If you’re looking to track your collections, Wowhead now has the
Battle Pet Collection Tracker
and
Mount Collection Tracker
! To use the tracker, simply import your character to view your collections.
You can read more about how to use this feature here!
Well it seems my little guide here has really been enjoyed, so I decided it's time to make it prettier. If at any time there is questions, or suggestions, by all means contact me. I try to check my guide regularly, and if I do not have the answers, I can try to point you in a direction to find them.
I will also at some point add in my collection of daily menagerie battles, and Erris/Kura as I can get them done. This run also works great for those going after
An Awfully Big Adventure
Many, MANY thanks to all the WoWhead community for their comments and input that have been named and properly credited where applicable. Each of you have been a delightful help in me putting this together and being able to help my own little WoW family. There are some minor tweaks to most of those strategies, and the only one I can claim my own on is Gargra.
Notice!: Recent pet battle changes have severely impacted my tanaan strategies. Will update with new finds as soon as I get a new system down for it. In the meantime, I'll be removing those battles from the guide since the strategies are not able to be used currently!
Updates:
Edit: Added in Tanaan battles.
Edit: Added in pets roster for tanaan battles. Will be adding in those battles next.
Edit: Resized images, hopefully they're more screensize friendly for those of you with smaller screens :) Please let me know if they need to be scaled down further.
Edit: Updated appearance and added in detailed information on where to get the pets. Added a variant for Tarr for those who have trouble getting the Droplet. Added in travel route, and where to get each pet. Added minor changes to Vesharr strategy.
Edit: Added an alternate strategy for Gargra.
Edit: Added notation for possible extra move with Taralune.
All pets are level 25 rare quality, except for leveling pets, of course.
This list is also for the easier to obtain pets. There are alot of really great strategies out there, but I found many of them did not do so well to include pets obtainable by the more casual players.
Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling
Chrominius
Nexus Whelpling
Ruby Droplet
Darkmoon Zepplin

I know there are alot of great routes out there to take. Alot of travel options, and maybe one day I'll get around to adding those in here as well. For now, this is the route I personally use. I also take all the world tamers first, then do the Tanaan legendary pets last. There is no specific route for that, just wherever I happen to be along the way while doing the dailies there as well. Also note, this was before I got
Draenor Pathfinder
.
Starting at Lunarfall, take flightmaster to Exile's Rise. Ride southeast to Ashlei.
Return to Exile's Rise, take flightmaster to Veil Terokk. Vesharr is immediately south of flightmaster.
Take flightmaster to Retribution Point. Ride east around the path to Taralune.
Return to Retribution point, take flight to Rilzit's Holdfast. Ride north to Tarr.
Return to Rilzit's Holdfast, take flight to Iron Siegworks. Ride west through the cave in and head south west to Gargra.
Ride back towards the flightmaster, but you won't need to go that far. At about 72,58 up on that little ledge, pop
Aviana's Feather
and weave your way carefully through the rocks to the east. Done right, you can land right in Cymre's gazebo.
Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling
- Breath, Bombing Run, Decoy
2 leveling pets
Breath on Pixiebell until dead
Bombing Run on Doodle, then Decoy. Doodle will take a nap and swap out for Tally.
Breath, Bombing Run on CD.
When Doodle comes back out, swap to 1st leveling pet, no skill needed to use, immediately swap to 2nd leveling pet, then back to dragonling and just Breath until dead.

Chrominius
- Arcane Explosion, Ancient Blessing, Surge of Power
Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling
- Breath, Thunderbolt, Decoy
Leveling pet
Start with Chrominius against The Great Kaliri, and spam Arcane Explosion. I like to use Ancient Blessing]Ancient Blessing around half HP, and continue spamming Arcane Explosion until Kaliri dies. Use Ancient Blessing again if necessary, I like to give it a second pop to make sure he survives long enough to Surge on Apexis.
When Apexis Guardian comes out, cast Surge of Power. The recovery phase will eat the Entangling Roots and kill Chrominius.
Swap in leveling pet, then immediately switch to Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling. Save Decoy for when Apexis uses Entangling Roots again, he usually does. Breath down Apexis until his revive trigger, then Thunderbolt. Usually this will take out both him and Darkwing, or just leave Darkwing until one Breath will take him out.

Chrominius
- Arcane Explosion, Ancient Blessing, Surge of Power
Nexus Whelpling
- Tail Sweep, Mana Surge, Arcane Storm
Leveling pet
Start with Chrominius. Arcane Explosion, Arcane Explosion, Ancient Blessing, Arcane Explosion, Arcane Explosion, Pass
(Very important to pass here! Any damage to break cocoon will not let you heal next round)
, Ancient Blessing, this -should- leave that first moth low enough health for Surge of Power to one shot it. Chrominius dies.
*If Chrominius has 800 hp remaining before Surge of Power, you can squeeze in one more Arcane Explosion. But ONLY if there is 800 hp remaining. If you have lower rate of damage this can make a difference with Nexus Whelpling.
Swap to Leveling pet, then immediately swap in Nexus Whelpling. Arcane Storm, then Mana Surge. This should kill the last two moths. Sometimes Whelpling will get put to sleep first round, that's ok. Just pass and keep going as instructed. Occasionally too, you need one last Tail Sweep to finish off that last moth, but it's rare.

