Its a pretty random achievement. I have 53/100 victories without getting it. One of the hardest achievement in bg's for a single battle
EDIT: 1,5 year later I finally got the achievement and the battlemaster title ! It required a premade group.

Got this one a week or so ago. Here's how it went: We were outnumbered at the start (which is common if you're Horde since we're outnumbered by allies 2-1 on most servers; hence more allies in each battlegroup to queue up and play) and fell behind while the ratio was about 13-15 for about the first five minutes of the game. We fell behind 540 points.
Eventually the group filled up and I believe we got lucky with some of less skillful players dropping out or leaving for another battleground. Because almost out of nowhere, we started completely turning the tables on them. We ended up winning by about 2000-1880. I was hoping we'd get the "We had it all along" achievement, too, but we did a little too well at the end, holding 4-1 for a considerable amount of time.
I spent more than half the game holding LM with a well-geared ret pally and a blood DK. I'm a rogue specced mut/prep so that was a pretty lethal combination. Pretty much squashed all comers even when outnumbered 5-3 or so.
So for me it was pure luck. Fell behind. Scrubs left the battleground. Good players joined in and turned it around.

It's pretty easy to do on purpose. The only thing you need is a Premade. Basically, capture stables. Rogues do best for this for Burst and ninja'ing flags. After you're 500 points behind, just rip them apart and cap everything and play normally again.
101 - Let them win for a minute. Then pwn.

268 AB's played with 158 of them won battles and still haven't came close to this. It is my last achieve to get BM. Anyone have any ideas how to keep people from afking when we start off losing? I would do a premade but my server sucks and I probally would have better luck with a pug.

I don't understand how this works can someone clarify this a bit more? Like do you need to 5 cap or something? I remember my team starting at 10 and the opposing team had 800 and we ended up 4 capping winning and no achievement. Like do you need to 5 cap?

Could somebody do a number crunch for me? With a 500 resource disadvantage, can you still win by controlling 3 bases, or do you need 4? What's the highest the opposing team can have their score at and still get this achievement with 3 or 4 bases?

Your post is a good start, Pigmonkey, and not too bad for a general idea, but you are missing some key details:
1. You are assuming that all nodes cap and start earning points at same time.
2. You are forgetting that while a node is in conflict no one earns points. You could, in theory, get behind 0-500, and win the game by only controlling ONE node (by keeping the dirty, stinking alliance from controlling any of the other four). Very unlikely, but the point is you can win even from a large deficit with 3 or fewer, if you can keep the other nodes in conflict (often enough that the ally bastards aren't earning much from them).
3. Most importantly, you are forgetting that the points earned for nodes is NOT LINEAR. I don't remember the exact formulas, but you earn points
more
than 4x faster with 4 nodes than with 1 node. At 5 nodes, you win the game in very short order.
As for you people wondering how to get this done now that games end at 1600,
read Heckle's first post above
(a full BS zerg from the start makes this achievement doable). My own comments on that strat, having done it succesfully with a 5-man "premade":
it's best not to even cap BS from the start (easier to come back from 0-500, than from say 150-650).
Cap BS and go after other nodes when score is about 0-350 -- if your timing is right and you can take nodes quick, you will start turning the tide JUST as the score is 0-500 or perhaps 30-550. This gives you more breathing room if you're unable to dominate your way back to a 4-cap or 5-cap and hold it.
A full premade is best, but you can do it with partial premade and a bit of begging in chat. The few dissenters (who annoyingly cap Farm every goddamn time) typically get stomped....
P.S. Of course it doesn't work *every* time - I still need the achievement on my main.... : (

I've had this happen a fair few times in pugs, with several people leaving once they see we're losing. Then the replacements + rest kicks ass. Go figure.

