This guide covers the strategy I used to get

on my rogue, which is one of the harder classes for this challenge. I also take a look at the gearing preparation required, as I started work on this challenge without much raid gear--if you do not raid, some planning will be useful.
Why Proving Grounds?
I was looking for a fun challenge, as my goal to complete

was derailed by boosted 90s sabotaging battlegrounds. With a break from the rapid-fire PTRs like 5.0-5.4, I've been trying to get back into small group and solo challenges in WoW since I have more energy to focus now.
I found myself learning Brawler's Guild in front of others stressful, so learning this with nobody looking was great.
While I dislike stepping into a raid and feeling that I'm underperforming due to a huge item level gap, the scaling in Proving Grounds places more of an emphasis on skill.
While I was disappointed that sticking with Combat, a spec I enjoy playing, would make things needlessly difficult for learning Endless, I viewed learning Mutilate as a fun experiment. If Proving Grounds are meant to make you better at your class, learning them with a spec I haven't touched since Firelands seems like a good way to put this to the test.
While there were some gimmicky things for rogues that wouldn't translate to a raid situation like using

every 10 seconds, I did learn a bit about the spec's nuances as well as practicing situational awareness with the

and improving keybinds.
There were things which could be improved in Proving Grounds, such as making more specs viable, building in flask/food buffs to the zone to avoid gold sinks (especially as there are no rewards for beating Proving Grounds repeatedly), and letting progressed players start the challenge on later waves. Rewards could also be handled better, as Proving Grounds has no rewards outside of the titles and no incentives for players to repeatedly try them. Compare this to Challenge Modes which offer vanity rewards at Bronze, Silver, and Gold as well as Valor Points and gold for each successful completion.
Overall though, this was a positive experience. I felt that I got rid of a lot of gameplay rust that had built up earlier in MoP and understood the mechanics of a spec I'd always been hesitant to play in past raids due to unfamiliarity.

Thanks to
Xinc's Endless 45 video
, I viewed

in a new way. Instead of assuming that the two
狂暴
buffs that spawned per wave had to be used every 10 waves, I experimented with triple and quad
狂暴
on 21-30, saving the 11-20
狂暴
for more challenging waves. Holding off on berserking 1-20 also ensured I learned the earlier waves very well without having as much of a dps cushion.
Quad Berserking:
Pick up the 1st
狂暴
by Rotun (left side when facing door) seconds before Wave 24 starts. When Wave 24 starts, a new
狂暴
will appear in the same spot.
Get the 2nd
狂暴
(right side when facing door) at the end of Wave 5. It will last for the 20 exposed seconds of the

and then for the initial 10 seconds of AoE/Mystic DPS of Wave 26.
When Wave 26 spawns, a new

will appear on the right side.
You now have two additional

s to use between Waves 27 - 30 as necessary.
I actually didn't end up going with this setup although it sounded very fun. Since I had a wipe to wave 20 with very bad proc luck, I decided to use
狂暴
there instead of risking another late wipe and losing focus. As a result, I triple berserked 21-30, using
狂暴
at 24, 29, and 30.

was also an interesting cooldown. Thanks to

, abilities in stealth cost 75% less Energy so I tended to use this when I sensed I was having bad proc and

This wave is pretty lax on dps, which I used as an opportunity to relax and not exhaust my focus. Just kill the

Gearing Up
While I did spend some time and gold improving my gear for
试炼场
, it's easy to fall into the trap of saying that
试炼场
requires very specific gear setups in order to succeed. I am not a regular raider anymore due to my work schedule, so in many cases I was dealing with itemization problems that even an LFR raider wouldn't have to worry about.
In the Sample Gear Sets section, I've included links to different types of gear profiles so it's easy to see the wide variation in Endless gear setups. When I tried Gold Proving Grounds back in January, my gear was far from optimal. My preparation was to use a BoE PvP helm with an
灵巧之源钻
and to purchase a
雪怒圣物
. Consumables were a flask and +250 stat food. This gear setup serves as the benchmark for the first and weakest item set.
Overall I didn't mind improving my gear for Endless. I find coming up with gear lists interesting when they're not based on winning the highest ilvl item, and I feel more attached to my Proving Grounds items than I do my LFR and World Boss items. Gearing up was a fun project, but I would prefer if socketed items had more variety in their sources. Running heroics with friends for socketed items is a lot more fun than ToT LFR.
Gear/Socket Basics
Any item above ilvl 463 is scaled down to ilvl 463; items that are 463 or below are not affected or scaled up. ilvl 458 items are viable as they can be upgraded to ilvl 466 with Justice Points.
Any trinket of ilvl 458 or higher is a valid choice because of the wide selection of unique procs, so you have a wide array of trinkets to consider compared to armor.
If you were hit/expertise capped normally, you will remain hit/expertise capped in a Proving Grounds.
Tier set bonuses are not active, and neither are
Sha-Touched Gems
, legendary meta gems, or legendary cape procs.
Stats from flasks, enchants, other gems, and profession bonuses are not reduced.