Ruby Droplet
- Absorb, Bubble, Drain Blood
Darkmoon Zepplin
(Not really required, any other with decoy works)- Decoy
Unborn Val'kyr
(Variant)- Shadow Shock, Curse of Doom, Unholy Ascencion
Rapana Whelk
(Variant)- Acidic Goo, Absorb, Dive
Leveling Pet
Start with Zepplin. Drop a Decoy, swap to leveling pet, immediately swap to Ruby Droplet.
Ruby Droplet can pretty much solo the fight. It's a little slow, but it works. Keep all abilities on CD, only thing to watch out for really is the shield. If the gladiators have the shield up, don't waste a Drain Blood cooldown on it. Just use Absorb to knock their shield off. If you're about to take a charged breath or lift off and are low on health, just swap back to the Zepplin and drop another Decoy to give a little breathing room for getting Ruby's health up again.
Alternate
Start with your Unborn Val'kyr- Curse of Doom, then spam Shadow Shock. Curse of Doom as long as the enemy doesn't have blocks or shields up. Spam Shadow Shock till death turn, then use Unholy Ascencion (again ensuring no shields, but not vital, as you will kill all 3 with or without ascension, just makes it a bit quicker with)
Bring out levelling pet, immediately switch to Rapana Whelk. Dive when he flies up, Acidic Goo, Absorb and Dive till its dead.
You might need to land the last hit with your leveling pet, but it should be nothing at all, only if you get very unlucky too.

Now for Gargara, the fight is really simple. You don't need the pets I'm listing here, this is just the ones I have used that have been successful. Any two strong mechanical pets will do the trick easily. But for this I will list two strategies that I have used.
Lil' XT
- Zap, Heartbroken, Tympanic Tantrum
Menagerie Custodian
- Zap, Shock and Awe, Ion Cannon
Darkmoon Zeppelin
(Variant) - Missile, Bombing Run, Decoy
Leveling Pet
Open with Lil' XT. Heartbroken, then Tympanic Tantrum. If he survives after the tantrum, Zap until XT dies. Most times you can get through the first two wolves in this way. Sometimes not, either way you can continue as below.
Switch to leveling pet- IF you made it to third wolf, you can usually finish off the battle with the leveling pet. If not, just switch to Custodian and continue as follows: Zap down first wolf.
Now, for second wolf you don't want him to swap out. So Zap first, then use Shock and Awe. That should finish him off and push the third pet out, which should be low enough health that Ion Cannon will one shot it so you don't have to worry about recovery phase death.
Alternate
Start with Zeppelin. Drop Bombing Run, Decoy, then spam Missile as far as you can go.
Swap to leveling pet, then immediately switch out to Custodian. Burn cds, except for Ion Cannon. You want to save that as a last resort because of the recovery phase on it.
Credit goes to the many comments referencing strong mechanical pets.
Anubisath Idol
- Crush, Sandstorm, Deflection.
Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling
- Breath, Thunderbolt, Decoy
Leveling Pet
Start with your Anubisath Idol and Deflection Rot (and keep on deflecting it whenever it comes off CD). Keep Sandstormup and keep on crushing the idol until it dies. It doesn't really matter if it uses dark rebirth, you will not take any damage from this guy. IMPORTANT: If Idol's health is low (under 300 hp) when Deflection comes off CD, wait. He will cast Rebirth instead of Rot so just cast another Crush and save the Deflection for a round.
Lantern comes up. If you can, change the weather with your Idol's Sandstorm. Either way switch in your Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling and bash Lantern with Breath until it dies.
Gyrexle comes up. Thunderbolt first, then drop a Decoy. Switch to leveling pet, switch immediately back to dragonling. Keep Thunderbolt and Decoy on CD, and Breath until dead. If he kills Dragonling, just switch back to Anubisath to finish him off. Deflection when he's about to launch rocket on you, keep Sandstorm up. It's rare to have to go back to Anubisath though, but crits can suck sometimes.

Is there an alternate for Tarr? Ruby Droplet I can't find on any of the AH's and I think it requires the Legendary cloak to get to the spawn that drops Ruby/

Great collection of strats. Could you share your travel methods, though? Are you just running to flight paths, or do you use Aviana's Feather 2-3 times, or what?

Love the layout - having the directions on a different series of tabs from the actual Pet Tamers is very convenient.
Looking at the pet list, I would really like an alternative to Lil'XT. I refuse to purchase pets from the Pet Store, so that's a stretch for me!
Also, any chance you can resize the photos in the Tamer tab? That's some really scrunched text on a 1400x900 display!
