzed at the instance's entrance or at checkpoints that are sometimes created when you kill a boss.

Unlike other dungeons, Challenge Modes can be reset as many times as you like (the group leader will have a special menu option that sends you back to the beginning, respawns the zone, and resets the timer). There is no hourly cap or daily lockout.

Bosses do not drop loot and gear does not take a durability loss.

You cannot swap party members without exiting and fully resetting the zone.

All class cooldowns longer than 3 minutes reset when you reset the zone, as well as item cooldowns like 次级隐形药水 and 隐形药水.

You can swap between your two stored specializations during the run, but cannot change individual talents/glyphs within each one.

Useful ItemsInvisibility

德拉诺隐形药水:
This is the new invisibility potion added in Warlords of Draenor.

Grants Invisibility for 18 seconds.

Can only be used out of combat.

Any action ends the invisibility, so make sure to use speed boosts like 狂奔怒吼 before activating your potion.

Usually used once per zone to skip the maximum allowed number of trash mobs.

It takes 新月油膏 and 3 无颚潜鱼肉 to make.

The recipe is automatically learned via 德拉诺炼金学概论 and non-Alchemists can craft it with a 炼金实验室等级1.

隐形场

"Permanently attaches thousands of tiny mirrors to your belt, allowing you to attempt to turn invisible while out of combat."

Lasts 15 seconds, on a 10 minute cooldown.

Requires 450 Engineering to use. Reagents are 修补匠的工具箱.

Now shares cooldown with other invisibility items.

潜伏帷幕Stats

遗忘王者战鼓:
Gives all members of the raid or group the Blessing of Forgotten Kings, increasing Strength, Agility, and Intellect by 4% for 30 min.

Useful if you don't have a Druid, Monk, Paladin, or Hunter pet in the group.

Any player can use the drums. It is crafted by Leatherworkers with at least 450 skill.

Reagents: 8x 厚北地皮, 8x 冰冷的龙鳞.

坚韧符文卷轴 III

Increases Stamina by 8% for all party and raid members for 1 hour.

Reagents: 5x 轻羊皮纸, 10x 梦幻墨水.

Any player can use the scrolls. It is crafted by scribes with at least 580 skill.

Useful if you don't have a Priest, Warlock, Warrior, or Hunter pet.

狂怒战鼓

Increases melee, ranged, and spell haste by 25% for all party and raid members. Lasts 40 sec.

Useful if you don't have a Shaman, Mage, or Hunter pet in the group.

Any player can use the drums. It is crafted by Leatherworkers with 1 skill.

There are two tiers of flasks--the first tier increases primary stats by 200 (Stamina 300), and the Greater tier increases them by 250 (Stamina 375).

Flasks last for an hour.

Flasks can be crafted by an Alchemist at skill level 1, and lesser flasks can be crafted with a 炼金实验室等级3.

Draenor food is available for five secondary stats: critical strike, haste, multistrike, mastery, and versatility.

+75 stat food requires either 5 meat or 10 fish to cook.

+100 stat food requires a meat dish, fish dish, and herb.

There are +75 stat feasts via cooking and 狂野大餐 from the Barn, but as they award your highest secondary stat, you may have to take off gear in order to get the stat you want.

In Patch 6.1, players can cook +125 food with fish, which is the best possible food.

Health/Mana

治疗滋补剂:
Made with 10 海蝎子体节

Recipe automatically learned with 德拉诺急救术.

Can be crafted at skill level 1.

This shares a cooldown with 粒子护盾 but no Alchemy potions.

香烤新月剑齿鱼新月剑齿鱼清汤粒子护盾

Protects the user with a shield that absorbs up to 51000 damage. Lasts 15 sec. (1 Min Cooldown)

Crafted by Engineers at skill level 1 via 德拉诺工程学, or with a 工坊等级1.

Shares a cooldown with 治疗滋补剂.

德拉诺法力引导药水

Puts the imbiber in an elevated state of focus where they can restore up to (5100 * 10) mana over 10 sec, but they are defenseless until their focus is broken. (1 Min Cooldown)

Takes 水晶瓶 and 3 烁星花.

配方：德拉诺法力引导药水 costs . It can also be crafted via 炼金实验室等级2.

Movement

"Gift" cape enchants (eg 爆击之赐):
Top-tier cape enchants add 10% movement speed.

These take 4 时光水晶 and 3 of a Sorcerous element.

These can be crafted with Enchanting or 附魔研究室等级3.

地精滑翔器

Permanently attaches a specialized folding assembly to a cloak, allowing you to deploy a goblin glider and fall slowly for 30 sec.

On a five minute cooldown, requires 500 Engineering to use.

Reagents: 修补匠的工具箱

地精滑翔器工具包

Version of the 地精滑翔器 which non-Engineers can use.

Crafted by Engineers or 工坊等级1, takes 8 真铁矿石 and 5 奢华兽毛.

This item has charges, so you will need to replenish your stack.

氮气推进器

Greatly increases run speed for a few seconds. Duration and speed vary in Warlords of Draenor.

