黑老鼠 - fairly uncommon as an addition. They can spawn at the Crucible of Carnage, but there are not many and the respawn seems slow. Oddly there are also a couple of free-range spawns in the cluster of four lakes in the far northwest of the map.

棕色土拨鼠 - I could not find a free-range marmot, but they commonly come as additions. There are many scalded basilisks to fight which have both brown marmots and skittering cavern crawlers joining the fight.

鹿齿土拨鼠 - somewhat uncommon because they do not come as additions, you must find free-range spawns along the river and some lakes/swamps. There are some in the bottom left of the map near the shore (oddly).

猫 - although it seems that the highest level cat is found in Netherstorm, they are only obtained here as an addition to a fight, and the battle pets in this zone are few and far apart. However, they are common additions.

Cheetah Cub ^ ∞

Barrens (North) 3

猎豹幼崽 - found under the savannah trees which also have Plainsland Cheetah mobs under them. This is presumed to be a battle pet attached to mother mobs. To promote respawn, kill cheetah mobs which do not have a cheetah cub by them and also cull other battle pets.

鸡 - found inside Westguard Keep (alliance) and also as additions throughout the zone.

Clefthoof Runt ^ ∞

裂蹄小牛 - fairly common in the northern part of the zone. Be careful to kill the ones that are stuck in trees, to help them respawn in a location where you can actually battle them.

珊瑚蛇 - fairly rare when looking for free-range ones, but if you go to the green clearing south of Windshear Hold on the map and fight the many spiders you will find there, the coral snakes are commonly found as additions.

In the first macro, replace the " by the proper caracter (a quotation mark).

Now all I need to figure out is how to make certain pets appear.. I've been hunting for a rare Undercity Rat. have a macro set up to cleartarget and everything, but none appear.. the ones that do appear and aren't battleable I've been killing in the hopes to spawn a battle pet. Any sudjestions?

This is a wonderful guide! Thank you so much for putting it together; it's been a great help in making my pet collecting more efficient.

I found a pet you missed, though. It is the grey moth, a level 1-2 pet that can only be found in Azuremyst Isle. It's fairly common there.

It would be great with a printable list, like this, where one could cross off the pets one had captured!

I know that I just could use the add-ons... but it would be cool to have "Shoppinglist" so I would know which areas/regions I still need to go to.. And make a gameplan!

I can not praise you and this guide loud enough - amazing work - thank you very VERY much - only started pet battles 2 days ago and already have one of each family up to 17 just from knowing where to go to get the right level opponents.

On a side note I notice you don’t have anything listed on Tol Barad - I just spotted a Wharf Rat (lvl 24) while I was there stealing fish - thought you might like to add that.

I......LOVE....YOU! I have been searching for two hours trying to find something complete by zone I could print to help me track my pets (I have add ons but wanted more). I played off and on with the battle pets, but didnt focus on really grinding to get the rares until lately. So now I have greens, and grays i need to go back to get and upgrade to rares. This is awesome!

Wharf Rat also appears on Tol Barad Peninsula, lvl 22-24, found a rare while doing dailies for commendations.

The 猎豹幼崽 is also found in the Southern Barrens. I captured a level 10 uncommon variant there. It was close to the Horde outpost Hunter's Hill - I was on my Horde toon and it is very helpful to know that there is a stable master 穆纳达 there as well, to heal up pets if you are battling with lower level pets :).

So, as a FYI, the pet is not unique to Northern Barrens and one can capture a pet level higher than 3.

I think I understand that this macro will list the rarity of the pets you are battling in chat. But, when I mouse of the enemy pets during the battle the rares appear in blue? Is the mouse over not always correct?
I am confused, please help.

A Draenor update to this very well laid out guide would be awesome.

Just a little nitpicky, but in the Kun-Lai section, it says "Apline Foxling Kit"... Alpine is spelled wrong.

Thank you! I wasn't leveling pets as I leveled my characters and this quide has been a big help. I enjoy the hunt, but not wasting my time!
