Feedback, suggestions and/or questions
are more than welcome.
We read every mail we receive!
Wowhead
was created with one sole intent: providing
World of Warcraft
players with tools to make their gameplay more enjoyable. This website is our contribution to this wonderful game.
Our user community is the most important part of what we do. They add great contributions to the site, through data uploads from the
Wowhead Client
, comments on database entries, detailed guides, and screenshot submissions! The site also features
forums
, where users can ask questions, discuss important WoW-related topics, recommend and share favorite addons, and much more!
We are firmly committed to the rules of gameplay and to the gaming community. As such, we have a firm stance against virtual item markets, real money trading (RMT) and powerleveling services. You will never see us support such efforts. Furthermore, anything against the World of Warcraft
Terms of Use
or
End User License Agreement
is strictly prohibited on Wowhead.
New and exciting features
are continuously added in order to stay ahead as the leading World of Warcraft information website. We are constantly striving to improve the site, and there are always lots of new features in the works! We'd love to know what you think, so if there's something you'd like to see implemented on the site be sure to contact us!
Wowhead is optimized for
modern browsers
. As of April 2010, old browsers such as Internet Explorer 6 are no longer supported.
History
Wowhead was originally created as a
talent calculator
in December of 2005. It started small, but quickly became a popular alternative to Blizzard's own, even eventually inspiring a redesign of Blizzard's calculator to the version that still exists on their website today.
The database is the result of 6 months of hard work, and was released in June 2006. It features a vast amount of WoW related information, such as in-game
items
,
NPCs
,
quests
,
zones
and much more. It also introduced a uniquely intuitive user interface and a
filtering system
which continues to be one of Wowhead's greatest strengths.
In June of 2007, Wowhead made the decision to join the
ZAM Network
, which also includes
Lolking
,
TF2 Outpost
,
DayZDB
, and
Hearthhead
.
With the team and the site growing all the time, Wowhead is dedicated to providing you with new features and tools to enhance your gaming experience.
Over time, the database has continued to expand, with innovative sections for
transmog sets
and
battle pets
featuring an image database, as well as
Sounds
which are integrated onto all relevant NPC, Spell and Item pages including boss dialogue. We constantly look for ways to improve our existing database pages all the time--for example, our Boss pages now let you filter loot by class, and that loot displays appropriate specializations.
In Wrath of the Lich King, the
Profiler
was launched. This tool has received numerous updates over the years and allows players to track their completion status for achievements, quests, recipes and more. It also lets you preview transmog sets in the Equipment Set tab or make a Custom Profile to play around with sample gear sets, which display item stats, solo buffed stats, and raid buffed stats. Once a character is in the Profiler, you can "Pin" that character to track their collections across Wowhead database pages, tooltips, and search results.
In Cataclysm,
Wowhead News
launched, which providing in-depth coverage of new PTR/beta content, articles on new Wowhead additions, weekend guides to popular content, datamining, and blue posts. In Winter 2014, we launched the
Blue Tweet Tracker
to highlight all the important tweets from Blizzard employees and provide our news with up-to-date information. The weekend guides on Wowhead quickly became so popular that we launched a
Guides Section
on Wowhead where users could submit their own guides! Guides have since expanded to be featured in search results as well as on database pages.
In Mists of Pandaria, the Wowhead team added user-friendly improvements for new players unfamiliar with databases, in addition to adding even more data and filters useful for theorycrafters! This included the launch of the
Item Finder
to provide an alternative to filters, the
Character Planner
suggesting gear, guides, and nearly-completed achievements,
Class Guides
, a revamped Zones section, and improved search results showing off popular database results as well as guides. We also optimized Wowhead for tablet devices!
Currently in Spring 2014, we are continuing to develop new features while working on the new Warlords of Draenor data which includes many new file formats! We have launched a
Warlords of Draenor Talent Calculator
,
Garrison Calculator
, as well as new Garrison sections in the database. The Wowhead Content Team has also been very busy with in-depth guides and videos, which are all compiled at our
Warlords of Draenor Content Hub
.
Due to the ever-changing nature of the game, the Wowhead staff revamped the front page in May 2014. The new front page better highlights the coverage from our Content Team as well as alerts more people to our database updates and innovative tools.

The Wowhead Team
We're in the process of updating this section with bios for our newer staff - Jeremy, Stevan, Howell, and Dennis.
Alexis (
Perculia
) <Site Director>
Alexis started her journey at Wowhead as that one volunteer who wrote guides–a
lot
of guides–and then she started to write everything before officially joining the Wowhead staff in Fall 2011. An invaluable member of the content team, she continues to write the popular weekly guides as well as tackling numerous other site projects like the transmog feature, for which she sorted tens of thousands of items into matching models for sets. (She's still miffed that Warglaives can't be transmogged.)
Alexis has been playing WoW since 2005, doing everything from raiding in a server-first guild on her rogue for multiple expansions to chasing down achievements like Battlemaster and the Insane. With a background in art and music history, she's also the quirkiest member of the team--when not farming mounts or yet more vanity gear in her spare time, she's most likely practicing classical piano or making costumes with elaborate hats.

