Named Rattlebore "by an adventurer from the Plaguelands"; clearly a reference to Rattlegore, the Scholomance boss, and possibly also Borelgore, the giant maggot in Eastern Plaguelands.

Easily soloed as a shadowpriest. Just apply dots and run. Keep refreshing dots and he'll be dead by the time you get out of the cave. Not slowable, but his speed seems to be the same as running speed (without enchants) so he won't catch up. :)
I imagine this could also easily be done by warlocks, hunters etc.

Pre-HoT yourself with a regrowth and rejuv. Go chicken and blast him. make sure insect swarm doesn't fall off, its your life.
When you get to half hp, pop barkskin shift out, and throw every hot you have.
Repeat till dead.
If you have the insect swarm glyph, it's going to hurt.

Damn this guy was hard to solo.
Took me 4 atempts at lvl 74 as a retri pala.
Last atempt and kill i did it with retry spec but with full holy gear (lvl 70 epic holy gear)
I used everything i had. it took 2 bubbles, 1 BoP, Lifeblood (i'm a herbalist) on cooldown, and 1 major rejuve potion.
So about 15 minutes :)
And i think it has some sort of enrage, alotough not marked by any emote or anything, but in the end it started hitting alot harder. He was at about 500 HP but all i could do is heal myself, barely keeping me above 1k health.
If you're going to try this as pally, use Devine plea while bubbled, after you heald yourself to full, so you don't get the healing penalty when you really need it.
Al in all, if you want to try and be proud of soloing, do it. Else, get a friend and save yourself the stress :)

Just soloed him as a 76 Enhancement Shaman in blues & s2 weapons. Didn't see any other shamans posting so I figured I'd share.
Set up all totems, then cast lava burst, then drop earth elemental. Keep yourself & elemental topped off until aggro seems pretty stable. Drop Spirit wolves, pop trinkets & Bloodlust, go nuts. Don't forget to heal the elemental when he gets to 35-50%, the worm hits for 2-4k easily.
Took me 3 tries. First time I used the above strat and died at 1% due to some nasty crits. Second I tried with fire elemental and failed miserably. Third time was a charm :)
Good luck.

Solod at 74 unholy DK. By Icy touching and death coils while kiting. Be sure to clear to him and pull immediately so you don't run into dazing respawns. Aside from them fairly straight forward, he won't catch you even without the speed increase but I imagine it helped. Don't jump off cliffs unless you can hit him the whole time he paths to you. Even then you shouldn't need to, he died at the mouth of the cave for me the first time and at the goblin the second, hope this helps.
<Edit>
TLDR: For a DK just spam icy touch while you run and he'll die.

Easily soloable by a DK in tanking gear. Just soloed it as 6/5/55 wearing full tanking gear, 16.6K HP, 18.3k armor 34% dodge + parry and crit immune(to a 74), Put diseases on him blood strike x2 to convert runes then death strike every time that diseases are up and you have the runes. Used one healing potion(Super Healing Potion 1500-2500 HP) but was not neccisarry as I finished the fight with almost 10k remaining.

It was doable as a L75 DK with heavy investments in the unholy tree, it's vital to have enough left of the elixir buff to last you through the fight, other than that treat it like a normal hard hitting elite, frost presence, blow all your cooldowns, make sure all your 3 diseases are up and as mentioned earlier; use IF right from the bat and you probably will be able to use it again nearing the end of the fight, having one of the wonderful buff foods ready isn't a bad idea either.
Dressed in quest greens/blues, no dungeon gear to speak off.

This is easily doable as ANY spec DK without using ANY cooldowns / consumables.
Simply clear a path to Rattlebore, and then kite him back through the cave. He is extremely slow, but immune to Chains of Ice. Use Unholy Presence for the speed boost and lower cooldown on Icy Touch. Simply spam Icy Touch and Deathcoil. I killed him right outside of the cave.
Also, make sure to wait for a few Icy Touch's / Deathcoils before sending your pet in.

