Artifact Appearance
Guardian - Might of the Grizzlemaw
Gear
This is one of the more difficult Scenarios, as such at this stage of legion I would reccomend you have at least item level 930 and 66+ traits. It can be done at far lower item levels (900+) but will be far more difficult as gear makes this challenge significantly easier. Any set bonuses should help, but none stand out and most trinkets will be useful here, damage is generally more valuable than survivability.

Legendaries
Some legendarys excel greatly, mostly for their raw damage, below are the best two! But others will do just fine.
Your first legendary should ideally be

Here are the talents that I recommend.

Abilities
This is a two phase fight. Phase 1 takes place against
Inquisitor Variss
and Phase 2 takes place against
Highlord Krull
himself.
Phase 1
凋零光环
- The inquisitor is always surrounded by a Necrotic Aura which reduces your max health as you stand in it.

- An interruptable cast that deals moderate damage to the target.

- An interruptable cast that drains health from its target.
Tormenting Eye:

- A channeled spell that, when completed, will knock back its target if it is not looking at the eye.

- Prevents the Tormenting Eye from being damaged by Physical attacks
Smoldering Infernal:
The Smoldering Infernal never truly dies and will reform after some time.

- The infernal will lose 10% health and deal minor damage to all enemies. This occurs until the Smoldering Infernal reaches 20% health, at which point the Smoldering Infernal will take bonus physical damage.

Nether Horror:

Periodically throughout the phase, purple beams will cross the platform which attempt to push the player off the platform.

- Krull will use this on his primary target and increase all damage taken. This effect stacks. Interrupting Krull's cast of

will make him cast it again.

- Krull jumps on his target and leaves a fire puddle that deals massive damage to any creature standing in it.

on the target. Melee attacks made against this debuffed player heal Krull for 5% of his health.
Smoldering Infernal:
The Smoldering Infernal never truly dies and will reform after some time.

4 Nether Horror adds will spawn from portals around the arena approximately every 40 seconds.

Velen
Velen is here to aid you! Unfortunately, he doesn't heal that often but does help with

- Velen will place down a sphere approximately every 30 seconds. Running into it will interrupt and blind all enemies for 5 seconds, while healing the player and cleansing them of any magic debuffs.
Phase 1 Strategy
If you are taking

