Rares are Advantageous at Low Levels

Introduction
With the advent of World of Warcraft trial accounts, there has been a renewed interest in the low level game. Even many players with regular accounts (like me) have adopted free accounts on the side. My past experience with raising new characters inspired me to take my newbies to Eversong Woods (Horde) or Azuremyst Isle (Alliance) for the best gear and the fastest experience. This is no longer true. The original newbie zones now offer a huge advantage... Rares!
Low level rares are great to kill for two equally important reasons: (1) certain rare mobs drop bags nearly 100% of the time, and (2) all rare mobs have very large experience bonuses. How large? At level seven with full blue, I've had several characters earn that entire level and a half by killing only four rares and a handful a regular mobs. Wow! At level ten and full blue five rares and change will do it. At level twelve and full blue a level and a half will take you about eight rares, slower but still much faster than just about anywhere else.
While this guide has many advantages for trial account players since it provides easy access to free bags, it should also be helpful to paid account players as well, especially if you're not into twinking your low level characters. In fact, even Gnolls, Worgen, and Pandas would be well served by running straight to the original newbie zones for some quick experience and all the six-slot bags you want.
Now back to those important reasons. This guide will identify which rares drop bags and which don't. And while there is a statistical possibility that the bag droppers won't drop a bag, the chance is so small as to be nonexistent. Killing seven bag droppers will yield seven bags 99% of the time. The bag droppers tend to be lower levels (from 4 to 9 with an average level of 6.7) and non-bag droppers run a little higher in level (from 9 to 11 with an average level of 9.3). For trial account players, these will probably be the only bags they'll need until they earn their 16-slot faction bags.
Quick Reference
Not all of the original newbie zones are created equal. Some have more rares, some have less. The rares are lower level in some zones, higher in others. Most rares are right out in the open and easily accessible. A few rares are deep inside caves and take time and effort to get to. Some rares stay in one place and others move around. One particular rare (in Elwynn Forest) drops a four slot bag instead of a six slot bag. The
Notes
at the bottom of each tab will help you determine which zones and which rares are worth your time.
This table is a quick guide to what's available in each of the six original newbie zones.

The Details
The descriptions in the tabs below provide details on what's available in each of these zones. Waypoints are provided to help you find these rare mobs quickly.
Waypoints are coordinate messages which can be used with certain add-ons to provide quick directions to specific locations. I use the add-on
TomTom
for this purpose and I highly recommend it.
Once you have the TomTom add-on, you can use these waypoints in one of two ways: (1) either copy and paste coordinates one line at a time from the information above to your chat line in WoW, or (2) copy and paste each full set of waypoints into a macro then click the macro to load the coordinates into your map. Keep in mind that you must be in the specific zone the coordinates are for before you attempt to use them.
You will note that many of the waypoints provided include the name of the rare mob they point to. However, if multiple waypoints are provided for a single mob, the name is only given on the first set of coordinates. This is done to save space in macros. Each waypoint without a mob name belongs to the closest named waypoint above it. If this is confusing in game, simply add the appropriate mob name to the unidentified coordinates.
In cases where only one waypoint is provided, the rare mob probably moves but stays near this fixed point so should be easy to find.
In cases where multiple waypoints are provided but there is no mention of a "circle" or any other type of description, the rare mob either stays near those fixed points or walks in a line back and forth between them. Either way, they should still be easy to find.

Final Thoughts
Do not expect to get great gear while killing low level rare mobs. While they do drop some, the chances of getting something useful are pretty small.
In addition, you level so quickly using this method that you have no opportunity to earn gold. The best money makers are extra bags you don't need which sell for each. You'll basically be just as broke after you do this as when you started. But if you use the information provided here you'll get from level 5-6 to level 12-13 very quickly and the opportunities to earn gold increase with levels. In the long run you'll earn gold faster despite the lack of it here.
Respawn timers are not really a concern. While I've seen estimates on some of these rare mobs with times as long as two hours, I've never had more than one rare mob in a zone unavailable upon arrival. The spawn times must be fairly quick.
My personal favorite low level rare mob zones are Teldrassil (Alliance) and Tirisfal Glades (Horde). Your mileage may vary.

BONUS!
Your newbie character can earn a 16 slot bag very easily, even at very low levels. Simply go to
Darkmoon Island
and earn a
Darkmoon Prize Ticket
. There are a bunch of very easy ways to do this. Take your ticket to
Gelvas Grimegate
and trade it for a
Darkmoon Storage Box
. It's that easy.

This is my first attempt at writing a guide here. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Cool guide, especially since lower level rares are often overlooked! I can definitely see the perk of killing them as a leveling toon, but also the fun of going after them in higher levels.
In the "Quick Reference" table, an added column of the total number of rares could help a lot, especially in terms of deciding which zone to level a character in due to the increased chance of xp gains. addressed
There's so much extra space in each tab in the "Details" section that you may want to consider inserting a map of each zone with the spawn points of each rare found in the zone or a picture of the rares. Conversely, you may want to redesign the section so the space is better utilized. addressed
You may want to move the "Info about Waypoints" tab to the first one in the set so players know how to use the information in the other tabs, instead of getting the information & going "wtf?" until they see that tab. Players that already know how to use waypoints can easily switch out of the tab and into the zone tabs, no harm no foul. addressed
These are small concerns in comparison to the entire guide, which I'll reiterate is a good and often ignored piece of the content!
