Update: Checked for 6.0.2 and while some pet abilities (like Pump) have changed, this guide still works. Also added an alternative method for
Courageous Yon
based on feedback.
If you’re looking to track your collections, Wowhead now has the
Battle Pet Collection Tracker
and
Mount Collection Tracker
! To use the tracker, simply import your character to view your collections.
You can read more about how to use this feature here!
Using Pet Battle Daily quests can be a good way to level pets. You can get upwards of 5000 exp for your pet (depending on the Tamer you are fighting and the level spread on the pets), and get the added benefit of the
Sack of Pet Supplies
with a chance at an
upgrade stone
,
bandages
, etc.
This is a short guide I've thrown together based on experience I've gained running the Pet Battle Dailies (strictly the ones that give a bag as a reward) and leveling pets at the same time.
There are other broader guides regarding the Pet Tamer dailies and battles, I'm going to deal here specifically with strategies for leveling other pets while doing these battles. A good place to start for further information is this news post and the Guides it links:
Battle Pet Tamer Guide: Locations, Quests, and Rewards
.
Information I list here was drawn from reading those guides, reading wowhead forums, and my own experience.
Pets
Here are the main pets I use in the Pet Battle Dailies to level other pets. I list the primary abilities I use with each pet, in the attack order I generally use them. When a heading says
<Type>
Fighter
, I don't mean the pet is that type, I mean use this pet
opposite
that type of enemy. I only use rares, not sure if any of these are possible with uncommon or lower.
Level 25 pets needed with base ability set used
Beast Fighter:
Clockwork Gnome
(Other beast fighting mechanicals may work, such as
Darkmoon Tonk
, but I favour
Clockwork Gnome
for it's Turret and large healing).
Build Turret
,
Metal Fist
, and
Repair
Switch
Build Turret
to
Launch Rocket
if the enemy has a "shell" or "shield" ability that negates the
Build Turret
.
Flying Fighter:
Nether Faerie Dragon
Moonfire
,
Arcane Blast
, and
Evanescence
Some fights you will find
Life Exchange
is better than
Evanescence
.
Dragon / Critter* fighter:
Anubisath Idol
Stoneskin
,
Crush
, and
Deflection
*
Anubisath Idol
has no +damage attack on Critters, but his
Stoneskin
ability can make him immune to critters that only have "multi" attacks that do a small amount of damage. For example, fighting against
Chirrup
, he takes no damage plus heals from his base humanoid ability, and ends the
Chirrup
fight at full health.
Aquatic Fighter:
Jade Owl
Adrenaline Rush
,
Slicing Wind
, and
Lift-Off
If you can't get a
Jade Owl
, an alternative is any of the
Moth
family. Use
Moth Dust
,
Slicing Wind
, and
Cocoon Strike
anywhere I say in my guide to use
Lift-Off
to avoid hits. It won't be quite as effective (it will take more damage than the Jade Owl), but may work.
Elemental Fighters:
Scooter the Snail
or another snail such as
Rapana Whelk
or
Silkbeard Snail
Acidic Goo
,
Dive
, and
Absorb
In some cases, a crab such as
Emperor Crab
may work better than a snail.
Whirlpool
,
Surge
, and
Healing Wave
Special Elemental Fighters:
Dancing Water Skimmer
or
Mirror Strider
Cleansing Rain
,
Pump
, and
Water Jet
Magic Fighter:
Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling
Bombing Run
,
Decoy
, and
Breath
Mechanical Fighter:
Fel Flame
Immolate
,
Conflagrate
, and
Burn
Critter Fighters:
Pick one of the following. In all cases, equip their abilities that do bonus damage on critters.
Curious Wolvar Pup
Flayer Youngling
Kun-Lai Runt
Lil' Bad Wolf
Stunted Yeti
If you have none of the above critter fighters, less effective but possible is something from the
spider family
using
Brittle Webbing
,