Jerek (
Jerek
) Dain <Designer / Developer>
Jerek has been doing design and tool development across ZAM sites since 2007, such as designing the charts, tooltips, and filters on the original
LolKing
. After a number of small contributions working with Skosiris early on he's transitioned to doing a lot on Wowhead, notably rushing to get the
MoP talent calculator
live before BlizzCon 2011 ended, and going on to the
battle pet area and pages
revamp, the
new profiler
, and
Hearthhead
tools. He loves learning new programming languages and tools, and making things "pixel perfect".
Jerek has been playing World of Warcraft since the original beta in 2004 and has every collector's edition. He loves to keep switching his main character to top DPS charts, tank, and heal on multiple classes, and leveling multiple warriors (3 different ones to cap!). He's also a big fan of puzzle games, Diablo 2, Alpha Centauri, Metroid, the Legend of Zelda, and Minecraft. In his spare time he customizes everything, starts more projects than he can complete, and listens to tons of audiobooks and podcasts while gaming. Co-lead the raid team Inconclusive/Dark on Proudmoore in Classic and Burning Crusade, and raided with Edamame Enterprise in Convert to Raid during Mists and Draenor.
Martial art: Kenjutsu
Favorite book series: A Song of Ice and Fire
Favorite gaming moment: Leading my raid guild to down
Vaelastrasz
, known on my server as "the guild destroyer" because of guilds that broke up over never down him.
Still remembers Shattered Galaxy.

Matt (
dirtside
) <Developer>
Matt first entered the shadowy realm of web development after the Secret Dimensional War of 1993, which he's just now realizing has been wiped from everyone else's memories, so nevermind. Much of the work he does is hidden on the server side of things, where he refactors like a madman and adds code comments everywhere he can possibly think of, in what's probably an ultimately futile effort to stem the encroaching tide of code rot and entropy. He also enjoys hiking.
That was a lie; he hates hiking. He does, however, keep up with a few dozen TV shows, such as
Super Karate Monkey Death Car
and C-SPAN 2's coverage of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Much like Jerek, he's been playing World of Warcraft since the original beta in 2004, and has undertaken the absurd task of maintaining a max-level but non-raid-geared character of every class since
Wrath of the Lich King
.

Sara (
Serrinn
) <Content Manager>
Sara started out at Wowhead with a love of fashion, writing a guide about matching weapons for the Mists of Pandaria challenge mode outfits. Currently writing guides about everything from Fishing to Pets! Sara has been playing WoW since the ZA patch, once having been a rogue and now playing a priest. In her real life, she's a librarian and law school graduate - she's got a thing for books. In her spare time, she's playing Diablo or watching rugby.

Daniella (
Ketsuki
) <Assistant Site Producer & Networking>
Daniella started her journey on Wowhead on late February of 2016. Taking over the Class Guides projects as well as coming up with new article series that have expanded the community base of Wowhead. Daniella also works on networking and reaching out to content creators as well as other groups who may want to do things with Wowhead.
Daniella has been playing World of Warcraft since towards the end of 2005, starting off as a Shaman, playing and dabbling is all 3 specs but mostly raiding as a Restoration Shaman up until Wrath of the Lich King. Towards the middle of Wrath, she made a swap to Death Knight and hasn't looked back since. Apart from World of Warcraft, Daniella enjoys many other types of games such as Rpgs/Jrpgs, Overwatch, Monster Hunter Series, Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons Series, Animal Crossing, etc.

ZAM Network
The following staff members contribute to Wowhead as well as other popular ZAM Network sites such as
Lolking
,
TF2Oupost
, and
Hearthhead
.
Stephen (
Sas148
) <Community Relations Manager>
Stephen joined Wowhead as a volunteer Moderator in 2012 before eventually taking on screenshots and other responsibilities. His desire to advance and better the Wowhead community eventually resulted in an offer to help facilitate communications between the site and its users. After receiving his degree in Business Administration he was offered a broader role involving the entire network of ZAM sites but he still remains heavily involved with Wowhead.
When not answering emails and troubleshooting various anomalies you'd probably find Stephen catching up on various TV shows, like Game of Thrones, or playing whatever game his friends are obsessed with that week. Odds are though you'd probably just find him finally getting some sleep.
