Introduction
Somewhere along your journeys through Azeroth, you may have done a quest for a Tauren begging you to help him find his dog. Or perhaps you found a charming wishing well in the Jade Forest. Maybe some flowers by a tombstone in Hillsbrad Foothills caught your eye. If so, then you've seen one of Blizzard's tributes to real people who have passed away. This guide will go over where these memorials are found and to whom they pay tribute.

托法尔·冲轮
is in tribute to the legendary artist Christopher Rush, who was one of the original illustrators for
Magic: The Gathering
and a huge fan of WoW. He passed away from a heart attack at the age of 50 on February 10, 2016.
One of his daughters wrote that "Magic was his life, and what he gave his heart and soul to." Gamers grew up with his artwork, and his enthusiasm for the game resonated with them. They were also touched by how kind he was at conventions and fan gatherings. He loved his fans and always made time for them, putting people at ease with his smile and humble personality.
As well as drawing the most iconic cards in the game, Christopher was involved in other aspects of its design as well, such as the color symbols of mana. He was part of other
Wizards of the Coast
projects, too, and left
Wizards of the Coast
in 1999, after which he worked from the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas as a freelance artist.
托法尔·冲轮
is a level 60 gnome who can be found in the Eastern Plaguelands along the perimeter wall inside Light’s Hope Chapel, where he is surrounded by black lotus flowers which randomly change in size. Above his head rotate five gems whose colors are a reference to the game colors of
Magic: The Gathering
.
Topher Rushcog will wave at you if you wave at him. When you click on him, he says things like:
My plants are coming in nicely this year. The key is clippings from a much more primordial strain of lotus, the alpha if you will. Quite a prized possession, that.
The undead would be much less of a hassle if only they were more mortal.
My favorite Hearthstone card? It's got to be lightning bolt!
His daughter wrote: "Each reference saying is related to a card he did. One of the quotes matches the flavor text of Eron the Reckless, which was a self-portrait of him in the 90s. He looked a lot more like the gnome in the end of his life."

布拉德福·T·卡隆
is in tribute to Brad Lawson. Brad was a mechanical engineer who had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma during the summer of 2014. He passed away in December of 2015 around the age of 34.
Brad had survived cancer once before. At 24, he had been diagnosed with carcinoma of the parotid gland, which would have been fatal had the surgery not been successful. Several years later, he was living in Minneapolis, MN, when he began to get periodically sick. Although doctors had never found anything wrong with him, he continued to get worse, and on July 3rd, 2014, he ended up in the emergency room when he began having trouble breathing. A CT scan showed that a large tumor was in his chest. After five days in the cardiac intensive care unit, his condition was stabilized enough for the tumor to be diagnosed and for treatment to begin.
Despite the onset of cancer, Brad and his fiance, Alyssa, were able to be married in the hospital’s sanctuary that same month. In November of 2014, his family started a GoFundMe page called
Help Brad Beat Cancer
. The gofundme page charted the ups and downs of his progress until December 2015, when they learned that the new and more aggressive chemo treatment was not working. Brad came home on hospice care, and was able to celebrate Christmas with his family. That same month, he passed away.
Brad loved playing WoW, and had friends who worked for Blizzard. He had been the guildmaster of the Horde guild Robot Kitten Happy Train on US-Tichondrius ever since the guild was formed in 2005. It is appropriate that Brad’s NPC is located in Tarren Mill, because he and his guildies had loved to PvP in Hillsbrad Foothills.
bears the title “Master Tailor.” Brad played an Undead arcane mage named Tkaron, and tailoring was one of his professions. When you click on him, he says:
Burn it down, burn it all down, ha ha ha!
and also:
No matter how bad things get, remember that there’s always an open car on the happy train. Toot toot!
When you visit, be sure to do a /train emote with him, and he’ll make the train gesture along with you. As a final homage to Brad and his guild, prowling around the room are five felines, each named Happy and numbered I-V.
According to a Facebook comment after his NPC was first screenshotted from the Legion alpha on January 13, 2016, Brad had been able to see his NPC before he passed away.

罗斯克
is in tribute to Anthony Ray Stark, who lived from 1961 to 2005. Anthony was a mortgage broker who enjoyed getting together with friends to play WoW. He loved scuba diving, and passed away during this activity after something went wrong with his heart. His friends, some of whom were Blizzard employees, arranged this memorial for him.
Rousch was his main character and pays continual respect at the site by alternately kneeling, standing, and saluting the monument. His gear comes from a variety of sources - raid loot, vendor items, and a quest reward - so it's likely the same gear that Anthony's character was wearing at the time, and would also indicate that he participated in both raiding and PVP.
If you click on the monument, it lists Anthony's name and the years he lived.

Location:
Phloppy is located south-east of Ironforge, and walks up and down from a cart to a building at the end of the path, delivering supplies to refugees.
布伊恩·“懒鬼”·徒手
is in tribute to Phloppy, a legendary player whose main was a dwarf warrior on the US-Maelstrom server. He suffered from liver failure, and passed away in 2010 at age 38. He had selflessly rejected the possibility of a liver transplant - with his medical condition, he didn’t want to use up a liver that could save someone else’s life.
Phloppy was larger than life - a shooting star. He was a born leader who led by example, who always had a plan, and whose excitement and optimism were infectious. He loved PVP - both world PVP and especially Alterac Valley, which became known among his friends as Phloppy Valley. Here and in everything else he did, his charisma and motivation inspired everyone, even those who had never met him before.
There was no class he could not play. He dual-boxed as well, and loved to roll characters on new servers to see how fast he could level up. He loved harder and worked harder than anyone else his friends had ever met, and he brought enthusiasm and joy to everything he did. His friends recall that his only setting was 11.
He was involved in several guilds: The Shadow Watch, The Company, Amok, and Soulbound. After he passed away, a Blizzard employee who was a guild member arranged for Phloppy’s in-game tribute.
Phloppy had boundless passion and energy for helping people in game and in real life. He had friends all over the world, and he gave his all to his friends and to everything he did. Nearby NPCs comment that Buin has sold his belongings to buy food for Cataclysm refugees: a fitting mirror of Phloppy’s selfless generosity.

is named after a Blizzard senior database developer who passed away in 2009 from brain cancer. He was born in Nevada in 1975, and attended UC Irvine, where he obtained a B.S. in physics and an MBA.
He was an avid WoW player who was best known as a Dwarf priest named Lotion on US-Dunemaul, where he was an officer in the guild Trouble. He also played a Draenei shaman named Fishlips, who was in the guild Blacklist, also on US-Dunemaul, as well as in the guilds Damnation and indifference on US-Ner'zhul. Trouble transferred as a guild from Tichondrius to Dunemaul in 2005, and at that time, it was the best pvp guild on the server. While it was mostly a PVP guild, they also raided as well, and Shay enjoyed both the PVE and PVP aspects of the game.
Shay had a great sense of humor, which never flagged despite his illness. Trouble was a close-knit, inimitable community whose members enjoyed kidding around with one another, and he knew many of his guildmates personally. A number of them lived in the same area of California, and they would head to the Tustin Brewery together on Friday nights.
塞伊·普雷斯勒
is a guild vendor, and is located in the Stormwind Visitor’s Center close to the Stormwind entrance. Next to him is a young NPC,