Spiderling Swarm
, and
Strike
Tamer Battles
Under each Tamer's name, you will find the pets I recommend, a brief description of the battle, and then further battle detail if needed. If I don't list any abilities specifically, I'm using the default ones I list in the "Pets" section above.
Stone Cold Trixxy
Stone Cold Trixxy
Clockwork Gnome
can easily solo this fight. Put pet(s) to level in the first two attack slots. Trixxy will lead with
Tinygos
. Attack or take damage with each of the pets you want experience with, then swap in the Clockwork Gnome and finish the fight. Use
Build Turret
whenever out of cooldown,
Metal Fist
otherwise, and
Repair
as needed.
If trying to get experience for very low level pets, you need some luck with
Tinygos
' attacks, since he can hit for about 500 and has a back-row attack.
Lydia Accoste
Lydia Accoste
Again,
Clockwork Gnome
can solo this fight. You need to pay attention to your health and heal, but it can be done. As with Trixxy, put pet(s) to level in the first two slots. Lead with them, taking damage or attacking once each, then switch in the Gnome to finish. Very low level pets can run into trouble from poison attacks here, so either need some luck, or just put in two pets to level and generally one will make it through. If you have patience and some bandages, you can restart the fight.
Bloodknight Antari
Bloodknight Antari
Clockwork Gnome
,
Scooter the Snail
, and a pet to level.
Open with your pet to level, take a swing at
Arcanus
for "credit".
Swap in
Clockwork Gnome
, use
Build Turret
and
Metal Fist
. Use
Repair
towards the end of the fight, but make sure
Arcanus
isn't too low on health, you don't want to be stuck in a round with
Jadefire
while the heal finishes it's second turn.
When
Jadefire
enters the fight, switch to
Scooter the Snail
. Use
Acidic Goo
to boost the damage of
Dive
, and
Absorb
while
Dive
is in cooldown.
When
Jadefire
dies, leave
Scooter the Snail
in the fight till he dies. Then swap in
Clockwork Gnome
and finish the fight.
Major Payne
Major Payne
Clockwork Gnome
,
Fel Flame
, and
Scooter the Snail
This fight can be difficult to level a pet with. You can sometimes swap out one of the above pets with a high (at least 20+) level pet with the same attack types and have them live for the experience gain. But if the RNG isn't with you that day, you may just need to use the above 3 pets and get your
Sack of Pet Supplies
and skip getting the experience for a pet.
Lead with
Clockwork Gnome
, using
Build Turret
and
Metal Fist
. Generally you can kill
Grizzle
without using using
Repair
.
When
Grizzle
dies, leave in
Clockwork Gnome
until it dies.
When
Clockwork Gnome
dies, swap in
Fel Flame
. Use
Immolate
to boost the damage on
Conflagrate
. Use
Burn
while
Conflagrate
is in cooldown.
When
Beakmaster
dies, leave in
Fel Flame
until it dies.
When
Fel Flame
dies, swap in
Scooter the Snail
. Use
Acidic Goo
to boost the damage of
Dive
, and
Absorb
while
Dive
is in cooldown.
Obalis
Obalis
Clockwork Gnome
,
Nether Faerie Dragon
(with
Life Exchange
instead of
Evanescence
),
Lil' Bad Wolf
Another fight that can be difficult to level a pet with.
If the RNG is going being nice, I've had
Nether Faerie Dragon
solo
Spring
and
Clatter
, but you can't count on it.
Lead with
Clockwork Gnome
. Follow this attack order
exactly
:
Build Turret
,
Repair
,
Build Turret
, then
Metal Fist
till
Clockwork Gnome
dies.
Swap in
Nether Faerie Dragon
.
Moonfire
then
Arcane Blast
till
Spring
is dead.
When
Clatter
swaps in,
Life Exchange
, then
Moonfire
if needed, and then
Arcane Blast
till
Nether Faerie Dragon
dies.
Finish the fight with
Lil' Bad Wolf
or critter fighter of your choice.
Hyuna of the Shrines
Hyuna of the Shrines
Nether Faerie Dragon
,
Jade Owl
, pet to level.
Nether Faerie Dragon
can almost solo this fight, he just needs one other pet to absorb one hit from