solo'd as a 77 paladin (better be soloable with this class/level). definitely the hardest solo fight for any of the 3 man quests.
i cleared the mobs that surrounded him so i didn't have to worry about adds.
Buffed with blessing of might (sheath of light = more spell power)
also seal of wisdom (definitely need the mana)
also judgement of light (slight heal back, but heals nonetheless)
fought like a regular mob except this mob hits plate with quest greens for about 1700 per hit. (i had devotion aura up, this boss attacks too slowly for retribution aura to be any good). I had to use holy light to heal myself every 2 or 3 hits from this boss.
when my mana went down to about 1000 left, i let my health drop down to about 2k, then i popped lay on hands (both glyphs on for more mana given back and also for double mana given back).
then i popped avenging wrath, 20% more damage and heals. this helped me stay alive. I began to run out of mana when the boss had about 4k health left, so i popped bubble and used my judgement (judgements of the wise) which gave me back 900 mana(25% of base). By then, my bubble still had about 7 seconds and the boss only had 2k health. Easy to drop at that point =P.
definitely hardest fight i've had so far.

She hits unusually hard on plate (~1k). Make sure to use the elixer given to nulify the acid spit, and be mindful of that lovely debuff she puts on you to lower your armor.
Managed to kill her as a level 78 holy paladin... just as she landed the klling blow on me.
Oh, and that elixer you're given lasts for 30 minutes.
EDIT: Once you're 80 with near raid or raid gear the fight gets much, much easier. If she gave you a lot of trouble way back I highly suggest going in to wipe the floor with her. Very satisfying.

Solo'd as a 76 Frost Mage.
I opened with cooldowns (Water Ele, Icy Veins) and took about 20k off his health before he got across the cave. Then I Ice Blocked to send him back to the Ele and began to kite him out of the cave after it died.
Had to keep up Ice Barrier to prevent the Spit from killing me and just used Ice Lance once I ran out of mana. When he gets to ~20k hp he moves slow enough that you can get 3/4 ticks of Evocate off and once my Ele was off cooldown again I killed him.
I should mention that I had to kite him to The Decrepit Flow (yes, below Dalaran) and killed him just as I reached the lake!
Took me 2 goes, so have fun if you can't find a group.

Has anyone attempted to solo this as a druid, hunter, or shaman and lost credit on the quest because your pet struck first?
Balance druid here, and on my first attempt I popped Trents and took on the mob fine but got no credit for the kill. Luckily this is a quick respawn, so on my second attempt I struck first,
then
popped Trents and got credit. Never noticed if the mob portrait was faded the first time, either.
There were no other players around to steal the kill. So keep in mind if you're a class with a combat pet ensure you strike first before the pet helps out! :)

Solo kill as a 75 DK, Blood Spec and quest-reward gear. Didn't kite, just straight-up beat him to a bloody pulp - Started with Vampiric Blood and full Runic Power + Ghoul. Cast DRW, apply 4 plagues, use Death Strike and Rune Tap to heal. Had to use Empower Rune Weapon at about 20% and a healing trinket. Overall, an easy fight - Just make sure you clear the cave before you go in and should be just fine.
BTW, also used the potion you get from a previous quest - The one that makes you immune to the worm spit DoT effect.

75 Destro lock can kill him via kiting, so long as necessary mobs are cleared out prior to starting.
Pulled with Immolate, Conflag, then curse of elements when you start running. Add and re-apply corruption as necessary, conflag at any given time, and re-apply immolate when it stops to spit at you or your pet. Kinda simple really, didn't need to use a soulstone/healthstone/quest potion.
Used the Felhunter, also. Imp always got too far away from me.
Just my 2 cents.

Soloable as a 75 resto shaman. It's a fairly easy fight. Make sure all mobs are cleared around the elite before attempting. Use the elixir you obtained from the previous quest. Drop the earth elemental, mana spring, searing, and simply use flame shock and lava burst until you hit 40%, then drop mana tide, and simply heal your elemental at this point while constantly refreshing water shield (you get just a hair of mana every time it is refreshed). Once the ele despawns summon your fire ele, keep water shield up and heal yourself. The worm should die fairly easily if you use this method.