大法师纳卡达
is in tribute to Ron Nakada, a senior software engineer at Blizzard. Less than a year after his
Disney fairy tale wedding
to his wife, Linda, on November 24, 2012, Ron was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer that had metastasized to his liver, lungs, and lymph nodes. He passed away on April 2, 2014.
Ron attended the University of California, San Diego, where he obtained a bachelor of science degree in computer engineering and a minor in music. He joined Blizzard in 2006 and became the single guiding force behind WoW’s entire spell system. Everything that happens with spells and how they interact in the game is because of the work he did. He was also behind the calendar system as well: when you use the calendar and sign up for events, you are able to do so because of Ron. Such was his prodigious talent, knowledge, and intellect for what he did that when he had to take a sabbatical because of his health, Blizzard had to hire two people to do his job. His manager
wrote
on reddit: "Our spells and abilities are the core of our game, and there was only one person with the level of knowledge and drive on our team to make the tremendous impact he did. It seemed fitting to honor him by having him teach spells."
And that is exactly what Archmage Nakada does. He bears the title "Master of Spells," and was added in patch 6.0.1. He can be found on the grass near the tall tower at the heart of the Mage Quarter in Stormwind City. There, he is joined by NPCs named for his real life family: his wife and his four stepchildren, Jeremy, Elizabeth, Naomi, and Daniel. There are two other children present as well, named Jenna and Sammy, but posters on reddit who know the family personally say there are no family members with these names, so their significance is not known.
If you talk to Archmage Nakada, he asks if you would like to volunteer in today’s lecture. When you click the "Volunteer" option, you get transformed into a random creature while the children giggle at you. You receive
纳卡达的特殊技巧
buff when you are transformed, which lasts five minutes, and because of the
测试对象
debuff, you must wait thirty minutes before you can assist in another lesson.
Ron is remembered for his devotion to his family, his sense of humor, and his work ethic. He loved Disneyland and Maui, his two favorite places on earth. He also loved sports, especially baseball and hockey, and his favorite teams were the Anaheim Angels, San Diego Padres, San Diego Chargers , and Anaheim Ducks. He was a fan of Star Wars, so it was no coincidence that the event for the celebration of his life (which he had asked for instead of a traditional memorial service) was held on May 4. He was talented in music, too, and first met Linda in high school marching band at the state championships.
As well as receiving this tribute in WoW, Ron has also been memorialized in Wasteland 2, a game by InXile Entertainment, where his friend John Alvarado works.
Ron's fundraiser, "Help Ron Beat Cancer," raised $43,300 to help his family with medical expenses that were not covered by insurance. The fundraiser is now closed, but you can still visit the site via the Wayback Machine

Richard lived in Chicago, Illinois, and was a veteran who worked as a computer programmer for a trucking parts company. He loved computers and gaming, was always positive and full of jokes, and he always knew where to get good food.
Above all, though, he was passionate about helping people. He was a Blizzard beta tester and posted on the old Blizzard help forums, where he went by the name of T’kron. He was designated as the Top Beta Tester of the Blizzard StarCraft Brood War Beta, and his tremendous knowledge and presence online earned him the second ever MVP designation for the Blizzard Technical Support forums. He was also a founding admin for the website
TheHelper.net
, a website which in its
early days
offered unofficial tech support via its forums for Starcraft and Diablo issues. In addition to helping people online, he sat in the Blizzard booth for at least one E3 convention, which is where many who knew him online got to meet him in person as well.
His iconic status went even beyond the gaming community. Once, T'kron called Dell's technical support team about an issue that happened when playing Diablo on a specific Dell model, and the Dell rep was floored when he realized he was talking to none other than T'kron. Dell had been monitoring the Blizzard help forums in the hopes of finding a solution to that problem, and they were well aware of T'kron's tremendous knowledge and ability to solve any issue that came his way.
His NPC stands in the Cathedral of Light, and cheerily greets visitors who pass by: a fitting tribute, for not only does
萨尔努修士
resemble Richard Sarno in appearance, but the NPC’s continual friendliness exemplifies the enthusiasm and patience he always had for helping and educating other gamers.

After a family vacation to the Southwest in June of 2010, Angela’s hand felt funny, so she had it checked out. After a variety of tests and medical visits, she was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. There is no cure for ALS, and after a nine month battle with the disease, Angela passed away on May 14, 2011 at the age of 41.
As well as obtaining a memorial NPC in WoW, Angela has a pavilion named for her at the William Zimmer Park in Waterloo, Illinois. It was built with funds donated to her while she was sick - she had passed away before all of the funds could be used to help her, so the pavilion was a way for her family to give back to the community which had been so generous to her.

When you interact with him, he will say things like “Do you know any good jokes, ?” and “Have you seen my comrades?” If you tell him jokes, he laughs and has several responses, including "Hohohoho, that's a funny one! Both NPCs were added in patch 8.1.5.29701 and are rare elites who appear in Stormwind City and Orgrimmar. Upon arrival, they yell Stan Lee's catchphrase, "Excelsior!", and then walk around for a few minutes before fading away. The Alliance Stanley appears inside the Royal Library room inside Stormwind Keep. He walks out of the room, waves to Alliance leadership in the throne room, and proceeds down the flights of stairs before disappearing by the fountain.
From what I have observed, it seems that both Stanleys appear instantly the moment you reach their spawn points for the first time, but once they disappear, I'm not sure when or if they will reappear for you if you use the same toon again. Whenever I visited either Stanley, the NPCs would appear instantly as long as I took new toons to the area, but if I returned later using any of those same toons, he didn't reappear. I asked a friend who had not yet seen this NPC to come visit him while I watched and while he could see Stanley, I could not. We were on the same server so we stayed ungrouped at first , but even after we grouped up, I still couldn't see him. So if you plan to visit Stanley, be aware that this is likely a one time opportunity per character.

"The Unknown Soldier" is most likely a reference to the custom many countries have of creating memorials for unknown soldiers, such as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier or Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery. This tomb and its nearby crypts were created to memorialize the remains of unknown soldiers from four conflicts during the twentieth century: World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. It is guarded 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by elite Tomb Guard Sentinels from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment. The Unknown Soldier in Duskwood is not able to maintain so complete a vigil, however, as he can be killed by players for gear and experience, but the tomb's brown-robed Dark Portal guardians keep a perpetual watch over the area.

credits. He passed away on May 1, 2009 from a fatal car accident. He was 25 years old, and it was just a few days away from his first wedding anniversary.
Justin was a talented writer and musician as well, and made a difference in the lives of all who knew him. A quote from his obituary reads:
The essence of Justin’s spirit and view of life is eloquently expressed in a passage from Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s The Little Prince: “On ne voit bien qu’avec le coeur. L’essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.” (“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye.”)
公正的莱德尔
was added to the game in patch 3.2.0, and can be found in the Exodar. He is one of the battlemasters standing in alcoves up the stairs to your right as you enter the Vault of Lights.

斯坦里
(Alliance side) and
斯坦里
(Horde side) are both in tribute to the legendary Stan Lee of Marvel Comics, who passed away at the age of 95 on November 12th, 2018.
Both NPCs were added in patch 8.1.5.29701 and are rare elites who appear in Stormwind City and Orgrimmar. Upon arrival, they yell Stan Lee's catchphrase, "Excelsior!", and then walk around for a few minutes before fading away. The Horde version of Stanley appears inside the building with the Darkspear trolls, which is on the left side of the Valley of Strength auction house (if you stand facing the auction house). Stanley exits the building, goes into Grommash Hold to wave at Horde leadership, and then proceeds to Pathfinder's Den where he disappears in front of the portal to Azsuna.