Why are sockets and socket bonuses important?
When an item has a socket,
试炼场
scaling deducts 80 primary and 80 secondary stats from an item. This is balanced out by the socket gem giving +160 of a primary stat, which more than makes up for losing some of a secondary stat.

is special because the stat deductions aren't taken into account--it's just free additional stats.
The more important benefit is going from an item that has 0 sockets to an item that has 1 with a socket bonus. The socket bonuses are not scaled down in any way, so you can get additional free stats, usually 60-120 agility.
For Proving Grounds in Warlords, this system will change. There will be no more socket bonuses or meta gems, and sockets are no longer a guarantee on items. Instead, they are treated as a rare perk similar to Warforged item levels. We don't know if sockets will be handled differently in Warlords Proving Grounds.

now, I think it's important when looking at videos from September to realize that when players talk about using their "normal gear," they were wearing tons of

gear. Due to itemization and sockets,

gear inadvertently ended up being BiS for Proving Grounds. However, if a raider is using

pieces, they are not significantly far behind now.
Benefits to

gear:
Weapons not only have sockets and strong socket bonuses, but they benefit from the additional
黑王子之眼
socket which
决战奥格瑞玛
weapons do not benefit from. However, Siege of Orgrimmar weapons are preferable to PvP weapons because they at least have a socket and good socket bonus.
雷电王座
has the only illvl 463+ socketed bracers and necks in the game, as well as two of the few socketed rings.
Several tier pieces are itemized well, with multiple sockets, good socket colors, and good socket bonuses.

has many viable pieces--ring, chest, pants, boots, belt.
If you are not a raider and want to minimize your time in
雷电王座
LFR in the hopes of getting pieces, I would prioritize Wing 4 since there are three upgrades there (
铁穹的靴刀

), and then Wing 2 for the two Megaera pieces (

) and possibly

Sample Gear Sets
I've made some sample item comparison links to show not only how my stats increased due to proper planning, but that there were even more optimizations I could have done. I've also included a set of Siege of Orgrimmar gear to show how simply raiding the current content puts you in a strong position.
The gear listed in these sets is scaled down to 463, without taking into account
皮甲专精
,
, or base agility. Gemming is
精致源红石
,
反光皇紫晶
, and
精锐朱砂玛瑙
to match socket bonuses. The gear takes into account the +320 agility bonuses from Jewelcrafting and Enchanting as well, which are my professions.
Unoptimized gear when starting Endless
(worked for Gold): 13155 agility, 16 sockets
Gear used to beat Wave 30
: 13919 agility, 21 sockets
Gear from Siege of Orgrimmar
with only optimized trinkets: 14259 agility, 23 sockets
Set that is close to BiS with good SoO and ToT pieces
: 14859 raw agility, 25 sockets
Gear Optimizations
I did Gold with a set that had 13155 raw agility but when I started running into some issues on 21-30, I looked into ways to optimize my gear further. My primary aim was to replace Timeless Isle and PvP pieces with gear that had sockets and PvE socket bonuses. After several days of optimization, I got up to 13919 agility. This set still had some weaknesses such as Timeless Isle pieces with doubled-up secondary stats and socketless items, but the additional 800 agility over my starter set provided the dps gain I needed to succeed at 30.
If I started off with solid raiding pieces instead of PvP and Timeless Isle gear, I would have avoided much of my gear optimizing. Many slots would been serviceable if I had done LFR or Flex for several weeks in

. The Siege of Orgrimmar set has 14259 agility, which is the equivalent of having another food buff over my gear setup. The Siege of Orgrimmar set does not include crafted items or those from ToT with better sockets--it assumes minimal effort outside of trinkets.
As for trinkets,

is over-budgeted. While I initially experimented with
雪怒之律
for my second trinket, I found that

was better for controlled burst. It is also easier to acquire than
雪怒之律
which requires 0

Finally, while I did have a 2% wipe on Wave 30 while using

, I also used

on a pointless early wave instead of on Wave 30. So while a better-itemized weapon would have helped on that 2%, grabbing

at the right time would have too.
In my current setup, I was still 900 Agility away from a BiS setup. Here are some additional things I could have done if I needed more stats:

), which have good itemization due to their red sockets and agility socket bonuses.
Replacing my Timeless Isle pieces with doubled-up secondary stats.