Dor the Wall
. So
Jade Owl
may not be needed, and two pets can gain experience here if one has enough health to take the hit.
Start with
Nether Faerie Dragon
.
Moonfire
then
Arcane Blast
till
Skyshaper
is dead.
When
Fangor
swaps in, do
Arcane Blast
,
Evanescence
(this will dodge
Fangor
's
Burrow
),
Moonfire
, then use
Arcane Blast
till
Fangor
is dead.
When
Dor the Wall
swaps in, swap in
Jade Owl
or another pet to absorb his
Headbutt
.
Headbutt
is his only attack, so while it is in cooldown you can safely swap pets around. At this point swap in a pet to level, it can be as low as a level one since he'll get a "free" hit.
Swap back to
Nether Faerie Dragon
with at least 2 rounds left on
Headbutt
because you want to cast
Evanescence
with 1 round left on
Headbutt
cooldown (
exception:
if
Headbutt
and
Healing Wave
have aligned on cooldown, he'll almost always cast
Healing Wave
first). If he goes opposite your guess, you may need to swap in another pet again to absorb another
Headbutt
. Otherwise, just continue with
Moonfire
and
Arcane Blast
, blocking
Headbutt
with
Evanescence
until
Dor the Wall
is dead. If you got bad luck and
Nether Faerie Dragon
dies, finish
Dor the Wall
with the
Jade Owl
using
Lift-Off
to avoid
Headbutt
.
Aki the Chosen
Aki the Chosen
Anubisath Idol
, pet to level.
You can throw in the
Jade Owl
for insurance, but with the right timing and not too much bad luck on the RNG,
Anubisath Idol
can solo this fight.
Lead with your pet(s) to level. Attack for one round for "credit", then swap in the
Anubisath Idol
.
Cast
Stoneskin
, and maintain it while battling all three opponents.
Crush
till
Chirrup
is low. When
Chirrup
gets low on health, alternate
Stoneskin
and
Crush
every other attack until
Chirrup
is dead. This will mean it takes longer to kill
Chirrup
, but ensures you enter the fight with
Stormlash
at max health and with 4 stacks of
Stoneskin
.
While fighting
Stormlash
, only use
Crush
. If you get a miss or two and
Stoneskin
runs out,
don't
renew it.
When
Whiskers
swaps in, he always leads with
Dive
. So your first two attacks should be:
Stoneskin
(you'd miss any attack here anyway while he was in
Dive
), then
Deflection
to avoid the damage when he comes out of
Dive
.
After this, continue to
Stoneskin
and
Crush
till
Whiskers
is dead, using
Deflection
to neutralize his
Dive
. If you get the timing wrong and or bad luck and
Anubisath Idol
dies, finish
Whiskers
with the
Jade Owl
using
Lift-Off
to avoid
Dive
.
Courageous Yon
Courageous Yon
Nether Faerie Dragon
, pet to level,
Clockwork Gnome
Very similar fight to
Hyuna of the Shrines
, but need a beast killer to finish.
Nether Faerie Dragon
will finish the first two opponents, swap in pet to level, finish with
Clockwork Gnome
.
Start with
Nether Faerie Dragon
.
Moonfire
then
Arcane Blast
till
Piqua
is dead.
When
Lapin
swaps in, do
Arcane Blast
,
Evanescence
(this will dodge
Lapin
's
Burrow
),
Moonfire
, then use
Arcane Blast
till
Lapin
is dead. It will be close but you should finish this fight with
Nether Faerie Dragon
alive with a sliver of health.
Bleat
will swap in and kill
Nether Faerie Dragon
.
Swap in pet to level, take a swing for "credit".
Swap in
Clockwork Gnome
or other Beast killer and finish.
Alternate Strategy
Anubisath Idol
, two pets to level. (Use
Sandstorm
instead of
Stoneskin
)
Start with
Anubisath Idol
. Keep
Sandstorm
up at all times. Use
Deflection
on any two-round attacks used against you. Kill the first two opponents, which
Anubisath Idol
should finish with most of his health still. When
Bleat
starts his
Stampede
, and
Sandstorm
still has at least 2 rounds left on it, swap in each of the two leveling pets.
Stampede
lasts three rounds, so you can swap in both leveling pets during the same
Stampede
. They will block all damage from