The Shrine of the Fallen Warrior /
科尔特
is in tribute to Michel Martin Koiter (1984-2004). Michel was born in Argentina, and attended the Art Academy of Utrecht in the Netherlands.
At the time, Michel and his twin brother, René, were freelance artists who collaborated together as Twincruiser, a name they'd used in StarCraft. Michel was the creator and illustrator, while René did colors, graphics, and web design. They were contracted to do illustrations for the Warcraft Dungeons & Dragons books when they got to know Samwise Didier, who reached out to them after he came across their artwork online. Through Didier, they also got to know Chris Metzen, and experienced what René termed "the Blizzard rollercoaster ride of our life" as they worked with their art heroes, launched the website for the newly formed Blizzard art group called Sons of the Storm, and play-tested the alpha version of WoW.
It was a very busy and creative time for the brothers, full of promise for the future. Then Michel caught a flu, which, for unknown reasons as he had led a healthy, active lifestyle, quickly grew worse until his body could no longer cope, and he died of heart failure. He was only nineteen years old.
René, who now works at Blizzard, wrote this poem about his brother and the monument in WoW:
Where once a hero set foot on his native soil a monument has risen
Where now part of his essence resides a mystical boon will be given
Upon the monument the runic initials MK have been engraved
To honor all the journeys and battles the fallen one has braved
A hero's enduring spirit transcends many worlds beyond our own
Only those with steadfast dedication find a bond with this unknown
Travel the continents and scour the lands for the shrine standing tall
For in the presence of the monolith the warrior will be with you all.
Michel was made a posthumous member of the Sons of the Storm art group. The group's website, which was closed down in 2017, featured a memorial page about his story and legacy, available to view only via the Wayback Machine
here
. This beautiful and moving tribute was written by René, who recalled how his brother's last words to him were, "It'll be all right..."
He gave up what was left of his essence to strengthen me in his last stand. In all these years, this timely reasoning has been the one guarantee that has assured my mind from breaking into pieces. Instead, this comfort has shaped my being anew, leaving me wholly transfigured as a different man. How striking is it now that my name is René, literally meaning 'to be reborn'.
Even though I artistically collaborated with Michel, he was the single driving engine. The Twincruiser vessel did not have two captains, it had one and I was his shadow. I could delve deep into the characteristics of my brother, but I say this without any glorified bias that he was way, way beyond me in many aspects at the age of 19. Truthfully, I see myself as being at his level now at age 26. I can say I miss having my brother around physically but not as much as I miss him not having had the opportunity to evolve in Blizzard. With seven years of dedication, he would no doubt have been a creative monster in the art department. I'd like to think it is this unsung feat of talent that merited my brother to become a part of World of Warcraft and now a symbol in the StarCraft universe.
As I conclude this tribute, my brother's final words echo through and begin to crystallize, almost to the point of being prophetic. I may have lost a brother, but through his death I have been blessed with a band of newfound brothers within Blizzard. And as long as I remain within their presence, Michel is alive and well.
To the family who keeps
Michel's flame burning bright.
There is no greater glory
that has been so worth the fight.
科尔特
is a spirit healer who can be found on the top of a hill west of the town of Crossroads. This location was specifically chosen because Crossroads was, to quote Samwise Didier, "where together we kicked so much ass." The memorial features the spirit healer, the monument with Michel's initials on it, and an orc laid on top of the shrine. The orc is a copy of Michel's beta character, Twincruiser.

is in tribute to Ezra Phoenix Chatterton. Ezra was born in 1996 and passed away in 2008 after a 20 month fight with brain cancer. Ezra played WoW with his father, Micah, and among his characters, he had a Tauren hunter named Ephoenix. This was truly a father-son activity - they would research the game together and consult one another before making gear choices and other decisions for their characters. When Ezra was asked once why he liked to play WoW, he said it was because he liked interacting with people he didn't know. No matter how bad things were in the real world for him with his illness, Ezra liked that he could be strong and successful and turn people's heads in the game.
In 2007, Ezra visited the Blizzard headquarters through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. There, he was able to design the Ahab Wheathoof NPC and his
凯雷失踪了!
quest. He recorded Ahab's voice, and Ahab’s dog, Kyle, is named after Ezra's dog. Ezra designed a new crossbow,
残酷角斗士的凤凰之弩
, which can be purchased in Area 52 from
打击者科吉克
and is transmoggable. Blizzard also made him the first rider of the phoenix mount,
奥的灰烬
. After he passed away, the Thunder Bluff elder was renamed in his honor:
长者伊萨·麦蹄
.
Micah wrote:
Ezra died at 9:45 on Monday night. The cancer attacked those portions of the brain that control breathing, and his lungs eventually shut down. He was conscious until the very end, and though he couldn't speak, he could still communicate with me through hand gestures and nods. Ezra was in pain, gasping for breath, and very scared, but up to a few hours before he died, he was asking for ice cream and choosing the things I read to him. As much as I feared the cancer would take his mind and memory away from him, he held onto those as long as he could.
The ironies are sickening. Ezra's mind was always his greatest strength, and stayed strong even as his brain was malfunctioning. His spirit and his will to live life well grew so amazing powerful all the way to the point that his life was taken from him. No one I have ever met was as talented at finding the bright side of a horrible situation, adapting his worldview to whatever new hardship befell him, and generally milking every last drop of happiness he could out of life as Ezra, and he's the one who is taken. The one person in my life who most loved living and was most exceptionally gifted at it, and he's the one who is taken.
I say these things because I am in pain, because I miss my son so much, and because Ezra's death is an undeniable tragedy. It is the world's loss that he doesn't get to do more, and fulfill his great potential. But I also hope that I can learn from his example. When Ezra couldn't walk anymore, he turned to World of Warcraft. When he couldn't see, he turned to music, or our pets, or food, or directing me to play World of Warcraft for him. The trick was that, as his world got smaller, he just looked at it more closely. If I am to take any shred of good from this suffering, I'll have to learn from him.
I hope to honor my son by learning to love my life as much as he did. It will take a long time to get to that point, especially now that my greatest joy is gone, but Ezra would demand it of me. I ask the WoW community, who have been so generous and kind to us, to please help me honor Ezra by doing the same in your hearts. Ezra's sickness and painful death was a tragedy, an experience that showed me a glimpse of how easily suffering can invade your life, but his response to it showed me how a strong will can overcome that suffering. As well, the outpouring of love from all WoW players all over the globe showed me how wonderful people can be to someone they've never met. Our bodies are fragile, but our hearts are incredibly strong. A tumor the size of a raisin is enough to destroy the brain, but our minds are so much more powerful and immense than the brain.
My son, Ezra Phoenix Chatterton, Ephoenix the Hunter, Squirlanator the Mage, is gone. All we have left in this world are memories of him. Please remember that he was a good person, smart and clever but also very kind, that he loved to play World of Warcraft, that he loved rice pudding and fettuccine alfredo, and that he went through so much pain and still found ways to smile all the way to the end. Please remember too the kindness of Blizzard, and the overwhelming love of the WoW community. Without these gifts, Ezra would still have found a way to be happy and optimistic, just not as easily.
And the WoW community did indeed respond to the loss of this young gamer. Ezra's story had become well known after his visit to Blizzard, and he had received an overwhelming amount of support from WoW players, ranging from encouraging emails and online comments to cheers and bows when people saw him in the game. One of the ways the community responded after Ezra's passing was by holding and participating in an event called
Running of Da Bulls.
Ezra had read BigRedKitty.net, which prompted BigRedKitty (Daniel Howell) to set up this fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish foundation in Ezra's honor. The plan was to invade Stormwind City on US-Argent Dawn on November 8, 2008. Those who could would show up with their levels 70s, and those who did not have any toons already on the realm would create level 1 Taurens, and, in BRK's words, "amass the single largest Baby Tauren Army ever seen." The Tauren race was chosen because Ezra played a Tauren, and they would all be in the guild "Run for Ezra." Bloodmoon Chosen, a Horde guild on the realm, along with any other high levels, would escort the army of baby cows to Ratchet, then via boat to Booty Bay, and from thence to Goldshire and finally Stormwind City.
The only hitch with this plan was that so many people participated. 897 level one Taurens showed up, as well as 55 level 70s, and 30-40 other Horde players around level 50. There were also around 300 Alliance members playing defense at Stormwind, most of whom were level 70. Many of the baby Taurens did make it at least as far as Booty Bay, but the sheer masses of toons in one spot was just too much for the server to handle, and it crashed multiple times. GMs began asking people to disperse and not to go on to Stormwind, so BigRedKitty ended the event early. A
video
on YouTube shows some footage from the evening and all the people who showed up to support Ezra and the Make-A-Wish foundation.

In the northern part of Feralas is Lake Dumont, and in the middle of the lake is an island. This area was added in Cataclysm, and is best reached with the use of flying mounts. A number of NPCs are present on the island and perform various activities such as sleeping, dancing, or walking around. A ruined tower is still on fire, and debris from the tower is also ablaze (although no one seems concerned about putting it out). Various cats trot about the tranquil scene. And underneath a tree beside the tower is a lone tombstone. It is decorated with flowers and a sword, and reads "Ivan" when moused over.
All of the NPCs on this island are named after a team of Blizzard employees. One of those involved in the design of this area was Jonathan Dumont, who was a level designer at the time. In 2019, he revealed on

that Ivan was a tribute to his father:

安德斯塔兹
is the name of a level 5 red dragon asleep in a cave just off the coast of Ahn'Qiraj. This dragon was added in patch 5.3.0, and the "-strasz" ending for his name indicates that he is a male. The rest of his name has raised speculation among WoW players that this is an in-game memorial to someone named Andre. On January 1, 2014, Blizzard game designer Dave Maldonado responded via Twitter to an inquiry about Andrestrasz:
I'd bet $20 it's a homage to someone's 5 yr old named Andre but would have to dig into data to find out for sure.
At this time, there is no further information available.
To find Andrestrasz, it's easiest to fly along the coast of south-west Uldum until you enter the zone of Ahn'Qiraj. You'll know you've reached the cave when you see some trees at its entrance. Once inside, you can either jump down to the bottom of the cave (you'll see Andrestrasz off to the right if you look over the edge) or follow the ramp down. If you follow the ramp down, go right when it forks, and the path will lead you to the dragon. Andrestrasz lies in peaceful slumber with green Z's floating above him, although every now and then he will raise his head and yawn before going back to sleep.
To get back out of the cave (if you don't wish to hearth), follow the path back out until it forks. Either way will get you back up to the cave entrance, but going left is a bit quicker.

