Feathermane Hunter Pets
Feathermanes are the new Hunter pet family added in patch 7.2. This family includes flying and feathered beasts such as gryphons, wyvern, hippogryphs, wolfhawks, and owlcats. Hunters can learn how to tame Feathermanes by acquiring a

Feathermane Pet Taming Guides
Navigate with the tabs below to find full guides on how to find and tame each of the Feathermane pets being added in patch 7.2.
Netherbeak
灵喙
is an arcane/purple hippogryph found flying high above Azsuna. The challenge here is that Netherbeak is in stealth, so you must fly around and eventually get close enough to remove stealth and aggro him. Head to the tallest peak in Aszuna, located on your map in between Azurewing Repose and Nor'danil Wellspring. Netherbeak's patrol path often crosses through this area, and he can be found about 30-40 yards above the building at the top of this peak.
Be sure to use
追踪隐藏生物
to increase your stealth detection range. Once you aggro Netherbeak, you'll want to quickly land on the ground, use
灵龟守护
, and begin taming. Without Aspect of the Turtle, Netherbeak hits hard enough to kill you.

Lalathin <Elisande's Pet>
莱勒辛
is a corrupted hippogryph found in The Nighthold raid instance. It it kept in Elisande's secret quarters, which can only be accessed once every 8 weeks when the
暗夜要塞:心碎
world quest is active. This world quest requires that the raid kills all of the NPCs in this room (except
莱勒辛
). If you're doing this in a group, you'll have to let them know ahead of time not to accidentally kill the pet when they pull (it's neutral so it won't attack by itself).
Also note that this area is not accessible in LFR difficulty.
It is possible to solo tame this in certain conditions:
Complete
暗夜要塞:夏多雷护符
on Normal difficulty or higher to unlock access to the early teleporter. You can also find someone else who has this unlocked.
Use the
伪装
talent.
Stealth past the initial trash of the raid, then at the bottom of the ramp turn right to enter the teleporter room.
Teleport to Elisande's secret quarters (remember, this only works once every 8 weeks when the
暗夜要塞:心碎
is active).
Use Camouflage to get to the back of the room where Lalathin is found in a cage.
Use
灵龟守护
and begin taming. You will aggro nearby mobs but Turtle should keep you alive.
If Lalathin is killed or tamed by someone else, it will respawn within about 30 minutes. If it doesn't, leave the raid for about an hour and re-enter (this will respawn all the world quest mobs).
Grand Hippogryphs - Blue and Gold
This color of Grand Hippogryph is available from several common NPCs. These pets will fight entirely on the ground and do not have flying animations once tamed.

Classic Hippogryphs
Classic hippogryphs use flying animations and spend all of their time hovering in the air once tamed. Several of these hippogryphs are friendly to the Alliance faction, and thus can only be tamed by Horde players. However, there are other options for Alliance players to get all of the various colors.

Note: Needs to be spawned. Use the

emote on Frayfeather Hippogryphs in the Ruins of Isildien area. Eventually, Skystormer will spawn at

Grand Gryphons
These higher resolution gryphons were added in the Battle for Azeroth expansion. They were originally seen on Alliance mounts from the Mists of Pandaria expansion, but we can finally tame them. They come in 3 colors and all are found in Kul Tiras, which means you must be at least level 110. There are no special tricks to taming these, although the two grey versions are sometimes World Quest targets, which could interfere with taming.

Jetwing
墨翼
is a dark colored gryphon found in The Hinterlands. It patrols high in the sky, in the central part of zone near Valorwind lake. In order to tame this one, you will have to fly beside it, dismount, and then attack it mid-air before you fall. Use some form of slow fall (or Disengage right before you hit the ground) in order to survive the fall. Jetwing will follow you down, so be ready to begin taming once you land.
Jetwing is very easy to spot above the treeline, as seen above. He has a very long respawn time, definitely the longest of any Feathermane. It looks to be at least 12 hours, possibly more.

Snowblind
is a rare white gryphon found in Winterspring. In order to spawn it, you need to head to the Hidden Grove and destroy the Large Nest on the ground (by clicking it), which will spawn Snowblind. The respawn time of the nest is several hours.

Sorrow Wing
悲哀之翼

Pridewing Patriarch
The
巨翼雄兽
is green wyvern found in Stonetalon Mountains. This is a rare spawn, but in order to spawn it you must kill other Pridewings in the area (Windshear Heights). Whenever you kill one, there's a chance the Patriarch will spawn. There may be multiple spawn points, but one confirmed spawn point is marked below. Like all wyvern, the Pridewing Patriarch only has flying animations and does not spend any time on the ground.