Stampede
because of
Sandstorm
, and a block gives a pet credit for the fight. Swap back to
Anubisath Idol
after each leveling pet has blocked, and finish off
Bleat
.
Farmer Nishi
Farmer Nishi
Dancing Water Skimmer
, pet to level,
Clockwork Gnome
A good
Dancing Water Skimmer
will finish the two elementals (I use a "balance"
Dancing Water Skimmer
), giving you a slot for a pet to level, and a slot for the
Clockwork Gnome
to finish the Beast.
Start the fight with
Dancing Water Skimmer
, and “load”
Pump
(it’s a 2 round attack).
As soon as
Siren
casts “Sunny Day”, cast
Cleansing Rain
. The trick to this fight is to keep turning
Sunny Day
into
Cleansing Rain
, that hamstrings
Siren
.
Pump
till
Siren
is dead. Make sure to recast
Cleansing Rain
if
Siren
puts up
Sunny Day
again. It's rare, but it happens.
Continue
Pump
till
Toothbreaker
is dead. Cast
Cleansing Rain
while
Toothbreaker
is using
Sons of the Root
to gain the slight healing, since you can't hit him anyway.
When
Toothbreaker
dies, continue with
Dancing Water Skimmer
till it dies.
Swap in pet to gain experience and take a swing for credit.
Swap in
Clockwork Gnome
and finish the fight.
Seeker Zusshi
Seeker Zusshi
Scooter the Snail
,
Lil' Bad Wolf
,
Jade Owl
The first of the Pandarian Tamer Battles that can be difficult to level a pet with.
You also need to be careful here attempting to level a pet, because
Diamond
has a root attack. Also,
Skimmer
's
Pump
hit's very hard with the
Cleansing Rain
bonus.
Start with
Scooter the Snail
. Use
Acidic Goo
to boost the damage of
Dive
, and
Absorb
while
Dive
is in cooldown.
When
Diamond
dies, what you do here depends on whether you are trying to gain experience on a pet or not. If not, just continue with
Scooter the Snail
till it's dead. Be aware while in
Dive
you can still be hit by
Mollus
'
Dive
.
Swap in
Lil' Bad Wolf
or other critter killer, use your Beast attacks to kill
Mollus
.
Swap in
Jade Owl
, and finish off
Skimmer
. Try and time
Lift-Off
to avoid
Skimmer
's
Pump
.
Wastewalker Shu
Wastewalker Shu
Jade Owl
,
Scooter the Snail
,
Clockwork Gnome
(Use
Launch Rocket
instead of
Build Turret
)
The second of the Pandarian Tamer Battles that can be difficult to level a pet with.
Also be aware
Pounder
has a back-row attack.
Start with
Jade Owl
. Cast
Adrenaline Rush
so you go first each round. Follow with
Slicing Wind
, and use
Lift-Off
to avoid damage from
Crusher
's
Whirlpool
attack.
When
Crusher
is dead, again depending on which pet slot you are trying to level, either continue till dead or swap in
Scooter the Snail
. As usual, use
Acidic Goo
to boost the damage of
Dive
, and
Absorb
while
Dive
is in cooldown.
When
Pounder
is dead, again depending on which pet slot you are trying to level, either continue till dead or swap in
Clockwork Gnome
.
Launch Rocket
to start, when
Mutilator
gets low you may be able to finish with
Metal Fist
.
Mo'ruk
Mo'ruk
Clockwork Gnome
,
Nether Faerie Dragon
(swap
Life Exchange
for
Evanescence
),
Jade Owl
The third of the Pandarian Tamer Battles that can be difficult to level a pet with.
Start with
Clockwork Gnome
, use this attack order:
Build Turret
,
Repair
,
Build Turret
, then
Metal Fist
till
Woodcarver
is dead.
When
Woodcarver
is dead, again depending on which pet slot you are trying to level, either continue till dead or swap in
Nether Faerie Dragon
. Standard rotation of
Moonfire
and then
Arcane Blast
till
Lightstalker
is dead.
When
Lightstalker
is dead, again depending on which pet slot you are trying to level, either continue till dead or swap in
Jade Owl
.
If you are leaving in
Nether Faerie Dragon
, replenish health with
Life Exchange
, and continue with
Moonfire
and
Arcane Blast
.
If switching to
Jade Owl
the standard rotation of
Adrenaline Rush
,
Lift-Off
when it's out of cooldown, and
Slicing Wind
otherwise.