The exact formula is:
for 1 node controled: 10 resources per 12 seconds
for 2 nodes controled: 10 resources per 9 seconds
for 3 nodes controled: 10 resources per 6 seconds
for 4 nodes controled: 10 resources per 3 seconds
for 5 nodes controled: 30 resources per 1 second
I'm afraid I don't know the time it takes for a base to go from "in-conflict" to under your side's control.
The 60 seconds it requires for a node to go from in-conflict to under your control was ignored for simplicity's sake, and instead I assume that all bases are "in conflict" and not producing resources for anybody during this time (as if all 5 nodes were assaulted at once and then captured/rescued by the appropriate teams 60 seconds later).
Based on this, I decided to fudge a few charts, and, assuming you hit your number of nodes controlled, and they hit theirs at the exact time that each side has the specified resources, this is the result:
I don't remember enough from math class to do the whole thing in once nice set of formulas, so I had to make a series of charts and keep modifying the starting scores until I found the values needed, so I'm afraid I have no nice math to post for wowhead to see.
Side A has 600 resources and 2 nodes;
Side B has 100 resources and 3 nodes;
Both sides will reach 1600 resources simultaneously
(I doubt this can actually happen as the timing required on both sides would have to be perfect).
Side A has 1430 resources and 1 node;
Side B has 930 resources and 4 nodes;
Side B will win with 1600 resources while Side A is at 1590 resources
So, roughly speaking: at the point where the resource discrepancy reaches 500,
if the other side has 600 resources or less, you can win controlling 3 bases.
if the other side has 610-1430 resources, you can win controlling 4 bases.
if the other side has 1440 resources or more, you can win controlling 5 bases.
Of course this is a perfect scenario in which you take control of the nodes at the exact moment you need to, and nobody deprives you of a node for even a second. It also disregards the chance of attacking the enemy node without capturing it, which would still put a dent in their resource counter. I wouldn't bet on being able to get the achievement while controlling 3 bases due to all the variables involved and the small window of scores at which it would work. What really matters is knowing when you can still win with 4 bases and when you have to 5 cap.
Looks like pigmonkey's formula worked out pretty well after all.

if the other side has 600 resources or less, you can win controlling 3 bases.
This doesn't seem accurate. Here's why:
Once the opposing team has reached 273 points, you would want to cap your flag. It will take 8 seconds to cap and 60 seconds to control it. Thus, 68 seconds later, the opposing team will have earned 227 points, putting them just at 500 when you gain control of your first flag.
You would also want to begin capping their flags 8 seconds before they hit 500. You can round this one second down to 6 seconds beforehand to make the scoring exact, which means you'll want to start capping flags at 480 points.
Once they hit 500 points, you will control 1 flag and, let's say, 3 other flags will be in dispute (since a 5 cap is obviously a win if it's defended). In that one minute, you will gain 50 points. The opposing team will also gain 50 points. The score will be 550 to 50.
1600 - 550 = 1050 points needed to win. With 1 flag, this is 1260 seconds, or 21 minutes.
1600 - 50 = 1550 points needed to win. With 4 flags, this is 465 seconds, or 7.75 minutes.
It's clear then that if the 'achievement' is started at 500 - 0, a 4-cap will easily win the game, assuming perfect defense.
With a 3 cap, the opposing team will earn from 2 flags in the minute of capping time, giving them 66 points.
1600 - 566 = 1034 points needed to win. With 2 flags, this is 931 seconds, or 15.52 minutes.
1600 - 50 = 1550 points needed to win. With 3 flags, this is 930 seconds, or 15.5 minutes.
Your scenario is as follows:
1600 - 600 = 1000 points needed to win. With 2 flags, this is 900 seconds, or 15 minutes.
1600 - 100 = 1500 points needed to win. With 3 flags, this is also 900 seconds, or 15 minutes.
The problem is that a 600 - 100 scenario won't happen. As I've shown above, in the best possible scenario (outside of capping an additional flag and having them defend it, thus buying you a few seconds or whatever), the score won't be 600 to 100, but rather 566 to 50. That's because in the time it takes for you to get to 50 points, they've gained 66 points. Your scenario has both sides gaining 100 points in the same time frame, which wouldn't happen, because in a 3 vs 2 scenario, one flag is controlled by the team trying to get the achievement (from which they earn points during the minute of capping time on the other two flags). And the opposing team earns points from
two
flags during this same minute. Thus the score ends up 566 to 50. In other words, it should be corrected to say:
If the other side has no more than 566 resources, and your team has at least 50 resources, and all flags are in control (not in conflict), by respective sides, and no flags enter into conflict at any time, you will win by one second by controlling 3 flags and the opposing team controlling 2 flags.

I just don't understand Blizzard sometimes. Multi- Billion dollar company with perhaps the best game franchises in history.
They made this achievement initially expecting you to overcome a 1/4 down deficit. 2000 points, overcome 500, 500 is 1/4 of 2000.
They lower the total score to 1600 to "speed up BG's".
Once again. Initial philosophy. Overcome a 1/4 deficit. That logic should still hold regardless of the total points.
1/4 of 1600 is 400
Would it kill them to lower this to 400?

Just a guess, but sometimes in a lowbie bracket there is not enough players on the opposing faction side. i.e the game may be 6 vs 15. the team with 15 members could wait for the other team to 4 cap and then it would be so much easier since the odds are in your favor. I'm not even sure how many players need to be in the game though before it ends. So this may not be viable.

Just got this in a full premade.
Everyone went to LM but didnt cap it.
Waited till Horde had 400 with 4 flags.
Then grabbed LM and slow falled to BS.
Then split people to farm/ST then eventually GM.
Ended it with a 5 cap, they didnt get past 620.

