Beauty is the fourth boss in Blackrock Caverns. Before you start the fight you will need to kill at least three of the four core hound pups. They will do a flame breath and will drop lava drool pools. They are pretty easy and should go down quickly. The boss is also pretty easy. She will do a flame breath in front of her. She will randomly charge at someone, knocking them back. She does a AoE fear, and in my opinion her most dangerous ability is magma spit which deals damage over time to a random party member and when its done it will shoot out four balls of fire diagonal from where the person is. Doing damage to anyone standing in them. Pretty straight forward fight, just make sure to tank the boss facing away from the party.

Killing her smaller baby "Runty", activates her Berserk mode, which is the same as most raid bosses wipe mechanic (+500% damage, +150% movement speed and taunt immunity).

Resetting the encounter does not clear it.

It is not necessarily that killing Runty himself affects the enrage; rather, killing all 4 puppies before the boss dies will activate her enrage. Leave up one of them during the fight (which happened, for my group, to be Runty since he was furthest away of all the 4 puppies).

Our dk dps in extremely good WOTLK dps gear was not able to offtank Runty. I recommend killing all three of the forward pups and leaving Runty alive. The tank must tank both Runty and Beauty.

Given that you follow this strat, and stay out of the drool pools (get out of the fire!), the only real danger is the aoe fear. A shaman with tremor or a priest's fear ward (or various anti-fear racial abilities) can counter it. However, these are not truly necessary; as long as the tank is topped off before the fear hits, he will survive it.

We killed the last puppy about halfway into the fight, and Beauty enraged. NONE of the puppies will respawn after you kill them, making her effectively unkillable for the remainder of the instance. Don't make the same mistake we did :)

Beauty will not charge if everyone stays within 7 yards of her hitbox (she may still charge if you outrange her during the fear, of course). However, don't endeavor to stack up or you'll all be hit with drool. Try to spread out evenly around her.

We just pulled Beauty without aggroing Runty at all. Nice and easy fight oO

First run, we killed all four pups. I was tank and ran in to engage Beauty. About 6 yards out I was hit for 35k, and about 3 yards out I was hit for another 35k, and that's where my corpse ended up.

Lesson learnt.

NORMAL MODE:

Kill the pups individually. Tag them and run out of the room. Kill them. Don't stand in fire pools they leave.

After that, boss is a simple tank and spank. She will knock back the tank occasionally, so don't stand with your back to lava.

She will occasionally fear the group for three seconds - if the pups are dead this causes absolutely zero problems.

DPS her down.

It appears there is no way to rid Beauty of the enrage timer once you kill Runty. If you kill Runty, you're best off skipping Beauty as Beauty will kill even the most geared tanks in seconds. You don't need to kill Beauty to get the Blackrock Cavern achievement.

Kill only 3 puppies. Killing a 4th one will make her unkillable. I know this has been said many times, but I am tired of stupid DPS saying, "But I only did this on heroic in the beta, we should be fine."

Even when I tell them to stop, they still kill RUNTY.

You can't see Runty, out of sight, out of mind.

Tactics for Heroic:

Unlike Normal the Puppies also aggro the boss, hence you will fight all four at once. They will all deal a massive amount of damage when combined.
Although the adds Can be CC:ed by any means, that means Poly, stuns, traps and whatnot.
CC two, kill one, then till boss.
Don't forget Fear Ward or Tremor Totem. Move away from puddles of fire!

it is specific to runty...if you kill runty beauty goes into berserkmode and hits for over 40k every half second or so...we killed only runty and she still enraged and wiped our party in 17 seconds

HEROIC MODE
I tried to make these one-line-copy-pasteable so you can use them ingame :)

Beauty
CC as many of the 3 pups as you can for the whole fight, kill the ones you can't, then kill Beauty. Ignore Runty (small pup behind Beauty), he doesn't hurt and if you kill him Beauty enrages. Tremor totem/fear ward is helpful.

Heroic Mode Tips:
CC The pups

We had a rogue sap one (glyphed), Shaman hex one, and Warlock fear one (glyphed) until we killed Beauty. Then the pups despawn, gg =)

You can chain cc all 3 of the pups. We did it with a freeze trap, polymorph and a hex. All we had to do was kill the boss.

The strategy my group used to do this on heroic worked way better than the other ones we tried. We CC'd all three of the pups with hibernate, root and hex and pulled Beauty back a little back so ew could just dps her down without worrying about the pups. Made it prety much tank and spank.

Did it just now on heroic, we had no real CC to rely on. Group setup:

-Death Knight (Tank)
-Priest (Heals - Discipline)
-Priest (DPS - Shadow)
-Paladin (DPS)
-Death Knight (DPS - Frost)

Positioning:

Healer and ranged dps (me) in the middle of the area.
Tank runs in and takes all to the left.
We basically circle clockwise with everything while following target marking, as follows
We speed past Runty's location to avoid having a melee knocked back and pull him.

Target Marking:
Spot first, Buster second, Lucky third, Beauty Last (skull, cross, triangle, diamond if curious)

Basic Fight Summary:
We dropped an (unglyphed) psychic scream from the healer followed by my own glyphed one to disable one (turned out to be lucky) while we nuked Spot down, then shifted gears to survivability and ploughed through the mobs one by one.