, and use it on pull it may not be up untill well into Phase 2 depending on your gear, i would reccomend still taking and using this in Stage one, as you will get it towards the tail end of Phase 2 more than likely. The sooner you get out of Phase 1 the less Infernals you get and the easier Stage two will be.
Maintain
月火术
on each Tormenting Eye. With gear above ~905 item level, you should only have to
月火术
each Eye once.
Note: When you hit an Orb, it will remove your
月火术
and you'll have to reapply it.
Use extra rage on
重殴
since
铁鬃
is not useful. For stage one it is all magical damage!
迎头痛击
will force you to enter the Inquistor's
凋零光环
. After interrupting
吸取生命
, you can stay inside his aura to do more damage, since there will be a long period before he casts
吸取生命
again.
In the worst case, you can also use one of Velen's Orbs to interrupt Drain Life.
Kite Infernals until they reach 20%. Stack up the
痛击
DoT on them if possible, but they won't take bonus damage until 20%. Don't bother casting
月火术
on them
夺魂咆哮
should be used exclusively to stop the Nether Horror's
虚空风暴
. However, you should do this
after
the cast, and during the channel. This will render the Nether Horrors as complete fodder for about 20 seconds and just follow you around almost harmlessly. If you do it before the cast finishes, the Nether Horror will cast again. If you can also hit the boss with
夺魂咆哮
by standing on the edge of his circle to reset his cast, it's a bonus.
Note:
夺魂咆哮
is currently bugged in the encounter and will make targets hit
completely immune
until it wears off. Not ideal, but if you interrupt properly, the Nether Horrors won't be a threat anyways and there's no rush to kill them.
If you have an Infernal that is taking bonus physical damage,
沉睡者之怒
will leech a large amount of health back to you.
The transition to P2 can be one of the more hectic parts of the fight. In an ideal world you will want to make sure that Nether Horrors are not currently spawning and that'll you'll be full health a few seconds after Krull lands. You can either use an Orb right before the transition or use
沉睡者之怒
to leech health back. If not just cleave them down during Stage two. All eyes will despawn.
Phase 2 Strategy
On the transition, all current Tormenting Eyes will despawn, no more Infernals will spawn, but all current Infernals will remain in the fight. P2 is a DPS check due to his
生灵俱灭
casts which will hit the player harder and harder as the phase goes on. Use
狂怒战鼓
, and if you held it, or its up again
化身:乌索克的守护者
, hopefully
沉睡者之怒
will be back and a potion to deal as much damage as possible before anything happens.
Nether Horrors in this phase tend to actually run for Velen. This means you'll need to pick them up and make sure that Velen doesn't die to
虚空风暴
through
夺魂咆哮
and moving them away.
Krull's melee attacks are weak and the only time you'll really need
铁鬃
is for
生灵俱灭
.
Krull's
虚空践踏
has travel time and an animation. Despite the tooltip it doesn't knock you back, but leaves a pool on the ground that deals a massive amount of damage. It's on a relatively set timer which means you can expect it and bait the pool towards the edge and then:
Interrupt him mid jump via an Orb or Stun, causing the ability to be canceled entirely.
Jump the second he's about to land and only take a single tick of the damage. You will not be snared by the pool.
Remember to use
狂暴回复
to help heal back some of the damage from this.
Krull's
生灵俱灭
has a 2 second cast time. Interrupting it through an Orb,
蛮力猛击
or
夺魂咆哮
will make him cast it again. However, that is valuable time where you are delaying his future annihilates in order to beat the tight DPS check.
Note: Occasionally, Krull will decide to cast
生灵俱灭
on Kor'vas. It seems random, but if it happens, congratulations, you just reduced the DPS check by a large amount. Multiple
生灵俱灭
s cast on Kor'vas will end the encounter though, so be careful.
Continue to save
夺魂咆哮
for Nether Horror's
虚空风暴
channel. It's super dangerous to let them channel in this phase.
Interrupting
扭曲的映像
will sometimes force you into a
虚空践踏
. It sucks. If you miss a kick, don't let Krull melee you and quickly pop and Orb to remove the debuff.
You can use the Purple Cutters to your advantage to be pushed out of mechanics, but if you are being pushed against your will, run against it and you'll eventually force your way through it.
Try to save both charges of
生存本能
for the third cast of
生灵俱灭
and the
虚空践踏
right after as that is when the debuff should be the highest. You should aim to avoid the 4th
生灵俱灭
. Depending on gear this may not be necessary however.
Reminders:
The key to this fight is maximizing your damage while surviving the mechanics.
You may need to feel out how many stacks in phase one you should go up to based on your gear, the higher you can comfortably go the more damage you will do.
Be careful not to refresh your stacks in Phase one early don't be too eager to deal damage or run in to kick him refreshing your stacks..
Make sure
虚空恐魔
die quickly or are interrupted, and keep them away from velen!
地精滑翔器工具包
can save your life, you may not need them but having them available and on a comfortable keybind will salvage many attempts.
You can use Velens orbs to interrupt any of his abilitys if you don't have a proper answer to them, whether it be a
吸取生命
or an
生灵俱灭
.
Stay calm it is easy to make a mistake that instantly kills you especially at lower percentages.
Killing
虚空恐魔
should be a priority when they are out, but they should die relatively quickly so long as you are cleaving them.

I think Survival of the Fittest is probably better than Guardian of Elune because you'll barely ever be able to use your mangle procs for anything on phase 1.
I would also throw our that Prydaz cuts down on your incoming damage by an awful lot, so if you have at least one of Ekowraith or Luffa's but not much else to try that out. It helps you bank several extra orbs which can really help in phase 2.
Also of note is whatsherface the Demon Hunter seems to have some sort of Intercept-like stun she uses when Kruul gets far away from her. I'm not really sure how reliable it is but I did notice it once or twice on my clear.

Has anyone tried it on the PTR? With the removal of Mark of Ursol, I'm wondering how that will affect the challenge for Guardian. Are we going to have to wait until totally outgear the challenge with Tomb gear before we'll be able to do it since it's so magic-based?

I got the appearance just before this weeks maintenance, for those still looking for an answer on the Dungeon skin unlock.
I unlocked it with just doing Heroic (Cathedral of Eternal Night, Court of Stars, Arcway, Upper and lower Return Karazhan) and all the rest on Normal. i only did the runs once.

I did mine yesterday (patch 7.2.5) using Ekowraith/Luffa.
Talents I used 1/1/1/1/2/2/1. Held Incarnation for 2nd phase to burst Kruul quickly with Drums and all CDS :)
I used Horn of Valor 890 (I think?) and Fang of Tichondrius 895.