LFR only once.
Ensuring I had the best possible socket bonuses available. I used Tier 15 legs to get a decent socket bonus over

PvP ones I won from the Celestials, but I didn't bother minmaxing the socket colors/bonuses from there.
The difference between my starter set (13155 Agi) and BiS setup (14859 Agi) is huge--more than a 10% difference. It's fair to expect people attempting Endless to put some thought into gear planning as similar effort is required for top raiding challenges. However, the effort required for Endless does not translate into Bronze, Silver, and Gold also requiring similar attention. Plus, I ended up 900 Agility off from a BiS setup, so complete optimization wasn't even needed for Endless.
My initial jumbled set of gear that received some upgrades for Endless also worked perfectly well for learning Gold. In addition, Gold was completed as Combat which is considered a non-viable spec for Endless. There's been a lot of talk and worry recently that Silver Proving Grounds in Warlords will require specific gear setups or be harsh on some classes, but these concerns are primarily limited to the top Proving Grounds level. Some attention does need to be paid to spec and gear choices in Endless, similar to preparing for a heroic raid. It also would be nice if Endless was tuned to be viable for more specs as well.
While spec and gear complaints for Endless can be valid, they can also serve as an excuse that hinders meaningful learning--refer to my 2% wipe example above. Endless is tuned for players to beat it in less than optional gear, while Gold has even looser gear requirements and more flexibility in spec choice. For Silver Proving Grounds concerns, while it may be tempting to blame a wipe on bad gear, the tuning should be loose enough that you can optimize your strategy, keybind obscure utility spells, or do one or two major gear tweaks like

to succeed.
Consumables
For consumables I used a

. I've got three Tillers farms, I might as well put them to good use.
If you use a flask before one is up, it takes your remaining duration into account and adds an hour on top of that.
If you use food before one is up, it just refreshes the duration to 60 minutes, so you can start burning food through quickly with 30 minute attempts. If you notice your food buff is low, there is a 15 second buffer after 10 and 20 to eat, plus you usually end 1-3 with a lot of spare time.
If you attempt to swap in a lesser food for learning attempts, the 250 or 275 food will not override your 300 food buff.
Focus/Pacing
I found learning 21-30 to be a problem due to 1-20 requiring focus but ultimately not serving as ideal preparation for the timing of 21-30. Waiting 25+ minutes to get one more shot at the real challenging wave--provided I didn't lose focus and wipe to something silly before--was frustrating. It was encouraging to see the earlier waves get easier over time, but as I optimized my strategy, their usefulness decreased as the mobs died faster and my combat flow deviated farther from my 21-30 pacing. For example, practicing when to Blind the

in wave 28 and switch to DPSing a
大型幻影杀戮者
was hard in earlier waves because the
大型幻影秘法师
had less health and my dots were more potent. I also couldn't plan out speed boosts between all the mobs at low HP because they would die early.
What I ended up doing was to not use
狂暴
and other cooldowns in earlier waves to simulate the challenges of Wave 21-30. This helped me get a better sense of the tighter dps requirements, but also had the downside of requiring more focus so I was tired when 21-30 finally came around. Once I worked out a plan for each wave, I went back to using my own cooldowns so I could relax more in 1-20.
Thinking that several attempts could stretch out into several hours was daunting, especially when the initial appeal of Proving Grounds was that I could try a short challenge at any time of the day. I did limit myself to trying attempts only when I felt focused and refreshed, even if that meant wasting a lot of food or a flask. I found it better to afk or log out to write down and analyze what worked after each attempt. My hands also started to get pretty uncomfortable from Wave 20 onwards, so I used 21-23 as an opportunity to relax and stretch them since the DPS requirements are low.
Ideally Proving Grounds could allow players who have hit a certain score consistently to skip early waves. While you might get through a wave once with good luck and Blindside procs, doing it repeatedly means you've completely learned the waves regardless of chance. It would also be great if food/flasks were built in buffs, like all the
Xuen Presence
ones for raid buffs/debuffs. Proving Grounds does not reward players for time spent learning--no gold or Valor Points for hitting waves repeatedly--so preparing for each Endless attempt is a steady consumable sink. For players that have already hit Wave 30, there is not much incentive to keep going and optimizing. Between no repeat rewards, no leaderboards, and very long attempts that have 30+ minutes between trying the most challenging wave, the current setup of Proving Grounds does not encourage players to return.

I have a question, though:
Did you pick the glyph of deadly momentum because there was really no other valuable choice? Since finishing moves refresh Slice and Dice in Assassination spec, it does not sound as helpful as it is for a Combat rogue.
Does this mean the glyph of Vendetta is a dps loss because most enemies die too fast for it to be effective?

I want to thank you as well for your very helpful advice! I don't think I had the optimal gear for this, but finally got the waves down today after many a 20+ wipe. Never again! (unless they make new proving grounds where you can speed up time at the lower waves).

Thank you for this guide! It was the starting point for my attempts at this title (which I finally got with 1 hour to go before the server shut down for 6.0.2). When I got it I ended up using a different 'rotation' of cooldowns for waves 24-30 due to an accidental pick up of a berserker buff earlier. Instead of what you recommended I had to judge whether I needed a CD (depending on proc luck) and if so see what I had available and go with that. I hope this strategy might still be useful for the WoD equivalent of this achievement. Thanks again!