Can be activated every 3 minutes, but shares CD with offensive and invisibility potions.

Reagents: 修补匠的工具箱

Crowd Control

钴质破片炸弹:
3 second root that also deals fire damage.

Can be used up to 45 yards away, on a 1 minute cooldown.

Requires Engineering 330 to use, costs 2x 钴螺丝 and 敏锐爆炸触发器 to make.

腰带炸弹

An incapacitate that in practice causes enemies to reset their cast timer.

Example on useful locations: Every trash pack in Everbloom; UBRS when ogres try to release proto-drakes.

Does not share CD with potions (1 min CD).

Requires Engineering 380 to craft, costs 修补匠的工具箱 to make.

德拉诺力量药水: Increases your strength by 1000 for 25 sec. (1 Min Cooldown). Takes 水晶瓶 and 3 纳格兰箭叶花.

德拉诺全能药水: Increases your bonus armor by 1500 for 25 sec. (1 Min Cooldown). Takes 水晶瓶 and 3 寒霜草.

Blizzard just forgot to make a "male" version of the CM Bow, the other weapons are full of spikes and fire, but the Bow has flowers and buterflies, wtf?

狂怒战鼓 is a nice addiction since 暴怒之鼓 could not be used in Mysts, so a shaman or a mage are not a must have on this expansion :)

It may be worth adding that hunters, mages, and warlocks with pets should dismiss pets before entering invisibility. Any DOTs, including monk tank stagger, will cancel invisibility.

All engineering belt tinkers can misfire, CMs are no exception. In addition to triggering potion CD (most notably Nitro Boosts and Invisibility Field), they can have nasty side effects. Nitro Boosts (aka rocket belt) can start to leak fuel, inflicting aggresive fire DoT on the user. If invisibility field malfunctions, you will see the blurry shady animation as if it worked, but monsters can see you.

In short: engineering enchants are unreliable and should not be used in serious CMs - any malfunction can cost you the medal.

In the Useful Items section you may want to add a mention to 帕吉诺夫的永恒之谜, 雷象铜像, and 巴赫里克的手镯, and 德拉诺点金石 for those gearing alts on a budget.

Comparing 帕吉诺夫的永恒之谜 to 双面幸运金币, the cheaper alternative procs for a similar agility, and has just 40 less stats on it.

Comparing 雷象铜像 to 不眠奥术精魂, the cheaper version has less useful stats and less bonus armor proc, but for someone who doesn't want to raid on their tank the statue is a very strong alternative.

The strength version 巴赫里克的手镯 of 奇亚诺斯的剑鞘 isn't nearly as strong when both are in a CM, but scabbard is also really overpowered. If you are limited to a low budget and only heroic dungeon loot, then 巴赫里克的手镯 is probably the best option to get huge bladestorms since it procs a main stat and the alternatives proc secondary stats.

The alchemy trinket 德拉诺点金石 is very strong because it lasts 15 seconds on a 55s icd, so it ends up having high uptime on a pretty strong proc.

If you only have access to heroic dungeon loot, and cheap auction house items, then they are probably BiS for classes that do lots of burst damage in their openers. I usually can grab each of the boe items for 100-300 gold, and leveling alchemy to use the trinket is very cost-effective if you create potions.

in UBRS there are 3 weapons that i know of that have special procs:

沙赫拉姆荒芜之剑
石化重锤
黑手的毁灭战戟

do these 3 weapons still include thier procs while in CMs

There's a minor mistake to the list of potions. Says you need 炎火草 x3 but you actually need 塔拉多幽兰 x3 in order to make 德拉诺智力药水.

With the Baleful Tokens from Tanaan, equipment optimization for CMs just got a lot easier:

Farm Apexis Crystals
Buy the token that could improve your CM gear
If it has the right stats, move on to another slot, if not repeat steps 1+2 as needed

I have a question : Do we know how will the new void storage / transmog system affect challenge mode rewards? For example, if I complete the achievement on a tank, will I be able to use the weapons for transmog on other characters through the account-wide system? Has Blizzard mentioned anything on this matter?

Are the Feats of Strength for realm-best times persistent or do they go away if the time is beaten? I know the titles go away if someone beats your time, but I'm not seeing anything saying whether the achievement itself gets revoked.

Also, if I complete gold for all the dungeons on one character, will my other characters have access to the special weapons, or are those locked to just the character that completes the achievement?

Blizz never updated the tooltip to match the previous glider spell, which, as we all that have used them in wod already know, it has the second quote's duration/cooldowns.

Same for Engineer-crafted (but anyone can use) 地精滑翔器工具包.

Does this mean that if I do this on my Warrior - and I buy ALL of the weapons, can my other toons that has not completed challenge mode use the weapons in Legion? Or do I need to complete it on all of my characters?

I have a question. My Destro Warlock is geared for PvP- nearly full conquest. I have been told that I need BiS and that it would be baleful or pieces like it- I'm trying to do gold challenge mode, not record. Do I need to farm baleful or is nearly full conquest enough to work? It gets scaled down, so I feel like it'd work, right?
