Changes in Patch 7.1.5
Hati's movement speed has been increased by 14%. This should somewhat aid in keeping Hati up to speed with your main pet, but Hati will still fall behind in some situations (such as if your pet is using
have been added back to Beast Mastery. Tar Trap behaves the same as the Ice Trap you remember from Warlords of Draenor, but with updated visuals.
have been buffed by 9%. Note that this does not necessarily equate to a 9% increase over 7.1 damage -- this mostly compensates for the significant nerfs to crit chance and
now deals 100% weapon damage (up from 66%).
has had its cooldown reduced to 12 seconds (down from 15). This talent is now competitive numerically, but it still has mechanical problems which makes it hard to recommend (see talent section of guide).
Level 15 Talents:
now increases critical strike chance by 60% (up from 50%),
now increases Cobra Shot damage by 10% per pet (up from 8%). These buffs make these talents more competitive with
damage has been buffed by about 60%, but it still lags a little behind
in single target DPS.
now increases pet basic attack damage by 100% (up from 50%). This is the most significant talent buff of the patch. It is now competitive with
in most situations, especially for Mythic+ dungeons.
now increases the chance of a Wild Call proc by 30% (up from 15%). Still not a great choice because of the randomness involved, but it could find use with the new legendary shoulders.
damage has been increased by 50%. This talent was already a fairly good choice for Mythic+ dungeons, and this makes it even better for that purpose.
no longer deals extra damage to the primary target, but its AoE damage has been buffed instead. This talent has had trouble fitting well into the Beast Mastery kit throughout Legion, and this doesn't really change that.
Ferocity pet bonus now adds a 270% AP bleed to Kill Command (up from 135%). Tenacity pet bonus now reduces pet damage taken by 30% (up from 15%). This talent is still behind
in single target DPS, but it's a lot closer than it was before.
damage has been increased by 15%. This buff should make the talent desirable in more situations, and will be less of a single target DPS loss over
Legendary Item Changes
: New Beast Mastery legendary which adds a second charge to Dire Beast. This allows you to fully take advantage of all
procs and also lets you build up 2 charges to use with
if desired. Overall, it significantly improves the feel of the Beast Mastery rotation.
: New ranged DPS trinket that has a ton of stats and an on-use ability that deals AoE damage at your target. The main power here is the raw stats, but the on-use ability is very strong with multiple targets.
: Focus cost reduction during Bestial Wrath has been reduced from 20% to 15%. The main benefit of this item in single target is being able to fit a minimum of 6
s inside each
). Without the belt, it's only really possible to fit 5 of them in that window (without Blood Lust or Aspect of the Wild). With this nerf, it is still possible to fit in 6 Kill Commands, but you absolutely must go into Bestial Wrath with full Focus. If you can't manage 6 Kill Commands, you are not fully benefiting from this item, so try to practice on a target dummy until you figure out a Bestial Wrath rotation where you can fit in 6 Kill Commands (without using Aspect of the Wild). The
talent and having at least 15% Haste helps a lot with this. Outside of single target, the belt also lets you cast more Multi-Shots during Bestial Wrath.
: Cooldown reduction on Aspects has been reduced from 50% to 35%. Unfortunately, Beast Mastery suffered some friendly fire when this item was nerfed because of how strong it is for Survival spec. It's still a nice item for its utility, but it has lost some of its DPS potential.
: Pet bonus damage reduced from 10% to 5%. Not much to say here, it's a significant damage nerf. It's still a nice item to have, but no longer one of the top.
: Now heals for 3% health every 1 sec (up from 4% every 3 sec). The health per second is more than doubled, which makes the healing on this pretty strong if you can force yourself to stand still.
: The Haste proc has been increased from 15% to 25% and you can now proc it from interrupts as well as crowd control. This legendary is actually quite strong now when properly utilized.
: The damage absorb shield has been increased from 15% to 25% of your maximum health, and it now applies automatically every 30 seconds (even if you're taking damage). The stats have also been adjusted, it now gives equal amounts of Crit, Mastery and Haste.
Tier 19 Set Bonuses
: This bonus has been increased from 3 sec to 8 sec additional cooldown reduction. This means every time you use
, you will reduce the cooldown of
by a whopping 23 seconds. To put it in perspective, during a 5-minute boss fight you would get approximately 3 more
s to play with (on average). This doesn't really change your rotation or priorities as Dire Beast was already one of the highest priority abilities.
: The current wording on this one can be a little confusing, but this is what it should say:
"Increases all Dire Beast damage by 50% during Bestial Wrath."
This applies to existing and newly summoned beasts, and it applies to not only their melee attacks but also their
damage. Note that this bonus does not currently work with
since it replaces Dire Beast, so it's not recommended to use that talent with this bonus.
Note: These bonuses have switched places on the PTR, which makes sense since the additional cooldown reduction is definitely the most powerful bonus.
What makes Beast Mastery special
Beast Mastery is the only ranged specialization that can do 100% of its damage while moving. Despite being ranged, most of their damage comes from their pets, which have to be in melee range of the target. The majority of this pet damage is controlled by the Hunter rather than happening automatically. Beast Mastery Hunters are the only specialization that can tame Exotic beasts. In total, there are over
50 different pet families
that can be tamed, each with dozens of different looks. In Legion, Hunters have two permanent pets because of the Hati bonus from
Beast Mastery excels in small group content such as Mythic+ dungeons because of their strong AoE damage, and the fact that they can bring valuable tools such as
(Blood Lust) or
(Battle Resurrection) which might otherwise be missing from a small group. They are also viable candidates for raiding with the right talents.
All races, including Gnomes, can play Hunters.
Hunters can use bows, crossbows, and guns.
Iconic Beast Mastery Hunter abilities:
: Increases the damage done by your pets by 18%.