Very Lost Feathermane Kitten
The
非常迷茫的羽鬃小猫
is found in Suramar. You'll find it wandering near
黯牙
and the other wolves at the western end of the zone. The trick is that this kitten is stealthed, so the only way to find it is to search the area with
追踪隐藏生物
enabled to try and find it. You can also use
照明弹
to try and locate it. Listen for the stealth sound as it may be the only clue that you're close. The map below shows its approximate location (it patrols around this area).

It's interesting to have an entire guide on taming, yet not a single mention of the combat abilities any of these have. Not that it matters, since all BM hunters are running a Bloodlust pet if no other bloodlust in the group or a combat res pet in all other cases.

Thank you for the excellent guide. This will be a great help as soon as I get the Tome (which I'm planning to buy and send to *all* my hunters) and head out to start taming!.

Seeing as these beasts are winged and are able to fly out in the wild I feel like it's a pretty big let down that once tamed they just vanish when their new master mounts up and takes off.
The tamed gryphons don't even have a running, standing ground animation to begin with for crying out loud.
They should have flown alongside the hunter's flying mount.
I'm disappointed Blizzard.

You don't need

. I managed to tame them with just

on my fresh Tauren Hunter after using

I'm pretty let down by two major flaws I see in the wolfhawk model so far, both being animation. When the model turns its head left and right, the ears DO NOT move with it (they aren't attached to the skeleton of the head and stay behind). That's the main issue I'm having with this otherwise beautiful model. The second flaw I've seen is also an animation issue around the arms when it lowers to the ground a bit, and the feathers are sticking through on its left forearm. These are more noticeable as tameable pets than on the mount itself, as the pet continuously looks left and right.
Otherwise, I'm in love with the wolfhawks. I'm not sure where else I should put this so I put it here!

You no longer need pathfinder to get the Tome of the Hybrid Beast.
One of the main reasons I even started Pathfinder was for the ability to tame Hippogryphs. I was so close to Pathfinder Part 1, but somewhere along the way I decided that I may as well try to get a head start on Pathfinder Pat 2 in the mean time. So I finished the Broken Isles questline (and the rest of Part 2, actually...), then got the quest for the Wolfhawk mount. After completing that questline I was checking out Pan's wares and noticed that the Tome was among the items that I could buy, however it said I needed "Power Ascended on Titanstrike", or something to that affect. Well, I'm a Survival Hunter. No worries though, from other comments here I figured merely having Titanstrike maxed on on talents would be enough. It actually was, but you need to be in BM spec to purchase the item.
So there's my story.
You don't need pathfinder, but the class mount quest will unlock when you complete the Broken Shores questline
(not hard),
then you can spec into BM
(if you're not already)
after the quest is complete and buy the item
. As of writing this, I still need about 1,700 rep on Wardens before I can fly in the Broken Isles, btw.

I think all of the Feathermane pets are now Tenacity (Tank pets) which really is dissapointing

As of 8.0.1, I can confirm you no longer need Pathfinder acheivements, or Power Ascended.
If you just complete the legionfall campaign, you will unlock the Golden Ticket quest, and you will get the class mount. Then if you go to Pan the Kind Hand, you can purchase the two other class mounts and the book which lets you train Feathermane pets

Worth noting for the Wolfhawks: While out of combat, they do run on all fours along the ground, but when just standing around, they still hover in the air, kinda the way Chimera pets do. That was disappointing, because I personally dislike the aesthetic of the "constant hover" pets.

It was a lot of effort for a pet type that I never use and that has a subpar ability.

Can confirm that if you have two hunters, and one hunter has unlocked feathermane taming and the other hasn't, then the one that hasn't can still buy the tome without doing any of the achievements. So you don't need to unlock it on both hunters, but you do need to spend the 1k order resources to buy it on both hunters.

I really appreciate this guide because it's helped me tame several of Feathermanes. It's really disappointing to grind for almost a week just for the devs to eventually take out flying animations for the majority of the pets. So, if you're like me and actually want a flying Tenacity pet, your only options are the old gryphons, Jetwing, Snowblind, and the Wolfhawks to an extent. Still, I'd consider going for them since they're clearly meant to be Hunter pets.