Completed last night at 905 iLvl using DBM Challenges mod.
Oddly enough I had a half dozen wipes due to finishing P1 too quickly and not having Incarnation up early enough to beat the dps check in P2. Eventually I found the right timing and it went smoothly - also kited Kruul around Valen to avoid him netherstomping on top of an Orb. Also Also , I timed Rage of the Sleeper with an Annihilate cast to help soak up the damage. Armory link with gear and talents below (exception being I took Balance Affinity - not Resto:

Legendaries
Due to the changes to the Guardian Druid scenario, legendaries can greatly increase your chance at success.
Your first legendary should ideally be Luffa Wrappings. This will easily allow you to Thrash the Inquisitor from outside his Aura of Decay with Balance Affinity
An alternative is Ekowraith, Creator of Worlds which will also allow you to Thrash the Inquisitor from outside but at a slightly smaller radius
Lets see
Ranges:
痛击
: 8 yards
平衡亲和
: 5 yards
For
丝瓜裹腕
(8+5) * 1.25 = 16,25 ~ 17 yards
or
(8*1,25) + 5 = 15 yards
For
艾克雷斯,创世者
8 + (5 * 1,75) = 16,75 ~ 17 yards
So as the result looks. With Ekko you have a higher range or the same after rounding. Please point out my failure if i made one, but for me it seem to be that Ekko is the better option for simply range.

Do you know if the apperance is "account bound" or "soulbound" to the character that killed Kruul? Also will you be able to still use the apperance if paying for a change to another race?

so how are you supposed to deal with the stomp? there is no travel time when i do it since, being the tank & all, he's already at me so he doesn't have to leap, leaving me right in the middle of the stomp, also it slows so i usually die before i can get out of it, so what the hell

I just did this a few minutes ago on my 924 LFR geared Druid alt, with a 930 weapon and level 67 traits, and with crappy legendaries. A couple of tips that for sure helped me.
Take Wild Charge. Don't listen to other guides if you aren't too hot on avoiding the Infernal's smashes. On my clear I used Wild Charge
twice
after almost getting knocked off the platform. Use it the instant you get knocked back and you'll just charge straight back in.
Google search "guardian druid mage tower weakauras". Someone made a couple that give you a huge icon for your debuff stacks and a timer that predicts when the next Drain Life cast will happen. Very useful.
Set up a macro to cast Skull Bash at your focus target, make Variss your focus target before you start, and make a macro to target Highlord Kruul and make him your focus.
/target Highlord Kruul
/focus
Use this as soon as he lands after killing the first dude. That way you'll always be ready to interrupt the necessary spells.
Spam Moonfire at Variss when you aren't doing anything else. At these item levels, it does a decent-ish amount of damage. Just one cast on the eyes was enough to take them out pretty quickly and focus on other things. Try to time it so when the elemental adds swarm you that you have lost your debuff stacks and go ham on Varriss while you cleave the elementals. Use something like Barkskin (+Brambles talent) or Rage of the Sleeper and Thrash and Swipe spam was usually enough to take them out while putting some serious hurt on Variss.
It took me about 15 tries in a row to get it down. By that time I had run out of all consumables except Drums and my Broken Shore reusable flask lol, so it will probably be easier if you keep yourself properly buffed. I didn't have any tier set bonuses or special trinkets. If you can get it (from any tier of Antorus), the

trinket would be incredible here. I have it on my Blood Death Knight, and the amount of healing it puts out is insane.

Need advice. I have done Kruul on pally and DH but my druid is kicking my arse. So far the best damage i can get on p1 is Moonfire, with a few thrashes if i can get a multithrash to pop during an interrupt wave. My biggest issue is healing, i can't seem to keep health up without using an orb, since regeneration is so meager. I would take resto affinity for the slight heal from Ysera's gift, but it almost doesn't seem worth it either because of getting popped out of bear for every other cast it gives. I just really want my werebear before BFA so when i level him as an alt i have it.

My favorite legendaries for this are Luffas and the moonkin shoulders The Lady and the Child - this DoT-orientated combo makes the whole fight much more manageable imo, especially with the new "free" BfA pre-patch 8.0 artifact weapon buff from Silithus (artifact weapon level 126+, Legionfall level 75+). That said, I think Blizzard did a pretty bad job overall balancing the challenges - there's way, WAY too much RNG involved. No one wants to fight RNG. Elemental shaman (Agatha) e.g. was very easy, enhancement shaman (Sigryn) has harder mechanics but doable, and guardian druid felt insanely hard in comparison - a total overload of mechanics and RNG, which ramp up way too fast. Brewmaster on the other hand was a breeze with Niuzao - have the ox tank the inquisitor and you can literally burst through p1 with the artifact weapon buff from Silithus. The difficulty of the enhancement shaman challenge should have been the reference for all challenges to give casual gamers a fair chance.