Tnx for the guide. Trying it out now :)

You have as your "magic fighter" the Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling. In the battles listed above it isn't used anywhere. Curious as to where it fits in. Other than that, the guide looks great. Will be trying out as soon as servers are back up. Thanks for all the work; great job.

For Courageous Yon I use Anubisath Idol. He is able to solo it no problem. Use Sandstorm on Piqua right before he starts Flock then swap in a leveling pet. You can do this for two pets if desired. Conversely, you can also swap during Bleat's stampede as well. Your leveling pet will take some damage here so make sure it is able to absorb some.

This guide deserves more attention. It does not mean it's no good guide if it has not got color.
Thanks for brilliant guide.

A good useful guide, thanks for taking the time to put it together :D
If you were going to improve it at all it would be good to put the locations of the tamers in line with them and maybe add some tabs for each of the tamers with pictures?

Man, you love using a Clockwork Gnome don't you :-P (it's ok, I use my Phoenix Hatchling at every available opportunity).
You're guide is rather awesome, I just used it to level up two level 1 battle pets in one day. I played it safe and didn't level two pets at once like you suggest one could at certain times, I will try doing that another day. I wonder if I might be able to give some input involving certain fights, as I just did every single one of those dailies while leveling a pet.
1. Major Payne and Obalis: RNG does have to be in your favor, but if it is not there are stable masters very close to both of these guys. I say keep trying until you get some good RNG, only costs 10 silver per try and you don't have to use up your bandages.
2. Courageous Yon: In the spirit of leveling battle pets with this daily, Anubisath Idol can solo this fight and end with full health. Stoneskin will negate the stampedes, Deflection will counter all of the charge-up abilities, and the rabbit does almost no damage. If you instead use Sandstorm, Anubisath Idol will protect everyone from the stampedes. So you should be able to safely switch in a level 1 pet in the middle of a stampede, and bring Anubisath Idol back out in time to dodge a charge-up ability. And you can do it twice since Anubisath Idol won't be taking anything out in one or two hits.
3. Zusshi, Shu, Mo'ruk: These are not near a stable master, so they are more annoying with RNG. But still, they are all doable and worth it. The strategies that you have (using the first pet until it dies, bringing in the leveling pet for a turn, and finishing with the second or last pet) are solid strategies. Of the three I did today, I only had to do one twice. And besides, if you do these dailies regularly, you likely have a at least a small stock of bandages, this is a good use for them.
I could offer more input, but the rest of it will probably be my personal preference for pets. I can say that I don't have a rare level 25 Jade Owl (I will tomorrow as I got a flawless magic stone today), and the moth worked just fine, no issues.
I don't see the beasts of fable dailies being viable here, but do you think the Pandaren Spirit Tamer dailies could be used here as well?

It's a very nice guide, although I you should change Mo'ruk's section as it's actually quite easy to level a pet with him thanks to
http://snipurl.com/28qq1nz
, using a Son of Animus and an Emerald Whelping.

How about a guide that's not filled with extremely rare (as in difficult to obtain, not their quality) pets? That would be a LOT more useful.

How, exactly is Clockwork Gnome supposed to solo Lydia Accoste? A Mechanical, with Mechanical attacks, vs. an Elemental with Elemental attacks is a terrible matchup, even at 25 vs. a level 19.