A few months before he was diagnosed with cancer, Dak introduced himself on the Boulderfist Heroes forum:
Posted: Wed Mar 22, 2006 6:42 pm Post subject: CAYLEEeeee......
My real name is Dak James Krause. I was born in Los Gatos, California on March 10th, 1979. Up until the last few years, which I spent hopping between San Diego and San Jose, I lived exclusively in San Jose. I was what can easily be defined as a juvenile delinquent and attended 3 high schools here in San Jose, eventually graduating from Andrew Hill. ( The worst of the 3.) I've spent ALOT of time in meaningless, dead end jobs. Dabbled in everything from theme park attendant ( LOL ) to security gaurd. I've spun pizza's and 2x4's. In all this I think the most important thing I've learned is that college is the most neccessary, most missed and by far the most important thing in my life. This fall I will be returning to San Jose City College to resume my general ed so I can transfer in a year and some change to Monterey State. There I will be studying international business and minoring in Japanese language and culture. WoW is the second MMO I've been addicted to. The first was FFXI and I played this religiously for just over 2years. I played on the quetzalcoatl server with Zyd(who seems to favor RF online now >.<) and another real life friend of mine whom I've known since 4th grade. He still plays FFXI. The slag. Anyways, I wanted to say how much meeting all of you has meant to me. From my first char in WoW, Simon and everyone else here in the Boulderfist Heroes has really made me feel welcome. You guys and girls have given me a home, a place to hang my slippers and sip hot cocoa, a place to throw darts and drink beer, a place to laugh and be laughed at, and it's a truely wonderful feeling. Thank You All. It is an honor to be here with you guys. I will post my pic later on tonight or this weekend. I have a friendster site with some more of my info on it but im not sure what the link is, so as soon as I can find it, I will link it.
In the
forum topic
created about his passing, a guildmate recalled:
Dak never gave up, he never quit. We spoke about the pain and the one thing that took his mind away from it was playing together with all of us. He told me the one thing that made him happy was the laughter together when we would say or do something stupid.
Dak was a friend.
We spoke about his cancer and my spinal injury, the pain, the medication and the only thing he could care about was that I felt better and that I would be alright in the future. How rare to meet such a selfless person.
I spoke with Dak in july, he knew what was coming, but he didnt give up the fight, he is truly a man amongst men and he will never be fogotten.
Caylee is named after his character and wears Dak's gear with his pet, Dusky, by her side. Caylee ends the quest,
奥利卡的诗
, which includes a poem originally written by Mary Frye in 1932 and adapted by Alicia, a friend and guild member. She is also in the game as
奥利卡
in Stormwind Keep (you can find her
here
), and is the starting point for the quest.
The poem reads:
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
across Northrend's bright and shining snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
on Westfall's fields of golden grain.
I am in the morning hush,
of Stranglethorn's jungle, green and lush.
I am in the drums loud and grand,
the thunderous hooves across Nagrand.
I am the stars warmly gleaming,
over Darnassus softly dreaming.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

Kevin Kanai Griffith (KKG) was a senior artist at Blizzard who passed away in October of 2014 from a rare type of cancer known as Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma (ASPS). He was born in 1982, and attended the Art Institutes of California – Orange County. In 2005, he began working for Blizzard, where he contributed art to
World of Warcraft
and
Diablo III.
A lifelong gamer, he was passionate about his art, and was one of the founders of a sketch group at Blizzard, which promoted creative outlets through drawing. He always made everyone feel welcomed and included, whether or not they were an artist by profession.

wrote
:
Until this cancer hit, Kevin dreamed about being an entrepreneur and starting his own company. He loved to eat pepperoni pizza and peanut butter milkshakes. He liked to make funny noises and could beatbox a mean Zelda theme song. He would stay up marathoning TV shows or playing video games all night. He would hit the gym almost every day with co-workers, and organize running groups. He DJ'ed, ran sketch groups, and liked throwing parties for his friends. One year, he decided to throw a Bill and Ted themed Halloween party, and got a bunch of us to build the phone booth from the movie. Yeah, he is that kind of guy. A good friend, a loving partner, and a great artist who loves making video games.
In February of 2012, Kevin had a tumor removed from his chest, and was diagnosed with stage four cancer at the age of 29. In July of the same year, he married Connie Wang, a former Blizzard employee. By this time, more tumors had spread into both lungs. Given the type of cancer he had, his best option for treatment was laser aided lung surgery by a specialist in Germany. Three days after their wedding, Kevin and Connie were in Germany, where Kevin underwent a procedure he described as “basically opening up my chest and pew pewing the tiny little tumors" until they were gone. By November, over 250 little tumors had been removed from his lungs. Unfortunately, this didn’t keep the cancer from progressing, and over the next two years, Kevin and Connie fought his cancer together, and documented his health journey in their
blog
.
Kevin stayed positive through his ordeal,
writing
before a surgery in Germany:
Connie has been my greatest supporter during this experience and I love her more than anything in the world. She has infused me with positivity and strength which makes this experience much easier. I see a lot of depressed cancer patients walking around alone and I think I might have enough positive energy to give them once I begin to recover (I can’t understand most of them, but I learned a thing or 2 about body language communication when we visited China a couple years ago and there are some awesome translation apps on my Iphone which I carry around). Maybe I will draw them something.
Kevin was always giving back to the gaming and art communities, and now fellow game artists and friends rallied to help him in return. Due to issues with his insurance company, Kevin had to pay out of pocket for his procedures, so a fundraiser was started. Thanks to the rapid spread of the story online, the fundraiser was a complete success and raised over $70,000, exceeding the original $50,000 goal. Kevin
wrote
:
Thank you to everyone who either donated money or spread the link around. I would have never reached the goal so quickly if it wasn’t for you all. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it made it on reddit and some of the comments totally made me laugh (the health care debate and the cancer troll/anti-troll battles were incredible). The thoughtful comments/hugs you left me are really something special. I have a hard time keeping my tears at bay when I read the messages some of you posted.
In addition,
Gamers for Good
was formed by his friends and colleagues, and is an organization which provides charitable assistance by gamers for gamers and the community. 283 artists from all over the gaming industry contributed to a book called Gamer for Life, which contains fan art from Kevin’s top ten favorite games. After Kevin’s passing, GFG continued production on the book as a tribute to him, with proceeds going to
Game Changer
, an organization that donates medical funding and games to kids with cancer, and
CureASPS.org
, which is the main group researching Kevin’s cancer. Unfortunately, the book is not obtainable now, as it was a gift to donors during the fundraising campaign, which ended on March 18, 2015 after raising $67,760.