We didn't have 3 CC's (1 of them was a rogue, and sap wears off after a minute), so we burned the first add (while 2 others were CC'd), then burned the boss. Fairly easy the CC'd ads despawn after you kill the boss.

Just did this with only a mage to CC. Basically if you have no real CC, chances are you have plate DPS. If thats the case the way to do this is to have two tanks,one on the pups one on Beauty tanking her faced away from the party in a corner at the entrance of the cave so when youre feared, you do not go far and have little chance to aggro the runt. DPS should be on the pups, after they are done just tanknspank Beauty.

Heroic Strategy:

This is a fight that is easy, but requires gear. It is just hard to heal and hard to tank if you do not have 3 awesome CC classes. If you don't have a geared or well-designed group, there is a strat to beat this boss. Two healing.

Our group make-up was:

Prot Paladin
Resto Druid
Holy Priest
DPS Death Knight
Mage

*pups refer to the little dogs.

Our tank has pretty garbage gear so he couldn't tank more than one mob. We CC'd (Root and Sheep) the two pups on the side and had the DPS Death Knight tank the remaining pup while kiting it to avoid lava pools. The paladin tanked Beauty toward the back and it was still pretty hard with two healers. The mage and the DK burnt down their pup. Then they went for the rooted pup and killed it. While killing it, we accidentally pulled Runty. I had to root Runty. Then the DK and Mage killed the sheeped pup, and finally we killed Beauty. It took a while, and mana was tight because of gear. However, there was simply no other way because one healer could not keep up.

So for this and for future bosses, keep a Two-Healing Strategy in mind!

Make sure you keep the tank topped off during heroic mode when the adds are still on him, as bad RNG with avoidance can cause a pretty quick death during the fear.

Beauty's berserk happens when you kill Runty.

This Easter egg mechanic was implemented 2 days after Cataclysm was released. (The first 2 days of killing Runty didn't cause her to enrage)

It is possible to do this fight outside of her room, the boss will stay aggro'd. Gives a lot more room and space, making the fight easier.

Doing this last night, was trying to cc two and burn one baby then the boss. kept losing tank due to lava puddles + fear.

Can anyone confirm if the lava would break CC on the pups? It seemed to be doing that last night? Very frustrating.

Just have 1 person kite the 3 pups back up the hallway to Corla's room and jump off the 2nd floor to loop back to Beauty's room. Any DK, mage, druid, or hunter can do this for your group. A well played rogue and warlock are also capable of kiting them successfully.

HEROIC

Fear is the biggest problem in my experience, especially for the healer. Even with two pups CC'd the tank takes much more damage than being hit by Beauty alone. Before the pups drop, five seconds feared is hard to make back up in healing. Beauty is not difficult... if you can outlive the pups.

only got me part-way through dropping the pups. Second try I brought my letting me stay on top of heals. helps a lot too, even if it's not instant.

(only 55 HP to buy an or Horde equivalent)

After patch 4.06 tremor totem won't be as useful... since they are changing it to 6 seconds and a cooldown...... though it can be placed while being feared... though this fight won't be so hard after that patch either since they are removing one of the core hound pups.

Oh side note: i finally got a group that was able to down beauty. it took a couple of tries but we finally got it.

Something to add to this as well. Rogue w/ Glyph can Sap one of the Corehounds. Tanking the boss outside of her room makes the fight much easier.

Word of advice NEVER kill Runty in the fight unless you have a group of heavily geared people and a heal that doesnt OOM quickly

As a Level 85 DK tank with a 85 Holy Pally. was able to get him down to 7k HP b4 we both died, he hits for about 30-50 on average to an 85 Tank straight of the bat. Enraged btw...

My group struggled on this boss. We tried several times leaving the dogs up, just kill every dog except runty in the back, made our lives much easier without the aoe extra damage.

Just beat this boss solo with a 375 ilevel Draenei Blood DK on Normal. Yea, not an amazing achievement, but still noteworthy. Yanked the puppies first, just stood in the lava (approx 1.5k damage per tick wasn't worth leaving melee range for) and beat them down. Didn't kill Runty (yet), and then fought Beauty. Used racial heal as my only heal outside of Death Strike, and didn't have much issue.

But the reason I'm posting is because of a mechanic on Runty.

Being that I was soloing him, the overall dps for the battles was slow, and as such, I discovered that beating runty after the fact actually required some tact. Once his health drops below around 50k, he runs from battle. If he is allowed to get to his spawn point, he evades for a couple seconds, and he un-aggros and fully heals.

I started battling him on his spawn point, so I was beating, and then he'd evade, and reset, so I'd continue to beat, and it would happen again. Finally, I kited him to the entrance of Beauty's lair, and when he ran away at the 50k point, I death gripped, death striked, and then death coiled him as he was fleeing. This killed him.

I think with the continuous barrage of damage from 5 people at once, this mechanic was probably overlooked. Just thought I'd mention it.

PS - I would LOVE to do an Enraged Beauty battle now that we have near ilevel 400 gear... It would be an interesting challenge to see if gear approximately double the previous gear could handle damage 5x the previous damage. If it is currently doable now, I'm sure it's only in Normal.