Just got this today. Incredibly epic turnaround. I queued up with 3 other guildies. We popped into the match already in progress, with the Alliance having a 4-1 cap lead over us (Horde). I swear, the 4 of us, (on vent too), made a beeline for Alliance-held mine. Me (disc priest) held a few off long enough for my guildie to cap mine, while the other two headed to stables. Just kind of went where we needed from there.
I swear, we literally changed the outcome (or at least helped).
We won with a 5-cap!
EDIT: In other words, it's not necessary to be in a full premade to get this. A good 5-man team with coordination (and a lot of luck!) can pull this off!

With the addition of cross realm raid groups this just became a WHOLE lot easier to find a premade for, just go check out the WoW forums or make a post there to find a group for it. Make sure you have vent and AV Enabler and you are ready to rock this achievement in no time.

this achievement was much easier to get with the old battlegrouns system when they always started with one faction full 15 and the other with just 2 or 3 players. you get in disadvantage then when the group was fulled u can easily win. nowadays is almost impossible to do if not intended with a premade

My theory is that the easiest way to do this is that you run to 3 bases but don't cap - just prevent opps from capping
The opposite faction will then control the 2 other bases and will gain:
"for 2 nodes controlled: 10 resources per 9 seconds"
so after 450 sec they will have the lead of 500.
As it takes 1 minute (= 6 ticks) to cap a flag you can start capping when opps are at 440.
Then you cap you three nodes
"for 3 nodes controlled: 10 resources per 6 seconds"
so after 160 * 6 sec = 960 = 16 mins you have 1600 and opps will have 1570
Off course it would be better to cap 4 or at least disrupt some of the flags for the opposite team.

This achievement takes hipster to a such whole new level that it prevents even multiboxers from getting it.
You can multibox 5 characters on opposing team and easily get

This achieve on the other hand.. good luck convincing your PUG to

give up 1/3 of score to enemy team! Unthinkable, right? That's why 99% of the time instead of even trying for this achieve your PUG just caps the enemy team 4-1 and then complains how it was too easy and how they waited an hour for a 5 minute game. I have tried it so many times I gave up. They would rather have another meaningless freewin in their pocket than one of the rarest battleground achieves.

Did it yesterday night on 3rd try. I assembled a 5 man group (since you can't queue with more than 5) which consisted of me (full epic retri paladin) and 4 more full epic friends.(2 more retri paladins, a dk and a feral).
The first two times we failed because no one listened. As soon as we got to play with people who listened we got it. The plan was we went LM and stayed there until we were losing by 500 then we slow fall to BS, cap it, and then split to GM and ST. We had to have 4 bases for 3-4 min until we met them at 1100-1100. Then we let one base down because we were going to win with only three.
And we did it.

Got it tonight (2nd attempt) about an hour after I completed <Khan> Your biggest challenge will be getting 10 other people to cooperate with your group. We all stacked at BS and allowed the horde team to cap the other 4 bases, not surprisingly we had a couple of people on our team doing their own thing and capping flags so the rest of us would just move as a group and go where they capped, always leaving 4 bases to the horde and 1 to us. After they got 500 ahead we spread out and basically ended up 5 capping them. Thank god Horde are so terrible in BG's...

Update: Some dwarf decides to Cap ST for his orphan achievement. We managed to get there in the end, against russians of all people! 5 base cap, and meta achievement :) Submitted screenshot

This achievement is currently bugged in Rated Battlegrounds. Legion 7.1, As Alliance we were queued as Horde in Arathi Basin and after dismantling the other team our group was awarded the

This can now be achieved in the Arathi Basin Brawl, Comp Stomp. We queued as a full 15-man premade. We started by sitting Stables but didn't cap the flag immediately. The horde NPCs got a 4-cap. We let the horde go up 400-0 then capped stables . Once the horde was up by 500 we started running everything else over. We held 4-cap most of the 2nd phase of the game. We 5-capped right near the end but we were already up by a large margin at that point.

Got this in a comp stop on 3/6/2024, so its still possible against ai despite what some may say. Ironically the hardest parts were the ai being *too* dumb to cap stables, and team members being rude.
I failed to round up any players for a premade so i just made a macro asking the PuG to stay at stables until the other side was ahead. Had to deal with some rude players telling me to shut up and get lost in a few games but eventually i lucked out and ended up in a team where 14/15 players decided to help out. a lot of people are missing this achive and eager to get it. Unfortunately a single geared player can still hold their own against the ai well enough that one guy can still be a threat to the plan, but in the end we still managed to band together and hit the requirement at about 700 vrs 1200 and then just zerged everything at once. Even that close to a loss it was an easy recovery and still very doable, so dont give up hope if things get a little lopsided.
everyone was really stoked to get their achive and honestly it was really nice to see that kind of teamwork again.