Brad is survived by his wife and two daughters, and is remembered by his friends and coworkers for his capable, calm leadership (he was nicknamed "Boy Wonder" because of his youth and talent), and for how well he personified his favorite poem,
True Gentleman
.
Brad was an avid WoW player, and his brother, Robert Bridenbecker, is a Blizzard employee, who asked Blizzard if there was anything they could do in his honor. He was given the choice of either having Brad be part of the Lich King's main story line or giving him a quest series, and Robert opted for the latter. Crusader Bridenbrad’s quest chain starts with
勇气的传说
, and is symbolic of his battle with cancer.

is in tribute to Jeremy M. Steen. He was born in Pennsylvania, and served for four years in the U.S. Air Force as a computer programmer before working as a web developer and designer for companies such as Northrop Grumman, Sungard, and Pavone.
On March 14, 2009, he was traveling through Virginia and had pulled over on I-295 so he and two other occupants of the car could get out and retrieve a piece of fallen luggage. At that moment, however, a vehicle ran off the highway and struck him. While the others involved in the accident did not receive any life threatening injuries, Jeremy was pronounced dead on the scene. He was 30 years old and had two children.
Jeremy had a joy for life and was known for his sense of humor as well as his loyalty to his friends. He played WoW, and also loved playing video games with his son. He was talented in sports as well, including dodgeball, volleyball, and indoor soccer, and also enjoyed participating in poker games with his friends on Monday nights.
A friend who worked for Blizzard arranged for this tribute to him:
斯汀·绿角
was added in patch 3.2.0, which was released in August of 2009. He is a stable master and stands at the Sunreaver Pavilion with his pet warp stalker, Froggle, at his side. This leads to the inference that Jeremy played a Tauren Hunter named Horngrass and had a pet warp stalker named Froggle, but no information has yet been found to confirm this speculation.

Tabea had many friends at Blizzard, some of whom had known her for a long time and had seen her grow up. Her brother and best friend, Beni, also works for Blizzard.
An activist for animal rights who loved dogs, Tabea adopted her first one when she was ten, and volunteered in animal shelters. Her dream was to open an animal shelter in Chile. She attended Irvine Valley College, and loved the beach, archery, and running. She was passionate about music, especially Bob Marley, and loved to sing and play in drum circles. She is remembered by all as a generous, kindhearted person whose smile was as warm and bright as the sun.
塔贝亚
can be found in the Northrend/Crystalsong Forest version of Dalaran, walking back and forth in the grassy area next to the Violet Citadel with her dog,

. Apollo is named after Tabea's own dog, a black and white husky whom she rescued. He used to be a reddish hyena model, but at some point, he was switched out for a wolf. Along with the model change, Apollo now randomly gets a heart floating temporarily over him with the typical "love" melody. Another change is more subtle: Tabea used to look straight ahead, based on old videos/screenshots that I have of her, but now her head stays turned slightly to whichever side Apollo is on, so she is always watching her beloved pet.

is in tribute to Nathan C. Nelson, aka "EgoRager." Nate was born in 1978 and passed away from cancer in 2008, just four days before his 30th birthday. He was a computer program supervisor in Columbus, Ohio, who graduated from DeVry University and also served in the Army National Guard.
Nate was a member of TeamEgo, an organization that has been around since the beginning of online gaming. TeamEgo has a subsidiary RPG group called Mortis Consortium, and Nate was in the Horde guild of the same name on the Illidan server. His WoW toons included Berg, an Orc Hunter, and Domi. WoW was just one of many games he played with TeamEgo and Mortis Consortium – he had previously used the name Synipus in EverQuest and Star Wars Galaxies.
His TeamEgo
memorial page
notes:
Not only was Nate’s gaming and leadership skill valued by his TeamEgo brothers and sisters, his knowledge as a gamer and programmer also gave insight to numerous game developers over the years. Nate spent many hours with game developers playing games with them in beta, engaging them in in-depth conversations about theoretical, technical and gameplay issues to assist them in game development.
While Nate may have been one of the more influential gamers around because of the high regard he shared with the world’s foremost gaming developers, he was hardly the nerdy, technical wonk some might suppose. Nate was nothing if not fun to play and chat with while gaming. While he probably understood the games he played at a level of depth not familiar to those he played with, he valued everyone’s perspective and knew that the one factor common in every successful game and gamer was fun. And Nate certainly knew how to have fun.
Synipus is a level 74 Alliance questgiver located in the Grizzly Hills at the Blue Sky Logging Grounds, and offers the daily quest,

This wishing well is in tribute to Brian "Owen" Wicks, who passed away in 2012 at age 16 from osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. Owen began to play WoW with family members when he was 8 years old. His main was on US-Gorgonnash, an Undead Death Knight named Decaulion. He loved the game, and it provided an escape during his 2-year battle with cancer. His family would bring his laptop and internet booster to the hospital with them whenever he had chemo or surgeries, and WoW served as a welcome distraction from his illness.
In February of 2012, Owen visited the Blizzard HQ through the Make-A-Wish foundation. There, he worked with game designers to create Owen’s Wishing Well. Everything you see in this area - all the critters and items - were picked out by Owen. A coin lies on the edge of the well, and if you throw it in, you gain the

Owen stayed strong and courageous throughout his ordeal, once remarking that it was the oncology team who was really battling his cancer, and that he was just the battlefield. His battle may be over, but he is not forgotten.

is in tribute to a WoW player who lived in Florida and was a DJ who played breaks music as DJ Booms. He passed away in 2011 from heart complications. Booms played an Undead priest of the same name on the PVP server of US-Stonemaul, where he was in the guild Final Ascension. He enjoyed participating in world PVP and battlegrounds, and achieved the rank of General in the old PVP system.
Back in vanilla, Booms became known for exacting a small toll from players trying to use the boat at Menethil Harbor. He had two game accounts, and his other account had an Alliance Night Elf alt named Boomsbot, who would be nearby to receive the money. If players would not pay his toll, he would mind control them overboard once the ship had sailed and they were out in the fatiguing area of the waters. At this time in the game, the mind control spell lasted for up to a minute, and there were no diminishing returns, both of which factors which enabled him to be very successful with this strategy. Booms usually had a group of friends with him, all of whom were topnotch PVPers, and many battles occurred as the Alliance would gather at the harbor to attack them whenever the boat returned. Eventually, the Alliance would take back their boat, but the skirmishes provided fun, chaos, and good memories for those who fought alongside Booms. This, along with his inimitable presence on the Stonemaul forums, earned him lasting renown on his realm as well as the nickname "Pay Tribute."
This tribute to his character was added in patch 5.1.0.

was put into the game as a tribute to Lonesome George, a giant tortoise from Pinta Island in the Galapagos Archipelago. The Pinta Island tortoise species was decimated in the 1800s, slaughtered for their meat by whalers and other visitors to the island. They were thought to be extinct by the early 1900s.
But in 1971, a lone tortoise was discovered on Pinta Island, and he was brought to the Tortoise Center on Santa Cruz Island for safekeeping. The media dubbed him Lonesome George after TV comedian George Gobel. Lonesome George lived on Santa Cruz until June 24, 2012, when he was found dead of natural causes at approximately 100 years old. With his death came the extinction of his species.
George was a powerful and poignant symbol for the conservation of endangered species. These words are written outside his habitat:
Whatever happens to this single animal let him always remind us that the fate of all living things on Earth is in human hands.

Legend of Zelda
, and his son Cody is believed to be named after the character from
Final Fight.
He played many different games, including
Warcraft III, Call of Duty, Half-Life
, and
Portal
, and also had several Warhammer armies.
Another game Williams loved was WoW. Rumors have long been circulating that he played a priest named Jett on the Mannoroth server in the guild Iconoclast, and was something of a troll in trade. This has not been directly confirmed, however, and former Iconoclast guild members
have indicated
that the Mannoroth rumor came about from a
short-lived edit
on Williams’ Wikipedia page. At this point, unless more information is revealed about his WoW toons, we can’t know for sure what class he played or what realm he was on.
After Williams passed away in August of 2014, a petition was started to get a memorial character for him in WoW. Blizzard was quick to confirm that this would happen, and Wowhead has three NPCs in its database for Williams. One is in the game as
罗宾
, a reference to the Genie from
Aladdin
, but the location(s) of the other two (
罗宾
and
罗宾
) are still unknown.
To find the Genie tribute, go to the island in the South Sea just south of Grommashar in Draenor’s Nagrand. From the sea, there is a ramp up the hill on the east side of the island. You’ll see a giant egg split in two, with a lawn chair in one half and a control box and lantern in the other, a reference to Mork’s space ship. The toys and stuffed animals scattered on the island may be a reference to Robin’s movie
Toys.
Near the egg ship is a collection of items underneath a tree – one of these is the lamp, called the Ever-Burning Lamp. Click on it, and
罗宾
appears as the Genie, proclaiming “PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWERS!” With a wave and a bow, he quickly shrinks down in size until he fits in the lamp as he finishes the now-famous quote: “Itty bitty living space.” Then, he disappears.