Here's how I tackled this.
I did the challenge on my 25th attempt with 134 artifact levels, 937 ilvl, Luffa + Ekowraith. Talents: 3, 3, 1, 1, 2, 3, 1. Last attempt lasted for 3:14.
Given this setup, this is pretty much "cheesing it", although I pretty much stopped active tanking during WotLK, and I'm a casual extraordinaire. Therefore, it was still a relative challenge for me, with all due respect to people who achieved it under less favourable circumstances. I think I understand what you went through, I tip my hat to you all.
Some pointers from me.
1. Macros helped immensely
, I had five of them, and I'll list them all, in order.
/cast Skull Bash
Thanks to Treufuß from EU Blizz forums for that one.
This one is to interrupt Variss's Drain Life.

A small, overkill surprise for Kruul.
2. More tips.
-Bear Tartare, Flask of the Seventh Demon and Lightforged Augment Rune went before Phase 1. Drums of the Mountain and Potion of Prolonged Power, along with other burst skills went the second Kruul arrived. I had no need for any offensive cooldowns in Phase 1 (looking at you, Incarnation).
- Use orbs, just try to save one orb for Phase 2. I needed one.
- You might be tempted to keep looking at Kruul's HP during Phase 2. Don't. Focus more on the area, on Velen's HP once in a while, and of course - on DBM warnings.
-
Max zoom out + jumping during Phase 2 helped me a lot with Annihilation and these barrier thingies.
- I didn't use any defensive skills strategically (as in, right skills at the right time), as I had a feeling that my current setup and an orb didn't really require a strategic use of defensives. The one time I used them was spamming them all during one "oh shizzle" Phase 2 moment during my last, sucessful run. A macro could work for that, methinks.
- For me, Phase 1 was all about spamming 3 macros (swipe/thrash, moonfire and skullbash) in the right time. While running in circles is relatively necessary, don't forget you can always change direction, especially when you're getting to the opposite side of the pool with Horrors spawning. Velen dies almost instantly to them.
- Phase 2 was utter chaos. I believe I did about 20 tries without the overkill macro, drums and pots, and all failed miserably mid-Phase 2. Introducing drums and the pot seem to helped immensely. After I introduced the macro, I had one attempt with me dying at 1% (and watching Kruul kill Velen before the dots could finish him off) and a second one where Velen died before me, also somewhere near 1-2%. Third one was a charm.
- Don't forget, that the 10min drum cd resets upon reentering the challenge.
- Moonfire the shizzle out of Kruul. Modifying the Moonfire macro to include him sounds like a good idea, but I didn't do it.

I have made almost 50 attempts on my Druid tank with no success. The chaos alone is bull$%^& and making it a DPS race for tanks is ridiculous on top of all the adds you must control. Challenge is clearly geared for hard-core raiders. As a casual player and tank I haven’t had any luck up until the end. I’ve played this character for 13 years so I know what I’m doing but life doesn’t allow for raiding. Sad that such a cool look is locked behind such an insane challenge and makes me question the future of casual playing in World of Warcraft where it seems all the rewards go to the hard-core raiders. Guess it’s time to check out Star Trek Online or another game that appreciates all its player bases.

This is based on the fact I haven't heard that you could try/complete the Mage Tower Challenge from Legion... ( /w the new leveling system)
So /w the leveling changes with Shadowlands, if you choose to level through Legion why not allow people the opportunity to do the mage tower challenge quest, as it was a part of Legion... If your worried about over leveling to make it easy, then just level cap it, Blizzard already does it for Timewalking Dungeons/Raids. Any player could then do the challenges, but they continue to maintain the same 'level of challenge' it always was, as stands Blizzard is just cutting off any players that were unable to play the 'Part' of Legion that had the mage tower and ability to do the challenge. Not that blizzard would do it, just a personal opinion that it should be an option, as stands Blizzard is just punishing players for their absence during the available time in Legion... and while I know they want you playing 24/7/365 some absences from gaming are RL issues that
ACTUALLY
make it impossible to play. Personally I missed out on all of the mage tower challenges due to medical reasons that left me unable to play, just my opinion.... gaming companies in general should consider that
NOT EVERYONE
is a hardcore gamer whose life revolves around the game, life happens and they should take that into account. I can somewhat see why you'd lock it for BFA because they don't want to make it a walk in the park, but you can do that by level locking the instance; and personally with the changes to leveling and "choose your own expansion" so players can experience part of the game/history if they were unable to previously, I think that should include the mage tower challenge.
Likely those who were able to play and complete the challenge would probably argue against this, because everyone wants something special and unique that no one else can get anymore. As a gamer that is frequently unable to play any game due to a genetic medical issue that I have no control over it annoys me when companies due this sort of thing.
Perhaps some would agree on my stance because they were in a similar situation, or for some reason they were unable to complete it before it was locked out. Blizzard (more than any other company) has a tendency to do this, which makes me question why I'm still here... but that answer is simple, it's because I enjoy the story, and have played since the original WarCraft,
Long