TIPS
for
73+ Ret Paladins
with only questing greens
Here's what has worked for me after numerous attempts:
Start off by clearing out the adds to one of the sides
Buff yourself as much as possible (in my case I had 30crit/30stam food, 60ap elixir, and an armor scroll)
When you're ready with your buffs and at full mana, cast a
Holy Light on yourself immediately followed by drinking your best water to regain mana
-- do this until you get a crit HL heal. (the reason for this is that due to Sheath of Light, you'll have heals that tick for 1k for the first 7-8 seconds of the fight and that really counts for a lot)
When your heals are ticking and you're on full mana
ASAP pop your Avenging Wrath (you want to be able to bubble within 30secs) and any AP trinkets
and such and engage the fight.
Judge Light and do your normal rotation; instant heal with FoL whenever Art of War procs.
1st time your health gets low: use your
best health potion
2nd time your health gets low: pop Lay on Hands
3rd time your health gets low: pop Divine Shield (by now, if you werent really unlucky with crits, you should be at least 25-30 seconds into the fight anyway and DS should be usable)
Good luck!

Just soloed as a 76 Boomkin. Wiped once because I thought I could tank Rattlebore while I blew him up; don't make that mistake! He was hitting for 1.4k-1.6k easily, and Barkskin + HoTs + Health Pot + Lifeblood wasn't enough.
The key to this is kiting him. Rattlebore is actually quite slow, so you can stay ahead of him the entire fight without any speed increase enchants or buffs. Keep Moonfire and Insect Swarm up on him the entire time, and when he stops to cast Corrosive Spit, throw a Wrath at him to keep Earth and Moon up as much as possible; that extra 13% damage helps a lot. Remember to Abolish Poison if Corrosive Spit lands, and Rejuv or Lifebloom when you're feeling uncomfortably low. Beyond that, just keep running through the cavern, Typhoon any respawns that aggro on you (they also move fairly slow), and treants never hurt at all.
Best of luck.

Surprised no one that has tamed him has posted this yet: after he's tamed, he of course shrinks to normal pet size, but if you teach him thunderstomp, the animation for it is massive, like it would be if he did it at his normal pretamed size. The effective radius of it isn't changed, but the graphic of it is massive.
Just adds a little bit more flavor to an already interesting worm.

Make sure to Mark yourself, stack up your Lacerates, Pulverize, stack up Lacerates again, pop Berserk + offensive trinkets and spam Mangle whilst stopping Lacerate from falling off. When that runs out, pop Survival Instincts and shift out for a quick Rejuv + Regrowth. Continue standard damage rotation, pop Barkskin and shift for Rejuv/Regrowth again if necessary later, use Enrage + Frenzied Regen for yet another heal. Finished the fight at 7k without even needing all of my tricks, really.
The important parts are the standard (and efficient) bear DPS rotation and using damage redux CDs not to just tank a little better, but to let you survive swapping out for HoTs.

Soloable as a 72 Blood DK. It's a pretty straightforward fight, however, remember to clear all the mobs first before tackling Rattlebore. After reading all the comments here (and since I'd only just turned level 72), I came prepared for the fight! Just before the fight I buffed with
Poached Northern Sculpin
(+80 AP and +40 Stamina),
Guru's Elixir
(+20 to All Stats),
Scroll of Stamina VII
(+25 Stamina) and I was planning to drink
Indestructible Potion
(+3,500 Armor), but forgot. As it turned out, I didn't need it. After Rattlebore spit his corrosive saliva on me, I remembered to drink
Zort's Protective Elixir
. In Blood Presence, I started the fight with Icy Touch, then sic'd my ghoul on him, then dropped DnD and kept diseases on him throughout the whole fight while I spammed Blood Boil, Heart Srike, and Death Strike.
BTW, I didn't realize it at first, but all the worms in the cave are skinnable. Also, the cave had veins of Cobalt Ore for any miners out there.
Have fun!
I almost forgot to mention this, but all my
gear
was just green/blue gear from quests done in Borean Tundra and Dragonblight and two blacksmithing pieces
Cobalt Belt
and
Cobalt Legplates
,

Any other skinners find it messed up that a 74 elite has a 45% chance to drop some scraps instead of the actual leather? And when it does drop leather, your lucky if you get more then 1?
Blizzard, wtf are you thinking? Why does a 74 elite give the same item as a 70 trash mob?
Just kinda thinkin out loud there, but anyone have a clue to this one?
One other thing, i'm farming this place right now for 504 pieces of Borean leather to make an armor set, so far i've killed this thing 9 times, only 1 borean leather, 7 scraps, and one scale, ya'll 45% may not be accurate.