is in tribute to a player whose main was an Undead priest of the same name in the guild Forged in Flame on US-Kul Tiras. She passed away in August of 2014 from brain cancer at the age of 26.
Kimilyn was a PVP enthusiast, and dominated the charts whether she was heals or dps. She was from New Zealand, which earned her the nickname "Kiwi Kimi" among her guildmates, and the time difference meant she was part of the guild's late night crew. She loved Arathi Basin and Warsong Gulch in particular, and she could often be found participating in world PVP at Halaa between battleground queues. She was filled with a joy for life, respect for others, and complete unselfishness. She was happy and carefree, and wasn’t the type to worry or complain.
Kimilyn was a private individual as well, though, and most people in her guild didn’t know that she had cancer until she passed away. She wanted to keep quiet about it so she could make the most of the time she had left, by having fun with her friends without her illness getting in the way or making people act differently around her.
Her friend, Break,
wrote:

Forged in Flame held a memorial event in August of 2014 and they also set up a continuous vigil at Halaa for a month in her honor. Kimi would definitely have approved.
季米林
is one of the Horde captains that can be summoned in Ashran to aid the Horde. Like the other Horde captains who spawn in Warspear, she appears right in front of the Keep, between the two wooden posts, and rides off to join the fray. It seems she can appear in more than one spot, however. I had seen her appear at the Warspear spawnpoint previously, so I was positioned directly at that spot to get screenshots of her the next time she was summoned. When her arrival was announced, however, she never appeared there, and upon targeting her, I saw she was already south of me and had nearly reached the current combat zone. Having never been a regular Ashran attendee (I only went there for Kimi!), I have not been able to personally verify other entry coordinates, but the best way to find Kimilyn is to look for her wherever the battle is hottest.
Kimilyn wears the same gear as Kimilyn’s priest, and her title is the name of Kimilyn's guild. Upon appearance her battle cry is, "Forged in flame, my power knows no bounds, my allies fear nothing!" Appropriately, when she dies, she says, "My body has fallen, but my spirit rises. I will always be with you."
Along with her NPC in Ashran, there is a

is in tribute to Austin Duink, who passed away at the age of twenty-four on Christmas Day in 2013. He lived in Orange County, Florida, and was at home in the early evening when a gunman broke into his apartment and fatally shot him. Another occupant was shot and wounded, while two others were able to get away safely. The gunman committed suicide at the scene.
Austin graduated from J. W. Mitchell High School in 2007, and attended St Petersburg College, where he was majoring in information technology. He was the kind of person who was always giving back to his community - a former Boy Scout, he volunteered at the Salvation Army and at Metropolitan Ministries, a local charity which helps the homeless. He loved nature and animals, and enjoyed camping as well as volunteering at his local animal shelter. He made it a priority to spend time with his girlfriend, friends, and family, and his smart sense of humor always kept everyone around him laughing.
He was passionate about gaming: he had played WoW from the very beginning, and had also been one of its beta testers. Before WoW, he had also played the other Warcraft and StarCraft games. He played a variety of classes and toons on the Draenor, Kil’jaeden, and Arygos servers, and the first character he raised to max level was Windmill, a night elf rogue on Draenor. In
Mists of Pandaria
, he enjoyed playing a Human windwalker monk named Windymill on Arygos. He tended to use the name Windmill or variants thereof for his characters, and originally got the name from the Gorillaz song "Feel Good Inc."
Austin enjoyed harmless trolling, and his antics in game matched his sense of humor. He would step into the fire to tease his healer buddy (being a DK ensured his survival), and he enjoyed participating in world pvp. Whatever he did, he made it a fun and unforgettable experience for his friends.
Fallenxx, a longtime friend of Austin’s who had started playing WoW because of him, notified Blizzard about his tragic passing.
奥斯汀·杜因克

季米林
is in tribute to a player whose main was an Undead priest of the same name in the guild Forged in Flame on US-Kul Tiras. She passed away in August of 2014 from brain cancer at the age of 26. As in Ashran, this NPC is one of a number of NPCs named for WoW players, which can randomly appear in the contested zone of Val'sharah and participate in the fighting.
Her friend, Break,
wrote:
She had a wisdom beyond her years. and a peace about her that touched everyone around her.
Even while fully aware life was closing in on her, she never stopped smiling and laughing enjoying her time in WoW, with her friends.
Kimilyn was as tough as they get. She had the heart of a gladiator and the nerve of an assassin.
She stared squarely in the face of fear and never backed down from anything or anyone.
She spoke with her actions, and she led by example. She had a huge heart that knew no limits.
She was fiercely loyal and genuinely cared about people and she always stood for the truth, no matter the circumstance. You always knew where you stood with Kimi, she made no bones about telling you either.
She looked out for those she cared about, for her friends, for her guild
Kimilyn was one of the good ones and she will always be missed.
This is where she wanted to be. in Azeroth
Healing BG's, and guarding her people.
Forged in Flame held a memorial event in August of 2014 and they also set up a continuous vigil at Halaa for a month in her honor. Kimi would definitely have approved.
季米林
can appear as one of the NPCs in
黑鸦大乱斗
. This PVP world quest reuses the same NPCs from the Ashran battleground. Kimi's first memorial NPC,
季米林
, was placed in Ashran during the
Warlords of Draenor
expansion as one of the Horde captains which appear to aid the Horde.

obituary
provides name and location clues which indicate that she was the mother in law of Ken Drake, who at the time was a Senior Developer of Data Protection at Blizzard. Contributions to the American Cancer Society were suggested by the family in lieu of flowers, which indicates the cause of Peggy’s passing. Her obituary states:
A Virginia Beach resident for over 55 years, Peggy was a Navy wife, devoted mother and grandmother, girl scout leader, talented artist, world traveler, and sailing enthusiast, who loved playing games with friends and family. 'Mrs B' also enjoyed being known as the good witch.
Peggy can be found on the second floor of Acherus: The Ebon Hold, in the first alcove to your left as you leave the stairs area. You do not need to be max level to see her, but you do have to be at a level high enough to access the class hall version. Brand new Death Knights will see a different NPC instead, a vendor named
坏疽
, standing in her alcove.
If you interact with her, she has a generic greeting as well as one which mentions Peggy’s real life grand children:
Have I told you about my grandchildren, Alexis, Kelsey, and Cara? Such bright girls!
I haven’t seen them since before… <Peggy pauses, then smiles peacefully>
Well, I miss them and hope they are doing well.

Kul Tiras / Zandalar Memorials
Since
Battle for Azeroth's
release, I've been going through the Humanoid and Undead databases zone by zone, looking for new NPCs added in this expansion and who are not instance bosses (since it seems rather unlikely that a boss would be used as an in-game memorial). Thousands of NPCs and many hundreds of Google searches later, I've gotten chuckles out of various NPC names and comments from the Wowhead community, and I've found a ton of references to the living (especially Blizzard employees), but I didn't come across any NPC names or community comments indicating a clear reference to someone who has passed away.
In 2015, I learned from a Blizzard employee that the company has largely discontinued the in-game memorial practice due to some instances where family members did not respond favorably to an in game memorial. It was noted that there have been some exceptions to this policy, but it does seem that there have been fewer in-game memorials added in recent years. Still, as is my custom, I always go through the database again with each new patch (sometimes later rather than sooner...), but have not found any new memorials for this expansion.
As always, please let me know in the comments if you learn of anything. Many of the NPC pages I visited did not have any comments, and sometimes that's the best way to learn about an in-game memorial once a friend or family member has posted about it.

Byron was open about his struggles with mental health issues, and unfortunately took his own life at the age of 31 on July 2, 2020. After his death, thousands of players attended memorials held in his honor across many servers.
Reckful
is a rogue trainer who can be found inside the Cathedral of Light, in an alcove to your right if you stand near the front of the nave of the cathedral. While not a memorial NPC,
拜伦·伯恩赛德

If you are aware of any items that are not listed here (specifically, items in tribute to deceased individuals), please let me know via a comment or see the Contact section, and I will keep adding items as I learn about them. was designed by ten year old Ezra Phoenix Chatterton, who visited the Blizzard headquarters through the Make-A-Wish Foundation in 2007. He had brain cancer, and passed away in 2008. When given the opportunity to create a new weapon, Ezra knew exactly what he wanted, and worked with game designer Jeff Kaplan to include such features such as dangerous flames, fiery arrows, and a curved frame. The flavor text for the weapon reads “Finely crafted to Ephoenix’s specification.” Kaplan had originally suggested that it read Ezra in place of Ephoenix, but Ezra felt that would be too boastful, so they used the name of his hunter instead.

科菲纳考特的大剑
is a reference to Duchess Kolfinna Kottr, the name used by Kitty Sexton, a computer programmer who lived in California. In 2009, she passed away at the age of 28 from the H1N1 influenza virus.
Kitty was a long-time member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, an international organization which recreates the lifestyles, arts, and skills of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. A real life role playing group, SCA members dress in Middle Ages-era clothing, attend events such as tournaments and royal courts, and learn various historical arts and skills. Each member is from a kingdom based on where they live, and Kitty's area of California is part of the kingdom known as Caid. Just as in WoW role playing, SCA members develop histories about their characters, and as Duchess Kolfinna Kottr from the Viking Age, Kitty held various ranks and offices within Caid.
After she passed away, her friends were able to get this tribute to her in the game. This weapon (spelled Kofinna although her name was Kolfinna) is one of the quest rewards for
情况危急
, and is appropriate since Kolfinna Kottr was a Shield Maiden and Knight of Caid. As Caid's first female knight, she was accomplished in combat skills, and passed on this knowledge by teaching classes and publishing online articles to help other women fighters in the SCA.
As this is a two-handed sword, players should take note that this particular quest reward is offered only to classes and specs that can use two-handed swords. Horde players should also take note that this item is offered to Alliance questers only.

Thank you for creating this guide. You obviously took a lot of time and effort into creating a guide that is both visually interesting as well as an interesting read. The screenshots that you have included are of a great quality and I believe that they really make this guide stand out. In addition, having watched the videos that you made, I truly appreciate all of the care that you took in making this project.
The fact that Blizzard even chooses to show their appreciation for gamers who have passed away, is a testament to a company that has not forgotten what it is to be human. We all lose loved ones in our lives, and I personally have visited some of these memorials to reflect on my own personal losses of loved ones. Thank You for showing that there is a more personal side to the game that I love to play.
For a first guide, I would say that you deserve 5/5 stars :)

I came across 2 graves in behind the Dwarven District in Stromwind City yesterday - on the path going to the Pandaria portal area and all the other portals in the game. If that still doesn't explain where I saw them, it's on the path that takes you to the pet trainer that starts you off on pet battling. One grave had some roses laid at the top of it and the one beside it had a teddy bear or some sort of stuffed animal. Was wondering if anyone knew what these were. When I hovered my mouse over them, no names or dates appeared - in fact, no text appeared at all. I thought it might be something to do with Day of the Dead, but that holiday/celebration has passed. I haven't been down there today and for all I know, they are gone. If they are still there though, anyone know what these two graves are doing there or who they are for?

So sweet. My best friend played WOW in the hospital as he fought testicular cancer as a distraction from the pain. He was epic in his guild and never told them he was dying. I had stopped playing at the time and watched him for a bit in wonder as he ran with his guildies from his hospital bed.
He died in 2008 at the age of 29. I still wish, sometimes, that I payed attention to which server he was on so I could let them know.

I just came across this guide and found it pretty cool even though i have seen them all before. One i did want to mention...though, not in the game anymore, was the Sully Baloo quest.
It was an alliance only quest that you started by picking up a letter off a dwarf body who was pinned underwater at the Thandol Span. In ended in Ironforge after you speak with his wife and Ironforge's grand mason to build a memorial statue. In the end, Magni is a part of the chain and he dedicates the statue and says how Sully died an honorable death. You are rewarded with the
铁炉堡纪念之戒
.
It was actually based off a real person, Sullivan Ballou who was a soldier that died in the civil war. The letter in the game you find on his body to deliver to his wife, aside from being "wow-ized" is verbatim to an actual letter the real person wrote to his wife.
I still have the ring in my bank as it was probably one of the coolest quests in the game.
i believe it was removed when the cataclysm hit.

Found another possible memorial at Lake Dumont in Feralas at coords 64, 12. There's a burnt down tower with a group of alliance outside it doing various things. Beside the tower is a gravestone with flowers and a sword in the ground, and when you mouse over the gravestone it says 'Ivan'.
I've looked it up and people have said everyone on the island is blizzard employees, so it's possible that Ivan is one that is gone :*(

i just wanted to say two things to this 1) the Rousch memorial where his toon pays tribute to him at his grave is very epic and by far the most meaningful of them all i love that and 2) on every toon i've taken the quest for Alicia's poem but none of them will i complete it because to me that poem is so well written and i'm so well known for playing wow i want that read at my funeral when i die honestly. beacuse thats how i fill it will be once i die and it reflects me so well. well anyway i've rambled on enough now. i love reading all the guides wowhead does an please keep them comming. its my favorite part of checking wowhead each day to see a new guide or editorial posted. keep up the good work.

Thank you for the guide. I may take a trip through Azeroth (and beyond) to pay my respects.

I have been playing World of Warcraft for only 8 months or so. By some standards I am still considered a new player; by others a veteran. I have used the knowledge made available by Wowhead on more occasions than I care to admit. Every day that I sign onto my WoW account on one desktop computer, I have a second desktop that I use to access this wonderful source (I have a rather large desk due to my profession- lol). Regardless, my point is that the more I play this game, the more I learn what this universe has to offer. When I first started playing (human warrior- character), naturally I came into contact with Stormwind rather quickly. In exploring this vast center of the Alliance, I too discovered the two graves near the Dwarven District as previously discussed by “kitkat2” and “Kemaria”. To me at the time it was a symbol of the vast depth of the universe of which I had just become a member.
It wasn’t until last night that I came across this guide. Its nice that WoW chooses to memorialize some players and its even better that Wowhead has chosen to explain them.
“Kudos”, “Congrats”, “Good Job”, “5 Stars” and so on were all used to describe this guide. I hate to repeat other people’s comments. But, there is no other way to put it.
“Kudos”
“Congrats”
“Good Job”
“5 Stars”

Very touching tributes! The one about Ezra Chatterton got me the most. I experienced these quests myself when I created my first character, a Tauron. The hunt for Kyle was tough but I remember that something about it kept me from giving up... fate perhaps... and I remember the Tauron bitterly weeping at the memorial... probably also a tribute to Ezra. Sounds like he was a good kid.
I found two tombstones side-by-side at Northshire, Northshire Valley: 50.0, 18.9. I don't know the significance of them, and there is nothing readable on the tombstones. It's worth looking into.

First of all,
thank you very much for this awesome guide
. I ... was not prepared, that's all I can say :')
I am not sure if this guide is only about memorials for people who passed away, but in case you are collecting also items/places for people still alive, here is another one for you:
Frostheim wrote a great hunter blog
http://www.warcrafthuntersunion.com
, did podcasts, contributed with his articles "Scattered Shots" on WoW Insider and was well know for his true love: Hunter class.
He founded WHU Guild (the all-hunter guild), organized all-hunter raids and helped the hunter community with his knowledge.
He was uncommonly good-looking dwarf hunter and Blizzard appreciated him with
弗斯海姆的复还斗篷
The grandpappy Frostheim retired from WoW scene in 2013.

Not sure if it counts as a true memorial but after reading your amazing guide I came to think of one i was in recent contact with. Hugh Glass.

a quest giver, he might be a memorial after.

Also i am not sure if it is possible or not yet, or if it was a simple rumour was that Robin Williams was going to be added to the game?

I'm currently hating myself. On the three characters who can use
科菲纳考特的大剑
, two have gone past it and the third I had wanted to dual wield
末日决战
as it's a gnome warrior, all because I didn't know about it until now.
Other than that, has anyone taken the time to build a tomtom or similar addon macro for marking the memorials on the map?
Edit: I am willing to post my own once I get back to amending mine, just wondering if there's one all set and ready to go.

I bumped into many of these tributes over the years but the first one I truly learnt about was Ephoenix / Ezra.
I too am a PvP nut and in many ways, TBC was a highlight. I had his crossbow and had it all the way up until we killed Illidan in Black Temple, and as a Hunter, I also appreciated that his dog Kyle was not only tameable (not sure if it still is), but also retained his barking 'dog' noises when you clicked on him.

I was stunned and humbled to find out about the Merciless Gladiators Crossbow of the Phoenix, something I worked my butt off to get about 5 years ago, but has been collecting dust in my bank since I stopped using it. You can bet every weapon I have from now on will be transmogged to this in Ezra's honour!

There appears to be a tribute to someone in Warlords Nagrand at coordinates 87.4,34.0. It is a headstone and a sword in the ground. No identifiable details are available in game and nothing comes up on the stone when moused over. Any thoughts?

Thank you for all the work you did for the in-game Memorial Guide for WoW. I was very emotional reading each and every tribute made to the passing of a loved one. I have a whole new respect for Blizzard/WoW for incorporating these tributes into the game.
I do want to point out in the cemetary in the garrison there is a tombstone and if you mouse-over it has the name: Ray D Tear appears. Could that be a memorial?

Found a possible new entry, there is a gravesite in the Rainfern Grotto in Tanaan Jungle. When you enter and head to the left there is a little walkway that takes you around to an upper ledge, just at the corner of that turn is a small grave with a headstone with beads hanging upon it. There is also a skeleton lying beside the grave. I have submitted a screenshot under

This is a great guide, I knew about some of these, but I didn't realize there were that many. It's always sweet imo, when MMOs add reference to players that passed away so that their memory lives on, so to say. I wanted to mention that there is a
法拉·费斯特
in Stormwind, that I stumbled on yesterday, and I think she is a tribute/reference to Farrah Fawcet, I think if it's so, she belongs in this guide too.

I'd love to see Blizzard take this guide, and do some research on the ones that don't have a lot of info about them, and make a narration at each NPC or Gravestone that is a memorial. Since there are so many, make an achievement with some sort of special mount reward for taking the time to go to every single one and listening to the narration.
But, I would also like to see a very hard quest chain to unlock the ability to do this. Not an impossible one, but one that takes some coordination and effort that isn't based on character abilities or gear level, but one that takes time to perform. Only then would you get the ability to go to each memorial site and listen to the audio narration. Once you'd listened to them all, then you got the mount, or weapon, or whatever. Something awesome and appropriate to show that you had honored the memories of these people.
Maybe it would cost you honor points at each memorial. THAT could be a good way to 'pay honor' to these folks, but not an exorbitant amount so that NO ONE would do it. If you didn't pvp, they could come up with something else that it takes time to make, in order to pay honor to them.
Also, does anyone know what happened to the memorial that was on the backside of Stormwind Pre-Cata? You had to go to Westfall and swim north, and you'd find it. I don't remember who it was, as I only went there once.
I also haven't seen anything about the Ashes of A'lar Phoenix mount. I KNOW that was put in the game as a memorial to a kid who died from cancer or some other damn disease. I think he was a 'make-a-wish' child as well.

I had no idea all of these were here, until I searched for Robin Williams' Genie. And I loved, loved, loved Farrah Fawcett.
All of these other stories are so sad and so young. Blizzard is hopefully contributing to the fight against cancer, as so many of these succumbed to that horrible disease.
Thank you for this.

I can't take credit for this one, but there is an NPC in the Ring of Blood area in Nagrand named Barney Farley. Chris Farley passed away in 1997, and his character Barney in SNL's Chippendales skit (with Patrick Swayze) was apparently the inspiration for the ogre/moonkin dance.

I saw a comment this morning about a possible in-game reference to a Blizzard customer support forum MVP named Mourninglory, who
passed away
in early 2015. The npc listed was
琪尔加·悲歌
(and by extension, I'm guessing this would also include the Alliance counterpart of
林娅·悲歌
as well as the two Mourningsong followers). However, the names aren't
that
close, and I haven't been able to find any proof that the Mourningsong NPCs were indeed named after Mourninglory. (The NPCs were added to the game before she passed, so they would have originally been an in-game reference.)
I also looked into
韶光之悼
because of the name similarity. This item was added to the game in patch 5.0.4 (2012), well before Mourninglory became an MVP in 2014. I don't mean to imply that she wasn't a vital presence on the forums at that time, but it seems less likely that Blizz would have added an in-game reference to her before she was an MVP, and more likely that that this name is just a coincidence, given how the item is a flower used for mourning purposes.
The original comment about Mourninglory was no longer there when I went to read it again tonight prior to doing some research on the topic, so I guess the original poster removed it, and that's why I'm making this post. If anyone has any proof that these garrison NPCs and/or the
韶光之悼
item were made as a reference to Mourninglory, please let me know, and I will add her to the guide. Until then, I'm just not sure the NPCs' names are close enough to be a positive hit.
Still, from all I read about her, Mourninglory was a very special person, and deserves a space on this page, even if I can't officially add her to the guide. If any of her friends read this and have anything else I should add about her, please let me know.
Mourninglory / Dee
Dee, also known as Wyllow and Mourninglory (MG for short), was self-described on her Twitter account as a "Mama Moonkin with 7 moonkinlings, Avid reader, crafter, dancer, gamer. Also a Navy Wife. :)" She was made an MVP on the Blizzard Customer Support forum on June 18, 2014, and was beloved for her kindness to those she helped, no matter how irritable and upset the posters were. Her friends noted that she may not always have been the first to answer a question, but that she usually had the best answer. She radiated happiness, and was known for her positive attitude: her Facebook feed would feature her customary three daily positives, as well as lots of cute animal pictures. She had a killing sense of humor, too, and off the forums, she could snark with the best of them (her trademark at such times was using the "/halo" emote).
When she passed away on January 23, 2015, her husband, Steve, was out at sea in service with the U.S. Navy, and their seven children were between the ages of 3 and 12. A gofundme.com
fundraiser
was started to raise money for Steve and the children, and to date, over $8700 has been donated.
Dee / Mourninglory's kindness touched countless lives in both the online community and her real life community. She loved her family, helping people, dancing, and getting to go to Blizzcon 2011 where she was able to meet many of those she'd known on the forums. She always made a difference wherever she was and in whatever she was doing.

Thanks for making this wonderful guide to memorials in WoW! I found your guide after encountering your channel on youtube after searching for videos about Caylee Dak on youtube. It's touching to know that somebody went through the lengths to try and find all this information about each person. Reading about all of these tragedies is really heart wrenching.
As it happens, I'm actually a graduate student at the University of Chicago in the middle of a research project about memorials in games and was wondering if you might have time to tell me a little more about these memorials and your guide. If so, please let me know the best way to reach you! Hey Kemaria! I've got an NPC to report for the list.
Peggy Burridge from the death knight order hall in legion. Some of the comments on her wowhead entry point to her being based on a person who passed a little before the character was added. Their obituary mentions her grandchildren, whom share names with the grandchildren the NPC mentions.
I think it'd make a nice addition to the list! I remember the first time I spoke to that npc it just made me feel really at peace, although I can't really explain it beyond that same calm you feel at a memorial.
Thanks for all your work!

My aunt passed away back in October after a long battle with cancer. She was an avid gamer and WoW was her game of choice. She played with my brother and I on occasion (one memorable play session had her and I in Silvermoon and she thought some of the warlock dudes were naked XD), but her and her daughter (my cousin) were a two man army. They quested hardcore together and frequently talked about what they were doing in the game.
There was never a dull moment with her and while we didn't always get along, I love her to pieces. My newest character concept for roleplay is a dwarf with a family who volunteered to become a death knight after learning he was terminally ill. The concept of being terminally ill with a family was inspired by my aunt's situation and I'm naming the guy after her so in essence, he's a tribute character.

There is also a shrine for Michel Martin Koiter hidden inside a rock in Orgrimmar. On it is written WKM, the W is a reversed M. Unfortunately it is no longer visitable as you need to pass through walls in order to have access to the chamber. It was also made there in an unaccessible space in order to be a private place for it's fellow devs I guess.
